Should You Get The Weissach Pack On The Taycan Turbo GT?
I think Porsche made a mistake using LG battery pouch cells. Tesla model S used individual cells that can easily be removed or isolated fixing the battery. A lot to be said for "keep it simple stupid". I almost bought a used Taycan but didn't based on trade in values in free fall and reliability issues plus delays in repairing them. Does Audi have the same problems ? Xiaomi SU7 looks very nice and could be my choice when released in the UK. I do worry about Chinese build and parts quality as well as software security.
Sorry for your Taycan After 3 years with a Taycan CT 4, only problem a charger out of order, otherwise the best car I have ever had. A Macan 4 since 1.5 months and 3500 km later, very satisfied. On the other hand, i suspect that their engineers do not test their car for everyday use. Example: armrest too short, the buttons of the door key remote control reversed, the buckle of the passenger seat belt knocks the car, no more regen button but a "next song"" button !! For electronics: the charge setting process for a programmed departure time does not work !!! I always ask Siri to play me a radio station, because always so complicated with the pcm No physical user manual, ok, but the one internal to the pcm does not exist for me, we can find one online, thanks to the Macan Forum, incomplete and poorly translated ... I don't know how Chinese cars are delivered, but for more than 100,000 euros, Porsche will have to do better
Turn the background music up some I can barely hear it
I have 2 2008 SL55s. Such amazing cars! Power & Performance paired with Comfort & Luxury.
So good you've got 2! Nice!
You can always put better tires. Cheapest upgrade compared to everything else
Agree - ideally need a set of slicks for the day!
@ thats maybe a bit too much but semi-slicks to drive outside of the track too probably is the best option. Also you cant just show up and drive without adjusting tire pressure after them getting hot. Brake disk temperature also spreads to them. Aggressive track brake pads as the next option? Things operate at their best in the range, not on the either ends
Maybe someone will also be interested, we have a craftsman in Georgia in the post-Soviet space, he himself has a Taycan and he repairs all VAGs. He says in terms of design, these are very simple machines. And watching him repair them, I'm just shocked. Here they remove the battery and reflash the cell. I think it will be clear with the translation, the guy has golden hands. If someone needs advice, you can ask him, he answers. ruclips.net/video/0dZwCp_4qYg/видео.html
If im spending 100k-300k on a car and hear 8 out of 10 cars in this month are in for service......the other 2 are in for engine/gearbox problems.....why the hell would i buy a mclaren?
It's a service centre, so of course you'll see broken cars there. Same with any brand I guess...
@@TABonTV Yep i fully understand that, but if youre spending a huge amount of money, you expect a certain reliability, Dont hear much about reliability from GT3 RS etc.
@catlee8064 yeah, I hear you, but there's issues at all levels. GT3 RS do have their issues too, just that there's so few on the road you're unlikely to hear about them.
This car will be sold in Russia to a clown, who will never repair it, until it stops.😅
What if it never stops? 😆 It went to a good new home in the UK.
Shut your channel down, so lame
Porsche say they amplify the sounds from the motors and take out the bad frequencies, and enhance the good ones. Is Ferrari doing similar? One question I have is when you lose traction and wheelspin etc do the artificial "revs" rise, this would indeed make a difference to the driving experience....
The e-noise with a Taycan is mostly tied to speed (as far as I can tell), so you you'd only really hear the actual tyres scrubbing
@@TABonTV Thank you very much...Ferrari says theirs will have a rise in noise when losing traction so that's interesting. Great reviews by the way 👍
A golf gti manual would need to be onit to beat a GTT being given death methinks.....well of course Golf R is different league over 200hp more and can do it all but its benign one pedal driving. Ill take the 5 for raw fun.
Amen to that - they are such fun cars!
You’ve kept it well, nicely done… future classic. On a side topic, would be good to see a post from you and get your thoughts on Jaguars 🐆 controversial decision to change its iconic branding… good move or major mistake ?
Go woke go broke
Thanks for that - yeah, a very well looked after merc. I think I'll provide some commentary on the Jag thing soon!
