The Dad's conflict with his daughter in the Croods is also partially him realizing that he can't keep up with the changing world and has to rely on an outsider to take care of them which is terrifying. Guy isn't just taking care of Eep, he's taking care of the whole family.
What's a amusing of course is that no one at Blue Sky WROTE the Peanuts Movie. The Schulz family did. And they had Blue Sky do it on the condition the Shulz's picked the director, Steve Martino, Blue Sky's *only* good director. So yeah, Blue Sky can make a good movie provided they have as little artistic control over the story as possible. Otherwise we reliably get stuff like this. :)
Stop Bullshitting. Blue Sky does have have great directors like Chris Wedge and Carlos Saldana and great movies like Ice Age 1, Robots, Rio 1 and Spies In Disguise.
Belle and Maurice in the original animated Beauty and the Beast had a healthy daughter-father relationship. No pressuring into marriage or refusal of suitors, mutual respect for intelligence and ingenuity, and the only bouts of overprotectiveness were brought on by the introduction of a giant wolf-bear-lion-buffalo chimera with a bad temper. Tenzin was a great dad to all of his kids (unlike Triton, who only focused on the daughter that looked the most like his dead wife).
Well in my opinion of the 5 ice age movies: Ice Age 1: Good (But a true Classic) Ice Age 2 The Meltdown: Meh...a bit boring at parts Ice Age 3 Dawn of the Dinosaurs: Neutral, I totally like Buck! Ice Age 4 Contential Drift: Dull and but fine, Didn't even care about. Ice Age 5 Collision Course: REALLY HATED! I Didn't even ever care about this movie at all!
For me surprisingly 1st one: A classic. Simple as that! 2nd: I honestly forgot about it! 3rd: legit my favorite one because I LOOOOVE Buck as a character! 4th: oh yah. That's there. Buck had a small part I think but I didnt really watch it 5th: Buck. I liked it because Buck was in it again and I got to see more of him. Overall? I hope they make another and it's just all about Bucks backstory and him over coming his own issues and or just about BUCK. Hes generally a well written character in my opinion! But hey. Hes actually funny!
Uh.... Star vs the Forces of Evil had a pretty good father daughter relationship. Heck, King Butterfly is probably one of the best Dads I've ever seen. And Candace's Dad from Phineas and Ferb is pretty cool too. And Professor Utonium from the Power Puff Girls? I could probably think of more, but those are the ones off of the top of my head.
I like Stu Pickles. Although he invented fail products and argue with his brother, Drew. However, he cares about his family. Even The Rugrats Movie where he tell his son to be responsible to his little brother. I found Stu as the best father figure, while I found Slickis as pointless. I love all father characters in any Klasky-Csupo relate shows but Slickis.
Actually, River’s still really incompetent and childish and doesn’t give Star any advice besides “You’re strong, I believe in you.” He trashes Marco’s house and a lot of Earth when Moon kicked him out in season one, contributed almost nothing as king when his queen was gone and let the kingdom fall apart while partying to ignore his worry until Marco held his hand and told him the obvious. He was the king and he had to give a shit about responsibility. And then he did nothing but give his people an average speech, lead them to battle in kilts with a monster that wasn’t even attacking, and had his kingdom get taken over by rats. Led by Ludo, but still. And when Moon disappears again he dumps all the responsibilities of what to do against Meteora on his teenage daughter and doesn’t come up with anything other than to tell her she’s smart and he’ll support her, now tell everyone what to do. He’s the king and he’s basically utterly useless! I mean, he’s not abusive by any means and is definitely a nice dad, but I am so sick of dads doing the bare minimum of interaction and basic caring and having people go “INCREDIBLE! UNBELIEVABLE! RICHARD WATTERSON DOES SO MUCH NO ONE COULD HANDLE IT A+ DAD!!!” The bar should not be that low. Wives should not be dumped with all that work while lazy husbands get their feet kissed for the barest amount of occasional competence.
I am going to have to disagree with you that The Peanuts Movie was the first good Blue Sky film. Hate to disagree, but I have too. The first Ice Age had some quite hilarious dialogue and clever use of slapstick, the Rio movies had enough tearjerkers and great animation to hold their own and Robots made up for it's by the numbers story with detailed imagery, clever gags and also, like Rio, some tearjerkerry of it's own. Even when Blue Sky movies have dull stories, they at least have good animation. They could stand, however, to treat their employees better.
