    Hi Lynn and Richard, It's still cold in Canada. Got a few frosts. Lost a few annuals. Trying to replace them. Still bit cold. Peonies love the cold and flourishing well . Lawn doing well, Canadian Thistle, love it. Keep you both busy. Can send more roots if like it. I agree with Richard, I always buy bags of Mulch. It is much easier. Talk to you later. Take care, enjoy Gardening. Nathan from Canada 🇨🇦.

      Hi Nathan, been outside and took us a while to answer you. No thanks for the root offer. LOL Hope warmer weather gets to you SOON! We are glad to have the mulch laid out and just enjoy looking at it now. :) Thanks again for watching, caring and sharing. Keep The Love Growing - Lynn & Richard - www.WisconsinGarden.com

    Nice to see your videos again. We made a self watering system and we used tubs and I lost several only because I did cover with leaves and branches. Living in WI and growing up we had strawberries I should have known they would freeze. So the following year I sunk them in the ground, but the dish pan tubs were quite a job to sink in the ground. I will say I had some of the healthiest strawberries with that system.
    We have deer and rabbits also and have to fence everything. I seen that cage in the back and thought you had chickens or rabbits. We just got chickens this spring again after a long hiatus.
    Speaking of roots, I had to move a hollyhock I don’t remember planting and the roots were so huge a was a bit shocked😮 😂 they were 3’ long. Yea, those Canadian thistles are something.
    Jumping worms are a problem in Sun Prairie for a gardening friend. He is really do the science to try and get rid of them. The arboretum has them. I remember about 4 yrs ago a garden video was advising to purchase them for composting. So that’s how they spread.
    Happy gardening!

      Hi Dusty Flats. The University of Wisconsin - Madison Master Garden program says that every county in Wisconsin has reported Jumping worms. That is why it's so important to know where and how mulch and soil is processed. This is also why we went with bagged mulch rather than truckloads. We will continue to experiment with our new strawberries this year and next. Hope you had a happy Mother's Day celebration & remembrance. Thanks again for watching, caring and sharing. Northern Illinois here, 5 miles south of the Illinois border and my strawberries in pots froze out over winter. The plants had been beautiful as I had clipped off 15:07 all the runners looking for a nice harvest, but no such luck. Previously I had some in the ground which I enjoyed,but so did the robins. Guess I have quit.

    Hi Lynn and Richard, so good to see you again for the 2023 growing season. I sure do enjoy your vids. Going on my 4th year now with you. Always a pleasure. Big flower planting weekend here at my house in central IL. I am preparing for my annual sore back LOL. Your yard looks so beautiful. I sure do want to know how those Whopper strawberries do. Take care you 2. Happy Mother's Day Lynn. Rusty Urbana IL

      Hi Rusty. Thanks for sticking around with us as we truly appreciate your support. We will let everyone know how our strawberries do barring the deer find them first. Bracing for tomorrow load of mulch and prepping the area today. Sore muscles all around but hanging in there. Happy Mother's Day back to you and yours. Thanks again for watching, caring and sharing. One thing about using rubber under mulch is watch for slugs. That’s what I experienced and ripped it up.

    Good to see your spring garden shaping up. Good luck with the strawberries! I'm wondering how you know your mulch will not have jumping worms. I'm afraid to buy mulch because I've heard of 2 gardeners that suspect getting jumping worms from mulch last year.

    • @WisconsinGarden
      @WisconsinGarden  Год назад

      Hi sharon, We are glad to finally be outside and working in the soil again. Great question! Unless you know where the mulch came from, you won't know if there are jumping worm eggs in it until too late. If you buy it in bags, it might tell you if it has been treated with heat to kill any worms or eggs, perhaps. Just keep a close eye if you buy some. Ask others that might have gotten the same kind as you are interested in getting. That's what we will be doing.
      Happy spring :) Thanks again for watching, caring and sharing. Keep the Love Growing. Lynn & Richard www.WisconsinGarden.com

      Hi. If all goes well, we may see some this year once the plants begin to blossom and get pollinated. Sprinkled Milorganite around each plant to deter critters. Our plantings begin in earnest this week now that the threat of frost seems over. We will be working some raised beds differently this year as you'll see in upcoming videos. Enjoy Mother's Day celebration and remembrance. Thanks for watching, caring and sharing. Keep The Love Growing - Lynn & Richard - www.WisconsinGarden.com

      @@WisconsinGarden Milorganite will keep critters away? Is it because it’s made from bio solids?

    So I have had my strawberry garden for at least 18 years and this year they are so tiny. Do you think they have run their course. They are ever bearing. Thank you. Keep gardening 😊

      Hi April Yes, they probably have outlived their productive years. We found they last about 3 years and then need to be replaced unfortunately. Not too late to get new ones for this summer. Thank you for this question. It may help others with the same problem. Thanks again for watching, caring and sharing. Keep The Love Growing - Lynn & Richard - www.WisconsinGarden.com
