Hey man! So far I’m stuck- despite the CV axle out the way my DPF is still stuck, trying all I can to avoid lowering subframe or doing anything to need alignment. Any tips or any certain way you wiggled it to get it out there?
You’ve got the lower bracket unbolted from the dpf as well? It’s going to have to “roll” so that the side of the dpf that was against the engine is now facing upwards towards the firewall. The spot where the lower dpf bracket bolts to the dpf will be tight to the heat shielding but it will come
It worked, had it out in about 20 mins with that advice. It was actually much easier than I thought it would come out, hard to imagine the work of dropping subframe undercuts just wiggling it out with drive shaft disconnected
A lot, I work on farm equipment and you can see gallons/acre saved, spread that out across thousands of acres per farm. On the flip side would manufacturers have progressed the technology like they did if they weren’t forced to because of emissions?

General scrap/steel yards will take them but you don’t always get top dollar, could look on local Facebook/kijiji/craigslist posts and see if anyone advertises. NS Cores LLC is easy to deal with if you have the ability to ship them.
If your replacing your dpf it costs about $1100, you also get charged $700 core charge. If you send your non-cut dpf back you should get that $700 back but if you cut it up they won’t refund that.

We have road side inspections which usually target commercial trucks/pick ups but also go after modified cars, no muffler is a dead give away which then once inspected when deleted can end up with a $350 fix it fine and your plates taken. If you take a look at the US deleted truck scene you see a lot of the tuners getting million dollar fines, I imagine the EPA can get hands on the customer list pretty easy just a matter if they want to go after the small fish. As far as your golf who’s the tuner? I did a video awhile ago on Mr tuning stage 2 kit, 0 smoke, more power and fuel mileage.
The spot where the lower dpf bracket bolts to the dpf will be tight to the heat shielding but it will come
@@JoshsJettas awesome, I’m gonna try rotating it before trying to pull it out and will update
It worked, had it out in about 20 mins with that advice. It was actually much easier than I thought it would come out, hard to imagine the work of dropping subframe undercuts just wiggling it out with drive shaft disconnected
@oladeleayoola some seem to come out real easy and some dig into the heat shield bad. Just takes some patience, saves an alignment that’s for sure.
Is it the same on a sports wagon ?
This is a Sportswagen so it’s identical. Jetta/golf will be very similar.
Thanks Josh.
You ever wonder how much money the oil and gas industry has made off this setup and its negative effects on fuel mileage?
A lot, I work on farm equipment and you can see gallons/acre saved, spread that out across thousands of acres per farm. On the flip side would manufacturers have progressed the technology like they did if they weren’t forced to because of emissions?
Thanks. Is a 2013 golf the same?
Yeah same set up
Hey when you delete the dpf do you need a tune after?
Yea, it’s not going to be happy at all without the dpf and related sensors. I’ve done a video on MR Tuning on a Passat last year and the difference it made
The Passat I did had large gains, picked up 200-250 miles a tank. I’ll let you know with the Jetta here shortly
Hey Josh - We have a 2013 VW Jetta TDI Sportswagon - I Hit a deer with it about a YEAR ago. WE fixed it ourselves and it was fine until recently - can you reach out to me to see if you can help in any way -
Send me an email at joshthring21@live.ca
I’m late to the party, where do I go to get scrap value? I’m not into the cat recycling business so I haven’t the slightest where to recoup some of the costs…
General scrap/steel yards will take them but you don’t always get top dollar, could look on local Facebook/kijiji/craigslist posts and see if anyone advertises. NS Cores LLC is easy to deal with if you have the ability to ship them.
When you say not to cut the dpf because it will only be scrap value and cant use it as a core what does that mean?
If your replacing your dpf it costs about $1100, you also get charged $700 core charge. If you send your non-cut dpf back you should get that $700 back but if you cut it up they won’t refund that.
How long did it take to do?
4-6 hours apart and back together
What if it’s my yoga mat?
Then hopefully you’ve got a backup mat as mine got pretty disgusting quick
how did you recognise that dpf is cracked?
any soot in the exhaust tips is a dead give away, p2002 and p0401 is as well
