How Pacino has only ever won one Academy Award is beyond me. The man has been part of so many iconic movies, playing so many iconic roles that it's an injustice that he's only a one time winner.

    • @NewbWorksDwarven

its because he was bred from the east coast, broadway and the actors studio... he was looked down upon for many years by the west coast hollywood industry. They did not even want him to play in the godfather, it was almost a miracle he got the role, even though he was well deserved and earned.

The one time he won was the one time he shouldn't have won.
      Not because he wasn't great.
      He was.
But Denzel Washington gave the performance of a lifetime in Malcolm X.
Families of Malcolm visited the set, and they were shocked to see him .
They said it was as if Malcolm was alive.

Three things tip Carlito off in this scene: #1, He's denied the bathroom, and notices that if its "out of order", then why is somebody in there? #2 They turn the music up knowing shits is not far away from going down to muffle any gunfire or screaming. #3 Carlito notices the rack doesn't make one lick of sense after they mentioned they're playing eight ball. - after the culmination of these things.... Carlito takes action. Street smarts at its finest. Excellent scene.

The fact is that there is a Pacino, a De Niro, a Nicholson, a Streep for one reason, that’s the point you are talking about. It must be this, the good luck seems to be random. I think is luck, she defines by herself but there is a work hard thing here as well. We can’t resume that this artist people for example they can’t work hard over the years. They had luck? Sure. But they work hard? Another sure.
So for me there is luck and there is hard work and the gift that you have to be good at this sector or another. I mean, I probably could try acting because I love cinema and I will probably gonna be a bad actor, even if I work hard I could possibly be a bad actor. If I have luck doesn’t mean I’m going to be one of the best actors of all time. It needs a whole career and a lot of hard decisions over the years. These people are good, very good at their business. They had luck? Probably a little bit, but the luck is not the only material here to create this alchemy. Don’t you think?

Of all the legendary roles he played, the one that struck me the most was his interpretation of a disillusioned author having to take care of 5 or 6 children while his wife has left him and he is in the middle of depression regarding the play he is struggling to write. The film is a romantic comedy entitled ''Author! Author!'' (1982) and I must have seen it a hundred times. I still look at it today from time to time, like an old comforting blanket. For me, this is my favorite role of his. I was shocked to read recently that he didn't get along at all with the director during filming! Can you imagine that!?!

For those that know... Al Pachino's best acting was in Glen Garry Glen Ross. 100% the best I've ever seen him.

And there are 100 more riveting scenes of acting from this man! From one spectrum of acting to the other and everything in between this man, Al Pacino, can take on the persona of a tree and have you on the edge of your seat. I can’t think of any other actor out there that has the range, the magic, artistry and gift he has. Truly an amazing man… who as another commenter here mentioned should have at least a dozen Academy Awards on his mantle back home. I stand and applaud thee Mr Alfredo James Pacino , who in my eyes is the G O AT !

When Pacino asks to use the bathroom and they say it’s broke and guy says turn up the music look at Pacino eyes …. It’s exactly the way they looked in Godfather when he comes out of the bathroom and sits at table before he shoots McClusky in the throat. Same darting eyes.

Scarface was the best one ever, saw it in the movie theaters when it came out in 1983 and it was so long that they had an intermission because they had to change the reels. What a great movie that was still as my all-time favorite.
