      I thought student loan was a myth. The old man who gives 2/4 years scholarship to UCB from community college told me that first bachelor degree was free from financial aids(FAFSA) and cal grant by being independent. I was building up my letters of recommendation from computer science classes.

      Here is the real list:
      1). Berkley will print the name of their school on their degrees so that the rest of the world knows where and how those graduates were indoctrinated.
      2). It is an excellent school to learn how to become a far-left progressive liberal socialist
      3). You will learn how to get along well with a very small portion of the population and only that small population
      4). You will be intolerable to a majority of the population and spend most of your life and energy hating these people
      5). You will be taught what to think rather than how to think and might serve on the DNC to bring this slogan to their next convention.
      6). That little hate-baby in your soul will grow to be a mature and effective full grown hate wielding monster by the time you are released into society.
      7). You will learn more gender identities than your colleagues that did not attend a school that teaches you that this is one of the most important things to focus on.
      8). You will spend your life knowing that global warming is the biggest threat to the world and anything that resembles fact or truth will make you nauseated and trigger you.
      9). Being a loner, old, and fat with a lot of cats who will know how to properly hate Donald Trump....even if it means making shit up to support this will be a nice retirement.
      10). You will soon understand that Joe Biden is the greatest POTUS of all time.

    I agree about study groups. Some classes are so difficult that a study group is almost mandatory.
    I passed a difficult class one time and would have never made it without a study group.
    College is brutally hard and it's designed that way.

    Thoughts about these as someone who also went to Berkeley:
    CONS:
    1. This is highly dependent on the class and your motivation. If you're in a huge freshman math class or something, sure there's going to be a lot of people at office hours, but there's plenty of extra help and resources outside of the prof's office hours. It's not like you're really going to want a letter of rec from a generic class like this anyway. In upper division classes, it was very common for my professors to know me, as barely anyone goes to office hours. It's profs like this in more specialized classes in your major that you enjoy that you would want to write a letter of rec or make connections with anyway.
    2. This likely very dependent on your major. I'm in engineering and there was lots of research opportunities. You could easily talk to professors about their research and ask to join their lab. Of course, it's not guaranteed your first choice will say yes, since some labs are too advanced for undergrads or are just really full but there are definitely enough options to find something no problem. I'm guessing premed is harder, I just wanted people to know it's not necessarily the same for everyone.
    3. Agreed
    4. True, it's definitely not the safest, but there's free night safety shuttles so you certainly don't have to uber home. I went 5 years without encountering any crime personally, so it's definitely not just inevitable.
    4.5. Very true, it's a struggle for everyone
    5. There are lots of business and CS clubs like this, but outside of that it's much more relaxed. If you don't want to surround yourself with these type of people, it's very easy to stay away from them. If you're looking for clubs for the actual sake of meeting new people and having fun, you'll find a much more wholesome chill atmosphere than if you're just looking for clubs to get some kind of networking advantage. And simply by the nature of meeting people, I'm sure you'll make some meaningful and helpful connections.
    I agree with most of the pros. I love that people don't really care what you look like. And that doesn't mean everyone is just lazy, but rather they're much more willing to be different rather than basic. While these types of people surely exist everywhere, I feel like there's generally less fake, self absorbed people than other places, especially compared to LA. It might feel competitive if you're premed or business (which is probably true everywhere), but this girl is both and even she said it's not that bad. I personally never experienced people being competitive, rather the opposite, everyone felt like they were struggling and we could kind of bond over that and go through it together. Although I disagree that campus is easy to get around. It's quite hilly and that can definitely make it a struggle and rule out biking/skating for many people. But it is nicely located near tons of restaurants, bars, etc so you definitely won't need a car which is nice. Plus I just love the city along with Oakland and SF, there's plenty to do and easy enough to get around.

    • @laughter95
      @laughter95 2 года назад +1

      Taxes are high and all the NIMBY tech CEOs are living in $3MM homes in the hills behind gates. They preach about diversity and inclusion yet everyone at UCB is Asian. With all that tax money you'd think they'd do something about the hobos and crime but I guess that'd be violence.

    • @GeoFreako
      @GeoFreako 2 года назад +2

      @@laughter95 The lack of diversity, is not the fault of the city nor the university- in the 1990s affirmative action was ruled out in California, which has been the greatest cause for the lack of racial diversity. UCB being a state school has to abide to state laws. That being said I do agree that Berkeley/SF residents and gov't regard the homelessness situation as "it is what it is" rather than actively doing something about it.

Make sure to utilize office hours with GSI (grad student instructors), and also dont be afraid to go to the student learning center! And, just vocalize to the professor when you are struggling! @AngelicaSong  5 лет назад +3

      justin t it’s usually a paper workbook! It’s sold at local copy stores/book stores on Bancroft (street in front of campus). So once you get on campus, maybe the prof can tell you where specifically-but the main big ones should have most! Or email them! If you want to know exactly where beforehand.

      Hey, I'm not a Cal student but I'm also debating whether or not to apply next semester. Berkeley doesn't have a Journalism major but you could probably get your degree in English or Communications.
      I'd also like to hear what other English/Literature students have to say about admissions at UCB. It's obviously a selective school but I'm curious to see if it's as hard to get into as a liberal arts major compared to a STEM major like (let's say) computer science. Best of luck with your applications!

    • @AngelicaSong
      @AngelicaSong  4 года назад +6

      Hanon Choi hi! Congrats! Safety is def a big issue here. In terms of homeless population & local violence, I would just say be extra careful. I always have pepper spray on me and I try to Uber or have friends walk me home after sunset. I try to not listen to music while I walk LOL yea but anything can happen even in daylight. Also, avoid doing work in certain cafes that are known to just have people take and run with your stuff.

Rent is 100% approachable you just need to give yourself time and find what location really fits best for you! Crime alerts can be really scary but most college's struggle with things similar to this soo it's kind of an issue that's unavoidable occasionally maybe it's a bit heightened in Berk but I haven't seen it as a massive issue! hope this helped

      @camerynpeknik2494 4 года назад

      Akash Sureshkumar im on the waitlist for premed as well. the med school acceptance rate at berkeley is ~70%, which is good, im not sure what northeastern is. that being said the avg gpa of a bio student @ cal is also around 2.4, which is not the best for med school apps lol. UCSF is sorta close so u can maybe on an off chance get research like she said there and research in general is great but hard to get. i think the best option is to do pre med but maybe a more interesting major to set u apart a bit more. theres a lot of research/internship/volunteering with northeastern which definitely is better for applying to med school. from all the ppl ive talked to, if youre premed at cal you just have to really be willing to put yourself out there and try to get involved in as much as you can! its more of needing to take initiative and exploring all of your options to build a resume. hope this helps- ive done hella research and talked to SOSOSO many people hahahah

      Take AP classes in high school that you’re good at, try to get the most A’s in high school as long as possible and be active in your school community. Don’t stress about it now, just have fun in middle school

    I'm confused I thought HAAS was for business majors. How does that work with you being pre-med?

      You just have to take the required classes for med school to be pre med, so you dont have to be a specific major for. :)

    I wanted to go to uc b but hearing everyone’s experience it’s just not for me. I’ll rather go to another UC that fit my personality better

    Is it that cloudy all the time, even in summer ? :'( Because I'm going to Berkeley for summer session and I was hoping it was better at this time of the year ... (I'm from south of France and it is pretty hot out there)
