I did a 5200 mile 24 day road trip in a Taycan 4S. Had some charging hiccups but never stuck. Packed 5 man tent and gear for wife and I. Fit 3 people and gear for 4 days of journey. The Cross Tourismo would have been much easier, but I agree that the sedan looks a bit better to me as well.
Bravo on mentioning Charging Etiquette! The movie theater I go to has a row of chargers and a lot of times spaces are taken up by EVs NOT charging. They use the spots like a handicap spot. I’ve seen EV drivers looking for a place to charge and not be able to because a spot is taken by someone not charging. It’s ridiculous and worse than if the spot was Iced by a pickup.
Tonight I went to a movie and some guy with a PHEV was parked in the EV charging spot NOT charging. Some guy with an EV who needed a charge had to pull up behind the PHEV so he could charge his EV. He just had to have his car stick out a little but people could still get around him.
OR you could; Just buy a Tesla that will charge tho owner “per minute idle fees” I see people running out moving their cars. You know how it goes, if you want to get someone’s attention? then just reach into their pocket…

RE: Electrify America, I live in Reston, VA just minutes away from their HQ office. But there is literally only one Electrify America station in our town (at the local Target), and guess what? I’ve seen the cones there too! I doubt the execs running Electrify America use their own product/service, since there is only one such station near their office. Hence, I doubt they realize (or maybe care) about how sub-par their service is compared to Tesla. That said, great video as always Tom! Even if you are reducing your frequency of videos, they are still a treat to watch.
A very nice car but well beyond our price range. We've only charged our Ioniq 5 three times at Electrify America stations because the nearest one is located 60 miles away. We did not have a problem any of those times. There is a Tesla SuperCharger and ChargePoint 62kw charger two miles away but we've done most of our charging at home, which really is the way to go.
Good job as usual, Tom. One area we agree to disagree is in pockets on backs of front seats. They serve no purpose except as a dump for rear seat passengers.
I think the taycan is the car that pull people's minds away from Tesla and tesla fanboyism. A great contender that opens the market (and minds) for rivals from others brands. And competition is always good for buyers. And, on top of that, the performance, the pedigree and the style can lure a lot of petrolheads into EVs. This, as Tesla, is a gamechanger; even when for most of us, it is just a dream car.
Thanks Tom. Welcome back from vaycay....I am watching this and scanning 50s on my laserjet as I watch. getting the front and back lined up is a bit tricky....this car is more proof that wagons/hatches are cool and that manufactures in the US should stop production on most of their trunked car offerings. Every main stream sedan needs to be a wagon ASAP. Going from my GTI to the WRX has taken some getting used to as the trunk opening is not as forgiving as the hatch opening....
Can't wait for my 4S. But my MINI SE has been doing great job at keeping me entertained. Yeah one pedal is great for traffic. The car rarely really needs to stop
Your video on the super-raised prototype CT back in 2018(?) really grabbed my attention, and I've been focused on the CT ever since your great video and test drive all those years ago. My main wish is that Porsche had given us a more-raised CT4 like your "Mission E CT" was, as an electric replacement for my 23-year-old Cross Country V70 wagon. I don't like SUVs but I do like lifted wagons; I need that extra ground clearance that my old Panamera Sport Turismo E-Hybrid just didn't have (scraped ground on driveway dips and speed bumps way too often). The two biggest things that the CT4 lacks in America are one-pedal driving (as you and almost every other reviewer says is a horrible miss by Porsche, at least to give the driver the *option* of using it) and allowing for an all-metal roof (like European buyers can get).
As time goes on, I use one pedal driving less and less. I'm kind of coming around to Porsche's thinking (even though, yeah, it should be an option). I find I react to emergency situation faster without one pedal driving since I'm trained to just lift off the throttle to brake. So for me there's kind of a delay before my brain goes "wait, I need to brake HARD". I'm a huge sunroof fan so I'm okay with that.
8k on our ct4 best car I have ever owned! We only have a 25 mile daily commute and have managed our electron needs with 120v charging at home. Many road trips, Bend Or / Seattle, Bend/Bandon, Denver/Bend, Bend/Walla Walla, Bend/ Big White Canada all without a hitch. I doubt we have paid more $200 in electricity for all this driving.
