    I think that with all my education and knowledge I've acquired over the years I think I could finally see myself working on this field, I'll be that dude always mixing the putty and filling up the holes in the models and parts all the time.

    Tailstrikes do not only occur in the VMU test. They can also occur in the TOP test (take-off performance test, which determines the basic data for calculating the take-off performance of an aircraft). For this reason, devices such as those shown in the video at 2:46 are installedat the tail so that the fuselage is not damaged too much.

    • @raven4k998
      @raven4k998 Год назад +4

      nope but in the real world if the tail does not have protection a tail strike can do a low of damage to the tail

    Its not cruel testing. Its called stress ,performance and safety. It how they establish the limitations of the aircraft for the pilots so they don't exceed them
    Secondly, it establishes the maintenance requirements so the airlines know what how long parts will last
    The USAF lost AC-130J brand new from because the aircraft went inverted during testing for a few seconds. It recovered and landed safety however per the maintenance manual had to be written off as it exceeded the safety thresholds
    Hence why this testing is important

    By "fitted with brakes that have been completely worn out", they mean brakes machined down to the expected maintenance wear limit. So still plenty of energy absorption left in them (or else the plane wouldn't stop).

    • @TheHunkerBeans6841
      @TheHunkerBeans6841 Год назад

      Is it not to test out the thrust reversers?

    • @marcmcreynolds2827
      @marcmcreynolds2827 Год назад

      @@TheHunkerBeans6841 As it happens, reverse thrust isn't used in these "rejected takeoff" tests done for aircraft certification. That's partly for conservatism, as well as the reality that one reason an RTO might occur is because of an engine(s) problem.
      But even with all reversers working at full power, an airliner wouldn't be able to do a maximum (kinetic) energy stop in a reasonable distance with just reversers. Despite all the noise, they don't provide nearly as much stopping force as brakes.

    With the rejected take off test the ARFF can approach the aircraft but can not apply any material for a period of time to account for real world response times. ARFF is usually on the airport grounds, especially for anywhere receiving a 747, but they are not usually sitting at the side of the runway unless an emergency is declared prior to arrival.
