Larry 'Music' Muzynski said he pulled 10.4G in the dogfight against the SU-22. It was actually a very fast dogfight taking place close to supersonic speeds. When he landed back, they saw the G-meter pegged at 10+ G and the maintainers were so happy about the two SU-22 being shot down, they did not write him up. They celebrated it with 'Music' instead. so what was diamond cutter 702 doing in the first place if it had no intention of entering libyan airspace? what was the point of flying that race track pattern?
Home on leave in 1981-82 a friend of mine had told me about this incident or one he described much like it. He was in the navy and told me that things like this happen often without much notice to the media back home.
And by the way, you have a comment below from someone named James Stum who I'm afraid is mistaken. The other carrier out there with us was the Forestall. At the time that the Gulf of Sidra Incident occurred, I believe the Eisenhower was patrolling the Indian Ocean south of the Arabian Peninsula but I'm not positive about that.
It's too bad the F-14 Tomcat that was Fast Eagle 107 in this incident was destroyed in 1994 when that female pilot crashed it trying to land it on a carrier. She had no business flying a fighter jet, she had already had a bunch of incidents and was on probation. This was the governments fault though, they were pressuring the military to get a female pilot in the air etc.
Can the F-14 not sweep the wings back and nose down to get out of a spin and re-light the engines? I'm not a pilot and know next to nothing about flying, but that I guess would be my response.
Very interesting. The level of these pilots' brains, training, and nerves is breathtaking. Their post-military careers as commercial airline pilots must be a great relief. But as we watch these "triumphal" videos let us not forget the talent and commitment of the Libyan pilots, not evil men, who were defending their country and doing their jobs. A great quote from a European chronicler of the Crusades, describing the defenders of Muslim-held stronghold: "...the flower of infidel chivalry was in their town." War is hell, of course, but a good soldier respects his opponents.
"Fitter" is the NATO Reporting name for Su-22.

Combat air patrol to protect the carrier group. It's job in otherwords
Home on leave in 1981-82 a friend of mine had told me about this incident or one he described much like it. He was in the navy and told me that things like this happen often without much notice to the media back home.
Outstanding videos, loved them all.
Very interesting and well done, thx.
Build am amazing aircraft like the F-14 but they can’t make a radio you can understand.
Hey idk if you make these videos anymore but they're really good and you should make some more!
good presentation and content!!
Great Vids! I am quite versed in most military airplanes but somehow not he S-3. Seems a lot like EA-6B but different purpose. Keep it up!
Whats the music at the end?
Pacific Storm - Meteor
It's too bad the F-14 Tomcat that was Fast Eagle 107 in this incident was destroyed in 1994 when that female pilot crashed it trying to land it on a carrier. She had no business flying a fighter jet, she had already had a bunch of incidents and was on probation. This was the governments fault though, they were pressuring the military to get a female pilot in the air etc.
Is there a retelling of the F111 attack on Libya in 86? I was at the RAF base that sent the EF111 Ravens. the F111 were from another RAF base
Great video enjoyed
Just an FYI on the subtitles. "Gerbled" and "Garbled" are two different words with two VERY different connotations. :-D
Can the F-14 not sweep the wings back and nose down to get out of a spin and re-light the engines? I'm not a pilot and know next to nothing about flying, but that I guess would be my response.
Were they pipe fitters?
Very interesting. The level of these pilots' brains, training, and nerves is breathtaking. Their post-military careers as commercial airline pilots must be a great relief. But as we watch these "triumphal" videos let us not forget the talent and commitment of the Libyan pilots, not evil men, who were defending their country and doing their jobs. A great quote from a European chronicler of the Crusades, describing the defenders of Muslim-held stronghold: "...the flower of infidel chivalry was in their town." War is hell, of course, but a good soldier respects his opponents.