Beautiful automobile. I was curious to see how difficult ingress/egress would be. It appears that you had no issues, and you didn't need to fold your body origami-style to get in 👍 I will never be able to afford a Porsche, nor do I think I will ever ride in one, but man, the build quality of Porsches is outstanding!
The ingress/egress is not the greatest considering the size of the car (6'2"). The center console is poorly designed. Those are my only gripes after 6 months
It looks like you can rest your hand on the padding of the dash while attempting to touch the controls. This is fantastic! One of the big issues with touch screens is your arm bounces around when the car is in motion making it near impossible to touch the correct spot on the first try.
That's a little tip a lot of people haven't figured out. It really helps. A lot of designers are very adamant about designing that in. At least the good ones.
As usual great content and really nicely done. Professional job. No one pedal driving because Porsche engineers claim, and rightly so, that it's a sports car after all, not an electric industrial truck 😉👍
Hey Tom. Great video (as always). I didn't see a link pop up regarding that prototype review from a few years ago (in case you forgot to code it in there somewhere).
@@DrivenCarReviews Ah sorry. I was looking for a little "tag" to pop up in the corner. I didn't know you meant the boxes at the end (which was just a few seconds later). :)
Great video Tom. Thanks! Could you share the exact build details of this model? I loved the chalk color. Did this have the torque vectoring option or the Porsche’s PDCC? Did you miss that? Best regards
Shell and BP are slowly increasing their charging network in the UK, even opening EV charging hubs (think gas station, but purely for EVs). So if the manufacturers don't band together to sort charging infrastructure, big oil will. That aside, I quite like the Taycan, but I'd have a sedan, or 'standard' wagon.
ok, then give one-pedal driving as an option to the driver; they can then opt to use it or not... Most drivers would probably use it. I can say this as both a three-ICE-Porsche owner and an EV owner. There's no way that it's not a Porsche if it allows the driver to use one-pedal driving -- for same reason that this argument fails because Porsche has ACC and LKA (and Innodrive) as options in all its vehicles.
Nice. That said, if and when I stroll into the local Porsche dealer, I'm still going straight to the 911. There will be an EV in the garage already and when I think Porsche, that visceral experience courtesy of the flat 6 mated to the sport exhaust option wins the day.
@@DrivenCarReviews The quick answer is my wife would lock me out of the house (since we have a BMW i4 on order). Nevertheless, there are plans for a new base 911 in the near future and my main concern will be that it makes it across the Atlantic without sinking.
Thanks Tom, because of your video I've run one through the Porsche configurator and sent it in to the dealer for a discussion. I'm trading in our Tesla 3AWD next year and while i like most of the figures you give, would really appreciate a comparison of some kind, with relevant competitors. Alex on Autos does a great yardstick kind of comparo to show car size, which I'd appreciate for cargo space, range, all kinds of things, maybe used judiciously. Anyway, thanks again.
Sorry but I won't be doing that. The way I do videos (compared to Alex) doesn't lend itself to those kinds of comparisons when it comes to numbers. I'm more a visual guy. But great that Alex did it, you're in good hands. The Porsche may cost more but my guess is you'll really like it.
@@DrivenCarReviews that's fair of course, but I'm thinking specifically of the visuals ie the graphic he uses, showing the length of the car he's reviewing and the length of other cars. If manufacturers want us to buy electric they need to join forces and fix the charging network. This is where Tesla shines. I also wish they build chargers with drive thru like a gas station for those of us who tow.
I am in the market for an EV. Function, Form, and Range including Value are most important to me. I am looking at the EQE, Porsche Taycan, INOIQ 6, and Model S LR. Have you done any reviews of any of those vehicles? Your thoughts... Thank you

Always a pleasure to watch your reviews! It's informtive and relaxing at the same time. Based on your surname I would say you have german ancestors.. ;-) Greetings from Germany :-)
Your experience with charging an EV (Tesla charging excluded) is why there is a slowing of enthusiasm for this mode of transportation. Can you imagine if there were 2 people in font of you waiting to charge. So much for ease of use.