I'm gonna have to disagree with you on the first Ice Age film, Celly. I've always loved that movie. It's a shame literally every Blue Sky film between that and Peanuts was such a steep drop off.
I still adore the first Ice Age. Rather than having the bombastic stories with huge stakes and death-defying action scenes, the story was a lot more down to earth and personal. The three growing from each other was what made that movie for me- Manny and Diego really shined in the first film. And that scene with the cave paintings still makes me cry.
i was hoping ONE thing to happen in ANY of the ice age moves: *scene* the whole group is in Grave danger and can't defend themselves then THE KID THEY SAVED IN THE FIRST MOVIE SAVES THEM but no they had to make this crock of shit
It's like movie 2 is a reboot they keep nelly crash and eddy from now on in 5 they bring back Simion Peg from 3. Yet the baby is 100% forgotten about same with the Dodos and rhinos. While none of those characters will be in any top ten lists can you tell me anything about any one shot characters in any of the 4 sequels?
Give it credit to the 3rd one, at least it knows what it wants to be. Give it credit to the 4th one, as confusing as it is, at least I can watch it with my brain turned off. But this one, it just feels death for me. Heck, even close to the levels of Norm of the North. And yes, I literally take Ratchet and Clank over this, at least that one has it's own logic.
Maybe it's just me but it seems like the sequels, from what I've seen, forgets the first one even existed. I mean, in the Christmas special, Manny loses his daughter and you'd think he'd mention his dead family because of that but it's not brought up once!
Celly the Hell?!?! I'm watching this at 11 pm under my covers in the dark and you have to freak me out with that Joker clip at the end?!?!??! Why must you make me suffer?!?!!
I'm never watching collision course again never I'm sticking with first film ice age franchise fail part like dude it's dog shit it's worst then storks and cars 2 to me
But to me animation is okay and characters are okay but story was to me a little weak it wasn't funny for me like I didn't care for it storks is pretty bad for me In my opinion
I'm surprised over the fact that Blue sky forgot about Louis the molehog, Scratte, Fast Tony and heck, Roshan the baby from the first movie! If the creators could add so many characters in one movie, then why not adding them too? I could easily call this movie Ice age endgame if it had all characters from the franchise! (except dead ones)
What about Belle and her father, Mulan and her father, Jane and her father and Pocahontas and her father? They barely interact with their daughters love interest and are not dissaproving (well the first one and last one a little but that is before they know they are love interests and, you know for a food reason). And if you bring Korra what about Katara and Hakoda in Avatar? There are ton of other good father/daughter relationships if you think about it.
True, but with avatar, you also had Toph and her father, Who felt the need to baby her simply because she was blind, even though he saw her kick the crap out of at least 5 earthbenders. It kind of breaks even.
I still love the first two Ice Age, the third one is ok, the fourth is mediocre but I still like some elements, like Sid's grandma, and some plot elements, if the story was more different instead and Peaches was instead a child instead of a stupid generic teenage girl and there was something more going on with her and her mother it would have been ok, I hated the whole Peaches' story in that movie, one of the reason I didn't like it a lot, I'm bothered by that daughter-father cliché too
Professor Utonium was a great fatherly figure he really cared for the girls (mostly) and was willing to tell them when something was wrong, granted he did suffer from a few hiccups, but for the most part, he was great.
The Secret Life of Pets was really fun, it was more enjoyable than Dreamworks movies recently, at least the makers of Pets movie is better run than Dreamworks Animation.

I'm pretty sure this is how most people review the Ice Age Quintology (Or whatever you call that shit...): *Ice Age:* Pretty good. Not perfect, but not terrible. *Ice Age 2:* Completely lacks all the materials that made the first one enjoyable. *Ice Age 3:* This one was...was....Honestly, this one was okay...but that's probably just my opinion... *Ice Age 4:* Is Ice Age 2... *Ice Age 5:* This one shouldn't even exist.
what if there's the father/daughter relationship where the father is a total dweeb and hates his buff but actually reall I sweet future son-in-law because he reminder him too much of years being bullied.
I liked Ice Age as a kid, and the first movie is still a soft spot for me, but these movies have definitely gotten worse and worse as time has gone on. I wanted to bang my head against a wall when I found out there was going to be a fifth Ice Age movie. I didn't see this movie, as I knew it was going to suck, but reviews like this definitely show I didn't miss anything worthwhile. I really hope this is Blue Sky's last Ice Age movie.
