i absolutely love scavenging and reusing/repurposing old building materials and scraps!
Looks great. Love when construction material is reused or repurposed!
Me too.
Nowadays, I feel like I spend as much time planning how to reuse material as I do actually planning the actual build of the project! Great work!
Yup, trying to reuse as much as possible on this project!
You are just getting started and already the transformation of that place is looking incredible!
Hi Alex
🤘🤘🤘 can’t wait to show you what we’ve done since you’ve been here!
One correction! The previous owner did not leave junk you bought the junk from the previous owner😎
Hah guess that’s true!
Perkins crew are the best!
Well done all. The poor old shop vac is gonna get a work out. Have a good one 👍🇦🇺
No kidding, it’s working hard in there!
Surplus and recycle are best
Believe me or not, but this is the first renovation where some old wood is being recycled (reused)... Respect from my side.
Dude! This is so exciting!!
PS I just bought 7 sheets of plywood for $68 a pop. It was painful. Nice job reusing ply
I'm about ready to start getting scrap lumber from the side of the road.
Wow, I wish plywood was that cheap here.
You need to be very careful when you attach the bottom chord of trusses to a plate. When the truss takes a load (like snow) it lifts up as it goes in tension and can pick the wall up with it. You need to use a connection device (they make them) that will allow the chord to go up but that restrains side to side movement.
It's been a while since I've watched Perkins Builder Bros. I'm going to have to hop back in
one of the funnest vids i've seen in a while 😂 great bunch of guys enjoying themselves and yet still getting the job done!
So excited to see this space get closer to your vision. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching Cory! Can't wait to get the CNC back up and running.
Love it when the Perkins crew joins in.
Awesome bunch of friends!!
Looks good Johnny. I bet it feels great to see the dream shop come together. I know I can’t wait for that day. Right now I’ll deal with my 12x20 1 car garage.
Looking real good so far. Can't wait to see more videos soon Johnny. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep Making. God bless.
Fantastic, Johnny! The place is looking MUCH better! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Excellent job! Multiple people on a crew is definitely beneficial, especially when they know what they are doing. Strong back, weak mind is good for demolition, but construction demands a strong mind to work with the strong back. You have that with these guys!
What you call rat runs in the Midwest and Missouri stiff back or hogbacks plus we put a 2×6 vertically along the long of two-by-four
Good job & fantastic crew !!!👍👏👏💪💪
Those Perkins Buildre Bros and RayJay Builder Buddies are gold!
Stay safe.
Yep it’s nice to see the changes taking place.
Very exciting!
Love from Chandigarh,(punjab-india),watch your all vid since u started this channel.
A good crew is worth the $. Those guys are killing it! Great progress even having to do the structural remediation. Great video!
I'm in Oregon and once I saw ALL that dust, I had to pause the video, and run down to the shop to get a dust mask to continue watching the rest of the video....nice job.
This series is the bomb! Keep it up
Thanks Kyle!
An epic dust bomb it is! Totally looking forward to the rest!
Keep them coming
That's awesome I like the Perkins I've been watching their channel for a while
These collabs between highly skilled buddies are great
Thanks, they're a ton of fun too!
Love it so much watching it twice
Nice!
i just got back from doing my own demo taking out 3 walls and got a few hundred worth of 2x4's and i just wanna say dewalt's impacts are awsome
They sure are! Good luck on your project!
The bottom chord of your trusses needs to be able to flex up and down, depending on the wind rating in your area how necessary it is to secure centre of the bottom chord at all
Run battens long the top of the bottom chords and block either side of the bottom chord on the bearer and remove the screws you put it
This will allow it to flex like it needs to but not rack
That’s the plan!
Thanks I really enjoyed it
Terrific work Johnny & you are sure lucky to have that great crew working with you! 👍👍😉😉
Good
Ray and Jay are the best from the Perkins crew and Jamie makes me laugh also!
Love these big conversions jobs, enjoying the following can't wait to see the end
Well done!
Your new shop is taking shape, and looking good!
Thanks!
It's nice to see someone reuse materials since normal everyday people can't afford lumber right now.
I'm definitely trying to keep the already big budget down on this project!
Super super exciting !!!! VIVA PBB & RayJay
Love your videos and how you explain everything!!
Great progress! Excited for the next installment!
I work my electrical job during the week just to watch more construction videos on the weekends lol.
Nice....! Good job
I. Liiikkkkeeeee. it
What a great project! I’m excited to follow along!
Welcome aboard!
That looked like a fun time with the Perkins crew!
It was a ton of fun!
