Has your vehicle had heater failure with the prior owner? I’m considering but keep reading about these units failing around 30k km, unacceptable for a daily in the winter
I completely agree with everything you said. Thank you. It's not just a 911 gateway car, though. I have 5 doors, 4 1/2 seats, roof rails, and a cycle carrier. It's my EV, soft roader, sports car, family car. I love driving it, and I am going to stop typing and take it out now, just for fun.
James, it's a great car....it's not a sports car. Drive a mx5, lotus Elise etc...driving a light car is fun and sporty. The Porsche is great but hugely heavy and ultimately uncommunicative. my son just bought his first car..a 2011 Mégane Renault sport 2.0 turbo. It's a sportier and more fun drive than my Audi e Tron GT.
@@paulhayes2189 I honestly doubt that you have an e-tron GT or have ever driven one. A 2011 Renault Megane is not more fun to drive. EVs have their own characteristics in driving emotion, for sure, but there are many objective points where they have an advantage. Take traction control (see e-tron GT vs indoor ski), handling in curves (the center of gravity sits low and, supported by the instant torque, this just gives an unmatched and totally different experience), the boost, etc. I see how one can prefer ICEs with fewer electronics, but EVs have definitely found their place. Many people, including me, love driving them for the sporty driving experience.
@@p4skal0 I exchanged a BMW 640d for my Audi, and really the main motivation was zero BIK (Ireland). The 640d wasn't a sports car but it's more engaging than my present car. It had gears a bellowing induction. Yes the audi is super smooth, point and squirt quiet etc but it's lazy really...and reflects me aging. I don't drive a sports car now, neither do you, despite the power, badge. You know very well, the lad with the 15 year old Boxster S next to you (or me) at the lights is the only one with a sports car. Sorry to burst your ego...
@@paulhayes2189 you are a one in a million EV-owner. I haven't driven the e-tron GT but if it's anything like a Taycan, it's better than all 27 cars I have owned in my life bar maybe the E92 M3. I have had 14 BMW:s and apart from the E92 none comes close to the Taycan in driving experience. 640d ?? You must be joking. I would somehow understand if you said 640i as the 6-cyl is a great engine but a diesel? Not in a million years.
Has your vehicle had heater failure with the prior owner? I’m considering but keep reading about these units failing around 30k km, unacceptable for a daily in the winter
Just bought a turismo turbo for less than half its list price. It's a two year old 8000 mile car with two years full warranty and discounted charging card The performance is insane and the ride sublime.
While VAT might not be listed on a second hand privately sold car, to say it’s just immediately excluded when buying a second hand car is not really correct. VAT is wrapped up in the depreciation costs over a few years.
My point was that VAT makes a large amount of prices up, I understand it’s not listed but still included. What I was getting at is if you paid £100k for a car and kept it for a week then listed it for sale you wouldn’t get anywhere close what you paid for it
@@TomShorrock The vat on a£100k car is £16670 not £20000. also the £20k in options has £3333 of vat in it. So you're not down to £60k , you're down to £66666.
I’ve been fortunate to live with 5 Cayennes and a hybrid Panamera. I had a loan Taycan for a week. You’re right, awesome acceleration but that’s about it. Couldn’t wait to get back in my V8 Cayenne.
@@TomShorrocksure, but that’s got absolutely nothing to do with the VAT. If that were the case, it would apply to any VAT-able product. What would happen to an item (like a fancy watch) that appreciates in value? Is that because of VAT? 😂
What a honest video for once. No click bait crap which can’t be said for the Mac master. I’ve stopped looking at his channel because of it. I’m with you on the Porsche I drive a Kia EV6 GT Line S and thought about the possibility of buying a used taycan but the two things that made me not buy one were the service / maintenance and insurance. But yes it’s a fantastic car a friend who lives just down the road from me has the turbo s modal. It was raved by the motoring press when launched and it’s still the same car. Your right on options some can loose you money and others just make the car that bit more desirable for the used buyer. But you the new owner take the hit. Once again a great video thanks.
Agree. I’ve just bought the Turbo 😃 Have to say, it’s one hell of a car and giving me Lambo performance for a lot less running costs. Yes I’ve had other big engine ICE cars such as M4 and Jag V8’s which were a nice sound but I’m loving how these drive. I loved my i8 for 5 years and this was about the only worthy replacement. It was a similar initial price tag of 115k and also depreciated steeply but steadied off like the Taycan will do!! Just do it is my advice and move with the times 👍
These cars are an evolutionary dead end. There is no way of knowing whether the batteries have been abused. People who plug ev's never mention how the additional weight and torque destroy the tyres, which are more expensive than standard. They are a beautiful car to look at. Give me one with a proper engine in it.
I live in the middle east, i bought one of these from the showroom, manager driven for 9000km, and sold to me for cost price. They took a $25k haircut on it from the retail price. I think it looks nice , drives well, and I'm obviously saving money on the petrol. I don't think it's a gateway car, personally. It's a Porsche for people that want an EV. Petrol prices in the UK are astronomical. The petrol bill will run up to 5 figures over 2 years.