It more than likely is not. Not only did BS express interest in making a 6th, but the fifth film, despite being the lowest grossing in the series, still made 200 dollars more than its budget. Now, personally, I think if they are going to keep making sequels, they should do a Rio 3 and Peanuts 2.
I'm not surprised by that. A company will do anything to milk a successful franchise until it's in its death throes. Even if that franchise has become a decaying zombie of nothingness.
My sister had a gamecube game that is a game about ice age and we still have the game the game is called ice age 2 the melt down and I give Metroid the other m a 9.5/10.
It feels to me like most American Hollywood movies nowadays are only supposed to be simple entertainment that you wont really remember or think about much afterwards so its sure not only the Ice Age movies that are like that.
What about Princess And The Frog Tiana's got her to want to live her dream and even the reason she would to cook to be fair yes he die but the we had Lonnie's (I think that's her name) dad Big Daddy (*laughing and cringing at the name*) he was rich and gave his the daughter the life that all good dads want their little girls to have the princess life, he just did it to much so she did grow as well as Tiana to be a independent grown woman!
I agree that Ice Age is a time filler. One day I was home sick and couldn't move, and the only thing on was all the Ice Age movies. that was the most boring day of my life.
ive always liked the first movie, but when I first saw the trailer for this I was almost legitly expecting it to be a parody of franchises that have too much sequels. Thanks for the concise and good review! and also the dp mention
To me, all of the Ice Age movies should've ended after the second one. Give Manny some more time to think about Ellie, maybe address the fact that he already had a family before the first movie and lost them, give the relationship some weight besides "They're the last mammoths or so it would seem" and you're done. I admit that the first one was bearable, but even the second one could've not existed.
Cellspex i love your bids and really wished you uploaded more but i get it you have lots to do other than youtube keep up the good work and remember that your awesome
I don't have much to say, except that i know one fictional father/daughter relationship that is actually pretty swell. It's from a video game, though, and the father doesn't often appear or get mentioned, but when he does, he seems to be an awesome guy. I am, of course, talking about Gaige the Mechromancer from Borderlands 2 and her dad.
man I'd love to see neil watch this, he'd probably just have his face in his hands the whole way through. humans, dinorsaurs and ice age mammals living together, mass hysteria
Me and my brother have always loved the Ice Age movies. If we had to do movie nights it was either Barbie, Thomas, Dinosaur or Ice Age. I love the first 3 Ice Ages, but I'm not too sure on the 4th or 5th one. It kind of felt like they were just doing it for cash at that point. (Soley cash, studios only ever do sequels based off the first's success, lets face it, but at least if its only a sequel they actually try.)
7:11 NO! Cell I'm going to stop you right there no You can't get silly humor from Teen Titans go all you can get from that show is your humanity and Empathy and good will sucked away out of you! It's like Family Guy that way! Strange Magic might be a better contender for that.
Cell, there's a father-daughter relationship that's genuinly charming and funny. It's from Borderlands 2, though, and the dynamic is mostly explored through teaser for the character Gaige.
Count Dracula in Hotel Transylvania had justifications in the first movie: he doesn't want his daughter to get hurt/killed by the outside world, not just for his own sake.
Nice review, even thou I didn't bother to see any of these 2. And certainly I want to know your opinion in The Killing Joke, knowing how mixed are all the opinions about that right now
Out of those two films I've only seen Secret Life of Pets, and I think I would've enjoyed it a second time more than Collision Course. Nice to have Buck back though, he was the best thing in Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
The Dad's conflict with his daughter in the Croods is also partially him realizing that he can't keep up with the changing world and has to rely on an outsider to take care of them which is terrifying. Guy isn't just taking care of Eep, he's taking care of the whole family.

***** Nice. Okay I guess there was ONE exception to my statement then if you go back back back to their very first movie.
spies in disguise, rio, and the first ice age are all very good movies made by BlueSky with consistent directorial power.
Didn’t Martino co-direct ice age 4?
Stop Bullshitting. Blue Sky does have have great directors like Chris Wedge and Carlos Saldana and great movies like Ice Age 1, Robots, Rio 1 and Spies In Disguise.

I agree.
They are a good family relationship it's just one we barely see considering the premise of the movie.
