Totally... I was thinking the exact same thing... everytime she had a story to tell and I couldn't wait to hear it, Maher would just bulldoze on top of her and tell us about his thoughts on ... whatever. I really wish he could control himself. Lawrence Krauss, incidentally, does the same thing.

1:23.00 No Katie - anti-elitism is not based on jealousy - its based on fear and anger. Fear that everything is being taken from us. Our jobs, our faith, our liberty , our children, our way of life. Anger that it is being purposely done by corrupt, immoral, hypocritical people who for example want to travel in luxury in their gas powered private planes and limousines while at the same time limiting our freedom of movement and property rights because they are offended by our stench and uncouthness and prefer that we not inhabit their spaces. So no - the divide it not a function of our "jealousy" it is a function of your anti-human arrogance. "Let them eat cake" famous last words.

There are shitheads in every aspect of society. Define what elite means to you. There are successful people who have busted their ass to get where they are. Generally speaking, there are a lot of people who are miserable, and it has to be something or someone else's fault. It can't be the mentality of the one making the claims. It's not a function of jealousy and it's not anti-human arrogance. It's a total inability to take ownership of one's misery and failures. I'm not a Katie Couric fan but I will say there's a vast difference between arrogance and confidence combined with busting your ass. She had a great career, she worked for NBC, CNN, CBS, and ABC, had her own talk show, was a correspondent on 60 Minutes, wrote a New York Times best seller, and was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame. She went to public schools, was an intern in Washington D.C. at WAVA radio, went to the University of Virginia, was a Delta Delta Delta sorority sister. The list goes on and on. You’re right, what a lazy, arrogant loser!

Katie's comments about "Trump voters" -- from the excerpts I've seen -- are a perfect example of what middle/rural Americans resent about elite liberals. We're not jealous or lacking in intellect. We resent the condescension and the dismissive attitudes that we are of lesser worth. We're not deplorable. Trump talks to us in a way that makes us feel like he understands the working man. I lived in Laurel Canyon for 13 years and later traveled the world in a global marketing department for a major corporation. I deliberately retired to a rural community in Arkansas because of the peace and quiet, the ability of have animals that can run and play in the fields...and because of the people -- real, unpretentious and generous of spirit. Yet people like Ms. Couric choose to treat us with blithe condescension and even call us stupid. Among the media and the D.C./Manhattan/Hollywood elite, Anti-Trump sentiment is suspiciously rabid and oddly scripted. True, the man is not particularly articulate and does have a crude, sometimes abrasive way of speaking; but such personalities are not unusual among top management in major corporations in the country. Many people relate to Trump because he sounds like their own bosses. He's familiar. He gets it. He understands how people live and the pressures of making ends meet. Conversely, the Biden administration focuses almost exclusively on staying in power. He wants to open the borders in hopes of bringing in millions of new democrat voters; yet he doesn't give a damn about the job implications for workers in rural areas with the abrupt surge of cheap labor...because we don't matter to him. The usual defense is that immigrants will take only jobs that Americans don't want. What...a...crock. Some of my democrat friends might get their nose bent out of joint for that, but that's not my intent here. The point is we're NOT jealous of Katie's glorious lifestyle amidst the glitterati. For some of us, such a lifestyle is just smarmy with competitive, posturing arrogance. It's one of the reasons why I left L.A. Too many people there were addicted to mirrors.

The people decide what they want to spend their time & money on. Woody & Louis CK may have gotten a raw deal, but the only solution is to find some other way to get the public to like them again. Good luck with that. Although occasionally misguided, most people really enjoy not liking pedophiles or perverts. @totallybored5526 do you not reference your genealogy ever? Different cultures have had different experiences blending into the American diaspora and it can largely shape your self image. Most Americans reference their families lineage. Most African Americans aren't privy to their ancestor's information due to the nameless existence of slavery but they are still referenced to as "African" Americans so Bill's Irish reference fit the norm.

I am a big fan of Bill Maher. I have seen him many times live and have never missed an episode of Real Time in close to 20 years. However, he doesn’t live up to expectations on this show. He has great guests for sure but he seems to ask questions that he wants to answer. He rarely allows the guests to finish an answer before pontificating his thoughts. The majority of the guests just stop talking. Billy Dee Williams came the closest to calling him out on it but it doesn’t seem to stop Bill from doing it. I hate it because I really get excited when I see who his guests are but he shuts them down to my disappointment.