Im in the US, so some of the details differ (jealous of you guys who are able to lease Taycans through salary sacrifice schemes). Here in the US, unless you work for Porsche, a taycan will cost a minimum of about $1500 for a lease on a base model. And that’s after various incentives. But like you guys there’s lots of snobbery and misinformation being spread by people who should know better. Atleast here, taycans seem to follow a similar depreciation curve as any German luxury sedan. Not sure why people get so bent out of shape about that. And I’d be more confident owning an older taycan than a panamera, macan or cayenne because EV drivetrains are inherently simpler and there’s an 8 year warranty on the battery
@@TomShorrockI've read in forums that quite a few of the great boxes break in those earlier taycans actually.. And that's a huge problem when anyone at all hears that cuz it's a problem where there doesn't need to be one.
@@TomShorrock I wish that were the case, but it has a 2-speed transmission and is a potential point of failure. I think it's a clever design, but I can't imagine Porsche is going to be merciful, cost wise, if that thing has an issue.
Sorry, but this is unique to Taycan. When it comes to Porsche the 911 holds, maintains or it's value grows more often than losing value. I bought a 2015 991.1 GTS and sold it after a few years for 20K more than I paid, my Taycan cost 150K and is worth , maybe 70K, unacceptable.. The range has also dropped substantally. Not a great value...
It’s not unique to Taycan, it’s due to the government incentives that accelerates the depreciation, ask yourself if the government offered a salary sacrifice scheme or 2% BIK on a 911, you would find the 911’s depreciate exactly the same
@@TomShorrock I think it has more to do with the fact that everyone knows in the future the ranges will be better. Who wants to buy a 200-250 miles range when we will have 400-500 at some point? Also i personally go on trips 4 times a year around 500 miles. I know from my PHEV, that depending on how you drive the EV "range" is like 50-75% of that 250 miles...The benefit of my X50e is, i have another 450 miles of range if need be from the ICE.
I don’t want to have a motorway coffee every two hours, I don’t want to lose tens of thousands on a car every year, I don’t want to take out a loan for 35k on a used car and I don’t want an EV. The Taycan is not a gateway into Porsche, it is something that costs you a 996 generation 911 every six months.
kind of lost my attention when you claimed the car loses £20k immediately because of VAT. Apart from the maths being incorrect (£16,667) and that most cars do depreciate when you drive them off the forecourt it's nothing to do with VAT. It's no more true with cars than it is with any other purchase.
I love how people are crying about 400 km range, while 99% of them drive such distances without stopping maybe twice a year. And ignoring superfast chargers that need 30 mins to charge it full.
Macmasters content sucks. He takes 30 minutes to express 3 minutes of actual content. He acts like his diamond slippers are too tight and his £50 notes don't fit in his wallet.
I drove a Taycan GTS and Audi E Tron GT and loved both of them but I actually prefer the styling on the Audi. I wound up buying a one owner ‘23 GT with 10k miles on it for $57k plus $1,500 for shipping. I’ve had it a month now and am 100% happy with it. I’m about to do the Redshift Performance ECU upgrade. FWIW, I also own a ‘15 Tesla Model S 85D with 150k miles on it.
Finally.....a superb video made by someone who clearly understands how the car market works as well as the good & expanding Electric charging infustracture! I don't own any Porsche but am a huge fan of the EV market and extremely surprised about the negativity towards EV cars. Thank you for taking the time and making a very balanced video. 🙌
I'm not sure he does understand the car market. For instance, he didn't mention the oversupply of EVs, and the record number of Pre-registrations to meet government targets and avoid fines. This is having the biggest affect on used EV values. EG: There are currently 30 pages of pre-registered Volvo EX30 EVs on Autotrader for around £35k. Not sure what list price is, but I'd guess £50k ish. So if you bought at full RRP, straight away your shiny new EV has been devalued by £15k. Come trade in, to make a 1, 2, or 3 year old EV look attractive against the pre-registered cars, the price has to be considerably lower than £35k. So your trade in price is on the floor. Talking as someone who worked in vehicle sales, it's this that is having the greatest affect on EV depreciation. Lose the mandates, stop the fines, and sell EVs on features & merits to people they are suitable for, and the market would right itself. Once again, problems are being created by government stupidity.
Completely agree! I encourage everyone to consider Taycan. I have CT 4S leased, I’ve driven 40kkm and this is fantastic daily, and good enough family car. In 2 years time I will give it back to the dealer (it will be 4 years old). Than one of the option for me is buying 2years old Taycan.
I drive a high-performance petrol already 14 years old, still spot on, with good servicing. I don't think an electric would last that long. I can't prove it yet, by the way.
Offcourse you are because you need to convince yourself that you didn't buy the cat i the bag. It's kinda mental self protection to live in denial. Denial that you have thrown 10th of thousands of pounds on a car that you're now stuck with.
