He probably wasn't. Usually the sports anchor is in their own area, then walk to the table at the end. I think that's what he was doing after he said they were going to check out the scores.
On-air wasn't his job. Besides, he was a student intern at the station. Most college towns have a TV affiliate where broadcast journalism students work at to hone their skills and get experience. Brian probably was asked 5 minutes before the broadcast to do this, and everything else went wrong. It's like every cardiovascular surgeon in a hospital is out and they need to perform an emergency surgery and ask the 23 year old medical technician to do it.
That “oh no” is definitely where he realizes how utterly screwed he is. Like the last calms words of a pilot before he starts to go down and fight for control. Reggie Miller is when he accepts it and finds peace right at the end.

18 years and its still the best video on RUclips. Content creators these days base their entire platform on being "cringe". They wish they could achieve this level of pure unadulterated cringe.
It was production team failure. It's clear he, the guy/gal feeding the script, and the video editor are not on the same page. This explains why guys like Bill O'Reilly and Chris Berman have footage of going ape shit. Because the screw up makes them look bad, while the behind scenes guys/gals don't get the humiliation/embarrassment.
I wouldn't blame more than half of this on the production team. I'd say it's more 75% this anchors fault. You can pretty much tell the correct wording is on the teleprompter much of the time and he's just mincing his words over and over and over again. Hahahaha soooo cringe worthy. Pure internet gold this is. Love it.
Well in O'Reilly's case, there was nothing wrong with the teleprompter. He literally just didn't like the script and threw a fit, saying things like "there's no words on there" out of pure anger even though there are words there.
"He gets the rebound and passes to the man." is a highly underrated part

The most shocking thing about this video is that an NBA game ended with a score of 63-61.
Today's NBA would've reached that score by the 2nd quarter.
@@r.a.6459 lol, right
😂😂😂😂
@KandiandKasey2213 lmao, fair point.
The final score of that game was actually 98-91, he messed that up too. (Game was on March 25, 2005, it was 63-61 in the third quarter)
Love the way he says 'yeah' at the end. Fine young man. This stuff is harder than it looks.
That moment you lied on your Resumé and still got the job
On-air wasn't his job. Besides, he was a student intern at the station. Most college towns have a TV affiliate where broadcast journalism students work at to hone their skills and get experience. Brian probably was asked 5 minutes before the broadcast to do this, and everything else went wrong.
It's like every cardiovascular surgeon in a hospital is out and they need to perform an emergency surgery and ask the 23 year old medical technician to do it.
100
That's rude. Why don't you read about the backstory of the incident before judging ?
@@curiouscat9 it’s a joke not meant to be taken any seriously lol, I’m fully aware of the backstory.
“Okay thanks a lot for that look into sports brian”
“Ya”
DONT look at my about
2:23 you can hear him whisper “oh my god I hate myself right now” under his breath.
That’s so sad and something we can all relate to.
oh yeahh i can hear it
I feel like I went through the 5 stages of grief while watching this.
That “oh no” is definitely where he realizes how utterly screwed he is. Like the last calms words of a pilot before he starts to go down and fight for control. Reggie Miller is when he accepts it and finds peace right at the end.
That’s one of the funniest responses I’ve ever heard!
While hilarious, you gotta respect the fact that he kept going. He could have just gotten up and left but he pushed through
His legacy took the blow.
That’s what he should have done though. He should’ve stopped and let someone know the teleprompter was goofing up, and they could’ve gone to commercial during the technical difficulties.
@@waterblonk blonky what are you doing here?
@@TheWaynelds Yeah, I am surprised they kept it going. It should have been clear to everyone that there was an issue. Either the teleprompter was screwed up or this guy was having a stroke.
This is not pushing through . . .
I genuinely feel bad for this guy, he sounds so stressed.
Me too
His co anchors ain't shit, they watched bro fall outta the boat, struggle, sink, and die.
Couldn’t agree more
Foreal they should have stepped in or cut the camera for technical difficulties
They don't call them "anchors" for nothing. Bro begging for a life preserver. . .
3:38 his yeah gets me every time 😂😂
So funny. Like Dustin Hoffman in the graduate.
That is funny
@@tmac8892 thank you so much for that comment im laughing my ass off
That's like a Greg House yeah
lolololol
I'm envisioning this guy as having another kid below his trenchcoat like Vincent Adultman from Bojack Horseman.
Hahahahaha totally 🤣
He was just trying to do a business!
What are you talking about?
Vincent Adultman was a real grown up adult.
A kid wouldn't be trying to do a business!
Looool
1:18...I'm so sorry. We all are, bro.
Honestly this is more entertaining than anything you’ll ever see on ESPN
God i wish this guy actually was a sports broadcaster.... Honestly would make watching the news so much more entertaining...
I said the same thing! LOL
DaVinci Memes I would watch
Lol yes
He is
2nd hand embarrassment is real. Man I feel for this guy.
to those that don't know the backstory: he was a college student at Ball State doing a sports report for his communications class, and the teleprompter malfunctioned right at the start, forcing him to make it up as he went along with zero help
+Sidney Crosby No wonder he sounds just like Obama when he goes off the prompter himself.
You can tell he is reading the prompter and is just not reading far enough ahead to get his inflection right.
+Michael R I've never seen Obama flounder during a speech. I think you're thinking of the linguistically challenged George W. Bush.
+Sidney Crosby Beat me to it, although I did read on Wikipedia that the teleprompter was working fine, but the inexperienced operator accidentally fast forwarded the script forcing this guy to Ad-Lib his lines.
+Michael R You're a moron. Seriously.
I've seen this so many times yet I've never noticed that at 2:23 he whispers "I hate myself right now." Lmao
Good catch thanks
noooooo 😂
And the “I’m so sorry”
Ohhh my word, you're right! I didn't notice that either until I read your comment.
Thanks for pointing that out!
"Ok great, thanks for that look into sports, Ryan."
*exasperated
"Yeah."
*all hope destroyed
2:16 "He shoots the three, aand its good"
*Its a 2 pointer xD
Give him a break man
This chain of 12 year olds is cringier than the actual video.
Y'all so petty, lmao
Considering your username is "LeafyisQueer" I don't think calling someone unimaginative is something you're in any position to do. It would be like Shaq criticizing someone's free throw ability. Or William Shatner calling somebody a ham.
lol u mad? Strike another pose, cupcake.
“Reggie Miller’s lookin’ good” “gets the rebound, passes it to THE MAN and it’s good”
James Lilla
“Later, he gets the rebound, passes it to the man, shoots it-and boom goes the dynamite!”
“Passes it to the man and boom goes the dynamite”. Classic.
At 1:18 you can see him mouth the words “I’m so sorry.” I feel so bad for him.
Lmao 0:21 ....when he realised things weren't going to go to plan
Aztecius lmao "oh no"
Aztecius OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Aztecius it was at this very moment when he knew he fucked up
It sounds like he was getting feedback and hearing himself on a delay.
At that point I would've just said "Sorry I can't do this" and got up and left
1:18 “im so sorry” aww poor guy
Happened to me during a piano recital when I was a kid. Knew the piece really well going and could play it no problem. Got a few bars into it during the performance and just completely blanked. It was as if I had never touched a piano before. Couldn’t even finish the piece. Feel for this guy.
Exact same thing happened to me. Exactly the same. I developed severe anxiety disorder by my adulthood.
That happened to me too, i completely blanked and couldn’t even start over. I never did a recital again :( crazy to see your comment lol it brought back some memories 😅
@@calumjones ugh :(( I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t have an anxiety disorder but I never performed again and the idea of being in front of an audience for anything- musical, professional, in a school setting- is PARALYZING. My mind leaves the chat and my heart rate skyrockets. After the whole thing I just wanna cry. I hope you have found good support and ways to manage your anxiety. Happy new year :)

