Jonny, please be careful as Huusk Knives is a scam company selling junk knives at high prices. Do your own research and you will see for yourself. I am not putting this on you just want to make you aware.
Please dont take this company as a sponsor. They make absolutely crap products. And yes, i have had the displeasure of trying to use one of their knives. a random piece of metal that has been sharpended is a better knife. So dont have your reputation tarnished by doing stuff like this :/
Hey Jonny - I wanted to echo the other comments on this video and comment as well because these knives are junk (I received one as a gift) and I really wish some of my favorite makers on YT would do a bit more work vetting their sponsors. The money is probably good, but you're essentially amplifying a grossly misleading company that sells a poor quality product to your viewers.
I Don't think for one second this reflects badly on you Jonny. This type of company and many others like it pop up in China overnight and claim to be the best and from what I can tell you have been scammed just as bad as the folks who paid for a knife! Any way you look at it people have been lied to and our trusting nature taken for a ride. Just a modern snake oil salesman is all they are!!
In 1982 I was working for a ceiling company. We were trying to talk the company owner into buying a laser. They cost around 25k in those days. He did not want to pay 25k. He agreed to rent one to install 2 Walmart store ceilings. After he reviewed the labor savings, he purchased a laser.
Amazing job the shop is looking fantastic. Great to have the perkins crew helping very entertaining. Also very good your father was helping out. Looking forward to more videos . Keep up the great work.
When I installed some drop ceiling as a helper, the rule was never touch the tiles with the front side of your hands due to finger prints, some of which would only show up later. You could grab the edges with your fingers and after that, only the BACK SIDE of your hand was used to put them in place. Easy to do and no more marks on the tiles!
So funny seeing resi guys do commercial work I’m an electrician and the ceiling guys used beam clamps and run the wire through the beam clamps it’s super easy and fast and less expensive than wood and screws but y’all killed it looks good
I watched every video in this series this week. I guess you'll really have to hurry things along, now, as it will be hard to wait some weeks for the next one! :) Things are really coming along great. Keep up the good work.
I've installed drop ceilings a couple times. Simple, yes, but I hate doing them. It can be super tedious and annoying. But, the finished product looks good and the access and acoustic benefits are great.
Armstrong makes a special paint for their tile. Comes in a plastic bottle and the lid has brush attached to the inside. Color matches Armstrongs white ceiling tile.
I remember you hating your drop ceiling in the old garage workshop, what made you decide to go back to it? I know that back then it wasn't a choice, just what you had, but now that you did have a choice what made it better than other options available?
Curious why you decided on a drop ceiling?? I'd love to know the pros and cons, and how you made that decision? Gotta admit, it was sad seeing the exposed beams covered up!!
I’ve installed hundreds of drop ceilings over the years and have don’t them all without a laser level; laser levels are absolutely not necessary. Just figure the height you want and install your wall track with a simple level, the longer the better, then set your next wall section equal to or on top of the first, at the corner, and simply level around the room. Your main tees can then be set in the wall track and level it if you need to use multiple tees assembled together. One quick point when drilling steel higher pressure and slower speeds are used as running your drill bits at high speeds generate more heat which can quickly dull them out and make drilling harder if not impossible. There’s a reason drill presses and magnetic drills are used and can run at much slower speeds with more torque for drilling steel; 2000 RPM is way too high for getting through steel.
laser is definitely not necessary but it's incredibly helpful. My shop has always used string lines every 6 ft to level the whole grid and it's the main reason I absolutely hate when we get a project to install one. Definitely at least trying the laser trick in one room.
Love it, looks amazing! Just curious what you do outside of creating content for RUclips? Are you a custom cabinet builder, how are you able to manage that side of the business while still building out your new shop? Nice job juggling both!
Love your videos, keep it up. Sorry to tell you your sponsor Huusk knives is just another scam, they're being dishonest and not as good as they claim. Huusk is based in Lithuania and the knives are made in China. The 18/10 Stainless Steel they claim the knives are made of is actually what you make pots from, not knives.