I’m curious on how it compares with the Jaguar i-Pace you’ve recently tested which is another sporty EV also capable of light off-roading (probably more than the Porsche). I already know the «fast » charging is not so fast on the Jaguar… in fact it’s my only worry otherwise I would already have purchased one and I still hope they will offer a second refresh with a faster charging battery which would make sense since the futur Jaguar EV’s will not be here before 2025 ! and another car which I think is also moreless in the same ballpark is the BMW i4, you’ve tested the most powerful version but apparently the single motor propulsion is the most entertaining of the range on top of being better value. All cars that I consider although in Switzerland the Porsche is way more expensive than the other two !
No one pedal driving is surprising, as it's one of my favorite features of EV's. And I agree the Supercharger network should be the standard so maybe make the Tesla plug the standard and manufacturers start paying Tesla help speed up the rollout. Tesla can't do it all while paying for it all.
You keep mentioning that your videos shot in 4K will look "especially good" on a 4K TV set despite that it has been proven that the difference between 4K and HD is less noticeable than the difference between HD and SD, so broadcasters in the U.S. and elsewhere are actually slowing down 4K deployments in favor of 1080p at 50 or 60 fps progressive with HDR. 4K is not as dead as 3D, but it is HDR that actually makes an impact. RUclips supports HDR, and it will convert to SDR for the viewers who watch on SDR device.
I can easily tell the difference between HD and 4K and uploading those files to YT makes a big difference, even if it's not viewed in 4K. And that's what's important to me.
Thanks Tom. I really enjoy your videos. I have to wonder just how much VW is committed to making Electrify America work well since it's their penance for Dieselgate.
doesn't matter how fancy and "luxurious" the interior is or how good the handling is, if they can't get reliable and easy charging fixed as well as questionable autonomous driving tech, I will always be going with Tesla. It doesn't really matter if rarely drive on long road-trips, it only takes one trip to strand you at an inoperable EA charger.
You are clown, dude! 85% of Porsche EV customers are charging the Taycan at home ... at NIGHT! Do you know what this is or means...?? Here in Germany, with the 22 kW Taycan charging option for AC charging at home, the Taycan battery is fully charged from 0-100% in just 4.5 hours. You are claiming quite bullshit, because with some calculating and searching for DC charging stations which have serious 270 kW charging power, you will have no issues with a Taycan even on longer trips. It still has a reason, why the fastest EV at the EV Cannonball race from US coast to coast was a Porsche Taycan. With the Taycan you are still faster in real life than with a much slower charging Tesla at Supercharger, period! Although, Tom in this video had some trouble with charging at an Electrify America DC fast charging station, in reality you will get a Taycan fully charged without any issues. Just use your brain for searching proper DC charging stations before your battery is empty. Electrify America, IONITY or EnBW DC fast charging stations here in Germany are so much faster than Tesla Supercharger. Tesla Superchargers are really fucking NOTHING compared to much faster and perfectly working EnBW DC fast charging stations, at least here in Germany. You get fully 270 kW charging at these stations for a Taycan and the Porsche gets a fully charged battery in only half of the time as what you get at a Supercharger with a Tesla. Tesla Superchargers are really far away from these numbers, dude!
Only $99k…from now on I will watch any vehicle review you do that is under $50k. Otherwise I am wasting my time. BTW, I just drove from NC to Michigan..860 miles with one 10 minute stop for gasoline..not sure an EV can do that..hahaha. My vehicle. ..$25 k Honda Accord
You are correct you would need more time in an EV, I would guess you would add about 1.5 hours. Keep in mind that trip is at least 10 hours of driving. Unless you take this trip often that advantage is small in real life. One caveat with EVs is home level 2 charging is required to make them usable IMO. A Honda Accord isn't a comparable vehicle, a comparable ICE vehicle would cost at least 80k. Example, an Audi S7 is 85k.
Could have ridden an electric passenger train or - gasp! - a bullet train. The 820-mile long Beijing-Shanghai high-speed line, also known as Jinghu HSR, is the third longest high-speed railway line in the world. The line was commissioned in 2011 and has reduced the journey time between Beijing and Shanghai to 4.48 hours - with several stops in the cities along the way. Did your travel take less than 5 hours? I don't think so. The U.S. is pitifully behind other countries in its transportation infrastructure.
@@joegondo7985 I am talking about travel that is not far enough to fly, but not close enough to drive. Driving for 860 miles with one 10-minute stop is insane. It would be better for everyone including yourself if you traveled by train. Instead, you present your ICE-driven personal car experience as something significantly better than driving an EV. It is not.