They used to be the kind of figures you mention on salary sacrifice, but certainly from the company we use, they are double that, plus options. I'm a massive petrol head, but have wanted a Taycan since I saw the first pics. Not a Newby to EV's, had one, wife has one. I DO need the range because of the job I do, therefore I require the new gen taycan. Can't wait for my test drive this week. Also with used porsche's, getting the spec you want .... not easy
I was looking for an EV for my family and by chance stumbled up on a Porsche Taycan. I was looking at an BMW i5 as an alternative which costs me the same amount of money but if we face it. If you got the chance to buy a 2 year old Porsche for the same amount of money you gotta be an idiot not to do so. The estimation that batteries depreciate over time is obviously true but so are ICEs. A used petrol engine doesn't deliver the same power as a new one anymore and there's way more parts that can fail. It's more the fear of change that keeps people from buying EVs and than there's the usual shit talking without ever understanding the topic. In the end it's similar to the stock market. Buy low, sell high. When everybody is in fear it's the best time to do so and the time for EVs is now.
Mate your comment scares me, exactly in the same situation! I was about to take a 2023 bmw but eventually ended up buying 2022 taycan cs… , drives perfectly fine for me🙌🏻😅
@@MrMishaBelovcongrats mate. Been using mine for 2 months now and still get goosebumps seeing it. 100% worth every penny from exterior to driving. Never thought I would drive a Porsche but I do like it 😅
I drive a 2020 Audi RS4 & have been watching videos of both sides of argument. Around Dec 2023 I stopped at a service station in Dundee on way to my home town Aberdeen. I noticed a fellow Audi RS car owner. The gent had an Audi RS e-tron at the charger. I visited the service station shop & loo. Some 10-15 mins later the guy was still at the charger. I was keen to hear his own experience first hand. This is what he said - He previously owned a RS4 like mine however now for around a year owned this Audi e-tron RS. He averages around 800 miles a week. So has had considerable experience. He like me lived in north east Scotland & drives all over Scotland. He was currently heading back from the central belt & had stopped to charge his car. His car was wonderful to drive but there were issues. EG in winter the range is less than 200 miles. He had just spent 15mins on the phone to the charge network company who apparently did have his credit card details but yet he needed to load credit. This type of issue was not uncommon. He reported that in the last year of ownership he had slept 5 times in the car. Recently when stoping to recharge he had to go to 4 chargers before one worked. Then the charge was so slow it took over two hours. Yet again he slept in his car. From what I heard he wouldn’t buy one again as they simply as the car range & in particular the infrastructure in Scotland just isn’t there. More electric cars are appearing on the roads & there’s now less even less chance of getting a charger. Sure no’s of chargers are increasing but the increase of EV’s is much more. If you live in Scotland. Have charging facilities at home & don’t do long journeys. An EV might work for you but for him they simply don’t work. This is also where I have reached in my thinking. Maybe in the future if there’s a much better network of fast chargers + a genuine 300 mile range (not charge at 70 of 80 % of this) I’d make the switch however for now an EV for me is simply not a viable alternative.
This rep should have bought a Tesla and not an Audi - problem solved. And the car would have been ten grand + cheaper. Please don't allude to the incorrect assertion that "all EVs are the same" because the etron was a particular turd you could not even roll in glitter.
Thanks for your thoughts. Like you I’ve come to understand that Tesla’s have the edge on range. Can I ask what your thoughts are on the charging network, in particular Scotland? From what I gather unless you can charge at home. Trying to get around much of Scotland & in particular rural Scotland one is going to struggle. Even the gent I met described how at times it took a few goes to find a working charger. Maybe in time the network will be there however if I want to drive from NE Scotland to a west coast Island. I’m thinking I’m may well struggle to find chargers on route or at my destination. Let alone ones which are fast chargers?
@@SpiderMacKenzie We recently took a trip round the Scottish Borders, Edinburgh way and Berwick on Tweed. Up from Milton Keynes and back via the A1. There are chargers all over the place on the A1 and more going in. As for Scotland, we did not have any problems. We mostly used Tesla super chargers, which ALWAYS work, you don't need a special card or anything and some are open to non Tesla, but we also used EV power near the hotel [7 brand new 150kw stalls] and a couple of 50kw "Electrify Scotland" chargers we found in small car parks like in wonderful Melrose town. We did no come across anything that did not work. Amazing dead straight up and down old Roman Roads. We also drove through the Northumberland National Park via the A68. There were just no problems at all with charging. The car is easily capable of 300+ miles though at non motorway speeds. We just charged when we could - the Tesla car mapping has all chargers that are not "locked in" with special cards, but we invariably stopped because we had to, not the car. Maybe I have been lucky but also did a 1,000 mile round trip to the North West of Ireland and back - charging just was not a problem. Even overnight on a 13 amp socket at my Uncle's house gave 100+ miles. It is a differing mindset. I only ever had one issue public charging and that was a 50kw charger we found near the Holyhead Ferry Terminal - it started charging ok but stopped 10 mins later. We called the helpline and they rebooted it remotely and it was then fine. For some reason it would only give me instructions in Welsh but figured it out. I discovered later there were even (free) chargers I could have used on the Stena line Ferry. Finally, I strongly recommend a site like abetterrouteplanner or zapmap if your car does not have something suitable like the Tesla mapping. If you have to use a car for work - swallow your pride and get a Tesla, they are longer range, best charging, best value and super reliable. Local Pizza shops round here use Model 3 to deliver Pizzas and that is purely because they are the cheapest delivery vans you can get. I also know the popular MG5 Estate is well liked by people who have to drive for a living. There are also ODB2 dongles you can get that work with charger mapping [example TRONITY] using your phone or apple / android car link that will show your car range in real time and organise your route and charging stops automatically (Teslas do this anyway and probably other cars too). you tube video of someone going from UK to the boot of Italy in an e208 illustrating the real time charge data / mapping : ruclips.net/video/bUEv8PWj-3s/видео.html
Borrowed a 4s cross turismo last night. If I can get one for 600ish a month I’m having one. The most fun I’ve had in a car for a long time. With 7.5pence a kw it will have 250 mile range every morning. I need about 50. Happy days
This video doesn’t mention the Taycan has some reliability issues and can throw huge bills. Yes the battery has an extended warranty but there are many other expensive components. I’ve been looking at getting one but not without a Porsche warranty.