Yeeeah a healthy relationship. Something that the original fairytale lacked
1st ice age: Good
2nd one: Meh/forgettable
3rd one: Buck is the best part
4th: My fave because Greek Mythology
5th: I didn't even bother

Lol I like how even Dr Doofinshmitz on F & F seems to be at least a good father (or tries to be anyway)
Someone random That's true. And he doesn't keep his daughter a virgin locked up in his basement. He actually encouraged her crush.
Also, Mulan and her father. Like they had such a good relationship, and no one ever acknowledges it.

I know it's not a film, but Bioshock 2 has an excellent Father-Daughter relationship where they're completely co-dependent and caring for one-another.
Ill count it!
There's also Rugrats, Hey Arnold!, Bob's Burgers, and (to an extent) Ponyo.

The 3rd one (Dawn of the Dinosaurs) was the only one I liked. It stands alone perfectly, and it's funny, IMHO. The others are completely forgettable.
The First Ice Age is great and y’all are being too harsh.
hey! ten things i hate about you was pure gold!
ive always liked the first movie, but when I first saw the trailer for this I was almost legitly expecting it to be a parody of franchises that have too much sequels. Thanks for the concise and good review! and also the dp mention
Best ending to a review EVER!
Oh I feel so sorry for you Cellspeks. I mean you actually had high hopes for the killing joke. I’m so sorry.
You do have to admit, that one scene with Hughes being an over protective father in Brotherhood is really funny
Hey, a new reaction graphic! I like it!
Less then an hour since its upload and already 1,828 views - GREAT JOB CellSpex!
Your laugh is fantastic
Cellspex i love your bids and really wished you uploaded more but i get it you have lots to do other than youtube keep up the good work and remember that your awesome
2:41 a very rare sight of the chewbacca cellspex
Shrek has by far the best father-daughter relationship in movie history.
I’m writing a story where the Father and Daughter have a very strong bond with each other.
I can't wait to see Celly's response to THAT scene in Killing Joke.
YES! At last someone understands that the squirrel has to disappear!
Are you also gonna review Kubo and the Two Strings as well?
0:30 Yeah, HOW have you not done an Epic review?
It's a genuinely great film!
I love the first Ice Age movie, and the second one was also pretty good
I don't have much to say, except that i know one fictional father/daughter relationship that is actually pretty swell.
Love your intro jingle
7:11 NO! Cell I'm going to stop you right there no You can't get silly humor from Teen Titans go all you can get from that show is your humanity and Empathy and good will sucked away out of you! It's like Family Guy that way! Strange Magic might be a better contender for that.
I like your content and character.
Tiana's dad got fridged but he was great and they were adorable.
4:53 Blue sky actually did that with Rio 2
I loved the Ice age series. As, the dubbing in Norwegian is awsome. In my mind and my dad's mind. And Just found it awsome.
1st: Good Movie
2nd: P okay I guess
3rd: My Animated guilty pleasure
4th: Bad
5th: Haven’t Seen it and probably never will
I really like the first and third Ice Age movies
And that scene in the second when some vultures sing a parody of “Food” from “Oliver”
i was so pleased they brought buck back
0:10 I’ll have you know that robots was an instant classic
Ice age 2 is always gonna be my favourite ice age movie
Cell, there's a father-daughter relationship that's genuinly charming and funny. It's from Borderlands 2, though, and the dynamic is mostly explored through teaser for the character Gaige.
Count Dracula in Hotel Transylvania had justifications in the first movie: he doesn't want his daughter to get hurt/killed by the outside world, not just for his own sake.
omg double review
more please :3
There is the dynamic between the father and daughter in Sweetness and Lightning, a currently airing anime
For the airplane entertainment part, what if the other options was “strange magic” or “norm of the north”
it will be great if they brought back roshan the baby from the first one as an adult then have a reunion with sid, diego, and manny
I love the first two movies of this series. They are classics.
Blue sky has 2 of the best franchises of my childhood
Dont forget about Kubo and the Two Strings I'm really looking forward to your view on that since I'm always entertained by your reviews
This was uploaded on my 8th birthday
finds out new details about killing joke: "CURSE YOU BRUCE TIM! CURSE YOOOOOOOOOOOOU!"
"Oh Mr blue sky please tell us why"
Love the REM!!!
My Collision Course Review: When is Kubo & the Two Strings coming out?
