This is an incredible comparison, really awesome work. I like the Fishman better for distortion and the 57 better for cleans, but they both sound amazing and very usable for both applications.
I was about to upgrade my Ibanez then this showed up in my suggestion. I have EMG 57 on my Schecter, so this is the comparison I needed. About to choose between DiMarzio, Seymour Duncan, and Fishman. But I have no doubt now, with its multi voice, it's like killing two stones with one bird! Good job on this comparison, mate!
I agree but I didn't agree until I bought and Ltd ec 1000 with Fishman's when you run it through an EVH 100 watt amp it sounds very mid rangy. I'm trying to see if I can work with this at low volume they sound great at high volume the Emg 81 kills it. I have to find away to work with them till this Covid is over and I get back to work. Any suggestions? I'm wondering if I could run an 81 in the bridge and Fishman in the neck? Could it be done.
@@mikejelinek1413 Sure can. The EMG's fit into the output harness of the Fishmans. You'll have to skip the voicing stuff, but you can run any EMG in Fishman harnesses, and vice versa. I swap around between the two brands all the time.
I'm confused. I like the cleans of the 57 way more than both voices of the fishman. Even the distortion sound sounds more even and organic on the 57. Didn't expected the 57 to win in both ways.
I have both of these pups in different guitars. I will say that the 57 definitely wins the battle between the two, but I've noticed that the Fishmans sound pretty good in really heavy, dense guitars. They counter that heavy bass end some guitars have. Also, they really tighten up looser amps, like Mesas. It really depends on your guitar and amp. If you have an Ibanez or something fast and light, or basswood, skip the Fishmans. I really dig the EMG Super 77's in those situations. Adds a ton of really musical bass end.
The 57 sounds like an angry PAF. End of story. I had 3 sets of Fishman humbuckers (Modern, Classic, Adler) and sold all of them because they do sound so artificial. I also said this on the Fishman Instagram but of course they deleted my comment. Ha!
@@Coggler101010 It's supposedly pronounced the same (allthough "timbre" would be pronounce "tim-bree"), so no, _genius_ for all intends and purposes it's not.
Are the 57/66 set a solid replacement for the 81/85?? Seems like they have a little more clarity and are midrange focused. I have fishman moderns with 6 voicings double push pull pots and those are phoemominal.
The modern’s sound reminds me of a cheap 50-70 dollar line 6 amp from guitar center that was attempted to be “beefed” with pedals. While that 57 is just slamming with a good tube head and cab set up.
I’ve yet to keep any Fishman sets I’ve tried. They sound good, but not as good as the hype led to to believe. Tried Moderns, Classics, and the Devin Townsend set. Still prefer EMG 81s and in this video, the 57.
It sounds a little bit like an EMG 81/57 comparison...when it comes to power on the lowest string, the 57 looses because of a bit less definition and articulation. When you compare the 57 and a Fluence this is exactly the case as it is with the 81. But taken together and regarding all strings the 57 wins over both 81 and in this case the Fluence due to smoother tone and less...let's call them "hurting frequencies"...you know what I mean?
im sorry but fishman blew the 57 out of the water in distortion. I dont how anyone can disagree, I think it was objectively better. I guess its just personal preference but the EMGs sound very old
The EMG just sounds how a high power humbucker should sound. It's both beefier as well as more open and natural than the Fishman. That thing sounds as if the "contour" or "shred" knob that some amps have was turned all the way up. The attack starts to sound almost squashed, there's a phasey thin-ness to the tone and the highs have that nasty screech to them. The EMG is just a lot tighter and more muscular. So yeah. There's absolutely nothing surprising about preferring the vastly superior 57.
I think the EMG 81s and 81X are still the best. I have Fishmans that came with my Jackson and they're "too perfect". Sound is good but actually playing through them is not as pleasing.
Emg sounds more natural. Fishman sounds boosted. I like both but for heavy metal I'd be running a boost anyway so it would put the 57 on more even ground by clearing up the bottom end. Either way they're both awesome
....Old lmao? The Fishmans had a synthetic, artificial, digital compression sound. The 57 had a natural, authentic timbre. The 57 is "objectively" better. My Ibby RG and Ltd ec1000 have Fishman Moderns. I will be switching to 57's. I didn't realize there was such a difference, or I would've stayed away from Fishmans. They don't sound bad at all, just very underwhelming.
It doesn't get much better than an 57. Such a beast of a pickup.
I keep coming back to the 57... man they got it right. I can't think of anything I'd change about it.
It growls in a very unique way.
The only active pickup I’ve own has been the wylde 81/85 and blackouts
That 57 is so in your face just like a more tamed invader
Best pickup comparisons on RUclips, thank you!
Thank you for the words!! :)
Да точно,лучшее сравнение!Ещё вчера я думал купить fishman,а сегодня послушал EMG 57 и я понял,что он мой выбор,он лучший❤😅😊😅
The 57 in the bridge and the 60 in the bridge with the 24v mod are incredible
DUDE that's my set up!

I have emg retro 70s in the guitar I'd like to use the 57/66 in.
Always a excellent quality presentation with clear and concise results. 🤘
Thanks!!!
The EMG Smokes any voicing on the Fishman

Fishmans are overhyped Pickups...i stay with EMG´s they never dissapoint
i feel like the fishman sounds more synthetic
This is exactly what I came to comment lol. The 57 just has a more authentic, "natural" timbre to it, and it's especially noticeable on the cleans.

EMG 57
Hemi 5.7
FN 5.7 Caliber
Need I go on..? 😁
Fishman sounded louder, and it’s nice to have 2 voices for one set of pickups instead of emg57=boosted passive emg81=ceramic asf
EMG57
57 sounds a bit mushy in comparison but definitely still one of the best, FFM would be better for some/music though imo.
57 all day long and twice on Sunday
Fishmans are definitely driving the amp harder.
I don’t think so, the emgs are way hotter
EMG57 > 81 > Fishman
EMG очень живой,теплый,прозрачный звук.fishman как робот.
It looks like the fisman's have higher output and the input wasn't adjusted for that.
this model with the black nickel top actually is higher output than the regular matte top one
Emg won this on every front. The fishman sounds like a digital recreation of what it thinks a guitar pickup would sound like
Yeah the fishmans are way more clear and transparent
emg better. more mids
