  • Do you think a modern Honda Element and Nissan Cube would be good ideas? This idea was brought up by Jordan Yeager in the "LIVE Car Talk + Q&A Ep. 53" and I thought it was a great comment worth reposting for those that didn't see the livestream. I feel like Honda is somewhat reluctant to play in the “trendy” vehicle markets nowadays, for the sake of protecting their bread and butter sales. That reluctance has made the brand a bit boring though, aside from things like the Type R of course. There was a time when every Honda had the potential and character to be fun, and I don’t think that’s the case anymore. My weekend car is an 06 Accord sedan with the V6 and 6 speed manual; certainly not a volume seller, but it was still a risk that “old Honda” took, and it seems they’ve lost their way a bit.

The only remaining “box “ is the Kia Soul aka “ Hampster mobile “ My brother nearly bought an Element SC in summer of 2003, but instead bought an Accord Coupe….big lost opportunity for him…the SC was such a rare cool ride

Boxy cars are coming back. I think it's the right time to bring back an Element to compete with the land cruiser. I remember snowboarding through a Honda Element in SSX 3 on PS2
I think covid activity vehicles (lol CUV) are going to start trickling into showrooms pretty soon. The avg dev cycle is about 4-5 years out so if Honda did plan on one, we'd probably see it soon

I love the Element. A great concept. I’ve read the designer also designed the 09 TL. That tells me a lot! At least in the looks department.

Passionate niche group isn’t enough to drive sales. They would bring it back with 4 normal doors and it would essentially be like the fake bronco

I definitely want Honda or Toyota to come out with a Maverick competitor! Small, good mpg little bed in case of that once per year i might haul a tv or something larger. Ugh come on car companies get it rolling!

For Toyota yes, but for Honda they already have the ridgeline and the ridgeline it’s already unibody like the Maverick

Would it be possible to incorporate minivan’s sliding door to the compact boxy SUV like the Element? I think it’s a better design than suicide door.

I’ve owned multiple Honda Elements and Scion xBs. I love the room of both of these cars. The Element was the best car I’ve ever owned. I would buy one in a heartbeat. Unfortunately I don’t think it will ever come back.

To be honest….family has been life long Honda fans…but they just seemed to miss on the trends.

I think the copy/paste Honda is doing is just to stay safe. Doing something based on the CRV would be awesome. If Subaru ran with the idea it would probably print money. I’d love a quirky, boxy, practical car for a daily, especially in a stick.
