Poppy's song "Get Back up Again" and the popular "Can't Stop the Feeling" are both originally for Trolls. One got released to the public before the other, for advertisement.
Wandamian Crucifixplate I know right? I laughed for a minute until I realised he was serious. I guess they didn’t want to pull a Disney and kill off the parents 😏
This has pretty much been the year of "Animated Films That Look Awful From their Trailers But Turn Out To Be Not Bad:" Zootopia, Kung Fu Panda 3, Storks, Sausage Party, and now this.
The G-Wing In my opinion, Zootopia had *terrible* marketing where I come from, since the trailers largely played up "They're animals who act just like humans! They dance, text and take selfies!" while completely neglecting to mention anything about the actual plot (Judy's dream to be a police officer, the missing Mammals case, the big message about prejudice and harmful stereotypes, etc.).
WinterWolfStudios 0 i think the issue is that they only showed that one scene with the sloths, and didn’t really mention any main plot points or at least a basic plot.
How the frick do you only have 25,000 subscribers? Your writing, attitude, and points you bring up to back up your opinion are probably some of the best on this website. Seriously, your videos are 3 times more intriguing and entertaining than probably every other animation critic on this site COMBINED. I love channels like LewToons, Animat, and SaberSpark, but my gosh sometimes it feels like their videos are just dragging and dragging and it feels like they are marking movies down for really dull and confusing reasons, while your videos are the ones that have me coming back to watch them multiple times, plus you actually know what you are talking about most of the time and you don't let anyone else's opinion affect your own. Seriously, you need more subscribers, at least 8 times the amount you already have.
***** Actually, I never minded Rebeltaxi. Sure he not nearly as serious about things, but he uses it to his advantage when making entertaining content, plus he knows a lot of different shows and movies to reference back to, more than probably anyone else I've seen, so at least I know that he has a general understanding of things. Also he does have lots of good looks and styles for his videos, so that's also a plus. He gets a pass in my book.
Nicholas Leavitt Agreed. EyeofSol is also a good animation critic and I like AniMat. I actually unsubscribed LewToons the other day because in his "Boss Baby" review, he put it above "The LEGO Batman Movie", and last year, he put "The Angry Birds Movie", "The Secret Life of Pets", "Storks", "Sausage Party", "Finding Dory", and "Trolls" above "Sing", one of my favorite animated films of last year. WTF?! Don't get me wrong; "The Secret Life of Pets" and "Trolls" were good, but he shouldn't have rated them THAT high.
This movie is literally the stereotypical child personality I honesty thought this movie was trash but I mean I’m not a little kid so I’m the target audience
Things I like about Trolls - The art style. Everything in the movie, most notably the forest, is styled like a children's book. I especially love the designs of all the forest animals and monsters. It's a really cool stylistic choice and it was pretty much the main reason I decided to watch the movie in the first place. - The surprisingly dark comedy. This movie actually has quite a bit of black comedy but it's kept in check by the movie's optimistic tone. I think the best representation of that is the song "Get Back Up Again". Hearing the song on its own, you'd think it's just another happy, "never give up" song but in the movie, Poppy actually sings it as she's going through absolute *Hell*. I mean, in the space of that song, she's actually eaten on like three separate occasions. The contrast is hilarious. And of course, there's that scene where Branch, in a blind panic, crashes a funeral and does a table flip on the *casket*, *causing the corpse to tumble out.* - The music. Pop music in animated movies tends to get a lot of flack, which is understandable, but I will say that Trolls uses pop music better than most movies. The use of pop songs fits the overall tone of the movie, and the songs actually match what's going on in the film at the moment. They also change up some lyrics in the pop songs so that they fit the universe a little better. The main issue with pop songs in animated movies is that they tend to distract you and break your immersion in the movie's universe. But Trolls actually manages to meld the two together so that the songs don't feel too out of place or jarring.
findingbuglantis I love everything about this movie it’s about depression and not using drugs to make yourself happy I also love the backgrounds they are amazing
The soundtrack for Trolls, especially Clint Eastwood was a horrible fit. Most of these songs were absolutely ruined for me and it's kinda sad Personally Feel Good Inc. would've been a better fit to replace Clint Eastwood. The music is... meh to horrible.
Spoilers! I remember people shushing me in the theater during the "Singing killed my grandma" bit cuz I was laughing SO HARD. I felt bad but I couldn't help it!
You just made me realize that I'd love to see an animated Shantae movie. The games always do kind of play out like an animated film Make it happen, somebody!
plucas1 you sir/ma'am, are a genius. I would love to see a Shantae movie! (As long as it's good) I mean heck if Ratchet and Clank and Slay Cooper can get movies, I'm sure Shantae can get one. Speaking of, anyone got any updates on the progress of the Sly Cooper movie?
