The problem with all three of the guests is that they have not, in decades, been in high school classrooms where history and government teachers working their asses off to teach the fullness of our country's story and are having to compete with smart phones and helicopter parents and politically cowardly school boards.
I remember some of my teachers, who were great, and others who were a joke. Old women, who couldn’t discipline the most rowdy students, and ending up teaching nothing. More interested in wasting 15 minutes on taking gum, and having kids spit it in a coffee can, than try to say shut up or you’re going to the office. Get out. There were about 5 teachers like that, who had no business there, mentally. We had about the same number, of teachers who were actually great.
I graduated high school at the turn of the millenium. No smartphones existed let alone in the hands of teens in the classroom. We had pagers & early T9 input cell phones. Most people my age do not have the faintest idea about history. This isn't a problem with smartphones. It goes much longer and much deeper.
Please! I went to high school before smartphones took over. We learn learn about US history, and we call European history the history of Britain and occasionally Germany, France and Spain. Unless you went to private school (and i am not even sure about that) you were kept a sheep in a tunnel. US school system is horrendous if you care about creating people capable of making change, and the country and maybe world a better place. Top 20 universities in the states is a different story. But one will notice that when it comes to science, and graduate degrees, more than half in those schools are given to foreigners. These are facts
I graduated HS, when pagers didn't exist and PC were just arriving.... When parents respected teachers and the "need improvement" grade was taken seriously and parents actually cared to helped their kids improve.
If we are talking about curriculum and left vs. right, we should bring up the fact that basic science like evolution and climate change is sometimes not taught in far right red states
What's to teach about climate change?>The earth's temperature has fluctuated all through time. There was an Ice age. Trying to push a narrative that any creature on earth can control the weather is a lost cause. The "science" is a mere observation of weather patterns. Our lifetime isn't long enough to understand it. Might as well study air or water. How much is there to learn? How can such a simple thing be called "basic science"? The reason "climate change" has become a pushed narrative is because wealthy people seek to profit from it. they know you will buy anything if it makes you feel like a hero. Micheal Moore made a documentary exposing the green energy money making scheme and that's why they banned his film within days of its release.
You know what is now being pushed in blue states now? That some boys with junk are now female and should be able to undress in girl's locker rooms. Gender (prior to this new trans fad movement) is more basic science than how life came about years ago where neither you and me were here to witness it.

Going from dominating certain guests to letting people talk over each other? And while spouting some orthodoxy so that they don't quite even finish their own sentences b/c they know which side they're talking about? Sometimes I found myself wondering, "wait, whom are you accusing of 'being like that' or whatever.?"
I agree, but so many of the Trump supporting guests just seem to blatantly lie and try to talk over others with propaganda. And Bill just laughs and nods along. If he truly believes trump tried to overthrow the election, and refuses to this day to accept defeat, how can he actually take any of these people seriously, and provide them a platform to spread bullshit. Democracy doesn't stand for people like Trump, once you start questioning the results with false claims of rigged elections, sometimes before voting even takes place, you are clearly full of shit, and you are an enemy to democracy.
I find it interesting that Bill is quick to call out parents on guns and phones but not on education. My parents were on me when I was in school. Making sure I did my homework, reading, discussing what I was learning at the dinner table, etc. I’m not saying education is perfect but the more parents are involved with their kid’s education, the more kids value the importance of education and more learned we become.
I feel there is a fine line that parents should walk in regards to their children's education. As parents we should be aware of our child's progress, and available to our children for help, and support. We should be aware of what is going on between them and their teacher, and also their class interactions. What we shouldn't be, is overly involved. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing. We actually take away from our children qhen we are constantly " helping". Let them learn to communicate with their teachers. Make them responsible for their own grades and homework. Parents need to let teachers do their jobs, and stay in their lane and do their own job. Teachers also need their authority back, and parents need to back them up. Your child isn't an angel.
Remember it's also that our economy (in terms of the average person) is so bad at this point, no matter what GDP says, that most parents have to work so much more they aren't able to spend as much time with their kids.

Interesting that Lowry is stating that Harris, if she had a majority in congress could be the next FDR or LBJ as if that would be worse than the former guy back in the WH.

Its the blame game which is always a weak leadership position. Avalon made comments about leadership and both Lowery and McMaster didn't touch that as the problem with Trump. Anyone can start killing people around the world to look tough but where does that lead? Bush blows up Iraq so why didn't the world cower at the strength of the US, it should have been a lasting thing. But then the Middle East strikes back with 9/11 and we were lit up and they found out that the god bleeds. The rest of the world does not fear the US as much as China has brought wealth to these smaller countries, it wasn't the US as US multinationals always suck these countries dry and the people in these countries start to hate the US. I whipped off onto a tangent but ultimately, Trump was more of a problem/fear for our allies than he was a feared character by our enemies.
The shear amount of history being made this century is astounding. Most likely due to social medias usage worldwide.