@@JoshsJettas so any amount of soot in the exhaust pipe = cracked dpf? should I replace dpf or remove it then?
@@fabo8819 on these it should be spotless, keep running it until a code pops up. At that time if you don’t have emissions testing and don’t mind the cel you can continue to drive it. That or fix/remove it
@@JoshsJettas I have 2.0 tdi cfgb engine, black exhaust pipe and no errors in ecu. MAF sensor is brand new. Injectors deviations are ok, I mean -0.2 to 0.2. Dpf difference pressure up to 5-6mbar on idle. On 2500rpm 40mbar. I suppose that dpf might be cracked.
Sup man about how many hours to remove?
4-6 hours on jackstands without cutting, just have to be patient feeding the dpf out the back.
Was this on a 2015?
No a 2012, 15’s are different
I have a doubt does an mk6 tdi includes catalyzer apart from dpf? If so, it is located next to the dpf right? In the middle of the exhaust?
I thought diesel didnt have CAT only DPF. I am not sure if at the end of the video you show the DPF with mufflers or with the CAT.
Thank you. Good video.
The very early Cbea had a cat attached to the dpf but in the same location. In the video I have the dpf off, right after that is the large cat and then the one I have removed already is the smaller cat yet. Then just the muffler at the very end.
@@JoshsJettas hey Josh! I want to delete dpf and egr of my 2009 passat cbbb engine but from what I see all the kits includes a straight pipe to delete the cat too wich i want to keep it on the car ... You did remove it too?
Yes everything went, if you want you can cut and weld the complete kits and keep the first or second cat if you wish.
whats those parts you have your jack stands on? car looks a bit different then min, also are those 6 tonn jack stands?
I set them on the subframe and throw ramps under too Incase it falls. I think they’re just 2 ton stands but I put them all the way up
doesn't the jetta way more then 2 tons? @@JoshsJettas
@@redsresearch sorry I just checked they’re 3 ton (6k lbs), I’m not sure what they weight I assume 3.5lbs or so?
@@JoshsJettas Google says 4,256 lbs, also what's wrong with princess autoJack's?
@@redsresearch oh wow heavier then I figured, and nothing, Princess auto isn’t always known to have the highest quality stuff but the stands seem fine so far. I’ve got a set of 12 ton I use for work as well.
Where's the crack?
Probably get better mpg from the weight loss alone😂
Yeah there’s a bit of weight there
👊 P r o m o S M
Yeah, well, how the heck can you get busted for this anyway? I'm gonna delete all 3 on my 2012 TDI hatchback. Get me some more MPG & speed! I bought a $1,100 kit with everything included, all bolt on! Guess I should clean my injectors & intake manifold too? What else? How much smoke will I be belching outta my tiny VW Golf? Surely not much, right?
I actually plan on making a video in the coming weeks on this.
The intakes stay fairly clean on these I don’t think I’d worry and I usually will fill the fuel filter canister with liqui moly diesel purge every filter change
@@JoshsJettas I will be removing the CC, DPF, and EGR but the muffler stays. I personally will not be tuning the car. Is a tune needed after this job? I'm an aircraft mechanic but don't know much about cars. I don't think this job will be too difficult. It's all bolt-on & I'll get a kit with pre-formed pipes to run the whole length of what I remove. I suppose I will need to find someone to tune the car, but will a normal shop know that I've removed these major exhaust components? I'll need to find someone who doesn't care, if so!
@@crooked-halo yeah it won’t be happy about the lack of dpf/sensors and won’t run well. The pipes all bolt on easy, getting the old dpf out is the worst. Tuners (Malone or Mr tuning) will provide a flash tool and tune that can be done at home, I went over the process here.

You’re telling me you got that DPF through that tiny hole how the fuck I cannot get it
Axle needs to be out of there but yeah rotate and turn, you need to make sure the dpf bottom bracket is removed
@@JoshsJettas One guy siad he got it without remove the Axel so I was trying that. Thanks!
Where you able to get it out without removing it? I tried but couldn’t
@@JoshsJettas No, you have to remove it
Apparently you can remove the transmission mount and put a bottle jack up in there to move the tranny out of the way
Thanks Josh,
Needed to pull a 2013 Jetta DPF to clean. Your video was my guide for removal. I made a video of cleaning the DPF: ruclips.net/video/Alt08riYgjw/видео.htmlsi=bEMmtcHwTJBklg8y
After cleaning and reinstallation, no codes.🤞
I'm lucky, I'm only dealing with a cat
That’s the easy part, what’s wrong with it?
Uh vcan
