Ive noticed that that exact difference in gauge can have an impact on the tone, with the 11-56 (i use NYXL) are a lot warmer, and lack the higher end compared to the 10s. But in this case you can clearly hear the pickups so its fine
Heyhey Torok, Totally agree 👍 Love that step by step comparisons, great work 👏👏👏 I wish you and your loved ones a Merry Chrismas and relaxing days ☝ You Rock 🤟
I've owned the Het Set before myself. Wasn't that keen to be honest. Currently running a lone 57 in the bridge position of a custom guitar I had made for me. Hits the spot and imo, is better than the Het Set and the "go to" 81. Great comparison btw. Keep it up!
I went through 2 non skippable ads, that means that your channel is growing well! Happy for you! Great video. The differences are very subtle. I went through all the EMGs and I'm eying the Jim Root signature now. Bye!
Oh sorry for these ads ! I think that's due to the pre-Xmas period, I see much more ads on every chan I'm watching. Thanks for your appreciation man ! I will have the EMG JR on the chan as soon as possible, I think I will compare them with the Het Set. See you !
@@ToroKchannel No pb! I removed "Ad Block" on RUclips in order to support channels I like. The JR EMG are very wide sounding and have a kinda girth and nastiness.
I have both sets myself in two different guitars. I also have the Emg afterburner installed in both axes. I moved from passives to actives a while ago. I used to only buy bareknuckle pickups, nothing wrong with them but I just prefer actives now. The first actives I tried was fishman Florence. Please don’t hate me but I really didn’t like them. I installed Emg and never looked back
I'm in the same exact boat man. My last passives were Bill Lawrence L500s. I sold a couple of Gibsons with them to get cash to put toward my new gear, which are all using actives. I had a LTD SN1000FR with Fishman Fluence Moderns, and I wasn't impressed by them. I did find myself using the "passive voicing" more frequently, which somewhat defeated the purpose of having the dual voicing, and even then they sounded kinda buzzy-distorted-like. EMG has always managed to deliver CLEAN sounding overdrive. With that said, I've really found myself enjoying the Het set, as it retains the typical 81 characteristics, but with a nearly passive-like quality, and it EQs really well.
Great video, thanks man. I have 8 guitars with the 57/66 or 57/66 tw and the Het Set in 2 guitars (though probably swapping them out of the newest one). This video catches the difference very well imo, the more "pinched mids" sound of the Het Set and the deeper, melllow/smooth, and more full sound of the 57/66. One thing you can't really tell in any of these videos is how much more gain the Het Set has (though it is mentioned for sure!) - even though the 57 is definitely a high output p'up, I find that I need to dial back the gain a fair amount when swapping to a guitar with the Het Set in them. Overall, I primarily use the 57/66 tw set in everything now for gigging. I get such a mixture of tone possibilities with active signal stability that it's hard to use anything else. We play a mixture of 70 - current classic/hard rock (Zeppelin, AC/DC, Aerosmith, etc.) alternative, and some hair/heavy metal (heaviest being Tool and Metallica) and the 57/66 tw covers the whole tone pallet. If we were just playing metal the Het Set would be a great option though, and I personally would prefer the pronounced mids for lower tunings to stay out of the bassist's lane. Cheers!
Thanks ! It's not easy to reveal the difference of output between these two sets but the Het Set is clearly the loudest set EMG has ever made. I'd like to hear some Aerosmith songs played with the 57/66 !
@ToroK Unfortunately Aerosmith isn't on our RUclips but there's comparable stuff, like Led Zeppelin, that has a similar sound. The black ESP SV has the 57/66 tw set (I use coil split and tone/volume knob adjustments to get those warm, creamy LZ/Aerosmith type tones) and the Gibo explorer has the standard 57/66 set in it. I play live exclusively with at least 1 guitar having the 57/66 tw, and a few have the regular 57/66 in them. Keeps me from having to tweak "amp" settings in the Kemper and just do it from the guitar knobs. Ignore my craptastic playing - I'm definitely not the main attraction for our band 🤣 youtube.com/@darkmatter6827
Basically the Het Set is a mix between EMG 81/60 and some Gibson pickups (don't ask me which ones thought). In the meantime, EMG was working on the 57/66 set and the 57 is made for sounding like the gibson 57. The 66 is just an evolution of the 60.
Forgot to mention : the string gauge on the C-1 is 10-52, the string gauge on the Solo-II is 11-56. Daddario strings, as usual :)

Very interesting. Thanks 👍
thank you :)
Fascinating that they sound so similar. I always thought the Het Set was supposed to be a modified 81/60

I am sitting here listening with high end headphones and it's too close to call.