NOT TRUE MY GANDSON TOLD ME COW FARTS HURT THE ENVIRONMENT. LOLTHAT WAS ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO.
Basic science like say, men can’t have children or breast feed?

Please keep going with longer overtimes! It’s amazing!
Too busy on their phones like their kids. If you do not read part of your suffers, hence the dumbing down of gen Z and Gen alpha.

Dude doesn't even know why we have a Second Amendment. He thinks it's for hunting and sports, lol. So, what is the "misinformation" that he "calls" people out on which is far more important that basic constitutionalism?
@th3frogman
In a practical sense it IS only for hunting and sports. Anyone gullible enough to think a bunch of yahoos with guns are going to stop a "tyrannical" US govt is too delusional to be allowed to own a gun.
He's a complete joke.
HR still supports trump, and he makes excuses for him.
Note HR, trump was right, but never wrong, only erratic and inconsistent
thank you, troll
And he kept rambling like Trump trying to defend him. Again, I thought Avlon could have done better to push HR to be specific in Trump being a better manager of American foreign policy. Again, the GOP penchant for violence, oppression and war direct their affiliation and views. What is feckless by being measured and not impulsive? Why do we have to be always forceful, violent because we have the powerful military? We might not always have a clear winner, Iraq, Vietnam, Afghan are examples, yet MAGA is always yelling attack, attack.

John Avlon was best compared to the other guest about Trump's danger to democracy and our allies.

Good to see John Avalon, great conversation Bill. 👏👏👏 🇬🇧🤝🇺🇲

Weird is Kamala cackling on interviews, get real!!!!
Thank you Bill Maher for bringing this up, referring to people who are ignorant, naive, uniformed, with unappreciated freedom in America!
Except he is just wrong.... You can love the country AND know it did/does shitty things..... that it ABSOLUTELY DID. I know for a fact our country did and still does some horrific shit to people and enlisted in the Marines right out of High School. The thing you need to do is push to make it better which is what, at least most on the left, are doing even if these old guys in age and way of thinking just thinks the kids are wrong..... The founding fathers were not some magic great AMAZING long ball thinkers on slave ownership..... most of them owned slaves. If they were actually against it, as revisionist history types like these weirdos claim, instead of the long ball nonsense excuse people are white washing them with they would have just said no slaves.... or at the very least not owned slaves themselves.
@@skillcoilerNewsflash, every country that has existed has done horrible things. Also, "horrible" is purely subjective in the time period you live in. It's easy to criticize what was widely accepted back then. Yes, you can love your country, faults and all, but YOU ARE INCORRECT because THIS COUNTRY, has at least rectified most of your criticisms.
I love my country. I've also lived outside the US for a total of 10 years and can see the benefits of other countries. Our lack of national healthcare is an embarrassment. Every time we came back to visit we always worried about the weirdos with the guns. 33% of Americans own guns yet there are enough guns in America for each citizen to have one. there's an underlying ugliness in this country that just won't go away. The haves and have nots have always existed but the level of entitlement of some folks is off the charts. I chose X job so i am entitled to
I lived outside the US for the entirety of the Trump administration. Many countries were shocked and dismayed while others laughed and couldn't believe Americans elected such a disgusting person to be POTUS.
Bill hyper focuses on too many fringe groups trying to imply "everyone" thinks the same. He sees a few hundred college students acting super left leaning liberal and assumes "all" young people think the same way. He is way out of touch with reality.
Let the General speak! He's the only one qualified to speak on most of this.
I was incredibly disappointed in his selective recounting of facts regarding the war and Afghanistan
@GEOHHADDAD a lot of times, generals are partitioned from broad observations
That was better that parts of the regular show. Bill, running overtime for a half hour with great guests really works well. Have you ever thought about revising the format of the show?
Remember the times where both candidates were polite and respectful? Both proud of their nation. Man times have changed.
That was Before we were educated that they were complete corrupt crooks who deserve no respect. They should have to wear Winnie the Poo masks.
Do you mean when the candidates were fake? So what Donald Trump is mean He tells you how it is And the truth is not pleasant the world is not pleasant World War 3 is not pleasant
Putin had already secured Crimea, the Donbas and just needed a bit more time to do a slow easy coup to take UKR. Trump loses so now Putin has to weigh his options, will Trump run in 2024, will he be able to win, can I wait any longer and it would seem he couldn't wait. The GOP has done all it could for Putin by not fully backing UKR and for McMaster to not rip the GOP for that is disingenuous on his part since he says he isn't a partisan.
And a Dick Cheney endorsement should be denounced not embraced 😂 shows how the Democrat party has switched to the pro war party
What has changed is that Divisive Donald is one of the candidates. Obama and McCain or Romney -- there was always respect in both directions.
I'm tired of people talking about Biden's cognitive issues when we are seeing the same thing with trump which nobody is talking about.