Useful video thanks. Don’t suppose you could show your choke cable routing through bulkhead into the engine bay please?
Thanks - I'll try and remember if I get it out again soon.
John Thorne is about as honest and straight as they come....I've been taking my 570S to him for 2 years now.....the believe their reputation and service is unmatched in the UK world of McLaren, having peace of mind while running what some people wrongly refer to as a ticking time bomb brand with poor dealer back up has a huge value in itself. McLaren need to wake up and have this business as an approved dealer
Exactly. John is a force for good. As for McLaren? I think they'd let pride get in the way
I have had 2 SL55 AMGs I am now on a Japanese import E55 AMG with the M113K Engine at the moment she is pushing out 559bhp and 474bhp at the back wheels I will be after my 3rd SL55 AMG early in 2025 ❤ I know this M113K engine inside out as I do all the work myself
One of the best engines ever made? It's got to be up there!
i am really hoping porche can up their electric game because they are most definitely better looking cars.
I'm sure they'll get there, still early days in the big scheme of things.
I'd like to know whether the iX, Taycan, e-tron GT, or EQS are the most reliable out of warranty.
The car doesn't know its out of warranty. I would always have one on any of these cars. Too much risk!
The Chinese market is gonna tank once the EU & US put the tariffs in place.....maybe not in the UK due to Brexit
Wonder what stance the UK will take...
lmao u 2 talking about EVs holding value :D
I can assure you, they held their value. For 48 seconds. 😆
@ 🤣🤣
Porsche’s problem (and that of all the western automakers outside of Tesla) is not just software but they have little to no support when it comes to the repairability of their EVs. It’s not that we don’t want them, but it’s absurd they don’t have a better system in place so that we can fix it if something goes wrong without practically having to buy a new one?! Tesla’s benefit is they have everything in house, and the Chinese makers sell at such an affordable price it’s not the end of the world even if you had to buy another one in the event of an issue. Add these problems on top of the fact that the public charging infrastructure in most places is nowhere near that of gases, charging is a long endeavor, AND the price of EVs is more expensive than its ICE counterparts practically across the board, we can’t simply say people don’t like EVs. These are some “real” hurdles you can’t expect to just leave the average consumer to figure out on their own
Some valid points there, other EVs are very much repairable, it's just the process / parts could be a bit better.
I think they’ve worked out the Engineering issues on the more recent years, but the software is still an issue. Not to mention the underside is a huge weak spot. Add on that the bloom is off the rose for EV’s, people don’t want to spend $100-200k on an EV no matter how good it is. The last pile on is the secondary market, they aren’t selling. I’ll jump on an original one when they hit $60k CDN. They’ve already backtracked on the Macan.
That's the thing, at that high initial price point the value conversation becomes much harder to justify
I thought about this car, but the Porsche sales won't sell me one because he knows how many problem this car has. The US dealers don't even want them back for trade ins. Porsche has recalled almost every Taycan from 2020-2024 just last month I think.
They've had their recalls for sure!
Personally, if I were in your position, I would ask for a free Taycan courtesy car since you've been waiting for four weeks.
I'm going to have a 'goodwill' discussion with them when it's done....
Cars breaking down, really? Never had a single issue with my 981 Boxster GTS 😂
Yeah, that's not an EV. Porsche Taycan now is rated among the most reliable EVs currently in Consumer Reports. EV reliability, thus far, has not been commensurable with the supposed simplicity of the drivetrain.
German car industry are falling rapidly not just regarding tech issues but energy cost on production, cheap energy direct from Russia have all been stopped…… all self inflicting…..
I think Porsche needs more independence in terms of software. It’s engineering has been for decades too draw, but the software is 2nd or possibly 3rd rate. Plus the EV architecture is too compromised and over complicated to be efficient and reliable. I’m optimistic that this super brand can do it, just worried that the VW group will both stifle its ability to compete and possibly cause a weakening of the brand by association as that group struggles. Another great video!
As you say - exactly the same thoughts, I'm sure they'll get there. They just need to do it with a big eye on the competition!
