Someone may have said this already, but: the place for Tempting Wurm is Beamtown Bullies. Discard the Wurm somehow, play Bullies, reanimate it onto somebody else’s board so you get the ETB effect. Does have the slight problem that you’re not necessarily ahead after doing it; you’ve just ensured that one particular person is really far behind. Which is basically all that Beamtown Bullies does!
Overlaid Terrain rules clarification: you cannot tap your lands for double mana in response to it entering, as it's an *as* it enters trigger, not *when* it enters, thus there's no trigger to respond to.
@@frostfirexd5857I have a sense of humor and Crim contributes genuinely nothing to the podcast. Everything he says is completely improvised and has no substance
@@qwerty62201 All Richard says is "Card is bad because it dies to Doom Blade." or "The card is bad because it makes you target number one." or stuff along those lines. You call that contributing?
You guys were so close to the Richard strat with overlaid terrain. You play surveyor's scope, cast the overlaid terrain and then crack the scope. You suddenly went from 4 lands to 3 but from 4 mana to 6
Blood Funnel works in my Tatsunari, Toad Rider deck, because you can keep sacrificing and recreating Keimi, so all of your enchantments are 2 mana less forever
Dominating Lucid and the lure licid are great in decks that untap their mana at the end of their own turn and/or each opponents turn. Makes paying the costs much easier.
9:28 Carnival of Souls makes you black mana whenever a creature enters and Mana Echoes makes you colorless mana when a creature enters under your control
Another commander for Blood Funnel is Saruman, the White Hand! You can stack the triggers so that the Amass resolves before the Blood Funnel to make an army to sac, or if you already have an army, you can have the Funnel trigger first, so that you’ll amass a new army after the Funnel sacrifices your existing one. Plus, the Funnel helps you cast even bigger spells, to amass even bigger armies.
I feel like “Nebuchadnezzar” is a great card to feature on this episode. I was thumbing through my collection and when I stumbled across it I immediately began brewing it as my newest commander deck.
Sadly you can't tap lands for double mana with Overlaid Terrain when it enters, the lands are sacrificed just before it enters. I remember getting this card a couple years ago with the intention of building a deck around it but haven't yet. Might finally do it now.
Unfortunately, it's not possible to tap lands for 2 mana in response to Overlaid Terrain, since it's a replacement effect, not a triggered ability (also means it can't be stifled).
my brother has a kazuul deck that uses trove of temptation and lots of other goading effects. it creates a 3/3 for each attacker which doesn’t seem like much but most value engines eventually get destroyed.
Thrasios/vial smasher deck that abuses retreat to coral helm with the ants and crucible of world, ramunap excavator with extra land drops like azusa, oracle mul daya, wayward sawtooth, exploration, etc. But also can use creatures like llanowar scout, skyshroud ranger, walking atlas to abuse landfall etbs using bouncelands which also go infinite mana with spelunking, amulet of vigor, tiller engine.
False Dawn is great with Kykar, Winds Fury. Cast instants and sorceries for white and generate spirits you sac for white instead of red. its a great way to storm off with Kykar cause then you no longer worry about colors for any spells and with a draw engine it can be infinite
Alright it’s simple you play army ants, intruder alarm, lotus cobra, and concordant crossroads then have a dryad arbor on the field and attach Springheart Nantuko to it, then you play another land pay the the cost to duplicate dryad arbor which will then trigger lotus cobra and nantuko to trigger you tap the token for a mana and using the cobra mana make another copy infinitely and use army ants sacrificing each token to blow up all opponents lands. It’s really a simple combo
I’ve seen people use Tempting Wurm as a “win-con” in Insurrection and goad type decks. The idea being that you either steal all the big beefy creatures from the opponent’s fields or force them to attack everyone but you
I am likewise obsessed with Trove of Temptation. And yes Seth, as a modern Amulet player, there's definitely loops to be had with Spelunking in play though in singleton they'd be a pain to assemble.

With Tangleroot I have a Marwyn Elfball deck that becomes INSANE when Cloudstone Curio sticks. The idea is to keep bouncing low cost elves to hand and recasting them for Marwyn counters, cast, and ETB affects. Tangleroot would allow this combo to effectively cost zero mana with 1 drops, or up to 2 to 3 drops depending on cost reducers. But again it requires pieces to work but I might throw it in to just see how it plays out.
Tangleroot is also good with that blue green elf legend that lets you tutor a creature to the top of library when ever you play a green spell + draw a card when you play a blue spell.
51:52 blood funnel can be used as a combo with hive mind & the kamigawa which spells. You counter your copy and then your opponents get locked out of casting spells

