  • Now this is a Porsche I have wanted to try out for quite a while, the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo. Not only because the Taycan represents Porsches first venture into electric, but also because it carries Porsches next generation design language, and is perhaps what I envisage to be the perfect car for me, a design led dad who loves Porsches. So lets see what its like shall we...

    Great review.
    Brake callipers painted in black with those alloys is the biggest waste of money ever :')
    I just bought a taycan cross 4s from Porsche, it was a cancelled order and someone had specced it with black painted callipers. It's crazy how much that extra was. They also specced 21" alloys painted gloss black. I dread to think how much new tyres are going to cost me.
    Such a good time to buy a Taycan through the business at the moment. Dealerships have targets on EVs to hit before 2024. That and the new taycan facelift coming in March means they're keen for a sale.
    The spec on mine was £123k after corporation tax savings it will end up costing £75k brand new and highly specced. Unbelievable value, even beats the current famously low second hand prices (£80k - £90k ish for a lower spec one with 10k miles on it.)
    Never thought about buying one before, had a Model S and then an X but decided to go for this as Tesla cancelled my Model S Plaid pre order as they're not bringing the S or the X back to the UK for the foreseeable future.
    Hoping I made the right choice.
    Mine doesn't have adaptive cruise control or rear axle steering though, I'f I'd have specced it myself I would have done for those over the massive wheels and calliper painting.

    I'm tempted by a Sports Truism I must admit but the public charging network is a bit of a concern. I have driven to North Eastern Italy 7 times in my Model 3, it's a doddle. Would it be the same in a non Tesla? It's getting better but as supply of cars picks up the charging networks are going to be playing catchup up for some time. The integration of navigation, plug and charge, reliability of chargers, availability of chargers ... Tesla set the standard for others to meet. Good news Porsche have started building their own network (1 built so far) and the dealers have been told to move their chargers to the public side of their properties to increase availability (what genius thought putting them where they were only available during office hours was a bright idea I don't know). Facelift next year, 106kw battery, more efficient .... could be a nice upgrade. Meanwhile 2nd hand values are bombing, getting close to new M3P prices .... ooh

    • @karlhurn
      @karlhurn  6 месяцев назад

      If Porsche do a deal with Tesla, then there will be less range anxiety for cross continent travel. Replaced by overcrowded Tesla chargers though. With a home charger it’s fantastic for 99% of the journeys most people do in a year. But you are right about the Porsche dealer chargers, awesome system and design of chargers let down by locked up dealerships!

    Oh and don't get me going about Leicester Forest East, my youngest is in her last year at Loughborough, apparently it's a DNO problem. There's even talk of activating an old site up the road apparently. Fosse Park is a nightmare for traffic, thank goodness for Rugby and the Tesla expansion there.

    • @karlhurn
      @karlhurn  6 месяцев назад

      You’re right! I think the LFE services chargers still have tape around them, and I filmed this a year ago! Fosse parks chargers are always full. Home charging or hybrid is the way at the moment. The hybrid Panamera is more luxury than the Taycan.

    I imagine the top speed is a little higher than the Twizzy, although I do remember hitting 54MPH in it
    Probably can't drift the Taycan around the Aldi roundabout with the same abandon though

    • @Neojhun
      @Neojhun 7 месяцев назад

      You very much can drift a Taycan, engineers spent alot effort to make it good at that. But the bigger issue is cost and risk of damage for such an expensive car. BEVs are excelent at drifting, even a base Model 3 Short Range is a drift missile.

    £2538k for vinyl seats ?????? Lots of silly options that should come as standard. Automatic cruise and heated seats plus steering wheel. Other VAG group cars have it as standard. Are all options actually fitted and just activated by software ? Lot of room wasted with narrow hatch and wide rear wings.

    Whenever I see a Taycan, the teardrop shape shedding from the headlights ‘Design language’ tells me it’s weeping for the naturally aspirated 4.0 flat six engine it’s never going to know.

      That’s not my experience to be honest. I’m driving a 911 992 Carrera 4 GTS at the moment and the service interval is 2 years, and the service cost is pretty reasonable.

      There is a black trim option as well for the windows as the Offroad package...
      OK, it leaves another booking money on the ticket but it looks better.
      Shure, on every Porsche you have standards as payable option and upon that you can really configure it the way you want to be unique.
      At least Porsche isn't a car manufacturer of normal kind so you pay for the built quality, the name and the Porsche typically drive and handling.
      The Cross Turismo 4S is the best choice if you have gravil roads and need more space under the car plus a comfortable ride.
      From sporty eyes the GTS will be the better choice.
      😉