Dude get real. The taycan gen 1 was porsche FIRST EVER EV. U know how many problems tesla had at first? I bet not becuase no one bought them then. Now if their all new gen 2 2025 taycan models have issues ill agree. But seriously do some critical thinking before u buy or post something this dumb. No one is going to perfect their first attempt.
Yep, for the first bite of the EV apple, Porsche is ahead of the curve.
Never seen anyone suck a corporations D so hard. Defending bricked cars and acting like Porsche is a new car company. You know what R&D is? Well Porsche should have spent more on it
He said that.
@@davidkeenan5989 I believe I did 😆
Good video tabon. The chinese are good and good value in my opinion pnly tesla near them for that. The rest are done for as they dont know value and have bedn soaking us for years. Unfortunately tariff situation may save them from an early bath. If it was a free trade market the legacy makers would no t exist very mych linger . Electric viking channel quite good . Thanks again. Always watch your channel sorry to hear about the taycan
Thanks for the comments, exactly that, the threat from the completion is real!
I’ve found Porsche’s are not reliable at all. My 992 911 was constantly in for warranty work for the 4 years I had it. It was so disappointing as I thought a 911 was going to be bulletproof.
You'd think so right?
all Porsche's have lots of issues. I have to be careful as my 911 is back in for the third time this year. It has done more miles going in for repair then I have done enjoying it
10yr old Macan, 2 ABS sensors failed, Transfer box failed, seems they all did, part warranty after 9 years. That was all until a week ago when air suspension went. Nothing serious, a corroded levelling link, so changed both. Still no rattles so it’s a keeper.
Sorry to hear about that, never good when a car is in for surgery!
Collecting Turbo S tomorrow, delayed by a two days was supposed to be Monday! Hoping no too many issues :D
Enjoy it, you will love it!
That BMW is hideous :-)
I like them! (I must be weird! 😆)
Let’s not forget about the high voltage battery recall on the horizon!
Yep, still not UK news yet
I bet you are so happy you did not speck a new GT Taycan
I did. Non Weissach version. Loads of extras. Ive had it for a few months now and no issues whatsoever apart form neck ache from the outrageous acceleration.
If I had a lot more cash than I do, I would've definitely added one to the collection!
Yep, I’ve owned a Taycan for a year and it been in & out of the garage multiple times. Luckily it’s still under warranty. I’ve had issues with the rear door not closing, the electric folding exterior side mirror making a clonk sound every time it closes-which is every time I lock the vehicle, the paint on one of the alloy wheels pealing off, and some other minor issues. It’s a fantastic car but plagued with niggles.
Excellent analysis. Painful to see such a great brand struggling, but Porsche has to up their game to compete again with the EV industry (mostly China). Any updates about the failure analysis on your Taycan? If you keep driving the iX for prolonged time, you might not want to give it back anymore... ;-)
Thanks for the comment! I'm sure they'll get there, just need to do it quickly! Competition will be fierce! Updates on the Taycan in a week or so 👍🏻
I’ve had a Tesla model 3 performance for five years. Decided to jump ship for a Macan Turbo which was ordered in June of this year. I’m due to collect it next month, and having read forum posts, watched videos (like this one), and seeing 40 for sale on auto trader already! I’m genuinely worried the car will be a riddled with issues, load of hassle, and rubbish etc
Porsche gave me a 2024 curtsy cayenne s last Friday with less than 300 miles on the clock. I had it for a day. Within that day 5 fault warning light illuminated on the dash. Not a good start to that vehicles life and definitely not a good impression left on me. Didn’t mean to scare you, your Meccan could be bulletproof; if not you’ll be covered under warranty for three years anyway, so that’s slight peace of mind.
Macan’s on autotrader are predominantly dealers cars for sale, also registered to dealers, hens many there.
@@piotrn6780 Jeeze - that's alot of dealers cars... Seems the turbo's aren't selling - same 10 have been listed for almost a month already.
I’ve got my Macan 4 ev a couple of weeks ago. So far… it is a great car! No,problems at all
I would just enjoy it, hopefully it'll be kind to you! 🤞🏻
What do you mean by collaboration with Google Volkswagen group has already collaborated with rivian as a joint venture
Yes, not long after I'd put this one together. There's two things. There's the interface software, and the intention is to go Google based, and then the driving systems software which is what (I think) this partnership is all about.