Hello, I have a question I'm not sure if you can answer. The place I'm living has a drop ceiling already in the basement. I think it was put in here a few decades ago. We are suspicious that mice were living on it at one time. We have blocked the holes that they were entering the house and are quite sure the mouse problem is gone. However, some of the tiles are a bit brown around the edges which leads us to believe that there are mouse turds or urine on the ceiling tiles. My question is can I just purchase new tiles and leave the metal structure/framing (whatever you call it) on the ceiling, and then take down the existing tiles and put new ones up there? Would it just be that simple? Is there anything I need to consider. It seems all the tiles for purchase are 2 ft x 2 ft but some of the tiles definitely look wider than 2 fit......I would say the ones closest to the wall look like that could be 3 feet wide. Can I find something that wide? Do you think when I remove the existing tiles that I'll be able to do it without mouse turds falling off the tiles? In other words, do I have to turn them sideways to get them down? Or, is there a way I could keep the tile level so nothing slides off when I'm taking them down? There are about 70 tiles. They are not all the same size. They are very plain and white and I would like to put something a little nicer there. Approximately, how much do you think I could end up spending? Sorry this is long winded message. One more question is I'm also planning to paint the basement walls. What should come first, the ceiling tiles or the painting? Thank you.
4:20 oh man. This is where a powder actuated nailer would have been perfect. Much faster than drilling out and screwing. Hilti dx460 and red caps would have made short work of that.
I didn't see any AC vents but if you do have them make sure that reconnect the duct work very good with foil tape and plastic zip connectors. Condensation will stain your tiles quickly also the upgrade in cost for your tiles to vinyl covered is worth it you'll will be able to clean them always enjoy y'all's videos
I feel like you got something here man you could brand it the 'Crafted Workshop' and allow people to possibly come in to rent your woodworking skills or tools like your industrial planers or cnc machines under your supervision obviously
The noise reduction from drop ceilings is due to the fact they are suspended and can dampen vibrations by vibrating themselves. If you have to much airflow from say a door or HVAC system you might find they actually make noise actually. This is due to the tiles moving in the grid and they “bounce” due to that there are products that can attach the ceiling tiles to the crib but if you do they then they don’t move as much meaning they don’t vibrate and therefore aren’t as sound dampening.
Looking really great. This is obviously not a low budget project. Are you investing in your future with a buy once cry once mentally or is the channel generating enough that this is just a good tax write off?
Basically both! Planning to do a video with a cost breakdown but I am able to make money on the content and get some products provided, which helps a ton.
The Huusk knives are a scam, they've got nothing to do with Japan. They're an eastern european company who's knives are made in China out of cookware grade steel, not knife grade.
Do you have specific examples of this? The ones I found are made of ATS-34, which IS a Japanese steel and is a mid grade knife steel. It's a copy of 154CM which even Benchmade has used in the past.
@@bigvegasshow are they trolling? They do have nothing to do with Japan and are made in China. They claim to be made of the same steel as Katanas even though Katanas were never made of steel. It doesn't take much searching to see many people have had issues with this company.
Yeah I remember back in the 70’s , we’d break out the ole laser lever when we installed a drop ceiling. The job just couldn’t go on without one ( sarcasm ). Your to reliant on technology. Learn to do it the old way, do it right the first time, no one is in that much of hurry and if you are , you might want to consider a different line of work.
Sorry but. You should never overlap wall angle. You can overlap inside corners. You should not start metal grid in middle of room. It should be started at wall using Jet line to keep framing straight. Once first row is installed you can now work your way across the room. It’s a very easy job. One man can do it. Two is easier with one man being the ground man. Too many missed details to explain.
Unless you’ve got thousands and thousands of dollars to waste on a tongue and groove ceiling or drywall just for the ceiling, then drop ceilings do the job just fine. Yes they’re ugly as fuck, but it’s a shop, not a house.

