J’avais essayé le 30W chez un pote. Son très rock’n’roll, accepte mal les grosses distos - le son devient boueux - bref, pas pour le métal !

En soi les Roswell actifs ne sont pas mauvais mais au bout de quelques mois, un bruit parasite apparait et finit par s’amplifier. Tu as bien fait de changer pour EMG rien que pour ça :)

Hi Daniel ! The chugs are sounding good with the SC-Custom III passive but I prefer the articulation of the Roswell HAF. I have already been thinking about reviewing a guitar witj Fishman Fluence pickups, I will try and do it before the end of 2024 :)

No, you can actually also buy them at Musicstore Cologne, a direct Competitor to Thomann.

They also make pickups for other brands, like Squier.

Don’t worry you’re not late :) I guess you intend on playing metal music, do you ? The ST-20 HH active I have reviewed was a really interesting guitar, but I’ve also heard several people complaining about the noise of the HBZ active pickup on theirs. Eventhough I didn’t encounter this problem, it might happen. The R-446 is a very nice player and for the price the pickups are really good but, in my mind, less good than the LTD LH-100 pickups you will get on the LTD MH-10. In the « big brand small price » category, the MH-10 is the best I’ve had in my hands. The R-446 is a very good guitar too and the tone will mainly depend upon your amp, so it’s a good choice too. The ST-20 HH has a brutal metal tone for sure, but if you intend on playing clean tones, you will realiza that the level of output on the HBZ pickups is too high to get a real nice clean tone. Bonjour, au niveau jouabilité, les 2 sont tout à fait comparables, même forme de manche, on passe de l'une à l'autre sans se sentir dépaysé. Niveau son, les différences sont très claires. Sur la Custom III active, un niveau de sortie bien plus élevé, un son plus présent dans les basses - la SC 550 II a beaucoup de bas medium mais très peu de basses - et un son d'une précision chirurgicale en disto et très cristallin en clean. Si tu ne connais pas les micros actifs, imagine que tu joues sur des micros simples bobinages sous EPO, c'est très différent du son très rond, qui me fait penser à un piano en arpèges sur la SC 550 II

C'est surtout que l'ESP Eclipse, dont dérive cette SC Custom III est précisément une interprétation moderne de la LesPaul. D'ailleurs le son de la SC Custom II en version passive était plus moderne comme on peut l'entendre dans la vidéo. Enfin, la Harley Benton SC-550, qui est une copie de la LesPaul a déjà un son clairement vintage, et là pour le coup, ça fait sens :)

Hi ! This SC Custom III active is 1.5mm thicker than the SC Custom III passive I have reviewed but, again, I really think this is a final prototype. I could easily play funky riffs with this axe, active PU sound really good for this. If you roll the tone off on the neck pickup by 1/3 or a half, you've got a very nice tone for bluesy leads. Now, I never play Jazz or country or folk rock so I cannot tell if it would sound good or not and I never give advices about things that I don't know :)

I've had the same feeling for years, but in time, I've started appreciating passive PU as well :)

Bonjour, je pense que cette guitare est un très bon point de départ, car elle reste abordable et c'est un instrument de très bonne qualité. Même en occasion, on ne trouve pas mieux à ce prix là. Maintenant, selon vos affinités musicales, il faut voir si la version à micros passifs vous conviendrait mieux que la version à micros actifs. Mais pour le métal, celle-ci sera parfaite !

Je vais faire un montage pour avoir une comparaison vu que j'ai utilisé le même matos et les mêmes réglages :)

"tribute series" was the name on the head of the prototypes. Progressive series is the name the EX-84 from the first generation, it's now discontinued. Pro series is the current name for the Ex-84 modern.

Je vais essayer de ne pas faire trop long, mais je ne garantis rien :) Les Harley Benton ont beaucoup évolué, plusieurs guitaristes qui connaissent la marque depuis plus de 10 ans m'ont raconté ce qu'étaient les modèles de l'époque. Même à mon échelle de temps, depuis 2018, année de ma première commande de Harley Benton, je constate des progrès très significatifs. Il faut savoir, par exemple, que les SC Custom III sont fabriquées dans les usines de World Music Industries, c'est à dire les mêmes usines qui produisent de nombreuses LTD ou Schecter. Donc, en matière de qualité de fabrication, et donc, de durabilité, je ne suis pas inquiet du tout. Pourquoi une LTD est à ce point plus chère ? 3 raisons principales : 1- comme pour toutes grosses marques, tu payes le Roster. Eh oui, jouer la même marque que Metallica, pour ne citer qu'eux, ça a forcément un coût en matière d'image de marque. 2- La réputation, non usurpée, de grande qualité et de longévité des produits de la marque. Ca implique un contrôle qualité très exigeant, donc des standards de production un peu plus élevés que ce que demande Harley Benton, en ce qui concerne les finitions en particulier. 3- la marge distributeur. ESP LTD paye Thomann pour que Thomann, plus gros revendeur d'instruments de musique en Europe, distribue leurs guitares. Evidemment, Harley Benton étant une marque de Thomann, ils ne payent pas cette marge, et ça a un impact très important sur le prix que nous, consommateurs finaux, payons. Ca ne veux pas dire qu'une LTD est une arnaque, de loin s'en faudrait ! Et, à la revente, une LTD d'occasion garde généralement une très bonne côte (surtout les EC 1000, mais les séries EC en général sont très prisées). Pour ma part, et grâce à l'expérience que j'ai acquise avec ma chaîne youtube, je suis vraiment impressionné par la SC-Custom III active que j'ai choisi de conserver. Je connais bien LTD, et je pense très sincèrement que cette Custom III et une LTD EC-401 sont comparables à de nombreux égards. J'essayerai de faire ce comparatif vidéo en septembre.

I need to compare the Tesla Active pickups with the EMG Hot 70 that are coming with the Custom Plus. But at first feel, I would go for the Custom III active cos' it's great and it's 100€ cheaper than the Custom Plus

Thanks ! EMG LTD necks all have the same shape : 20 to 22mm thick from the nut to the 12th fret and a U shape. I mainly know the Ibanez Wizard III neck with its C shape and 19-21mm thickness (that's what I have on my RGA 42 FM). Both are very comfortable and I feel fine despite the difference of shape. Now I would not feel comfortable on the super ultra thin 17-19mm necks that Ibanez makes for their japanese guitars. I don't think any other brand goes so far in slimness !

Thanks ! The Viper 10 is currently unavailable for weeks. Now, I have reviewed the EC 10 and the MH 10, the sound will be the same on the viper 10 cos' you've got the same woods and pickups. As far as the playability goes, I have reviewed the Viper 256 a while back so it should already give you a good idea of what to expect about this Viper -10 :)

Si tu l'as depuis 2 ans, ça veut dire qu'elle est encore sous garantie. Fais une demande de retour SAV. Perso j'ai jamais eu ce problème sur les Harley Benton que j'ai conservé, donc un remplacement devrait résoudre ton problème.

I prefer the Teslas on the SC 550 II especially for the clean tones, they're special, when I play arpeggios it almost sound like a piano. For hi gain tones, the SC 550 II sound even more vintage, with very low mids and not a lot of bottom end, but that might be due to the chambered body of this guitar.

Pour moi le côté vintage vient des medium assez bas et d'aigus qui sont très raisonnables. Du coup oui, ça sonne un peu plus dark. A contrario, les Roswell HAF de la custom II ont des mediums plus hauts et offrent un son plus agressif et modern.
