So nice of them to let Wheeler play again after last episode's blunder. Impressive that they managed to get all the blood off of the walls that quickly too.
Just gotta say, editing has been just getting juicier and juicier as the months go by! Love it! Also, thanks for having me its great to be here
I loved the discussion about decks at the end, I'd love to see that more often
Why is the deck named "naya counters" if wheeler didn't counter anything?
Why do they call it mono black aggro when you mon o' the black mana of a grow black mon the aggro?
Why is it called oven if you of in the cold food of out hot eat the food?
Well it’s not called wheeler counters, now is it?
Naya Counters really feels similar to Aristocrats where you can just ram a bunch of uncommon dork cards together and it just works.
Now i want to make a North 100 Showdown bingo board
This show has become one of my favorites. I really hope when I move to Chicago they have a scene for Candian Highlander.
Excellent, as always. Thank you.
I can’t pass up North 100 Showdown when I see it. Even if I’m in the middle of something else.
neat, first new video of this series after binging the full playlist while being sick for the last week
what a great episode, as always. Thank you so much!
I look forward to this series every week.
You lookin real cute Wheeler!
My favorite LRR show!!! Keep it up bois
Urza's Saga should be pointed right? It seems like a powerhouse card that can fit into almost every deck. Maybe there is something I am missing but it's always powerful and often tutored for. Has this been discussed at all or maybe its considered too new to make a decision on pointing it.
Edit: I never said it but I just mean 1 point
I think it needs 1 point, it's a free way to put power into play and find a mox/1 cmc combo piece or Shadowspear
It's a shame we didn't get to see Wheeler's deck showcase its true power. We didn't see a single mana tithe, red elemental blast, or avoid fate
I love Wheeler and Nelly. Thanks for another great video.
Love Nelson's custom sleeves. Thought I recognized Kilnfiendpotters work!
The after game discussion reminded me of a convo between me and my friend who said my 4c Thrasios and Akiri commander deck wasnt really an "Initiative" deck because I only ran 6 Initiative cards. The deck may be primarily based around flickering and copying creatures but at the end of the day that's just a way to maximize the Initiative mechanic.
Without Black, I’m pretty sure there are only 6 playable initiative creatures anyway
Leave it to Wheeler to make every deck an artifact deck.
Ah yes, I remember back when Serge would lightly kiss his cards in order to tap them. I'm glad that he just turns them sideways now
very nice after games discussion on deckbuilding
Starting to think this Wheeler fellow is pretty good at Magic.
Anyone know where to find Nelson's Klimt-esque Jace Vraska sleeves?
Nelson on mono black aggro is always a delight to see.
Black blood moon = contamination*
*terms and conditions apply
It appears to be a painting by Michelle Rapp but I can find literally no reference to it being made into sleeves, playmat or otherwise. Almost wonder if they are custom made?
@@mitchdixon3755Yep, they’re custom, using Dragon Shield’s maker is good for that.
It wasn't a flooded strand after all, it was me, Dio!
top-tier sleeve game Nelly 👏👏👏
I dont remember if they changed how X spells CMC works or not. Is it right to use the counter on Ballista or did Wheeler loose a point of damage at 4:16 by using the counter thus making the spell fizzle? Or did he use it because the XX cost counts as 0 CMC thus not damaging any way?
Wheeler used the counter to ping Nelson, so the ballista died and the spell fizzled. X on the battlefield is treated as 0, so if Wheeler didn't ping, Feed the Swarm would have made Nelson lose 0 life.
The mana value of a spell can only be changed on the stack. Everywhere else, it is the combined value of all mana pips, including numeric pips, in the right corner of a card. X is treated in 0 in these cases, so Ballista's mana value is 0 everywhere but the stack.
Nelly and mono black- name a better duo. I'll wait
Regardless of what a person's favorite color in MTG is, I think everyone's gotta respect Nelly's dedication and love for mono Black
On par for me personally with Ben "Premier _______ Pilot of the Format" Wheeler. And Serge "How does Urza's Saga work?" Yager.
Wheeler and literally any deck he plays, evidently.
Best content of the best format of the best game
@wheeler please get the members of alternative rock band 311 to play their hit song "Down" after you say throw. thank you for having me it's great to be here
All I'll say is Hardened Scales is probably my favourite magic card
game three looked brutal! when mono b does it's thing it does it scarily
It really feels like wheeler is playing newer cards with a higher power level and synergy across his cards.
So what you're saying is he's playing Canlander
MORE THROWDOWN YASSS
We have to start pointing Ben, He's worth at least 3 points
Which Ben?
@@melineeluna both, just to be safe
@@ArleneMarvell and the last 4 points are for Ben-Ben, Akki Hermit. A full 10 points for Ben Ben Ben-Ben.
I've also got the Monet sleeves with the dragon edited in (the sleeves Ben is playing with). But I don't remember where I bought them and I've lost a few so I don't have enough to sleeve up 100 cards anymore.
Do you know where to get them? I really want more of them.
Edit: I actually also like Nelson's sleeves
look up "Dragon Shield Poppy Field", some online retailers have them in stock
Ahhhh Nelly! ❤ GG
The only proper way to determine first player in MtG below comp REL is to play Rock Lobster, Paper Tiger, Scissor Lizard.
c'mon get up, c'mon get DOWN with the counters
Was it just me missing something or how was Nelson able to kick-cast Tourach?
