Great video. I love the het set pickups. They're the only active pickups I like. Every other active pickup makes every guitar sound the same to me.

All of these sets are in DIFFERENT guitars man.
HetSet wins overall, in my opinion. All three sound great though.

I think that the Het Set sounded the best clean.
HetSet is the king of EMG pickups.
The others sounded the same. The HetSet is the only ones that can go head to head with a normal passive Duncan JB or Distortion. Perfect blend of active and passive. HetSet FTW
81 and 57 sounded the same? Are you deaf? Het set is based off of 81-60 and the 81 and JH-B is nearly identical sounding, the 57 is a lower output pickup which probably is why it sounds a bit darker.
Zyx The reason they sound "darker" is because they have Alnico 5 magnets whereas the 81 and Het set have Ceramic magnets. Ceramic is bright, sharp, and overall a treble based magnet. Alnico 5 on the other hand is a fuller, dynamic, and mid range based magnet. The output of the 57/66 and 81 are almost identical.

The JH set sounded the best to me probably because i have 2 guitars with emg hz's in them and i love them.

Yes! I god damn love some EMG cleans. Even the 81 in the bridge of my ESP Alexi has a very cool unique clean.
They just don't know what a volume or tone knob does. I don't understand why people expect to not touch the volume knob on high output pickups and then bitch when they don't clean up at full volume.
I liked more the 85..i felt it had more low end body
I have the following configurations, a Gibson Explorer '76 reissue with a Het set, an ESP LTD Grey Truckster with 81/60, a PRS SE Nick Catanese with 81/85, a 2001 Gibson Les Studio with 57/66 and a PRS SE Tremonti with 57/66.
Of those, the Gibson is by far my favorite. Warm smooth cleans and very tight, but still very dynamic overdriven. The same goes for the 57/66's, although they seem to tend to break up just a little bit earlier than the Het set. The 81/60 and 81/85 are clearly metal combo's, I rarely use them for cleans. They do tend to sound a little bit uber loud. Kind of the same I later heard in a comparison video Rob Chapman did for Andertons TV with a Snakebyte.

Sounds like EMG's to me.
The only way to be accurate is to try every set in the same guitar. Every guitar sounds different,even if you have the same model from the same manufacturer.

57's are really good for clean stuff, and also slightly better for disted stuff, compared to the 81's. Still, I think the JH beats all the other ones. Damned nice pickups.
The 81's are really bad for clean stuff. Generally speaking, active humbuckers don't do clean stuff very well, imo.
Sounds like too much gain to tell any difference... clean kinda but imo all emgs sounds about the same

EMG 81 win for me! The great treable razor things, and ultimate and a ultimate hi gain sound! Seymoure blackouts and other active pickups - sucks!
