I owe Ben Patrick the recovery of my knee after a torn meniscus, I spent one year after surgery in pain, limping, knee brace, sometimes a cane, and none of the doctors and physiotherapists I saw helped me. I tried everything I could, saw him on a JRE episode where he recommended to walk backwards for 15mins a few days, I thought it was crazy but I tried it anyway, the pain was almost completely gone, and I didn't have the limp, to wear the knee brace, or the cane, I signed up for his ATG program, and after 3 months I was able to run, do boxing, and fully healed. I love this guy!

This is nuts. I was watching the KOTG critique this morning, trying to figure out how to integrate ATG exercises in the RP hypertrophy app and 💥 here is an interview!
Well, almost all of them are not really ATG exercises. They had other names before. I don't think it matters though, anyways. I don't think the app is programmed with things like the SFR of each exercise. I think it figures it out from the data you enter from your workouts over time, since different people likely have a different SFR from the same exercise. I haven't used the app, but I'd assume there's a way to add your own title to an exercise, along with which muscles it works, so the app can program it and adjust the program based on your feedback about soreness and fatigue and such.

I’m telling you. This guys advice on sled push/pull, heel elevated squats, kneeling hip flexor stretches got rid of my chronic knee pain from constant high impact sports such as football, basketball, and soccer
@@amsub24no I never stopped playing sports. I still lift 3-5 times a week while participating in recreational sports twice a week. But by addressing weak links within my lower body, the pain slowly disappeared.
I can hear and relate to the shake in his voice when discussing being in pain and everyone you were told knew what they were doing professionally just shrugged off your situation as imagined or lesser. Being 33 as well, I remember how teachers and nurses and coaches went from gung-ho about things to straight up burnt out and indifferent in the mid to late 90’s and early 2000s.
We have to remember that Mike has a specific avenue of advice, truly top notch, but people like "Knees Over Toes Guy" are a great example of those great trainers that have a different avenue for greatness. "Squat University Guy" is another great example.
Squat University has helped people, that much is undeniable, but they hurt their credibility with claims that are as outrageous as what Ben Patrick is fighting against: they oppose spinal flexion.
Discovered Ben about 4 /5 years ago whilst experiencing knee pain and searching for what to do. Slowly incorporated the split squat and knee pain gone. I'm loving this interview.
Learned about ATG split squats, tib raises, and backwards walking from this man. I always recommend these for anyone with knee pain. These 3 cured my sharp knee pain
Holy crap this guy is telling the story of my childhood, only my sport was volleyball. The issues started at 9 and had my first surgery 2 weeks after my 15th birthday. I am proud to say at 42, I have better range of motion and less pain now than I did at 18.
From my experience every single physiotherapist with a recent degree or who has received a recent catch up course on the latest science is implementing progressive overload to reinforce injured tissue My mom broke her arm this year, with ulnar bone head pulverised at the wrist, the prescription was to restrict the movements but not immobilise the wrist : No plaster cast, but a flexible splinter instead; With regular reinforcement session with a professional Every single physio i've seen for my knee, my hamstring or even my disc inflammation prescribed a set of progressively overloading program of exercises Things are going in the right direction providing the future generation of docs get into the position to deprogram the people's belief and current generations of doctors are willing to update their data and operate changes in their prescriptions You guys are making a difference !
I’ve been watching Ben Patrick since he started making vids, & the podcasts he been on, this was the first time I heard him genuinely laugh. Great vid 🫡
Ben and Mike are the top 2 people I use for helping people as a Personal trainer. Absolutely loved this episode so glad you both can collaborate. You both have helped me so much on my fitness journey ❤
21y old with patella alta on my left knee. Almost broke my patella by doing pistol squats because I didn’t know I had this condition. Started doing ATG split squats and within 3 months I was able to do pistols squats again. This guy’s awesome
I added some of the exercises he recommends into my daily life and it had a dramatic impact on my knee pain post leg day. I’m so excited for this interview.
You could see the pain in his eyes as he talked about his story. The relationship we have with our bodies in our formative early years is a powerful one that can change the course of our life. It can alter everything. If you're reading this bro, just want to say that I'm sorry you had to go through this. And thanks for turning your pain into motivation to help others! ✊
I have always admired Ben's generosity in providing good helpful content on youtube, and inspired by all the comments from people who have had life-changing help from his methods. Glad to hear his life story and the events that influenced him.
