- The Tamron 20mm F2.8 DI III OSD M1:2 lens for Sony E-mount boasts close-focusing capability and a 1:2 magnification ratio. It's also incredibly affordable. Could this Tamron be a great wide angle macro lens for Sony shooters?

I don't even have any interest in this lens but I love watching you guys.
Can't tell you how many times i'm in the same situation..
Same here
I don't even own a camera!
I'm always amazed by the production quality of these videos. Can really tell a ton of work goes into making it happen.
For $350, this is actually a pretty good lens. It all depends on what you need this lens for. For wedding photography -- yes. I used it at a wedding last weekend and i'm impressed.
can i see your wedding photos
Next location should be your trusted Cannabis Dispensary 🤗
Been waiting for this👍🏽
Im loving the Jazz flavaz you folks are stamping on your channel ..nice
For $250, I'm really happy with this lens. Very high quality corrected, and light/compact to boot. Is it a 20mm G? No, but it's $250.
Thankyou for the constructive feedback on this review! I was actually considering picking one of these up for Videography.
Presumably you could also adapt the Sigma 20/1.4, which I was impressed by when I played with one on a couple of occasions, just a teeny bit too little to buy it yet (I'm about one price cut away).
One issue I have with f/2.8 wide primes is how close they are to 16-35 f/2.8 or f/4 zooms for the money you are spending.
The macro was cool tho...
4:46 the distortion correction suddenly kicks in
Would love to see the sigma 24-70 f2.8 Sony fe review please?
I really liked the portraits, especially the Jordan's
For the size, price, and weight this looks awesome. It would be perfect on the A7c
which 20mm lens should i go for sigma, tamron or sony. i love to take wide angle close shots in street, macro, landscape nature, i am also interested in night and astro photography. plz advice
Great video. Wonderful place to shoot a review at.
Thanks for the vid.
Was looking at the Sony A6400, and wanted a nice small lense to carry on the motorbike.
Wow, the price diff with the Sony 20mm 1.8 is astounding.. even now! :)
More dope captions, nice
Had the lens and enjoyed the photography side for the creative almost macro abilities. But, I use 20mm for my videos and this lens has a huge amount of barrel distortion. I guess for photos your good but for videos, I really couldn’t use it. I’d like to get multiple uses of out a lens for more versatility and was just disappointed.
NIce review! thanks
How does it compare to the Sony 20 2.8 pancake or the Sigma 19 2.8 for sony e?
Bought this used to go into my light kit/travel kit. Paired with the Tamron 28-200 and the Sony 50 f/1.8 (also bought used for cheap). My priority was light weight and value and I think I’m still getting very good quality with this setup. I have better (much more expensive and heavy) lenses at home for when I want/need them but this trio gives me 90% or more of the quality at 25% the weight and cost.
I am going the same route with my a7c for travel ( in the future!) I just bought the 28-200 and already own the 55 f1.8 so I am shopping for that small wide angle.
@@chryseass.5143did you do that? I'm considering getting this and the 28-200mm plus A7IV for travel
Did the Sony camera at 4:45 / 4:46 actually decide on itself to apply some correction suddenly? Certainly looks like the image gets a little bit stretched from one moment to the next.
Yes, certainly looks like it. Imagine that happening every 15 seconds in a documentary, must be great fun.
Might be that the correction profile is different based on the focus distance, so after refocusing the camera updates the profile. Ridiculous behavior for videographers.
Also you can see that it hunts for focus and this was the reason I returned my Tarmon 24/2.8 which had the same effects and especially on my A7ii the autofocus was horrendously slow and unreliable compared to the Tamron 28-75/2.8.
How does I compare to the Sigma 16mm 1.4 DC DN ?
Is this lens available for all camera brands or just sony?
Would you recommend this lens for vlogging? Thanks
How do you compare this to the Samyang 18mm f2.8?
Hello ! How many drinks in the distillery ?
for video works this lens???
The macro capabilities are pretty cool, but I would have preferred a lens with a wider aperture. Good thing Sony made the 20mm F1.8G :)
Yeah with the prize hundred dollars more
How is this lens for self vlogging?
How about for indoor pictures of buildings? Good enough?
A nice alternative would be the samyang 18mm 2.8 which seems to be quite sharp.
Thanks for the review! Hope Tamron and Sigma will bring out versions for Nikon Z ;-)
is this good for Vlogging on a Sony a7iv?
What would be a better and not too expensive alternative to this lens?
i actually learned a fair bit about photography here. thank you! liked n Subbed
Can you explain what a macro 1:2 magnification means? I never understood what that meant.
Kenny Chan 1:1 means the object is the same size on the sensor as it really is, so I’d assume 1:2 means it is half the size as it really is.
ស្រលាញ់ការរៀបរាប់💕🌸
How much does it cost?
Hi Chris what do you think this lens compare to Samyang 18mm f2.8
Thanks
Not Chris, but I have the Samyang & I compared it along with the video 🤓:
- less native distortion, well corrected in camera.
- worse bokeh, much worse close focusing distance
- no LOCA (that I can see)!
- I can't complain about focusing speed; it's not lightning fast, but the lack of macro capability certainly helps.
- even lighter, sane barrel dimensions, a little cheaper.
All in all I'm VERY happy with the Samyang. For its main purpose of outdoor panoramic shots I find it sensational. It's so light and tiny that you can always have it with you.
@@r3dn0w Thanks for the info happy shooting
I was considering this lens for real estate photography...
Is the autofocus noisey?
Like the size and price, but that distortion killed it for me :-(
absolutely lost it at 1:19 😂
Looks like a fabulous place to shoot!! 🤪
Great shots as always. This lens may not be the best, but damn, a bad lens these days is still pretty darn good!
Damn the S1H is great for video 😱😍
"Damn, the sun is great for heat." 🙂
djelectric 😂
Some damn good work by the videographer as well.
And here I am using their 28mm 2.8 from 1975 :))
Nice one!! Hope it will come for FUJI :)
RIP DP REVIEW 😢😢😢😢 DONT LEAVE
Get some sleep Chris! With love!
My 28 75 tamron iii is nothing if you compair it with the sony 24 70 f4 not f2.8 that why i don t care to use tamron 20 lens
I like how it got jittery when he was drunk
I'd love to say that was a creative choice, but I just forgot to switch out of 60P.
@@thatjordandrake but it made me feel like what I feel when I am really drunk, guess whatever happens happens for a good reason🤣🥃🍻
These are lenses where fair compromises have been made for compactness and price.
You know it's cold when Chris is wearing a jacket outside. In the Canadian winter.. ;-P
One day a company (probably samyang) will give us a reasonably priced auto focusing 20mm f1.8 prime lens and they won’t charge extra for the letter “G”.
this locale is too scenic, picturesque, quaint, ... compared to the calibre of the lens being reviewed, it doesn't do justice to the "Eau Claire Distillery"
I think the Samyang 18mm f2.8 would be a better bet optically.
once again, the lens? meh. but the S1H video is delicious. seems you guys feel the same. too bad US Canada borders now closed. I was thinking of sneaking up there and stealing your S1H
Can a lens even have bouquet?
Nope but it can have bokeh! Pronounced the same way.
@@niccollsvideo No, it isn't.
@@thedondeluxe6941 A quick Google search on the origin of the word bokeh will clear anything up for you Don.
@@niccollsvideo Already know that. And how to pronounce it. One is "boʊkə", the other is "bukɛ". Unless you mean the lens is smelly, of course? :-)
Gee looks like board room suit guys said throw a lens together don't spend too much time on it...go get the enthusiasts...bigger market
I think you need to drink more to kill the contagion
wide angle macro is like using cell phone

