Back again with some Super Mario Kart Lost Bits! Hey guys, welcome to LOST BITS! Where I will cover unused and unseen things in various games! In this video we explore Mario's first karting adventure: Super Mario Kart, to find various unused graphics, animations and models! By using some Debug codes in Super Mario Kart, we can also access some more secrets. Although Super Mario Kart isn't my favourite Mario Kart game by far, it's still really interesting to have another look at the series roots. I know 64 was the one that made Mario Kart legendary but, My friends and I played this one for a good 2 years before N64 and even after it came out! This game was just fun as hell and probably the best 16 bit racing game of all time BY FAR!

It would've been cute if, to replace the umbrella, they added a heart with "Mario + Peach" that you see carved in trees or other wood things!

for the record, that debug tool that instantly crashes the game that you think is useless is something programmers use to measure the perimeters of what triggers a soft crash in certain portions of the code.

That red skidding graphic is probably the first time something like this has been documented.
The fact that the unused font only covers A through F means it was likely used only to display hexadecimal numbers for debugging, as you said, since you only need 0-9 and A-F in hex.

I found out of the oil slick is reused in Mario Kart Wii on SNES Mario circuit.
The coin tile might have been used like this:
Upon driving on it, the item box slot will start rapidly switching between coin, coin x2, coin x3, etc.. kind of like the item box

That don’t only had 16 characters 0-E hexa decimal so it was definitely used for debugging

so... maybe not after a tennis match specifically, but i can see mario having an occasional beer with his homies. he and wario would argue over which beer is better while waluigi drinks hard lemonade and luigi drinks a margarita while not arguing about it because their policy is "if it tastes good and you don't overdo it, then who cares what you drink?" bowser has the same policy, but will also drink just about anything and doesn't understand such arguments as a result.
The 4 color block looks like the switch things from SM64's wet dry world from a top-down view

That multicolored tile was actually used in Mario and Luigi dream team to represent the puzzle peaces to unlock regular moves as well as Luiginary attacks i don’t know if it was just this model in a higher quality or if it was just the unused version of that kind of puzzle peace sprite
I believe that the chomps item was supposed to be a CPU exclusive for mario and luigi, as they're usually placeholders for P1 and P2.

It’s hard to tell with way, but to me, it looks like it says ‘Koopa’, not ‘Mario’. I feel like it makes more sense for it to have been drawn by Koopa, since he likes Peach and hopes to be with her.

I'm guessing the multicolor block and grouped blocks were used in early versions of the battle courses where the 4 different colors may have intersected in the middle.

I bet the coin tile would do something special like a star powerup or speed boost if you had a certain amount of coins.
Peach is probably more drunk in the english animation than the Japanese one, like no one would be throwing an expensive bottle of Champagne up and down like that, especially someone like Peach, unless they were absolutely hammered.