I will use this opportunity of being very early to say how I love those long from videos. I really enjoy listening to them while training, although I must admit that I am in fact in my bath right now.
I have never given money to this guy, but just from the free stuff he puts online, and similar channels like Squat University, I was able to rehabilitate a damaged meniscus from a point when I would wake up in the morning with swelling that would limit my range of motion, to waking up pain free and squatting 225 deep for reps just last week. Completely changed the trajectory of my health since last year. 29 years old and I just want the next few decades of my life to be pain free and fun.
This episode is pure gold! I've always admired Ben's work, but this was the first talk that truly gave me insight into the challenges he's faced. His personality resonates deeply with mine, and his experience motivates me to keep working out and to pursue the right approach. Thank you for this!
Professional athlete with multiple knee and hip surgeries - found ATG/currently using coming off (another) PCL tear. Best my entire lower body has felt in years.
I was dreaming of this collab, you guys are two of the most educational people on the internet regarding exercise. I've learnt so much from both of you it's unbelievable, and I'm not only talking about exercise stuff. The ammount of passion, dedication, honesty and knowledge you guys have is contagious. Ever since I've watched your videos I feel more confident and capable to help everyone at my gym. Thank you so much!
Man, I've had knee pain my whole life. I started following knees over toes guy about a year ago and my jump height skyrocketed and my knee pain went way down. Then about 2 months ago I fall out of a chair and tear my medial meniscuss so bad I can't walk. It was just a small twist that tore it after years of minor tears, but I've been compensating so much with my other knee, it's been acting up. To make a long story short, I've got double knee surgery coming up. Both my medial meniscuss will be shaved down and I'll have to "pick and choose" my activities very carefully moving forward.
Absolutely love the longer form interview videos. Didn't really know or interact with TheKneesovertoesguy's content but he seems like such a genuine and nice guy. Would love to see the gym video!
68 yo, Ben helped me attain my first full squats. Learning full range of motion and understanding WHY it is a good thing has made me injury free lifting weights and able to run once again. Thanks, Ben!!
Collab that needed to happen. I'm glad for this message of confronting the movements you thought you couldn't do with gradual progression into harder expressions of that movement. I was told very directly in my early 20s that I'd never lift even modest weight overhead by a couple very well trained and I'd like to think well-meaning orthos. I believed that up until this last year when I started my weight lifting journey. Now I can properly strict press 135 for reps and I can see bodyweight ohp for reps somewhere in 2025.
Great interview. I’ve been nursing a hand/grip injury for months. I spent months basically trying to do nothing with the hand if I could help it, and made zero progress. Over the last month I started doing dumbbell wrist curls and reverse wrist curls at the end of my workouts. It’s improved immensely.
This video couldn't have come out at a better time. I have had some knee pain (Baker's cyst in the back of the knee, and a strain of the patellar tendon), saw a doctor, and what I got was "avoid bending the knee, don't squat or kneel if possible, limit going up the stairs, etc." The way he said that made me feel like I was going to be handicapped in a way, for the rest of my life. I've skipped leg day for a couple of months (until I had no pain in patellar tendon), then I started coming back slowly; the only time I felt pain was when I ramped up the weight too quickly or trained legs too quickly after the previous session. Having watched this video, I know that my approach has been correct, and that you can get better if you just keep pushing, even if just little by little. Thanks!
Theres mind muscle connection but theres also mind joint connection. Workig through injuries has given me the appreciation for both and why I find the lived experience of Ben so inspiring
I had a "bad" knee for 15+ years. Never did leg exercises because my doctor said not to push it, my knee is just bad now and I have to adjust to it. Whenever I tried to squat my knee would hurt and I gave up. I started lifting with a trainer who has a very similar style to Dr Mike, in fact he attended classes taught by Dr. Mike. This dude reads exercise science white papers for fun! Anyway, about 1.5 years ago, he started me with a machine sled machine, single leg, light weight. I moved up to leg extensions, single leg, building up the vastus muscle. I literally had no vastus muscle. My leg muscles was severely atrophied due to 15 years of not using it properly. I kept progressing slowly just like Dr Mike explained in this video. Pushed it until it was uncomfortable, pushed through that level and continued on for months. I'm now pushing 225lbs on the inverted hack squat with one leg. I never felt better and I no longer have knee pain. I can even walk up and down stairs straight, no longer have to come down sideways.
