I think it’s important to recognize the sheer attention to detail within the Barbie movie that, unfortunately, you can only fully grasp if you have had experience playing with the dolls/watched the original movies. Tragically, a lot of people will not be able to have as immersive of a movie-watching experience or an experience that perhaps transcends others because of their lack of physical experiences with the dolls. I guess what I’m trying to say is that the magic of the film can only be felt entirely, or at its peak, if you grew up with the doll and I’m unsure if people are aware of that going into it.
(Also I love the Charlie XCX song :)

32 y/o and first time viewer here 👋 I dressed up for Barbie and just wanted to chime in that it was everything I expected and more. Yes, there were a lot of different "arcs" going on at once but it was really entertaining. The crowds I watched it with seemed to have a good time as well. I laughed at everything from Barbie's cold shower, to Barbie saying she's not a fascist because she doesn't control the flow of commerce, lol. I think there's a little bit of something for everyone in that movie 💖

Well, yes....all intellectually correct (re Barbie) and regardless, as a mom who dressed up and saw it with my daughter: I loved it!!
It was fun, cathartic and true and what more do you want from a movie?

Guys, can you please talk about Oppenheimer as a movie with its own moment, rather than a reflect of the Barbenheimer summer? I would love to hear your opinion on the film. One can argue that christopher nolan made an experience of storytelling that at the very least, is unique

Okay, so I'm a millennial European woman who did play with a Barbie as a kid, and I thought the guys articulated a lot of what my "problems" with the movie were. Like them, I did not hate the movie, I just didn't think it was that brilliant. (Either my 2nd or 3rd fave Gerwig movie.)
I think some of it could be cultural - I did play and had, like, one Mattel catalogue when I was a kid, but that was nearly 30 years ago, and I'm sure plenty of the detail in the movie went over my head. (Also, I don't have the sort of easter egg seeking brain in general.)
I often find American satire too on the nose, thought it was a being a non-American thing, but clearly, Jon & Joe are examples of this sort of evaluation not being a geography thing.
As an experience, together with the whole marketing circus, it's a 10. As a film onto itself, I'd say a 7. I liked it, but wanted to like it more, I guess.
Amused by the women-splaining going on whenever someone dares to say the film wasn't a perfect 10. And you know what, I think it goes with the spirit of the film pretty well. ;)

The most "empowered" women are those who give up their own desires, careers, etc to serve their husbands and children. Not selfish women who pretend to be better than men and demand life on their own self-centered terms. Let's teach our daughters to serve like Jesus did. She who haughtily insists on being first, the best will be last and will be humiliated on Judgment Day; but she who gives up her life to meekly serve others will be exalted and honored.