Love watching the progress! Question. Where do you get them awesome looking safety glasses?!?!
wow! your work is amazing
This dude is lucky. RUclips recommended this so congrats on a Milly when it happens with RUclips support :) (no snark)
Thanks. MORE !
More to come!
dustmasks guys!!!! i want to watch your videos for a long time... please dont stop because of breathing problems. this comes from a person with breathing problems..... its literally the worst thing to live with
Came here to say this. Mind-blowing to see guys in all that old dust, breathing it in.
Watching all the work is fun, but at what point would building a new shop be more cost and/or time effective?
Awesome stuff Johnny! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks Fred!
Looking great!
Thanks!
Great work! Looks awesome already !!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great work!
great stuff!
Thanks!
Loving this series keep it up. :)
Glad you enjoy it!
Up cycling and “slo-mo dust”……does it get any better? It’s less like work when you have a bunch of buddies to have fun with, isn’t it? Looking good. ….
It went sooooo much faster with the guys, super fun couple of days!
Hi I am Joseph Lee and I am a carpenter plus US Army trained carpenter I also know about timber wharf and bridge I am 70yo
I’m sneezing just watching this! Lol
No kidding!
Probably saved $15k - $20k just by using Friends with skills & re-claimed timber. Great work. Loving the channel. Billy J..... Queensland, Australia.
I can smell the dust from this video.
Nice work!
Thanks Misha!
I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.
Oh man, I feel that plywood demo, just removed 1000sqft in that same manner from a remodel we are doing. Those flooring sheets will be used as roof sheeting as needed
It was definitely worth removing the nails and reusing it, saved probably $1,000 easily.
@@craftedworkshop we stacked about 4K in lumber between studs, subfloor ply which will be used on the roof, and 2x10 joists. Just crazy
@@Natedoc808 yup! I pulled about that much material out of the old shop. Not fun but worth it.
Thought this was so fortuitous because I just bought a man girder to squeeze into my skinny jeans. Instructions unclear and now I have splinters in my unspeakables.
That is unthinkable!
I started sneezing when you started letting the dust fly, no joke.
😂 that's too funny!
MK 1 Eyeball
All that dust and only one guy with a mask?
Looks like Eric is the only one that was going to breathe the next day. That's a lot of dust to not wear a mask.
We all ended up wearing masks on and off throughout the day. Unfortunately, it's next to impossible to communicate with respirators on and tools being used, so it was kind of a trade off.
New subscriber 😊
Cool videos
This was really interesting! Gonna sub :)
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
1:35 Perfectly good sheets of Formica? Hope you saved 'em!
For sure! I’ve probably got 40+ sheets of various sizes. Can’t wait to play around with them.
4:10 - Engineer says structure will fall if XYZ not done... Roof not even connected to girders and still standing after 50 years.
Hah, I didn't have him engineer the roof structure!
you might ask him about connecting the trusses to that girder. they are supposed to be free floating over walls, but you should have a 2x4 across them to keep their spacing proper.
It appears this building was built with the principle that "elasticity handles stress better then rigid items"
I surmise there are no building inspectors in Ashe County for this thing to be built in the first place. You should rename your "workshop" to your "work shanty".
What will you be using the shop for? I've wondered what you do for a living aside from You Tube.
Someone can vacuum all the dust ?? That will be so satisfying..
Those joists are worth a fortune.
My question is what are you going to do about the shear amount of dust? Surely you'd want to rid it somehow.
Glad you enjoyed it!
👍👍👍👍
Looking great! Did you end up eliminating the opening in the 2nd floor where you were going to install a future man made elevator?
We did, those were the "trap doors" as I called them. I decided having the floor insulated was a better idea, plus we got the back doors to the attic operational so we have another way of getting material up there.
# Let Jamie Speak!
😂
ware that open was you could have put stairs there
Ahh yes. Classic. Doing construction in an enclosed space without dust masks.
Why no links to the perkins bros channel?
How are Jamie’s nubs holding up?
Saw the Perkin brothers and clicked on this vid so fast lol
Hah, glad to hear it!
whats this exosceleton glove one of the dudes had?
hi this is amazing. I think you visited my channel and that is how I found you - WOW you have a lot of subs, I am not there - not sure I will ever be there - but honored you visited my site your work is amazing
Having fun or working? (Both is possible too.)
Perkins crew....dust masks bros. Holy mess lol. Casual saving 70ish bucks a sheet of ply.
First? Woo hoo!
Yup!
Why was everything framed with screws and not framing nailers? Just curious
We mixed it up depending if we needed to pull pieces together. Also, I think we only had two nailers on hand but everyone had impact drivers.
You didn't have anyone yell "THIS IS SPARTA!" when you tossed the pieces of the trap door down. Seems like an opportunity missed....