Value added tax makes complete sense. A business makes money as it adds value to something that it sells. A car dealer's value is sourcing, selling you the car and guarantees that it will work for 3 years (used car dealers of course add extra value by fixing shit before they sell it to you). The business doesn't have to pass the cost onto you, it could just pay the bill but its business so as usual the working people pay the tax.
Heard about this yesterday and started searching prices today. Now all I need to know is what problems people have had with them. Looking to get one next few months. Not sure which model and what options I should insist on having. My Benz has multi beam led/matrix led that’s a must. And some self driving would be great and adaptive cruise
most used taycans had recalls and got there stuff fixed by porsche on there cost. mine also and its secondhand 4 years old., other than a software update and replacement of an heat element as free recall , no issues nor maintenance costs
You need to do more miles on the moors rather than Mosley / Ashton etc. Agree re Taycan 2nd hand. Previous owner of mine lost £50k deprecation. I bought it through my co, came with a Porsche warranty until end 2026. It’s still depreciating but lower corp tax and putting other costs through the co offsets most of this. For now at least. It’s great to drive but terrible to park - bigger than a VW camper van!
Well done, finally a reasonable video explaining how this actually works, how good these cars are and one that takes the BS and throws it in the bin. I'll continue enjoying my Taycan for a few years yet 😁
What Car surveys answer the question, More than half (58%) of the Taycans in our survey went wrong, with a range of issues including air-con, drive battery/charging, bodywork and various electrical issues. Getting cars fixed was slow, too; 56% were off the road for more than seven days, but at least Porsche covered the cost of 97% of repair work. We have a Tesla model X paid £100k 58k miles value £40k now so they loose a lot less in value no idea why, had no end of issues with it been to the garage 3 times per year, 1 repair was no brakes, other issues being no dashboard displays when driving down the road. only charges up to 93% now! looks like Porsche have addressed the issues they have, with the new 2025 cars.
i cant see why people are worried about depreciation, when it's a consumer sports ev. It's not a collector's car or a high end exotic, majority of people who purchases cars never or intended to gain from a trade in.
This guy doesn’t understand how VAT works. And the nonsense about how easy it is to do long journeys in an EV is pure fairytale. If you’re a private buyer choosing a new car, don’t even consider an EV unless you want to bonfire cash. If you’re a company car user or a salary sacrifice buyer, you’re probably going to go EV because it’s tax efficient (and hopefully your other half has an ICE vehicle for winter use/long runs). The only time an EV makes a half decent proposition for a private buyer is when it’s halved in value after less than 2 years. And yes, they are disposable… if you drop £40k on a 2 or 3 year old ICE car, nothing can fail after 5 or 6 years that will cost more than its value to repair. If the battery pack in an EV fails or its range starts dropping to unusable levels (eg less than 200 miles in the winter), you’re stuck scrapping it, or dropping massive money on a new battery 🤷♂️
Ok I may have got the VAT wrong, but ask yourself a question. Would you be righting this comment if I didn’t? My whole video is about explaining why they lose money and the main reason in the government incentives
@TomShorrock nope. I wanted to see why you'd somehow come to the conclusion that buying a used Taycan was a good idea. Insuring a Taycan is one of the dumbest financial decisions you can make. And the depreciation even secondhand makes investing in Blockbuster stock look like a smart choice. I've run PCPs for my cars and my wife's cars for several years. Sticking with new, high end BMWs and Mercedes I've kept the monthlies low and made a substantial profit on each vehicle because of the equity that builds up. The exact opposite of what will happen if you buy a Taycan used or otherwise.
Great video and couldn’t agree more! Bought a used taycan turbo S and it is immense, it feels every bit a £100K+ car, for half that price. Another point with range and efficiency - it costs me £7 to charge my “750bhp” to a range of 200+miles. How far would £7 petrol get you in an equivalent 750bhp ICE car?
Listen, Mr clever when car dealer sells a second hand car, i.e. six months old they never ever take the 20% VAT off the price . How do you want to that question?