A freaking trailer hit me while I was on my bike. Totaled the bike. Hyperextended my knees and cut me up, but thankfully didn’t break anything. I went 10 years with constant pain in my knees and ankles. I started working out and it helped a bit, but it wasn’t until I found knees over toes and I haven’t felt knee pain in a longgg time. And just finished running a marathon in Japan in October. I finished it without feeling any real pain, except in my toes but that’s a different story 😂 So happy that Ben is getting the respect he deserves and that RP and ATG found each other, because I live by everything I’ve learned from both your channels! So thank you BOTH!
I’m headed into total knee replacement next week. Torn meniscus 17 years ago has lead to bone on bone today. I wish someone had given this advice back then.
So 3 years ago at 40 I had my left knee replaced. This year I found out 25 percent of the head of the femur had abscessed. So 4 knee surgeries since August this year I found knees over toes. My last surgery was 3 weeks ago I already have more range of motion then I've had in my entire life. Thank you gentlemen, Your videos have given me the motivation and drive to literally change my outlook on life microdosing my workouts and subtle progressions. .
I injured my back years ago from poor deadlift form, but over the past couple of years, I’ve been researching rehab and muscle-building techniques from people like ATG, and about a year ago, I discovered Dr. Mike. Being open to different styles has completely transformed my mobility, back strength, and overall performance. Now, even at 6’2” and 250 lbs, I can touch the floor with my palms effortlessly! Anyway fantastic collaboration would love to see more like this.
@ keep trying to touch your toes, feeling a small stretch in your back, and a deep one in the hamstrings. Also work on the hips through side and front lunges. Lastly, incorporate some sort of exercise you can progressively overload for the lower back (don’t go crazy maybe even start with lighter weight higher reps). Most of all be consistent it took me some time to get where I am today after my injury but it was 1000% worth it.
Tons of respect to Ben Patrick, I kinda integrated a few of the exercises into my workout and continued exploring the concepts he teaches in his videos on my own and my physical ability just keeps going up. Up until this interview I hadn't thought about it all that much in terms of load reduction to a workable minimum for any ability. I'll try again to figure out a suitable program for my 62 year old mom who's had both knees replaced with that in mind. Hell, I'll try to figure something out for my 92 year old grandparents while I'm at it! Looks like I'ma have to watch some Kneesovertoesguy videos, it's been a while anyway!
I love this interaction between my 2 favorite influencers. I hope they become the best of friends. I still would love a workout colab video. Maybe with DR MIKE doing the knee over toes workout this time??? Would be dope

I train my hips flexors and do couch stretches bc of this dude. Super beneficial. 🤙🏻
🙌
@@amsub24no I never stopped playing sports. I still lift 3-5 times a week while participating in recreational sports twice a week. But by addressing weak links within my lower body, the pain slowly disappeared.
I can hear and relate to the shake in his voice when discussing being in pain and everyone you were told knew what they were doing professionally just shrugged off your situation as imagined or lesser. Being 33 as well, I remember how teachers and nurses and coaches went from gung-ho about things to straight up burnt out and indifferent in the mid to late 90’s and early 2000s.
Ben giving Dr Mike compliments and how uncomfortable he gets receiving them is so relatable.
We have to remember that Mike has a specific avenue of advice, truly top notch, but people like "Knees Over Toes Guy" are a great example of those great trainers that have a different avenue for greatness. "Squat University Guy" is another great example.
CAKE-BAIT!
Squat University is a clown lmao
Squat University has helped people, that much is undeniable, but they hurt their credibility with claims that are as outrageous as what Ben Patrick is fighting against: they oppose spinal flexion.
@@BradleyGibbs He doesn't. You just need to listen to him carefully, not with a preformed belief of what he will say.
@@kalash_nikovHe does he blindly preaches Dr.McGills work. Not to say you cant learn anything from him.
🫡🙏
Holy crap this guy is telling the story of my childhood, only my sport was volleyball. The issues started at 9 and had my first surgery 2 weeks after my 15th birthday. I am proud to say at 42, I have better range of motion and less pain now than I did at 18.
