Wow! This just goes to show that there is always something new to learn. The fact that The KOT guy could make The WSM rep to failure and get winded is a testament to his methods of strength training! I'm impressed so much by both these guys!!!
It is just such a joy when you see two Giants in two different sections of the world of athletes collaborating. Bringing more TRUE knowledge to the world. I did about 8 weeks of bens program. Really helped my hip and knee pain i was getting while squatting. Hope you sprinkle some of his stuff in. I now sled for 10 minutes before every lower body workout as my warm up 💪
Seeing that deadlift last year just before they announced you to be in WSM as a sub and winning this year, I love how you're expanding your content. Thanks for repping Canada on the world stage!
@@mitchellhooperstrongman Perhaps overnight isn't the right choice of words, but with the amazing finishes in the classic and worlds, the channel has gotten a lot more exposure! Either way, I'm glad I found the channel and I appreciate all the work (editor included) you all put in!
These videos really come right on time. Right as I am going for Powerlifting training after 9-10 years of bodybuilding style training. Damn these will help me tremendously for building up my lifts. You're awesome dude! Really looking forward seeing your growth the coming years. Keep it up;
lower ab building is why i started to do that kind of reverse squat band workout, but its good to see it has other benefits too which would explain some gains I've had
Can you maybe give an update on your ankle situation? Have you implemented something new into you routine to work on it? Great video thx for the content
Love your work Mitch! Great to see you working with both Squat University and Knees Over Toes as they are constantly portrayed as different/opposing online but I believe they both have great value to add. Awesome to see someone as successful as yourself willing to meet new people, genuinely curious to learn and not being afraid to ask the questions we all want answers to like you did here with Ben. Please keep it up mate, great example of being a top bloke 👏💪
Mitchell I've been a huge fan of Ben Patrick AND you for a while and can't tell you how excited I was to see this pop up on my feed. Not too often this much class is in the same room. Much respect
Hugely rooting for Michell to hit it big, both in his competitive career and his RUclips career... just commenting for algorithm! This is awesome content top to bottom
I love how you always challenge the people in your videos. Makes it far more interesting than most of the fitness content on youtube. Reminds me of conversations I've had as a coach with Jeremy Hamilton (world record setting powerlifter). E.g. Whenever I try to talk science with him he doesn't (usually) believe it applies to him. How can the average result of a group of intermediates apply to the number one? It makes it more fulfilling as a coach to make progress with an athlete when they're both smart AND elite. It's even more fun when it's not me being questioned all the time haha.
I think the beautiful thing about knees over toes guy or brett contreras or squat university is just the simplicity of it all. You generally don't need ice baths, stim, supps. It seems to be more about moving properly through full ranges of motion, loading appropriately, eating, and sleeping. Nothing cutting edge or groundbreaking which i find nice.
5:00 you cannot really build muscle tissue for your ankles area. but the tendon will become more resilient with such an exercise the stretching effect due to the weight will also strengthen this tendon area. another thing especially in strongmen is when they train with a frame or other weight carry exersise. they often do not check on walking optimal. you can walk in 2 ways forward: one is by putting the rear of the foot first on the ground and then roll into the toes. the other is by putting the toes first on the ground and roll into the rear section from there. what will help to unload your spine from a lot of stress compared to the first option. try it out yourself with weight to carry around. and you will feel the difference at this specific ankle area as well in stress it has put on. as big as your muscles may be. the tendons to your feet are always quite narrow compared to that. strongmen workouts putting a lot of stress on that area in general. so make sure to give them enough room to regenerate from the stress. by making sure to also stretch your feet occasionally without any weight added. and rotating them in the air in every possible direction. this also strengthens the tendons a lot. especially if that kind of movement is most of the time not done. you can also use your hands to stretch your feet in all possible directions with a bit of force if you want. this adds to further strengthen them and getting used to specific angles better when under stress from the heavy loads you carry. besides of that. keep up the good work and i wish you well success furtheron.
Mitch learning from Knees Over Toes Guy will lead to Strongman becoming boring when he's taking his 10th WSM title in a row 😂 I think the combination of Ben and Mitch's knowledge would make for an incredible book on avoiding/recovering injuries!
I try to sled some items backwards during my work and also train the split lunge regularly and notice a huge imlrovement in running and squatting and going up and down stairs. Pretty much pain free.
I've been trying to get into knees over toes stuff lately myself. Theres just something wrong with my left knee somewhere in the chain and I cant figure out what. I'm hoping with this sort of training my issue will work itself out. Also you say people wont think your a strongman. but you're still massive VS your random guy on the street haha. So I'm looking forward to seeing what people say.
Would love to see you do more with Ben, Mitch. Hell, i'd really love to see both of you do some content together, create some kind of mobility-enhancing workout geared towards strongmen, to improve all their fundamentals--like those ankle lifts you were doing at 4:35.