Great video. I think you have hit some key points here and I am so glad someone is calling out Mr. Taycan hater for what he is -click bait and hot air. The only challenge I have here is the value. For 50K you can get a 3 year old Taycan with say 40K mileage however for the same money you can get a much newer car with less mileage and still under warranty. I agree the Taycan prices does allow people who could never previously afford a Porsche however buying one and running one (tyre's service (yes they still make you pay for service and it is still reassuringly Porsche expensive) is 2 different stories
Ive been seriously considering 😅getting a used one, half price and a few years old seems a great deal. But then its still a lot of money and repairs would be costly so can't brijg myself to do it.
Friends got one, but spends a lot of time driving different Porsches, (not a bad thing!)while his new one is being repaired and upgraded. Reckons it’s being replaced bit by bit. Warranties are great, until they decide it’s not a warranty item… then you are into a wold of expensive pain.
For me if you can home charge you can do so on a night tariff at 7.5p it's worth it. Imagine a £75k ipace for £30k with 8k miles 18 months dealer warranty and 6.5 years battery warranty.... It's not that scary to choose this a d thats a premium EV
I totally agree! My biggest fear however is when the energy companies start to ramp the price up it will become more expensive than diesel & petrol. Speaking of which motorway services are nearing £2.00 per litre again …
@@TomShorrock that's when you have to go for home solar to keep a lid on these companies! So essentially for cost effective EV ownership likely you need to be a wealthy person with off street parking and solar and the economics of it will be propped up by the average car owner who may have to use public charging or grid electricity.
I know what you did there. You are giving SOME explanations avoiding THE main reason. The main reason is you can just buy a Tesla new instead. The depreciation is because it was initially overpriced compared to Tesla. So this is just a price equilibrium. Taycan are not a great deals, it’s just a better price that represents the actual value.
I’m subscribed to you right now. We need honest people like you around. I’m an EV owner for nearly two years and I’ve not looked back, Best decision! New 400+ mile range Taycan will most likely be next car
No, I don’t buy new because of snobbery. I buy new Porsches for two reasons: (1) you don’t know what kinds of abuse the previous owners did to the car, or what all the problems might be with the car (why the previous owners got rid of it); and (2) I can never find the option specs on a used car or a dealership lot car that I would spec myself (which is generally minimal, including smallest wheels/tires possible, all-metal roof when possible, no power charge-port door, standard music system, etc.), and my cars must have ACC (I’m amazed at how many used Taycans in the USA have no ACC). “Premium packages” are absurd, frankly; I don’t need/want most options in such Porsche packages, and it’s just a way to make Porsche & their dealerships more rich… I buy my Porsches new via special order, and I typically keep options to $5k or less
The biggest issue with used cars costing £100k odd is warantee, Consumables / accidents asside the whole car should be good for 10 to 15 years so why not give the car a warantee for its whole lifespan when prices are so high and have set prices for services at different mileages that are easy to see when purchasing? Unless of course you want to make money on the servicing and or don't have confidence in the car that you built and charged so much for?😂 I buy used because i cannot do the salary sacrifice thing, not bothered about depreciation because keep them till they die, knowing a monthly cost is atractive but costly, But having car that could cost a small fortune in service / repairs at any moment is a big no no.
I don't think people are snobs, I think the average person looking for a family car doesn't want 600hp as the insurance is insane. Then if you are looking for a performance car you want one that makes a noise! Without the tax incentive for businesses they wouldn't have sold have as many Taycans.
tbf to the macmaster his review of the Taycan second gen is quite favourable. So I think buy a 1st gen, no, but 2nd gen yes. Where does the 5% battery depletion come from, do you have a source for this?
Good video, but... the VAT is not 20,000, it is 16,600. And the leasing companies calculate the value of options with 50% of new value, unless it is a really unique 1-of-1 option. Best regards from a Taycan 4S owner.
Lot of comments about range, 200 miles will always be 200 miles even if newer cars can do 400 miles. If its enough its enough , thats not going to change. For anyone who can drive 200 miles in one sitting I take my hat off to you.., realistically, in the UK, 200 miles takes 5 hours ..fact
Matt master bought for 120k wanted to change Porsche offered him 33k and refused to buy it. There are stockpiles of the Porsche evs they don’t sell. U can spin what u like
There are many cars that has depreciated more than the Tayca. I don't know the british marked, but I know the norwegian market. Can mention a few examples. 1. The holy trinitiy of crazy depreciation: Mercedes S-class, BMW 7-series and Audi A8. I found examples of those cars, 21 models that have lost as much as the full price of a new Taycan! In 3 years! Then you have the Panamera. Yes, the Panamera has lost more than the Taycan, on average.
Ignorance is your Main Enemy; The reason Manufacturers are moving away from Electric is because their main income is not on Selling cars is Actually on Servicing and Selling Parts. And people always follow the cattle, teach your self about the Car Industry. PD- Electric is only the future to those who understand the benefit.
Very interesting video. I am from Germany and right now in Sweden. Incredible how many EVs here driving around. I am in the market for a 911 but maybe waiting for the end of my electric BMW lease and go for a taycan. Thanks!
So studies suggest over 100,000 miles the average modern EV is going to see a 15/20% depreciation in range. Meaning this car at worst will still do 200 miles on a full charge, after 100,000 miles. How many of you doing over 200 miles every day? EV are just fine for the vast majority of ppl, especially those with a driveway. Don’t get me wrong, if you live in a flat and park on the street I can appreciate why they may not make sense. But it doesn’t mean they’re useless, it just means they don’t suit your lifestyle.
