How to do a Frontside Air-Reverse with Taj Burrow

Hi I'm Taj Burrow. I’m going to talk you guys through a frontside air reverse. Frontside air reverse, yeah that's my most common air for sure. When I'm paddling into a wave that just got air written all over it, you know I’m just taking off and I'm just eyeing off that section down the end and I just want to get to down the end and punt an air reverse.
It is obviously better if you do have speed, you can get a lot higher. You know any size wave really, from you know two foot up to six foot if you have the balls for it. Get that stance going and then make sure you throw your body into to get that rotation and make sure your boards attached. For me, as you go for the grab I want to throw my right shoulder into the spin, the whole body. It will be your left shoulder if you're goofy foot. Once you have thrown your body into that position, you want to have your body over your front foot at that stage I’d say. You'd go for the grab, you’d spin, and you your goal would be to just land tail first, make sure your tail’s pointed
straight toward the beach.
Sometimes it works perfect, other times you might fall right into the transition and you can easily slip off and stack it, or your board can flip and all sorts can go wrong. Normally if you land on the lip and then down the transition really fast, I think that that looks best. Obviously a light little crumbly onshore winds probably the best, either onshore even a bit side shore, coming straight toward you. It always makes it easier and helps your board stick your feet and even throws you into the rotation. A good idea to shuffle that front foot forward you know, it makes it a bit easier if you adopt a big stink bug stance, as bad as that sounds it really does work.
I'd say it's about time you should get off the computer and go try one of these things.

@Lostfins just make sure your getting at the right section and get plenty speed. keep trying till u get the feel right.

Thinking 180 on a skateboard seemed to help, I was getting the spin right, now I just gotta figure the landing. I won't rest until I have this.

@Lostfins i have felt the same way. until today. i finally did a big air today. the wind really stuck the board onto my feet when i did it. but a tip would be to just look for that section. not every wave calls for an air. if u feel it and there is a section. pump ur freakin heart out. step on the tail a little and just extend ur body into the air.
@LauraElisaa You can my child... Just paddle into a wave that has "Air" written all over it :) What i leaned from this video, is that I can do stuff, as long it has things written on it.

Neither, DONT try and jump. You're board will be stuck on the wave while your in the air (looks kinda lame). Its kinda hard to explain, but its all about speed, timing and 'launching' off the right spot. Race down the line, eye the section, Widen your stance (really helps control and for launching), dont do a hard bottom turn but a shallow one and unweight at the moment of impact. I've only done it three times.. :[ When I know I can do it I end up wanting to stay on the wave longer. I think skating ramps help. It kind of reminds me of a fs 180 ollie.

I know this video is old but one thing people seem to never go over is PROJECTION. Projection is everything when it comes to airs you have to hit the section right other wise you going no where, you have to make a solid contact with the lip if your even going to fly up there

The trick is similar to doing an ollie off a qtr pipe right?! We'll thats what I think... I plan on getting this down at the beach I surf... Plus I've been working on my skateboarding again due to the damn rain..

Just throw your body into the rotation and make sure boards attached great fucking tutorial I think about it more like a front 180 on a skateboard Ollie then twist your body that direction tried on board a few times and am getting closer

I am trying to do the same frontside air but the rotation is spinning the other way. I mean the board spins counter clockwise. If a 360 and reverse are airs when the board spins clockwise, what is the name for a frontside air with the board doing a full rotation but spinning counterclockwise?

This is called a frontside 360 in skateboarding / snowboarding. I don't know why it's called a "air reverse" in surfing. No matter, I can't do them on my surfboard. LoL.

Well... not easy, but i guess for someone like Taj, he could do it in his sleep. But yea that sucks haha, i've only broken like 2 boards. I can do better airs now though.
