    So..
    1) don't buy a taycan
    2) wait to buy a taycan
    3) UK infrstructure sucks for range
    4) don't worry about the range
    5) enjoy the car

Interesting video as i have just bought a used 1 year old GTS selling my 20 month old 911. Collected it in Edinburgh and drove it to South Wales 510 miles and charged in three Ionity stations and got from 5% to 85% in about 30 min so no complaints there. What a drive home so comfortable and so easy to drive.

    • @TABonTV

Exactly - as per the video my experience of Ionity has been fantastic - there just simply isn't enough of them! Why did you decide to brave the change from the flat 6 if I may ask?

@@TABonTV My closest Ionity charger is 70 miles away. The reason i changed my 911 was the fact it was inconvenient as i only did 3200 miles in 20 months. I do have another vehicle a Ford Ranger Wildtrack but ended up going everywhere in that as we could not take anybody else in the 911.

9 months of ownership with 10,000 miles on my 4S CT and I agree with everything you say. That said, it’s without doubt still putting a massive smile on my face every time I get in it and drive it (and having come from an F90 M5 interestingly I don’t miss that car at all). I have to add mine is a company lease and the BIK in kind is still so low that even if it were a piece of s@@t I would still love it 👍🤣 (but it’s not, it’s a work of art). I went to Amsterdam and back this week and the continent have it absolutely on the button. Loads of fast chargers, loads of slow chargers and if you currently use the Porsche card given to you FOC when you buy a car you only pay £0.30/kWh regardless of what the actual cost is if you use IONITY chargers (which there are loads). My electricity cost return from the SE UK which was a journey of just under 1000 miles was a touch over £100 - try and do that in a 550bhp ICE car!

I think the extra 120 mile range of the new Taycan will make a huge difference to road trips, greatly lessening the need for fast charging. The new car will do a real-world 330 miles or so. Most people won’t be doing more than 330 miles a day. A trip to Inverness from London could be done without my fast charging, just charge 100% at one overnight stop. Interesting what you say about eating tyres, if you ran a 4S on 19” tyres they are only about £115 each for a 225/55R19 front tyre, whereas the 21” tyres are £280+, as you say.

I’ve had mine for almost a month now and love it. Worth mentioning that if you buy approved used from Porsche they’ll add two years warranty to the ‘official’ end date, so it’s a much less scary ownership proposition. My car turns 3 years old in July but has approved warranty until July 2025.

I've had my 4S for three years, 27K miles in the US. I've gone through two sets of front tires and one set of rear tires. I purposely stayed with 19 inch wheels to avoid pot hole damage (and am using all season tires). I charge at home and have solar panels. Our Electrify America charging stations can be disappointing. My car doesn't have Plug & Charge so I use the Porsche App which can be exciting. One heater servo valve had to be replaced on warranty.

Buying a Porsche is always a personal decision of what you aspect of the car 🚙.
Cause the price is so high, you have to take it as adventure of feelings and emotions.
Your points are very good pointing out the things you have to think about before buying this car.... And this car is a really good one!
And also true is that the charging infrastructure in the UK is on a low level.

Great content as always as well as some pretty good advice. After playing around with the configurator for weeks, factoring in the overall price increases to the Taycan trim levels and finally, available used inventory. I decided to purchase a CPO Turbo S which was actually a higher trim and overall better spec than the GTS that I had planned to custom order. I think the depreciation ended up being the deciding factor for me. Hopefully EVs in general will hold their value better in the future as they should have better longevity/reliability than ICE cars…in theory.

Late post but I am looking at a used Taycan. Not sure if paying extra £5k to £10k from Porsche dealer worth it. Some cars aren't selling and have lost £1000's. I was tempted earlier in the month by a Crayon Taycan in Porsche Preston but at £64k for a 21 plate car it was well over priced and will have dropped £2000 in 2 weeks plus What car valued it at £57k.from a dealer. Yes you get 2 year warranty but Porsche warranty most probably like Audi warranty, worthless. The battery construction worrying as well as VW group use gel batteries instead of individual batteries like Tesla model S does. This means if you get a cell back fail you have to replace the whole thing instead of just cutting out the single damaged battery as done to several model S cars. I would want a thorough battery report on any used EV especially if spending more than £20k. 20" wheels would save the cost of tyres as 21" rear tyres £300 a corner, ouch.

My business partner has a Taycan turbo S and it great, except you can't charge it at decent speed anywhere. The advertised 300Kw charging is available at a handfull of places across the UK (or at Porsche dealers after an argument) otherwise you are left trying/waiting to charge the huge battery at a slow (7, 22, 50 Kw) charger, after you get to the front of the queue. It's useless if you want to drive, say 400 miles, as once you have used the initial charge from home, it's a minumum two hours for any decent level of charge. Hopeless at 10pm and you have 200 miles charge to take on (about four hours at most public chargers... Hopeless. Just as well she kept her old diesel Audi ... Joke! Our Model S on the other had can use any of 100+ Tesla charger stations with 1200 stalls. Never far away, never a queue, always 150Kw. Simples.

Let's play grown ups! Why would anyone buy a brand new car Knowing that 20% of the price was VAT? Also another 5% is newness. Once it arrives at the dealer is registered, you name is on the V5 it is worth 5% less already! Now if you've added those two together you 25% or 1/4 of the value gone already before you've sat in it. Then what you probably don't know is that the car was not worth the price you paid? Because the manufacturer give the dealer around 17.5% of the sale price to cover showrooms sales promotion & Warranty! But that's not the worst of it. The most profitable part of every new & Second User (Mercedes has their own exclusive) preloved car dealerships. Is the Finance department! You don't buy car you PCP or lease it. Deposit & 35 or 47 month payment and you own nothing! You have to borrow money to buy it or use it as your deposit for your next 3-4 year of high interest rate( more than your mortgage) car loan. But you do get a brand new more expensive as much as you scrap together monthly repayment car. So you've traded in your 3 year Old Merc & got a shiney new one £100K's worth. You drive passed Merc select & see one just like it at less than half the price! You go in see a salesman who tells you are lucky! Great car great price, top of the range everything & every conscevible extra. The same guy has a new one every three years through his company does 10-11K miles/year then changes it like for like even the same colour! You work out how many monthly payment on your new car if would to own this one outright! Add two more payment to cover the interest & you'd still get a 1/3rd of it's new value if you look after it!

I have a home charger and have not yet used the public charging infrastructure, I don't think I would have gone for an EV if I needed to charge away from home. I totally agree with the main point of your video, DO NOT BUY ONE, PCP or straight lease has to be the way to go! I have mine on a 3 year PCP with a guaranteed future value, so deprecation is not a concern for me. I did the same with the McLaren and just handed the car back at the end of the agreement. Also, I am far from convinced that EV is the future, any major advancement with alternatives will see EV values plummet further and for this reason, if no other, DO NOT BUY ONE!

The car is buggy and charging network is laughable. Too much weight and complexity and not much fun. No thanks and never again, that's why these are collecting dust now on lots.

Porsche Taycan is the best EV VW has. No wonder VW has problems selling their EVs.

Yeah, they're not particularly inspiring in terms of design either... Even if you compare to Kia / Hyundai.

Range is rubbish. Changing the batteries in 7-9 years isn't going to be fun and then again in 7-9 years, etc. We are still Gen 1 in EV's and until we get further down the road, I'm not interested. I'm really not interested in EV's as they have no sound which is quite important to me. I'm sure it drives well, as all Porsche's do that nicely. Glad you like yours, but not for me.