Nice video but far too much generalisation here in my opinion on the acceleration they (Taycans) have as in 5.34 of your clip. They are not "all" fast as you say, 5.1-5.4 0-60 for p/pp/4. Nothing special in that sense compared to some "sensibly priced" ICE models.
GREAT VIDEO! YOU are great! Counldnt agree more! I ve been looking for buying a used Gran turismo 4s due to all the arguments you mentioned here, thats how I found your video and page! Now a new follower! :) Good luck with new videos! /Oscar , Sweden
Your main points apply to all vehicles. (VAT and Optional extras) What you need to have done is compare the depreciation against other comparable combustion cars, that would be a better way to make the point - and I believe you can make good points in that regard, the Panamera is combustion Porsche which is similar to the Taycan, and those depreciate pretty heavily too... as do most luxury saloons in that segment. You are dead right about the incentives for new ones though - Shame its damaging the credibility of EVs in the minds of the public, if we let the free market do its job that would be much better for the second hand values. You also might want to have declared that Porsche didn't pay you to make this video. 🙂
@@TomShorrock That tells you everything you need to know. If the dealers won't touch their own used cars with a barge pole, you know something's seriously amiss.
I’m seriously tempted by one of these. I think the scaremongering still has some way to go though so maybe they will drop a bit more. I’m retiring soon so it will see me out I’m sure
I bought a Etron GT and it is a totally brilliant thing people actually walk up and tell you how stunning it is. Easily better looking than the Taycan in my view a better interior. I waited until the dealership were on the point of not making theire quota got more than 15k off the new car and included the Ohme Pro home charger and installation as well as the Audi charging discount card similar to the Porsche one and a few extras on the car thrown in. I changed from a stunning 50 tdi A7 vorsprung and as much as we loved that car, the Etron GT is the better drive. I can charge on the octopus smart tariff from 20 to 80% for between 3 to 4 quid. I have no road tax to pay where as my A7 was £580 and I pay £700 on a 3 year PCP. I am intending to change the car at 2 years. Oh and I get free servicing! So Its far from a disaster and that acceleration and sound pack never ever gets old.
not even close to the Taycan in the looks departmenr and all Audi interiors are horrible IMO. Both cars suffer horrendous depreciation but I would choose a used Taycan over the Etron all day long.
@TomShorrock Yes, Tom, I fully understand and appreciate what you've set out, but for me, the depreciation is more or less offset by the incentives and im saving a a signifcant amount in running costs. Your Informative appraisal is appreciated nonetheless.
@ianmichael8117 Each to his own, I guess, and I did say "in my view" but also my exoerience of having driven both. I spent time with the equivalent Taycan from the dealer and also the two variants of Etron GT. I didn't consider the RS as significantly superior to the GT, so I opted for the Etron GT over the RS and Taycan based on driving over a couple of weekends and family reactions to both cars both went in favour of the Etron GT. I prefer their approach to the dash and driving at night, the headlights were significantly better than Taycan, as were the asthetics again in mine and the fam's opinion. At least I got to drive 3 versons of the cars before choosing, and I don't regret anything. I'm a former ysed 911 owner, and my daughter currently runs a Macan GTS, so we get Porsche but on this occasion the Audi won us over in its Daytona pearl paint and Black styling pack it is so sculpted, it picks up the light from all angles, particularly the rear and rear quarter. Both are great cars, though, and very little to choose between them.
You only touch on the reason, the demand isn't there because the demand for fast saloons that are wider than parking bays isn't there, the value is comparatively low second hand but that's because the car manufacturers have been greedy n done a big grab for prices to try n recoup all their money back from rushing out poor half baked EVs, where as if that was a "golf" it would be 20+ different cars but they won't do that because they want pay back on their engines.
@@derLenus how what? I get 480 km in the summer and 320 in the winter. I almost never charge my car over 85% SOC, so I guess the battery is in good shape. In the Alps I have gotten 530km a few times. Starting and finishing in same elevation. The Taycan gen1 WLTP is way underrated. You can already now find articles about comparison to facelift. The difference is WAY smaller than the WLTP.
@@peterhammer6915 yes how Once I drove rly calm with my Turbo (about 80-max 130 km/h low number of overtakings and so on) and did a range of 400 km with like 5 % SoC left) so maybe with draving a straight line with 80 km/h I could do 450 km but thats not realistisch for a real drive...
@@derLenus I dont drive many motorways at home in Finland, mostly smaller roads. If you want to get over 450km, you have to drive max 100 km/h, 130 km/h is way too fast. My normal roadtrip from Stockholm to Garmisch with motorways and autobahn I get about 350 - 400 km but I drive way faster, medium speed around 100 to 120 km/h. I dont know how Porsche gave the WLTP to the pre-facelift but it's way closer to the facelift. Probably difference is under 100 km of range.