Floated mana with saga.
"are you thinning?" ..... "Dont talk to me."
This isnt desert bus?
When's the year-end? I can't wait to see Wheeler choke again!
Does Nelly lose one life from Feed the Swarm in game one? As the effect fizzles because Wheeler sacks in response to ping one the permanent is no longer a legal target with a CMC?
He lost one from the Ballista activation, Feed the Swarm didn't resolve (and he wouldn't have lost life if it had, as Ballista has a mana value of 0 anywhere other than the stack).
@@zackreph939 I thought as much, thank you.
Neglected the CMC=0 XX wrinkle. Thanks for that too!
What are nelsons sleeves? Look like dragon shield but never seen them.
It's custom artwork from Kilnfiendpotter. She made a gorgeous work and posted the steps on her Mastodon
Game1 Nelson could've had Sheoldred down a turn earlier if he draws with Castle before playing the swamp. Don't think it wouldve changed the outcome of the game, because Ben should still swing with the Aspirant. But if the threat of deathtouch had deterred him it would buy Nelson another turn for a total of 2 which would be just enough to kill Ben with draws.
Those are nice sleeves
THROW DOWN!!! WHOOO
Any deck with rotting regisaur makes me happy
I'm not 100% sure, but in the second game Wheeler kept getting the constructs power wrong?! He kept counting shadowspear twice. I'm not 100% sure, don't flame me 😅
Also not positive but I think its because shadowspear gives +1/+1
@@austingearing1176 you're so right and so smart! Thank you
Anyone have a site to by the Jace-Vraska sleeves?
Does Nelson have Klimt sleeves?? 😍
Wheeler in his fin dom era?
Not to downplay anything, but that game one exemplifies everything I despise about modern Magic card design. It feels like there's so many cards printed now that read "Deal with me immediately or lose the game." Wheeler got to play like three to four, and Nelson played one and lost.
NELSON I'M WITH YOU. Just give me a black blood moon. (better than Contamination)
Combine that idea with when he said "couldn't thoughtseize that one" about Urza's Saga: print a Thoughtseize but it can also take nonbasic lands.
OH GODDDDD
there you go mono-black aggro.
That first game was so scuffed
Winning every single match against every opponent ON TOP of winning every single dice roll to go first? Perhaps there is something sus here.
The dice I can't really explain, but it seems like Wheeler tends to play winning versions of decks while Serge and Nelson more often play pet decks.
@@Mordalon You'd think RNG would be involved somewhere just based on the sheer volume of matches.
You got to the conclusion that I'm cheating because I have a 70% MWP while playing better decks while making fewer mistakes?
@@bwheelermtg You posited the question during the video yourself, my guy. It does make one wonder about it now that it was spoken aloud. I never used the word cheating. Perhaps it's just favorable editing of the videos.
I feel like this would be a very stupid, low stakes setting to cheat in. I think he just plays good decks well.
pls point shadow spear
THROW
down?
down?
woooow
Mono black is fun but you need to go over the top, these little creatures just aren't good topdecks.
Counter??? I barely know her
It seems like an example of correlation without causation to assume UB cards are inherently pushed, when the majority don't see competitive play and they aren't Standard sets so they aren't as restrictive with power level inherently. It's like how people seem to think the past had so much better music or film than today, when people just tend to remember the good stuff.
Wheeler makes me angry sometimes
That shirt gets old quickly
magic players: complain about fetchlands. Also magic players: spend half the game searching libraries for lands.
Y'all know it is not a legal requirement to play with them right? You play magic in an insular environment: You can literally play or ban whatever you want to. It's okay, Richard Garfield isn't going to come out of your closet and drag you into the underworld for slightly suboptimal deck-building. *cough* Wheeler *cough cough*
It's 100 card singleton: you can't make a 3+ colour manabase work without fetches without exclusively playing tap lands, and that is a huge disadvantage.
@@caw555 well I beg to differ. Play more basics. Or play less colors. Playing many colors is supposed to have drawbacks by design. You hav access to more cards and therefore better options in every situation. Bad Mana is the cost
@@8BitCyberWarrior They could play more basics, and the mana would be terrible, obviously. I understand the costs of playing more colours aren't as high as maybe they used to be, but the format still has Blood Moon and PoP to help keep things in line. But whingeing in the comments about a perfectly sensible perspective - that fetch lands slow down physical games of magic especially in formats like canlander, and equally that they're necessary for any deck with more than two colours to function - isn't, I think, reasonable. Just not playing fetch lands isn't the solution you seem to think it is.
@@caw555 it's a lot simpler than you're making it. Don't play fetch lands = problem solved. Fuck blood moon and that other dumb shit why should people be wasting slots in their deck to deal with the opponents' mana base? With enough of those kinds of pieces the game just devolves into "Draw blood moon; win- don't draw blood moon; lose". It's a coin flip. That's not fun to watch or play, nor is shuffling 15 times during every single game of magic you play. Just because a solution isn't perfect doesn't mean it's not still better than the current status quo. Even the players don't want to play with them- they were complaining about it themselves- so who exactly are you defending here?
Deeply unserious comment lmao
Imagine a world where Wheeler is not winning every game of canlander magic 🥲