Looking very nice, Johnny! ThePerkins Crew is worth its weight in Gold!
What an amazing coincidence, I finished binging everything up until now about an hour ago lol.
Perfect timing!
Lol, how odd. I did the exact thing. 😂
Haha me too man!😂
Same here haha
Before lasers, we used water level. They were simple, especially if you put some food coloring in the tubes. Looks great 👍
I used this method myself numerous times along with a chalk line and string level. A laser level would have been a lot faster and easier.
the big advantage of water levels is that they work even in different rooms. That's something no laser can do.
If I was creating a world, I wouldn't mess about with butterflies and daffodils. I would have started with lasers - eight o'clock, day one.
In 1982 I was working for a ceiling company. We were trying to talk the company owner into buying a laser. They cost around 25k in those days. He did not want to pay 25k. He agreed to rent one to install 2 Walmart store ceilings. After he reviewed the labor savings, he purchased a laser.
And inexpensive! Only the cost of 50 feet of clear tube.

Good tip!
another pro tip is that you can use a white rubber eraser to remove any fingerprints on white ceiling tiles 👍🏻
Just marathoned the whole series, place looks better than most professional shops!
That’s awesome, thanks! Almost time to start woodworking again!

What an amazing WorkShop 🙌🏻
Cheers from Denmark🇩🇰
Night and day difference with a ceiling! This makes me want to go ahead and just finish my basement gym/workshop space and close things in.
Them Perkins boys sure do love their Lexel!

Fantastic, Johnny! The space is looking fantastic! 😃
I'm definitely looking forward to what comes next!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you for introducing me to the Perkins boys. I’ve been really enjoying their builds. 🤙🏼😈🤙🏼
Just smashed through this series over the past few days, absolutely loved it!
Subbed to the channel & looking forward to more episodes 👌👌
Awesome, thanks man!

this building looks amazing you and the perkins boys have worked a miracle =)
Always see stuff on ur channel like damn that is what those are used for 👍 👏 🙌 💯 🔥
I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.
Use white liquid shoe polish to cover up small marks on the tiles.
Armstrong makes a special paint for their tile. Comes in a plastic bottle and the lid has brush attached to the inside. Color matches Armstrongs white ceiling tile.
when moveing ceilingtiles use the back of your hand and push up and to one of the sides, or have some white cotton gloves for the tiels.
I remember you hating your drop ceiling in the old garage workshop, what made you decide to go back to it? I know that back then it wasn't a choice, just what you had, but now that you did have a choice what made it better than other options available?
Reckon the ability to use the space above the ceiling to run wires, ventilation and more, outweigh the downsides of it.
Light fixture location also.
Looks so good! Nice work man
If it hasnt been said already, a rivet tool is handy for connecting cross tee's on the main tee when you need to do funny angles.
😂 I've been a grid ceiling mechanic for 44yrs and I've never seen grid hung the way yall did it. Sorry I couldn't resist. 😂😂😂
Armstrong grid and tile sucks. Chicago Metallic all the way. Stronger and stiffer by far.
Hehe, what a long and crazy road this has been for you but also for us! :P
Stay safe and we'll see you next time.

Nice, that’s awesome! More videos coming soon!
Make sure you add tie wire to all the lights. They all need to be supported incase the ceiling fell.
Cutting the bottom of the wall molding on that radius wall is diabolical🤣
Nice job. Nice video
Have you discussed the reasons you chose a drop ceiling? Others than a pattern plywood ceiling being to expensive?
Love it, looks amazing! Just curious what you do outside of creating content for RUclips? Are you a custom cabinet builder, how are you able to manage that side of the business while still building out your new shop? Nice job juggling both!
RUclips is my full time job, so making these videos is how I make a living!
Looks amazing
Looks great
FYI, over time the sawdust will migrate above the drop ceiling and it won’t take that long.
As someone who loves to watch your videos and the Perkins Builder Brothers videos... When are you going to be a part of a Perkins video?
Your shop is looking amazing and way better than mine. I can't wait to see it fully p and operational and how you set up the space great job.
Can't wait either! Ready to get back to woodworking soon.
I do hope you repaint the outside of the building one day.
Most definitely, it’s a huge job though!

They made little sponge looking things that clean finger prints from ceiling tiles!
Liked for Perkins crew, alone.
Why 4ft tiles? 2x2 have less sag over time. Just wondering, and not trolling. Was it the cost factor?
*Pulls out Blades of Chaos* "Check out these Japanese inspired knives!"
Looks awesome esp the 100k worth of lighting lol
I keep forgetting this is a woodworking channel 😂
Drywall or plywood wasn’t an option on the ceiling joists?
Hell ya. Looks who is back.

How can I improve my workshop?
If you get rid of the metal halide lights I’ll take them
New video, LEETSS GOOO 🤟🏼
Oh wait first comment 😂
🤘🤘
Do you miss the natural light? I would feel so trapped
Tht was the guy from Perkins construction drilling, I forgot his name
I do that for a living
Is this the first time ever that I’m seeing the Perkins crew NOT use Zip tape for something?
Should someone tell him to slow the rpm down when drilling steel
Top flight crew assembled for this installation!👍🏼
This workshop looks so good I could get my dental work done in there.
Hah!

how have you not Epoxied that ugly floor yet lol but seriously good job with this whole project!

Or call it 'Crafted' kinda like 'woodcraft' you could have like a small retail section with merch or woodworking tools and products / glues etc...
👍👍

Oooof I hope that’s not how you are doing your ceiling wire supporting all of that.
