Had the pleasure of meeting Al back in 2007 in Beverly Hills. I can confirm he’s just as a gentleman in person as he is in this interview. Truly, one of the most down to earth celebs I ever met, and he’s even a bit shy in person I must admit. Continued blessings for Pacino. What a legend!
I met him in NYC (23rd st) in the mid '90's-he was scouting for a film (which never came to fruition) and he "allowed" me to tell him about a script I was working on. Over the years I've met and even worked with a bunch of celebrities but meeting and talking with Pacino was a very special experience. I can say, "I've spoken to "torched" a God.

🙋🏻♂️A few weeks ago I just finished working with the talented actor Al Pacino as an extra on a film titled: Lear Rex I was just inches away from him working for 5 days and he was such a legend to work with. During a taped rehearsal I accidentally sneezed🤧as he was saying one of his lines and he said “bless you!“ and he went right back to saying the rest of his monologue in character. He also still has super STRONG vocal cords he can project very well and recite some superb Shakespeare. It was an honor working alongside him.🙏🎞️🎬🎥

I give Al all the credit in the world for creating memorable characters. Godfather , Scarface , serpico, heat , devil’s advocate, and my personal favorite Carlitos way. He’s the perfect blend of rawness and controlled aggression on screen. If there’s a Mount Rushmore of actors he’s one of them.
@frankiethewolf7712 • And I add the his great performance in Scent of Woman. Considerable difference between Scarface, the Godfather trilogy, and Heat.
I was 15 when I first saw The Godfather on screen in a beautiful, old theater in my town in Westchester. I looked up and there was Al and I fell head over heels in love. I waited until the credits to see his name, who was this gorgeous man playing Michael? I will never forget that day.
Sonny, I'm getting bad vibes... Maybe we should take something smaller... Are you crazy? Stevie, whaddya tawkin about, it started already... Sal's got the gun owt! Stevie, don't take the car... Well how will I get home? Take the subway, we need the car! Classic 😂
I like the fact that he was going to do acting, no matter what. He just loves it he loves the craft he loves doing it. This is what I always hear from people, that if you want to be a successful actor, this is how you have to feel. You have to feel like you cannot do anything else, whether or not you get famous or have a ton of money. And I think that's wonderful.

Mankowitz is the best celebrity interviewer bar none. He lets the actor actually finish a thought without interrupting or pandering to their celebrity. His interviews are truly a masterclass,. He has to be the equivalent of Charlie Rose- someone who is engaged with the interviewee, one feels that one is actually sitting at the table privy to an amazing story)s).
One of the best things he did was that, I think, HBO show where he played Phil Specter. I can't remember what it was called. He's an actor who can't give a bad performance, IMHO!
Just finishing the audiobook. It’s very cool with him reading it. He never forgot where he came from and talked fondly about his childhood friends throughout… and didn’t have anything bad to say about any of his costars or exes.
Al always does something interesting with even the worst material (except Mamet's China Doll. Nobody could rescue that one). Mom once went on a date with Serpico screenwriter Haskell Wexler in Sausalito (called up her mother to pick her up lol) and saw Al on Broadway in the late 70s in Pavlo Hummel during his hefty alcoholic period ("That Al Pacino, he a mess, child!" she recalled black girls saying as they left the theater). Too bad he couldn't help Coppola with Megalopolis (couldn't get that one through TSA at the airport, what a disaster). You did Strasberg proud, Al. Monumental career. Look forward to your book 🎉🎉❤❤
Strasberg had him(and many others) doing emotional recall. An extremely dangerous thing to do for actors. Stanislavski saw the harm in it and moved away from it as a technique. Maybe he would have had less problems with alcohol if Stella Adler had taught him to focus on imagination like Brando.
I don't know, it's a pretty good deal when you consider the alternative.