Stop saying Bo-Kay, it's Bo-Ka, it's not an arrangement of flowers.
basically free booze :))
why could you just say...it is a bad lens....hihi
Wow you are a beautiful looking guy
I'll stick with my Laowa 15mm.
Ishan R Is it good for my sony a7iii or there us vetter
@@art4kuwait Yes, I have a Sony A7M3.

Prefer the 20mm f1.8 Sony.
Wow! What a disappointing lens. I was expecting more from a contemporary Tamron. Such an average to below average performance 😒
They aren't Sigma...
Veganpotter Thevegan Funny, when I worked at a large camera retailer in the 1980s, Tamron was considered the better quality choice.
@@danc3693 when I sold cameras in the late 90s, the turn was already years in. Sigma made eh lenses and Tamron was crap. Sigma's cheapo stuff rivaled kit lenses. Their pro line was somewhere in between the kit lenses and pro lenses for Nikon and Canon. But Sigma really does rival Nikon and Canon's pro lenses. Sometimes they're even better for a good +30% less money.
in short: tarsh.
In other words if you have the ability to get something else, don't ever buy tamron's sht
Use a Sony camera with eye detection for video, you have severel scenes out of focus...
I just don't get the photo of Jordan lying in the fetal position crying. It is kind of disturbing. Maybe it's time for a change of your banner photo? It really does not look professional.
Honestly quite disappointing lens.
Get the Samyang 18mm instead.
StereoTP95 is samyang or tokina good lens woth my a7
art4kuwait which generation is your Sony a7?
I would say that the samyangs got pretty good with autofocus, and a 16-20 mm prime is very useful, keeping the compactness of the mirrorless system.
Check out christopher frosts review of the samyang 18mm 2.8, its wayy better than this lens, for sure.
I have sony a7 iii / ziess batis 85 1.8 / tamron 28 75 2.8 iii / sony 55 1.8
Wear a mask plz
Why are you not wearing your mask? Why isn't the lens wearing a mask? Social distancing!!!
2.8? Fail sorry tamron
What exactly do you expect from a 20mm $350 lens? For almost three times the price you can add 1 & 1/3 stops of light gathering and some improved optics-but most people don’t need anything faster than f/2.8 on a wide lens, and tbh, most people don’t need (or even recognize) “optical perfection” in their real life photos, i.e. not their “test” photos. Also, this lens clearly wasn’t made for astro, if that’s what you were trying to get at. There are too many lenses, primes esp. that sell at the $1,200 and up. It’s nice to have a wide option that’s more than good enough and purchasable by hobbyists and amateur photogs.
@@tyroney2 People stuck on the widest aperture mindset just expose themselves as really amateur Picture takers.
Idk I'll take it. Being a 20 after all, it's mostly going to be used above 4-5.6. And its especially acceptable given its tiny size.
The only place it would matter is astro.
Not everyone has a 1000 dollars to spend on a lens. I will buy this for the budget price and finally acquire a wide angle lens.
Make an evening wedding and then let's see
