I have to echo the complaints about the announcers. First Taylor Roe makes a huge move, and yet the female announcer did not stop talking about Ryan, Wayment and Gregory. Then when Tuohy surged forward to close the gap, running the fastest final 600, they barely mentioned her while talking about Gregory's speed right as Tuohy was outkicking her. Tuohy was not only one of the most heralded prep athletes in the sport's history, but she was the 5000 runner up last night and they still seemed to have no clue who she was.

Congrats to Roe and Tuohy on spectacular races. But Roe came in fresh, while Tuohy ran the 5K the day before. She clearly is running with more strength this indoor season - hopefully with a lot of workouts with the middle distance team. She is close but I’m sure all her coach’s efforts will be to turn the drive and strength towards a stronger finish. I imagine she’s unhappy with her two 2nd places but her coach is seeing great things ahead

Really interesting analysing the last lap a little further. Roe's stride length is deceptively large at 1.90m, compared to Tuohy's which is 1.80m. So for every step Roe took, she took 10cm out of Tuohy! However, Tuohy managed to get in 111 strides compared to Roe's 105 strides, so Tuohy clawed back 1.15 seconds on Roe. So this was a battle between cadence vs stride length! On this occasion, cadence was good, but not quite good enough!

taylor roe did the right thing of moving early, because if not, katelyn tuohy and lauren gregory would have caught her
when roe started her early surge at 7:27 mark, katelyn was in the 9th place, the pack that katelyn was in didn't respond to roe's surge, they didn't move, katelyn was patient and made a move of her own to track down roe then lauren gregory followed her.....that early surge was the reason why roe won this race because roe wasn't really running faster than tuohy for the last 3 laps, she just relied on the distance created by her early surge starting at the last 4 laps while the pack where tuohy settled in didnt move.. tuohy ran the fastest last lap, a 31s and also the fastest last 400 and fastest last 600, but roe's risky decision was the key to holding off katelyn's crazy finishing kick, katelyn sure had plenty left despite also going all out in the 5000m the night before but roe just edge it

katelyn tuohy is just so cool, always has, always been! it is amazing to see her up there at the top as a college runner! i remember in high school, everyone would talk about her, gushing about her, want to take a glimpse of her and we would take photos and videos, we would always ask her how to be fast, and we always say we want to be her when i grow up and were older than her! good times! happy and excited for her!

Tuohy turned 20 in March. In August, 2028 she'll be 26. And if her trajectory continues and she follows the pattern for most elite women athletes, she could be close to the peak of her career then. Just so happens the 2028 Summer Olympics are in Los Angeles for the third time (previous LA Olympics were in 1932 and 1984). Book your reservations soon.

Bad commentary not a mention of Touhy until the last 60 metres wake up, she made it the great race it turned into. Congratulations to Roe Smart RUNNING, I imagine Touhy learnt a lot in that. Running the inside gets you pushed back, then panicked when the pace went on.

When Roe put the strike in with 800m to go, Tuohy was caught in traffic, giving Roe a 15 metre advantage with 3 laps remaining, and still managed to claw back all but two metres at the finish. Her last 800m was 2:11; her last 200 was 31.2! It's great to see Tuohy back and racing; she should have won both this and the 5k based on the form she showed here but I guess she's suffering a temporary lack of confidence. When she gets that back, she'll run well clear of this field. This run is the 1,291st best performance on the all-time list. Katelyn also has the joint 761st fastest time on the all-time list at 8:54.18 which she ran in December 2021 so she's definitely fast improving once again.

Anyone notice Touhy & Roe side by side near the back of the pack at the end of the first turn. Plus Roe at the top of the list pre race... I think this is my fav Touhy race...even tho she didn't win. She kept being pushed back in traffic. Cost her. Love Roe's strategic move answer, "I don't know!"

the commentator was completely oblivious to the first signs of Tuohy on the verge of becoming the dominating runner she became. The second race of the meet when Katelyn was second with two terrific closing sprints that in Taylor Roe's case was faster than Taylor's case.

Katelyn still has a lot to learn about actual racing, as opposed to time-trialing, as she readily admits. It would be interesting to look at the key regional and national prelims and finals to see where the top two or three finishers were 1k, 800, 600, 400 and 200 from the finish. I wonder if there are patterns? There must be, even considering pace, the competitors with the best kicks, and so forth.