3:31 Trove of Temptation is in my Naya Marath moose combo deck, I can usually print enough tokens to block or they’re smacking a stuffy doll or brash taunter, the treasure helps fuel my almost infinite ashnod’s altar loop
37:40 I once had someone play tempting wurm in his "group hug" ramos deck and then use ramos to make 10 mana and cast insuraction and altar of dementia. It is a trick that only works once but when it does damn. He also amagedoned for good messure but that didn't really matter anymore
25:00 False dawn works with devotion so it can help your nyxoths to produce more white mana while also turning all of your spells white so you can cast them off of the nyxoths mana
Overlaid Terrain would be sweet in Zimone, Mystery Unraveler cause you can manifest it into play and then flip it over so you don't have to sacrifice your lands at all.
Trove of Temptation fits perfectly in Thantis, the Warweaver. I've had a lower power version of her for a couple years and there's a number of "please attack me" cards. No Mercy and Dread, Revenge of Ravens/Marchesa's Decree style cards, Emberwilde Captain, Elder Gargaroth, Jaheira's Respite, and the "whenever enchanted player is attacked...you do the same" curses all go nicely with it.
28:11 My thought with shared fate is to play it in Taigam, Sidi's hand. You skip your own draw step so you're free to play your own deck, while your opponents scramble to find a coherent gameplan.
In 60 card days I tried to build a Tempting Wurm deck. Deck also ran Hunted Wumpus, Chain of Smog, and Dodecapod. No clue if I ever played any games with the deck. Separately, I love me a licid, any licid can block, hop on, then hop off. With the artifact licid that becomes an enchantment that makes the creature an artifact being weird. But I especially love me a Dominating Licid. Can't steal, sac, and hope off, but steal something, then in response to removal for the creature, you hop to a new creature. Chef's kiss. Sadly, theft focused decks just feel frustrating. For everyone involved. You need to steal things to be able to do enough damage. And opponent's might not cast their stuff if they can't defend it. That said, I have a Dragonlord Silumgar deck. It has it's own aggroish plan, and then steals things as part of its removal package. someone got a planeswalker? No worries, I'll let them tick it up for me and land Silumgar later to claim the ultimate. No one puts down good things? Fine, I have a plan that'll kill them anyhow. :)
Dominating Licid is in my Arna Kenerud deck. Its a creature enchantment but when it gets copied by Arna its just a copy of the creature...and you steal something else...
Played Trove of Temptation in standard when I first got back into the game. Back in the days when treasure was new and they were still figuring it out :D
Treasure Trove in a pillow fort prison deck. With those effects you force your opponents to choose between attacking you or making their plays in their first main phase. It still seems like a big investment though.
On the note of [Naked Singularity], sure you can play [Chromatic Lantern] or [The World Tree] to fix all your mana. But personally I would play this in a colorless deck to send a message to everyone at the table.
Blood Funnel goes infinite with Guile and a storm spell. When Blood Funnel counters your storm spell, you still get the storm copies, and then Guile lets you next the storm spell again for free. Repeat ad infinitum! Also works with Cephalid Shrine.
You cannot tap lands in response to overlaid terrain, there’s nothing to respond to, since it’s not a trigger, it’s an etb replacement effect. (It is also explicitly clarified in the gatherer ruling for that card)
Naked Singularity with counter removal shenanigans works well in Tom Bombadil, because then you can use those cards to mess with Sagas if you don't draw it.
When it comes to the Licid creatures, I like them in Kaima, the fractured calm! An aura you can move around to goad different creatures feels really good
Oooo. Tempting wurm in a deck with all lands and some commander that takes advantage... or maybe that black card that crim lives that destroy all creatures that entered play this turn?
I’ve wondered before about a deck designed around cursing yourself and forcing attacks into the curses. Trove of Temptation is good for that. It could include thing like Cunning Rhetoric too.
Alela, Artful Provocateur is pretty sweet with Blood Funnel since you want to cast artifacts and enchantments anyway, and when you do, she'll make the creature you need sacrifice anyway
47:00 Blood Funnel Teysa Karlov and the creatures that create a token creature when they die. there are currently 8 at 1 mana which with teysa gets you 3 sacrifices for 1 mana. and she can leverage the sacrifices as well.
Overlaid Terrain actually sounds interesting in Yuma. My deck is built around constantly throwing my lands in the graveyard to recycle them in large landfall bursts later. I am gonna have to try it.
Shared Fate combo in commander: Mill out your opponents first, then play Shared Fate. Instead of just "winning the game" you now force your opponents to play your cards, because with all your opponents milled out they can't choose to draw from any opponent except you. They can't lose from having an empty library since they can't draw, so they will be forced to play your deck or quit
I still remember playing Emperor way back in the day at my LGS; a kid plays Tempting Wurm and IMMEDIATELY gets dunked on by his teammates while all the opponents are laughing 😂🤣😅 good times!!

Tomer: group hug wants someone to win
Me: I’ve not lost a game with my group hug deck
39:57 You had me ROLLING Tomer!
Army Ants with Dakmor Salvage (the dredge land), no green required.
Tempting Wurm looks hilarious in Beamtown Bullies!
You cannot tap lands in response to overlaid terrain, there’s nothing to respond to, since it’s not a trigger, it’s an etb replacement effect. (It is also explicitly clarified in the gatherer ruling for that card)
Naked Singularity with counter removal shenanigans works well in Tom Bombadil, because then you can use those cards to mess with Sagas if you don't draw it.
false dawn goes super well in a kykar storm deck, basically fixes your mana entirely for your storm turn and you usually have too much red mana
When it comes to the Licid creatures, I like them in Kaima, the fractured calm! An aura you can move around to goad different creatures feels really good
41:57 I have a Tempting Wurm from high school that a friends gave to me and signed “It’s tempting…”
Oooo. Tempting wurm in a deck with all lands and some commander that takes advantage... or maybe that black card that crim lives that destroy all creatures that entered play this turn?
False Dawn turns Clay Champion into a big beefy robot that buffs up all your little guys.
I’ve wondered before about a deck designed around cursing yourself and forcing attacks into the curses. Trove of Temptation is good for that. It could include thing like Cunning Rhetoric too.
Try out Thantis
Alela, Artful Provocateur is pretty sweet with Blood Funnel since you want to cast artifacts and enchantments anyway, and when you do, she'll make the creature you need sacrifice anyway
blood funnel is really good with Judith, Carnage Connoisseur as your commander, you ping everyone for 2 for every spell you cast + death triggers
47:00
Blood Funnel
Teysa Karlov and the creatures that create a token creature when they die. there are currently 8 at 1 mana which with teysa gets you 3 sacrifices for 1 mana.
and she can leverage the sacrifices as well.
Blood Funnel in a Judith, Carnage Connoisseur deck perhaps. I had a deck with Storm Cauldron that I put overlaid terrain in.