Great video and very informative. I like an EV, however the thing that puts me off a Taycan in particular is a combination of the service costs and I have seen sub 3 year cars with £50k battery replacements :/
Thanks for watching, and thanks for the feedback, like I said Porsche offer 8year warranty on the batteries and motor, so if they fail after 3 years it shouldn’t be a chargeable repair 💪🏻
@@TomShorrock yeah I appreciate your depth of knowledge into this. It was just my experience. Regardless of car I always like to ask if it’s a car that the person would pay cash for?🤔
Personally I disagree with paying for cars cash due to depreciation etc, I think leasing is the way forward if you like to change your car every 2-3 years. However if you like to keep cars than cash is definitely the way forward
Thanks for your message, my question is 'would you pay X for car Y'. I am thinking in terms of value as a lot of cars are £50k plus now and dont seem like good value. Regarding leasing, outwith a couple of company cars years, I have always bought cash. Just the way I was brought up.
Insurance is cheaper due to all the anti collision systems it has, and the servicing is minimal, just brakes & health checks, no oil changes needed etc
The issue is the car costs on average £100k and it only does 230 miles approx on a charge (newer version more but costs more). Yes all new car lose 20% vat. The other issue is the battery will degrade with time and how you charge it. Average range summer 230 miles but winter 20 to 30% less. All electric car battery warranties state the battery has to drop below 70% capacity before it is replaced. Some manufacturers fit reconditioned batteries and NOT new ones. A 93kwh Taycan battery is £45000. In 10 years if you keep your Taycan you could spend £100k plus £45k. You also can't take the car to anyone but Porsche to fix it. Cabin heaters common recall but after 3 years / out of warranty expect over £3000 to fix. It is a brilliant car but a lemon.

Thanks James! Much appreciated

Good for you - epic car for crazy value 👍
Cheers dude! And the EV6 is another great car!
Fantastic! Enjoy!
100% agree! There no hear box to brake on an EV
TIGHT ON!!! i have a 2020 4S and even though the new 2025 models do have significant improvements, I'm not trading it.

It’s true in theory but a car won’t lose 20% after you drive off.
@@sampochin > try reselling within 100 miles & report back 😂
250 mile range is unacceptable at that price point. That's a big reason why it ain't selling.

ave journey in the UK is 29 miles
@TomShorrock I mean how many people are willing to travel 4-5 hours without resting?
I love how people are crying about 400 km range, while 99% of them drive such distances without stopping maybe twice a year. And ignoring superfast chargers that need 30 mins to charge it full.
But… imaging waking up every day with 100% charge (full tank)?

Finally.....a superb video made by someone who clearly understands how the car market works as well as the good & expanding Electric charging infustracture! I don't own any Porsche but am a huge fan of the EV market and extremely surprised about the negativity towards EV cars. Thank you for taking the time and making a very balanced video. 🙌
No problem at all! It’s very easy for people to have a sheep mentality and followed the BS that is spread about EV’s
I agree………..a balanced approach. I’ve got one. I’ve subscribed after watching this.
Glad you agree!
The new Taycan has much better range and I think that’s also a factor regarding depreciation on EVs. The newer EVs always have much better range :)
The big mistake Lee made was to buy an entry level Taycan and spec it up to £120k.
I drive a high-performance petrol already 14 years old, still spot on, with good servicing. I don't think an electric would last that long. I can't prove it yet, by the way.

It’s quite possible
Very true!

Not sure I fully agree with your battery comment. No one can gauge exactly how a battery will perform over time after numerous charges.
False, there is tons of data out there on batteries now
I drive a 2020 Audi RS4 & have been watching videos of both sides of argument.
This is what he said -
He previously owned a RS4 like mine however now for around a year owned this Audi e-tron RS.

I’m not to sure I think it varies dependant on what agreement to go for. However bare in mind there is not oil changes needed etc
Dude I want to buy one, have $60k to spend... But the range is only 200 miles? Ughhhh thats the only thing I'm hesitating on. I have
Heard about this yesterday and started searching prices today.
Great purchase
How do you find going over speed bumps? Is it possible 🤷♂️
Totally fine no issues so long as you don’t go will quick
Well done, finally a reasonable video explaining how this actually works, how good these cars are and one that takes the BS and throws it in the bin. I'll continue enjoying my Taycan for a few years yet 😁
Glad you enjoyed! And glad you agree! I suppose positivity spreads slower than negativity 🤷♂️
Thinking about making the plunge; 2022 high spec base. My son is interested in my (brilliant) BMW I3S REX…
Nice! Go for it 💪🏻
What Car surveys answer the question, More than half (58%) of the Taycans in our survey went wrong, with a range of issues including air-con, drive battery/charging, bodywork and various electrical issues.
I’m considering leasing a Taycan 4s through the company car scheme but you would have to be a lunatic to buy one new due to the depreciation.
Very true
A unique perspective for buyers in the UK with that Huge Tax credit.
i cant see why people are worried about depreciation, when it's a consumer sports ev.
@TomShorrock if you got the vat wrong why would anyone think anything else you said is correct 🤔
Listen, Mr clever when car dealer sells a second hand car, i.e.
six months old they never ever take the 20% VAT off the price
Very true! Sadly here in the UK we don’t get enough sunlight to make solar payback times shorter
The reason they depreciate so much is due to the incentives to buy new and not used
Do you think it’s worth installing a (30k) MANSORY BODY KIT on my 2021 taycan, and sell it to make profit?
