- The video is from recording sessions for our brand new album celebrating the music of Thomas Weelkes and William Byrd, 400 years from their deaths. We're posting this on the exact day of Byrd's death 400 years ago in 1623, and it shows how William Byrd was not just a master composer but also an arranger.
This piece is his treatment of 'The leaves be green', an old English folksong that is passed around the different parts as the piece progresses. It has been recorded many times as a viol consort work, but we wanted to bring the piece to life in a new way by pitching in to sing the original folk tune each time it appears.

Goosebumps, anyone?
Sure ! In contrast to the melodic simplicity of the vocal parts alternatim, the end of this piece is so spectacular and exhilarating.
Thank You To 'The King's Singers' For Keeping William Byrd's Music Alive And Well 🎶
William Byrd still very much alive and kicking❤
the melding of these groups into this glorious sound is music from heaven!!!
When the Bass kicks in 😮
Thanks for this 4th of July treat. Thanks for keeping this music alive !!! ❤❤
Mr. Bird ...Thank you 😇
Eddie Button’s voice is divine!
Love period strings.
Wonderful; thank you!
As always great❤
so beautiful
Cold a capella opening with instruments then coming in. Nailed it. Love the string interplay, and unexpected turn of musical phrase. Super neat.
Москва рада вам-прекрасным исполнителям-музыкантам!
Just lovely!
Omfg what a tease.
❤
Brilliant. Great musical moment.
I love this tune, and what you do with it is great - as all you do. Incidentally, some time ago I recorded two organ versions of variations on this song by William Inglott (1553-1621) : ruclips.net/video/m0MQjDK5S5w/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/yelRm9yM3uQ/видео.html. Today I'm really delighted to hear for the first time its naive and charming lyrics !
the lyrics are almost as complicated as byrd’s counterpoint
Earworm alert!
pat has gained a few pounds!!!
Naja...
A joke right?