Omg I love that show I smashed my window when it ended
Hehe. Good one
Let's be honest, we've all been there... Especially in english class. I'm friends with pretty much everyone in my english class and we talk, laugh and tell jokes but as soon as i walk up in front of everyone to do my english oral assessment i get nervous when i usually the funny confident guy in the group.
Yeah, but that's as a student. This guy's reading from the autocue and he's been given a job as a newsreader, you'd think he'd be a little more at ease.
Jacoby Phoenix
The autocue was broken.
Jacoby Phoenix he had to sub in for some other dude. this was his first time being on screen
Jacoby Phoenix ya exactly, one is as a student you have little choice. this guy CHOSE this profession. Why on earth would you choose a profession like this if you had a deathly fear of public speaking like this guy apparently has??
fyrestorme123
This was his first time ever doing this, as he was a sub. It didn't help that the prompter and auto-cue were broken, so everything he was supposed to say was going by way to fast.
Look at all these grapes! Which terrible basketball player will pick them all up?

I loved the constant sound of shuffling papers. As if there was salvation in the notes. And then his hair at the end!!!! Poor kid.
I was impressed by the way he got the rebound and passed it to the man.
“Face your fears” they said
“What’s the worst that could happen?” They said
This!😂
Just follow the prompter, they said. It won't crap out on you, they said.
I can relate to this.
Horrible flashbacks to a speech I gave at my friends wedding to the point that I can't watch this.
Same but except with a speech in class
Haha is it on video? Maybe you can post it on here

I love how confidently he says "94-85" and then how quickly it again turns to shambles right after
18 years and its still the best video on RUclips. Content creators these days base their entire platform on being "cringe". They wish they could achieve this level of pure unadulterated cringe.
Amen.
You know a video is legendary when it has its own wikipedia article
"Passes it to the man" 😂😂😂
0:21 “Oh no”. lol poor guy already knew what was coming.
Never thought I’d get recommended a YT vid from “17 years ago”. Damn YT been around a while now.
Legends never die make sure you pass it to the man
It was production team failure.
+rohit puri True man, but still, his voice sounds something like a 6th grade project or 12 year old amateur youtuber!
look up web revenge by tosh.o about this guy
I wouldn't blame more than half of this on the production team. I'd say it's more 75% this anchors fault. You can pretty much tell the correct wording is on the teleprompter much of the time and he's just mincing his words over and over and over again. Hahahaha soooo cringe worthy. Pure internet gold this is. Love it.
Well in O'Reilly's case, there was nothing wrong with the teleprompter. He literally just didn't like the script and threw a fit, saying things like "there's no words on there" out of pure anger even though there are words there.
Bill O'Reilly threw fits because of Bill O'Reilly.
That small glimpse of confidence at 1:54 lasted 1 second