Absolutely not mate
You won’t make money
Oh I see Thot they would pay premium price for a Porsche mansory . Thxs for advice 👍🏻
Excellent video. Would you choose salary sacrifice on a new car if a higher rate tax payer or buy second hand?
Probably salary sacrifice due to the incentives and no maintenance & insurance costs
How does your analysis compare to USA market for same vehicle, same specifications and ancillary costs, maintenance, and depreciation?
US is always cheaper
seeing how some base rwd saloons are already 38k, i might be game on a base xturismo at around 35k
I’m subscribed to you right now. We need honest people like you around. I’m an EV owner for nearly two years and I’ve not looked back, Best decision! New 400+ mile range Taycan will most likely be next car
Thank you! Much appreciated, I’m just a normal guy that doesn’t listen to the BS and does my own research 💪🏻
be interested to know what the real world range on the 2024's are as the current reviews are all glossing over the issue
The dirt sayer to which you refer has always maintained his Taycan is a great car. It's the cost of owning one he is not so keen on.
I agree he has, but most people will read his ridiculous titles and look no further and take it as fact
The biggest issue with used cars costing £100k odd is warantee,
Consumables / accidents asside the whole car should be good for 10 to 15 years so why not give the car a warantee for its whole lifespan when prices are so high and have set prices for services at different mileages that are easy to see when purchasing?
Unless of course you want to make money on the servicing and or don't have confidence in the car that you built and charged so much for?😂
I buy used because i cannot do the salary sacrifice thing, not bothered about depreciation because keep them till they die, knowing a monthly cost is atractive but costly,
But having car that could cost a small fortune in service / repairs at any moment is a big no no.
I don't think people are snobs, I think the average person looking for a family car doesn't want 600hp as the insurance is insane. Then if you are looking for a performance car you want one that makes a noise!
Without the tax incentive for businesses they wouldn't have sold have as many Taycans.
And that’s exactly the point in my video
tbf to the macmaster his review of the Taycan second gen is quite favourable. So I think buy a 1st gen, no, but 2nd gen yes.
Where does the 5% battery depletion come from, do you have a source for this?
This is what the manufacturers state mate
Good video, but... the VAT is not 20,000, it is 16,600. And the leasing companies calculate the value of options with 50% of new value, unless it is a really unique 1-of-1 option. Best regards from a Taycan 4S owner.
I figured I got the vat wrong, due to getting the video out quick, however, it’s still a good car
@@TomShorrock agree!
U can spin what u like
Been thinking about a Taycan Turrissmo certainly after watching your video I feel I should rethink it and go test drive one! Great review 👏👌
Ignorance is your Main Enemy;
The reason Manufacturers are moving away from Electric is because their main income is not on Selling cars is Actually on Servicing and Selling Parts.
And people always follow the cattle, teach your self about the Car Industry.
PD- Electric is only the future to those who understand the benefit.
best way to buy them? PCP on a used 40k taycan? Thats the worry on the GFV
It depends what works for you, PCP if you don’t plan on keeping it, HP if you want to own it
Love the video. Thanks for bringing some facts and reality to the discussion. What about a Merc EQS? What’s your thoughts there?
Phenomenal car that blows me away every time I drive mine. Would not be without it now.... Agree with your opinions entirely.
Bought my used 4S CT recently and it's amazing 🎉
Nice video, man ! I was wondering how can a modern Porsche, with the EV technology can be so hated and your video explained good facts. Sub
Great video, someone talking sense at last. I'm not sure why people think they're cool or informed when they dump on EV's.
Totally agree! And thanks for dropping a comment 💪🏻
Porsche don’t pay anyone to review their cars, nor does any car manufacturer, it’s common knowledge
@@TomShorrock I was being tongue in cheek.
@@adogmcdizzle fair play
The closest charger near me is 30 miles away so I'm paying £70 for 190 miles basically. Thats why they are 40k already.
brilliant car but the dealer won't take them back in part x
I’ve heard about this
@@TomShorrock That tells you everything you need to know.
Great car and deal dude!
All EVs suffer horrendous depreciation, and it’s the incentives to buy them that cause it, I did mention all this in the video…
Thing is, new taycans have close to double the range...
not even close. My 2021 4S gives me 480km in Finland in the summer.
@@peterhammer6915 how
@@derLenus how what? I get 480 km in the summer and 320 in the winter. I almost never charge my car over 85% SOC, so I guess the battery is in good shape. In the Alps I have gotten 530km a few times. Starting and finishing in same elevation.
The Taycan gen1 WLTP is way underrated. You can already now find articles about comparison to facelift. The difference is WAY smaller than the WLTP.
@@peterhammer6915 yes how
Once I drove rly calm with my Turbo (about 80-max 130 km/h low number of overtakings and so on) and did a range of 400 km with like 5 % SoC left) so maybe with draving a straight line with 80 km/h I could do 450 km but thats not realistisch for a real drive...
Great video mate !❤
Thankyoy
