    I must commend you on explaining all your processes. I am retired as a welder from the Union Pacific R.R. bridge construction department. For 40 years my brother and i were like the swat team when they had a bridge emergency. Nice to see a fellow welder that takes pride in the work you do. Excellent Job.

      Eddie, with how big the U.P. has gotten, they must have had you and your brother zipping all over the system! Did you ever manage to get any time at home or have a quiet week?

      We have a lot of low railway bridges in Melbourne and over the years they have been protected by heavy duty protection beams. Even with warning signs trucks still hit the beams. Montague Street in South Melbourne is notorious for being struck in spite of all the warning signs and dangle fingers.

    Some issue could be the fact it's a D9 blade on a D10. Very easy to tell with the cushion blades, twin cushions are D9, tripple cushions D10 and 4 cushions D11.

    It has been a long time since I work on a cushen blade. I remember back in the day, replacing big giant rubber blocks mounted between the bump stops. That kept the blade from bottoming out on the spring rods. The style of the blade looks the same, but maybe things have changed. Great job on the repair, looks like they'll rip the floors out of the scapers before they tear up that repair!!!

    You are right about the force is towards the D10, compressing the springs and only goes the other way if pulling on something. But during normal use when the pusher D10 backs off and reconnects or changes speed or they hit uneven ground... the springs allow for that change in pressure. That change in pressure may still cause oil canning of your brackets/plate due to the compression spring's relaxing force. Not sure. Doesn't matter. Going back to my beer anyway. Good job as always.

    When i use to install root rakes, we welded a 1/2" plate onto what we believed was 1/4" plate behind the dozer blade. Then we welded the 1" thick brackets onto the 1/2" plate. Make sure to burn hot enough to fuse good.

      According to other commenters the blade is actually designed for a smaller machine with less power. Its on a d10 which is about a 600 hp crawler when it's designed for d9 which is about a 450 hp crawler.

    I would suggest removing the eyes from the top edges of the blade and providing something attached to the arms or low on the blade for them to attach to for pulling. You are correct that using this style of blade to pull with will cause it to fail.

    The bores look pooched. Excellent workmanship. I am retired from a large steel mill as a fabricator/welder within a machine/fab shop. First thing I noted is none of our workers would touch that until it was sand blasted, (Unionized Workers).
    Secondly, everything we touched had a pre and post NDE inspection. I never agreed with the insistence of sandblasting everything.

    Kind of curious why you used the wire you used. If you could explain I would be grateful. I am old school and used rod on most of my equipment repair. Mostly 7018. 6010 for tacking.
    My final note. I not sure why you did not paint it. The difference from a professional look and just a job. I know it will not change the true quality of your repair except the quality job you did will look like true proffessional work.
    PS I think you did a great job. I just would have painted. Have a blessed day.

    • @OFW
      @OFW  11 месяцев назад +1

      The wire I chose is almost exactly equivalent to 7018. I chose it because it’s stronger and faster. I was asked specifically to not paint it. I think so they can look for cracks.

I am retired now and had just started playing with plasma cutters before when I retired. They look like they make your work easier, but as with anything looks are deceiving. I am sure your experiance helped. Experiance does not happen over night. I liked your thought process on reinforcing it and how you did it. Great job.