Hi. Porsche don't have any other choice than to make EVs! After the Cariad fail in the Taycan they descided to create a own software engineer center they finished in October 2023! There they tested different software systems and decided to use Google #Automotive! The first car on this platform is the E Macan! And yessss, they used the same UI which is not really intuitive or smooth to the customer! But they have to change it for the next cars... Maybe the 718 is the one. Let's wait a bit... Hope your Taycan is coming back soon, can't believe that it's totally down.... 🤷🏼♂️ Have a nice day! 👍 👍 👍 ❤
And think about that the E Macan only have 3 control devices instead of 178 before!
Thanks as always Joe, it will be interesting to see what they have for the new boxster. I hope they're able to get something which really changes things up for that! Take care! 👍🏻
What model year is your Taycan? How long have you had it? How many miles did it have?
2022, since new, not far over 10k
I'm a long term Tesla Model S driver which is now 9 years old. I've been on the fence for about a year thinking about a 2nd hand Taycan but just can't bring myself to risk it given the amount of issues I keep reading about on the forums and FB groups - despite the high depreciation making 2nd hand prices quite attractive. An out-of-warranty Taycan just feels too scary a jump..the labour rates alone are quite frightening. You can say what you want but my 2015 Model S has been brilliant and whenever I've needed Tesla, they've been good and reasonably priced...even out of warranty. It's a shame they don't make the Model S in RHD anymore...
You’d miss the tech in the Tesla as well. Porsche’s apps, PCM, etc are so far behind.
I would never run one out of warranty!
How many issues have you had with your Tesla ? I was about to buy a used Taycan but walked away when I saw values in free fall and the number of cars failing. Tesla model S battery much easier to repair compared to Taycan pouch cells.
That sucks! At least they gave you a loaner. But that’s sad Taycan is so unreliable. I’m crossing fingers to extend my warranty…
Yes, definitely keep a warranty!
7:30 is that a non-ironic pacific?
If you listen very carefully, I say "Atlantic".
I did purchase my MP4-12C from Thorney Motorsport. A very early car, 2011 and VIN00065. Purchased with just over 38k miles, & now just under 50k miles in 20mths 👍🏻 For me I love the appearance of a 12C, but even better is the driving experience 👌 As you state, buy the right car; history, ownership, service and vendor. I’ve had an air con re-gas, and an air bag sensor. I’ve obviously purchased my car to drive it. The driving experience; feel, feedback, performance (and attention) is worth every penny of depreciation (due to mileage) IMHO. Note. I’ve also taken the plastic covers of my new sofa 😂 You’re welcome to test drive, looks and drives like new 👌
Fantastic! You bought it from the right place too! Hope it gives you many happy miles. Might take you up on that offer, be good to feature it! 👍🏻
@@TABonTVno problem. Let me know. I’m based in North East Essex.
Tie-Con :P
I was considering a used Taycan before I saw this video, Thanks for sharing.
Maybe wait for a used facelift to come down in price...
I have a burago red Porsche 959 Turbo cod.0163 . Never out of the box. How expensive is it now
That's really unfortunate. I'm 3 months into Taycan Turbo GT ownership and that seems stable. At the moment anyway. Good luck
Rocket ship. In yours you've got new battery tech and a silicon carbide flux capacitor inverter good for 1.21GW. You should be good.
@@TABonTV Thanks. Yes it's warp speed quick but sadly no flux capacitor 1.21GW inverter from Back to the Future!
Taycans appear to be particularly unreliable. I think you should be looking for a buyback from Porsche - under “lemon” law. Incidentally we have two EVs - a BMW iX40 & a Tesla Model 3 Performance. Both have covered around 50,000km and both have been faultless.
so impressive compared to an internal combustion???? Most, if not all Porsches have been 2yr service interval for years!
Yes, but I've said before. I'm never leaving oil in any combustion car for 2 years, no matter what they say.
