  • Since the invention of aircraft, travel around the world has been transformed. No longer do we rely on long boat trips, but even the furthest parts of our planet are reachable in less than 24 hours. There are, however, countless different aircraft designs, each for specific purposes… whether it be the transport of passengers, for military purposes, or something else entirely. Fasten your seatbelts, put your tray into its locked position, and pay attention to your safety briefing as we look at the 15 most incredible airplanes in the world!...

    Bonus Fact: the Boeing 747 actually started out as a prototype heavy cargo plane designed for the U.S.A.F. in which Boeing was confident they would get the contract, but didn't. During a very famous fishing trip between the two respective C.E.O's., an agreement was reached in which Boeing had a BEAUTIFUL PLANE with no purpose, and Pan-Am had a PERFECT PURPOSE with no plane! The only condition of which being the three (3) HVAC units normally situated behind the cockpit would be moved to the lower decks, opening up an entirely new deck for Pan-Am to use for first class service. Long story short, with one single aircraft, Pan-Am completely redefined what 'First Class' meant on an major airline.

    The SE-71 Blackbird never took off with a full fuel load, because the fuel system leaked like a sieve on the ground. It would refuel in the air, right before they cracked the throttles. Then the friction of air at superhigh speed would heat the airframe which would cause the fuel system joints to expand and stop leaking.

    The Rutan Varieze appears to be the airplane most likley to be used as a personal method of transportation. My most important question will be " How does one go about getting a pilot's licence for this aircraft?" I would think that a licence to fly any other propellor driven aircraft would be good enough.
    What a great looking plane, I can't wait to see it under the Christmas tree this coming year!

    • @HappilyHomicidalHooligan
      @HappilyHomicidalHooligan Год назад

      A basic single-engine Pilot's License would be enough to fly that plane in the day. If you want to fly in foul/foggy weather or at night, you'll need to get the ILS (Instrument Landing System) Certification added to your license at the minimum...though I'm not sure if that's enough to allow you to fly at night as well...
      If you really want to know what's involved, look up your nearest Flight School and call them to ask...

    The Boeing 747 was originally designed for a U.S. Air Force contest to make a heavy lift cargo plane. It was that size and design so that it could take 3 shipping containers in it. The nose would lift up out of the way to put them in and the cockpit needed to be up there to avoid the path of the cargo load. When the Galaxy got the job instead, Boeing started trying to figure out what else they could do with this design when Pan-Am came to them asking for the big passenger airplane, so they adapted the 747 design from cargo to passenger. So it actually started as a cargo design, then became a passenger plane, not the other way around.
    The Blackbird was a pretty loose aircraft. When it sat on the ground, fuel could leak out of it through some of the expansion joints in the aircraft, even in the fuel tanks. When the plane was airborne, loading on the air-frame was different and the aircraft components would close up the leaks. So, the plane took off with only enough fuel to reach the flying fuel station to take on its actual full fuel load. The expansion joints were needed to allow the airplane to expand while flying at Mach 3.3 near the edge of space without ripping itself apart or buckling somewhere along the air-frame.

    • @HappilyHomicidalHooligan
      @HappilyHomicidalHooligan Год назад

      Atmospheric Friction caused everything to expand (hence the expansion joints) which did more to seal the leaks than wind loading did, and those leaks are the primary reason why it never took off with a full fuel load on board, not because they were afraid of an engine failure on take-off...

    Fact Checker SR-71 took off with way more fuel than it needed but it was built to fly at such altitude that the entire aircraft actually grew a little from the Heat the seals for the fuel tanks would not seal the tanks at low altitudes once It got to hire altitude heated up the seals and sealed perfectly the fuel leaked out during takeoff that why the refueled after takeoff every plane is worried about an engine flaming out on take off with full of fuel but they all do it but what they don't do is fly at this altitude 70000 80,000 feet that's why they're really refuel not all that crap that you said

      Skunk works (not sunk works), Fuselage, Mohave and equipped are all mispronounced. And the Concord only ever had 1 fatal accident.

    Personally, i believe you missed out on one wicked mean ass aircraft by not including the A-10 Warthog. From its 1st test flight, this aircraft has been one badass fighter/bomber. It's profile was something out of a psycho warhead movie, but it gained serious respect from it's pilots and their enemies. It should have been on this list.

    No.8: how much horsepower do the 4 engines have

    • @scubajoe3321
      @scubajoe3321 3 года назад

      It depends on what model of engine it could be a GE90 or other but most airliner's don't use 4 turbofans unless it's an Airbus