I’ve been waiting for this podcast for so long
This is why Dr.Mike gives us tips on longevity
This is huge for the fitness community
🙏
Cannot wait for the possible workout videos these two will make together. You both are awesome
From my experience every single physiotherapist with a recent degree or who has received a recent catch up course on the latest science is implementing progressive overload to reinforce injured tissue
My mom broke her arm this year, with ulnar bone head pulverised at the wrist, the prescription was to restrict the movements but not immobilise the wrist : No plaster cast, but a flexible splinter instead; With regular reinforcement session with a professional
Every single physio i've seen for my knee, my hamstring or even my disc inflammation prescribed a set of progressively overloading program of exercises
Things are going in the right direction providing the future generation of docs get into the position to deprogram the people's belief and current generations of doctors are willing to update their data and operate changes in their prescriptions
You guys are making a difference !
Wow, yes! Knees Over Toes Guy and Dr. Mike! Happy Christmas all over again.
🙌🙏
The introduction to many of his exercises into my routine has literally made working out and life 10x more enjoyable
KOT changed my life. Thanks greatly, all success is well deserved!
legend changed my life for the better
🤝🙏
Can say emphatically both of your contents’ have made my Physical Therapy practice as a clinician better
What he said to start is literally what I am doing, following his RUclips videos. Can feel my knees legs arms getting stronger
Reading the comments is amazing. Great job, Ben. I have so much gratitude to be a member of the ATG community and journey!
My two top health guys in one video. Great stuff. The two of you are helping transform my 51 yo body safely.
FINALLY! I've been waiting for this for years
Man, I've had knee pain my whole life.
Ben changed my life. I went from knee pain just from trying to bend down to tie my shoes to doing weighted squats and adventure races. Thank you, Ben.
68 yo, Ben helped me attain my first full squats. Learning full range of motion and understanding WHY it is a good thing has made me injury free lifting weights and able to run once again. Thanks, Ben!!
This was such a warm and respectful conversation to listen to 🙂
Collab that needed to happen.
I tell random people about Ben Patrick all the time. Happy to see you promoting him :)
Man this video was nothing but love from both these professionals. I loved everything about this video.
The collab i didnt know i needed but one i now cant live without!
Love this guy such a genuine dude.
Fantastic conversation!
Epic interview. Ben changed my life and appreciate you giving him your platform!
Ben is an inspiration! He
Suffered so we could all learn. I admire him so much. Thank you!
I loved this guy's attitude and values. Glad you gave him a platform to share his ideas
These two guys are the best combo to help you grow in your fitness journey hands down
The crossover we’ve all been waiting for.
🙏
He a real one! I hope he gets all the recognition he deserves.
It’s about time!!
Thanks!
This is IMO by far, the best podacast episode and best guest. Awesome conversation
YEEEEEEESSSS!!! This was definitely a collab I was waiting for.
Dr. Mike! Awesome interview with Ben Patrick. The two most consummate badasses of online health/ fitness Ed.!!
Theres mind muscle connection but theres also mind joint connection. Workig through injuries has given me the appreciation for both and why I find the lived experience of Ben so inspiring
Thank you, both. Much respect, my guys. 👊🏽🙏🏽🙌🏽
Ben!! This was epic, dude. Such a great interview, I enjoyed every minute of it.
I finished it without feeling any real pain, except in my toes but that’s a different story 😂
So happy that Ben is getting the respect he deserves and that RP and ATG found each other, because I live by everything I’ve learned from both your channels! So thank you BOTH!
Two my favorite online coaches! ❤ God Bless you both! 🙏🏻
I’m headed into total knee replacement next week. Torn meniscus 17 years ago has lead to bone on bone today. I wish someone had given this advice back then.
That’s one of the most informative, and useful Knee podcasts.
Thank you
Finally, these two meet. Seeing this made my day. Great job gents! 👏👏👏
This is what we were waiting for!!!
super happy aboot this one guys!
One of the best RP/Knees Over Toes vids! And we’re getting a Dr. Mike and Ben Legs Workout outta this too? 👀
Any tips for back mobility? I can barely touch my shins!
@@Rvm12Gthank you!
Never clicked on something faster. BEEN DYING TO SEE THIS
🙌🙏
Ben is the best. Changed my knees for the better. I preach the sermon of Ben to all I know.
That would be sick 🔥
My knees already feel better
