NO ONE has ever surpassed this elegant, beautiful, talented, and wonderful woman. Jane Morgan is an angel sent from God to grace the world with divinity.
@@davidpiercy2898 I agree totally. My father gave me "Jane Morgan's Greatest Hits" when I was 12 and I fell instantly under her spell. I'm now 68 and I still have that LP--which was my first. I love that woman!
@@davidpiercy2898 Good to hear, I've seen that piece of footage. Did you get to speak to her? Hope you did, she was very elegant at the ceremony if I remember.
D.R. -- it's good to know that others appreciate good music and appreciate Jane Morgan. At the age of 87, two years ago, Jane accepted a star on the "Walk of Fame" in Hollywood, and she sang "Fascination" to the audience, without any backup. INCREDIBLE. Her voice is still good, and she looks great. What a fabulous lady. !!!
Her voice was pure. You don't hear that too much these days. I did a search for her (in Feb. 2017) and was surprised to see that she's still alive. Age 92.
Every comment below is spot on. This gal could sing and I bet she is a hell of a great time to be around. God Bless Jane Morgan, Jo Stafford, Kate Smith, and so many others that let it all out and held nothing back. Today's "singers" could learn a lot from watching the grace, presentation, vowels, brilliance, and passion of these singers. Simply amazing. I've played this clip at least a dozen times tonight! Bravo!!!
ABSOLUTELY!!! Amen brother! I couldn't have put it better myself. A lot of modern day artists I think try to dazzle their audiences and cover up their vocal inadequacies by trying to jam as many notes as possible into a held note that the true beauty of the original melody is destroyed; a style that truly turns my stomach. I listen to very few modern artists to day because of this. Thanks for sharing your wonderful comment. God Bless my friend.
I've heard this song countless times and I don't think I have ever heard anyone sing it with as much feeling and perfect phrasing as this talented woman
I agree with every one here. I can't believe I totally missed knowing who Jane was until about 3 weeks ago. I am now 74 and a hopeless fan who goes around all day with The Day That The Rains Came Down, playing on a loop in my head. At the time of this post, Jane is 98 and still making new fans!
What a great Jane Morgan video! Both seeing and hearing her perform is special. She's one of my favorite female singers whose clarity in delivering a song is outstanding. And I'm exceedingly happy that she was honored with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame earlier last year -- at age 90! She sounded great when she sang her theme song "Fascination" at the ceremony.
She actually studied at Juilliard, intending to be an opera singer. She supported herself by singing in nightclubs, where she was discovered and booked in Paris cabarets. After becoming a great success in Europe, she returned to America.
Couldn't have said it any better! Jane Morgan has always been a long time favorite of mine. My grandfather was responsible for forming my musical interests at very early age. My mother told me that as a young child he would make compiled cassette tapes of music for me to listen to of stuff that he had grown up with, and was quoted to have said, "I want that boy to appreciate good music!"...Well, needless to say...it worked! I can't stand most modern day artists.
The best singer [female] of the 20th Century, with a true, rich, soulful, passionate voice. Where is her long overdue Grammy?? [The Grammy Awards is one of the most distasteful award shows because they really don't recognize the best].
Every note, pause and movement is perfect. She sings with her while body. I'd bet her house is neat as a pin, and if you put a drink down on a table without a coaster she'd bean you one. Hahaha.
Many Thanks for posting this fantastic video ! On most records I have of her or songs I heard, she shows that she has a stronger voice than what she recorded («The day that the rains came down», for example). She did mostly softer songs... «Fascination» might have been a success for her, she clearly was better than that. But hearing her with «More», that note at the end gave me chills. Bravo !
This suddenly brings back a strange memory. In 1959, I went to see Bells are Ringing with my family at the Valley Forge Music Fair. Jane Morgan was headlining. It was theater in the round, the stage was raised, and we had front row seats. My seat happened to be next to a ramp from the stage to a loft, which functioned as “Backstage”. Ms. Morgan was wearing a short skirt, and, simply from the angle of my assigned seat, I found myself upskirting her for the entire play - and all the more so when she used the ramp. The whole experience was like a weird dream. Like… I was an 11-year-old boy.
I KNOW!!!! I saw that! It was awesome! I think she should have gotten her star sooner, but later is better than not at all. There are a lot of singers from this era that I like to call, "dem' silky dames". Others like Felicia Sanders, Gogi Grant, Eydie Gorme, Vera Lynn, Rosemary Clooney - just to name a few, all had class and talent, and could sing like angels. I used to envy my grandfather because he lived through the times when this kind of music was being made

I loved this song as a boy, but it's so much more meaningful to me now that I'm older and know, if I may say so, a bit more about love. Jane Morgan is unjustly forgotten by the public at large today. A great singer, not one for subtlety but she had a generous strong voice that hit those emotional peaks without straining. (More Shirley Bassey than Peggy Lee, let's say.)
Jane had time for her fans after a show...first time I saw Jane in person was in the early '70's at the Shady Grove Music Fair in MD...she did Hello Dolly! What a singer and great talent!
Julie Weintraub Hello, I am a huge fan! I have been trying very hard to find contact info so that I may tell her how much I love her and how important her music is in my life. I’m so sorry but I will give her your love, but we are an extremely private family, who doesn’t give out that type of information. But you can look up Jw productions and they will forward your letter to my mum.
an incredible bundle of talent - powerful distinctive voice - great musical interpretation - sexy - etc i had never before heard her compared to Edith Piaf - yet - except for Jane's womanly charms - they have some things in common - especially their incredible enunciation - wanna teach a foreigner to speak american - have them listen to and watch Jane
David, Jane is 89 at this time. Look it up anywhere on the internet, including Wikipedia. She's in good healthy, looks great, and can still carry a tune !!!
What you say is SO TRUE. It is truly nauseating to listen to half-baked singers murder beautiful songs by imposing their own "stylistic" interpretations, which consist of deviating from the melodies every which way, often just because other "popular" or "jazz" singers do so. And it is also to cover up their real to sing the song the way the composer intended. When you hear Jane Morgan sing, you realize just how far down we have sunk in our musical standards. She was truly the greatest !!!
Yes and without the hand up in the air so they can force out the notes in the belting fashion which is all they can manage. Many modern songs have too little variation of note or timing to be tunes. No rhythm, just beat and belt.
No Autotune, No delay, echo or any other digital processing......just pure talent on a microphone with maybe and I mean maybe a little reverb. And of course, a great orchestra! Look up "Blue Star" from "The Medic" sung by Felicia Sanders, and you'll see what I'm talking about. Yes that was sad about Eydie; she was a tremendous talent.