@@DrivenCarReviews I agree; if it's unlocked and the car is fully charged, the plug does not belong to the owner of the car who left the car. It's a public charging cable and plug. I noticed that you did not close the charge-port door on the other car, which is proper etiquette (i.e., do not touch another person's car).
@@DrivenCarReviews If Amazon can detect who and what bought it its checkout-less store, then I bet a charging company can figure out that a car parked at the charging spot is not connected with a cable. It is just a question of willpower.

Gotta love Costco !
Excellent, 100k $ car, Excellent, comprehensive
porche? Bargain? Off road? Mad man
No one pedal driving is surprising, as it's one of my favorite features of EV's. And I agree the Supercharger network should be the standard so maybe make the Tesla plug the standard and manufacturers start paying Tesla help speed up the rollout. Tesla can't do it all while paying for it all.
Nationalize the Supercharger network, make it standard in the U.S. and expand.
Pretty much have to go 4 wheel drive with all the hp and torque in an electric unless you like buying tires.
Thanks!
Thanks Steve!
I really hope that the Canadian Luxury tax dampen the sales of the CT. I am full steam ahead
Electrify America needs new management, or Exxon should buy it and offer charging stations at each of their current gas stations
Exxon Mobil would love to buy it….and promptly shut it down.
Try to get one
Porche has the 800 volt charging so the range is fine.
what does 800 v charging have to do with range? it determines charging speed, not battery capacity or motor efficiency
@@DrivenCarReviews Fair enough. Should we expect HDR anytime soon - along or without 4k?
@@TinLeadHammer I have high standards but let's not forget these are RUclips videos.
Thanks Tom. I really enjoy your videos. I have to wonder just how much VW is committed to making Electrify America work well since it's their penance for Dieselgate.
Good question!
doesn't matter how fancy and "luxurious" the interior is or how good the handling is, if they can't get reliable and easy charging fixed as well as questionable autonomous driving tech, I will always be going with Tesla.
@@cavemankiwi it does not have to be comparable. Point ismEVs are outrageously priced and most people can notmafford
@@TinLeadHammer what the hell are you talking about..duh
@@joegondo7985 I am talking about travel that is not far enough to fly, but not close enough to drive. Driving for 860 miles with one 10-minute stop is insane. It would be better for everyone including yourself if you traveled by train. Instead, you present your ICE-driven personal car experience as something significantly better than driving an EV. It is not.

The worst part of my commute is driving by a Porsche dealership and looking at the Taycan out front. If my wife increased my allowance by 10,000% ...
It could happen. Right?
If your insurance is paid up I would like to see a Genesis GV60 review.
When was this recorded? Trying to think of last time jeans + rain were a combo here in Seattle.
June.
@@DrivenCarReviews ahh yes, basically February weather as I recall.
Is it proper to unplug the charger from other people's car even though they don't have proper etiquette? Does not appear appropriate.
Often times the plug is locked. And it's not cool unless the car is fully charged.
Just cuz a car is EV doesnt mean it has to look EV...a 911 turbo S EV version would look amazing
Bite your tongue.....
I would never buy a quartz watch (EV) for a 100k plus, i wonder who will pay for the battery replacement when it needed
Must be nice if I can win a lottery.
Thinking about selling my new model S for this....
DADDY LIKE! (Okay, technically, I'm not a daddy; the LIKE part, though, remains valid.)
Electrify America seems to be VW’s middle finger to the diesel gate debacle.
You are very very good at this Tom....I will never not follow you!! Thank you so much!!
Tom, don’t sit on the fender! 😬
They are very strong. It can take it.
Good to know. I remember when an idiot in a parking lot leaned on my 1997 BMW 328iS front fender (without my permission) and dented it.
@@barryw9473 Must have been a big guy coming in hard. I don't put a lot of weight on it I guess.
They will get idle fees if they don't move
But not if they don't plug in. I've seen that too many times.
@@DrivenCarReviews If Amazon can detect who and what bought it its checkout-less store, then I bet a charging company can figure out that a car parked at the charging spot is not connected with a cable. It is just a question of willpower.
The amount of videos with electricity America charging stations down - is that real? because that seems like an embarrassment. I would be so mad.
Porsche has cars with the engine in front or in the middle or in the back or no engine.