You see the problem is they already own a streaming service exclusive to Disney contents. If Disney owns Netflix and become bias by a single bit, other studios like Universal (of course also Illumination and DWA), Fox, WB, Paramount, Sony, and even Lionsgate are able to stand and start another streaming service and Netflix may end up getting eliminated like how it killed blockbuster. If Netflix ever gets acquired, someone like AT&T, Verizon, Amazon or Google or even Microsoft and Samsung fit more as its parent company
I really hope Disney don't buy Netflix because I adore Race to the edge and Voltron Legendary defender and having Disney owning Netflix might affect them.
Removing Bojack be hypocritical as their Marvel Netflix shows are as mature so if they removed it they have to remove those shows too along with every R rated movie and adult like tv shows the site has which will cause them to lose half or more of their subscribers to sites like Hulu since not every late teen and adult will watch stuff that cater to the young crowd.
I still think Trolls may go down in history as the single worst trailer ever made for an animated movie. A prestigious title Dreamworks can add to their collection.
Trolls is one of those movies that proofs you shouldn't judge a movie based on the first alone: looking at you overprotective parents who saw the Cars 3 trailer!
I hate that most western animated movies and TV shows is only about comedy nowadays. There is usually one short part where the characters get sad over something but most of the movies is just about being funny and its also very annoying that all western animated movies must be CGI nowadays.

My son absolutely loves this movie! And I love watching it with him. One of the only movies we'll watch together where he dances, sings and laughs the whole time 😊
This movie is decent The animation is beautiful Characters were ok but voice acting was great Story wasnt anything new and sometimes generic and predictable But there were still good moments
Cell's thing against Dreamworld adds so much fun to her reviews, and I love how fun yet formal her reviews are. On short terms THEY GIVE ME LIFE. Keep being awesome Cell
When I first saw that I was this early to see a video (6 minutes to be exact), I was so shocked that I gasped and accidentally swallowed my chewing gum. And you know something's wrong when the rip-off of the boxtrolls have a bigger role in their movie than the original boxtrolls had in their own
I meant that by the fact that Cellspex said that the burgin things looked like the boxtrolls and it's strange that they have a bigger role in their movie than the boxtrolls have in theirs
Eh. At least in the holiday short and the second movie, Branch's character was still consistent. He still lived by himself, and doesn't show any signs of disliking that, and while he did enjoy singing and dancing more, he was still very pragmatic and thought things out. He's mostly the reason I like the movie.
without watching this review or even the movie, I'm gonna assume that the Trolls movie was a garbage attempt to make money off its modern soundtrack and bullshit celebrity voice "talent".
In my opinion it was pretty good. Even though I saw it 3 months after its release date and only because my cousin had a party themed after it. It wasn't as bad as I thought, and I actually enjoyed it
Omg I love your videos and you deserve more subs! I read a Tumblr post about how a rare few reviewers are actually nice to the movies, give reasons as to why they say what they do, and give positive points. I just binged a couple of your reviews and so far I believe you are a great role model for reviewers everywhere! You show the positive points to every movie review I've seen so far, you have reasons for what you say, and are nice to the movies! You know that people worked hard on this and I love that. Congratulations, you're doing something right!
I hate Disney. Mainly because they can get away with copying things and such. And when people see the original, they will automatically think that it copied Disney. And I'm still pissed about that whole Oscar deal with HTTYD. Dragons 2 should have won that. But nope. People have to kiss ass, and keep Disney famous.
When has Disney blatantly copied another company? They may draw inspiration but they never fail to make it their own unique premise. DreamWorks on the other hand is a company fuelled by revenge and hate for Disney and as such just don't seem to put much love into any of their movies. Their main goal seems to be beating Disney at the box office rather than creating memorable and charming stories.
I would recommend the Netflix series Trolls: The Beat Goes On. It really fleshes out the entire cast and surprisingly adds even more enjoyable side characters. Yeah it's silly as all hell but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
I agree with your review of this movie, CellSpex. I watched this movie the other day and it wasn't that bad. Was it great? No, but it was watchable (Like you said, the trailers for this movie made it seem worse than it actually is.).
I gotta admit, every time Smidge went *"OH MY GOD."* in his particular baritone, I laughed; they didn't squeeze it too much. But yeah, this was another movie time with the kiddies where I was initially sitting there like so much Timberlake-voiced Branch, not having any of it, but hey.. its cute, colorful, the travel montage song was chirpy and had some KILLER Rayman-style environments, and yeah! Poppy's usual brand of enthusiasm was wobbly, but technically balanced. She'd kill with kindness, not disembowel with it. Couldn't stand all the singing otherwise, and I feel like there's a vestigial part of the story in there, but it was character driven and tasty to the eye; the usual nail you knock on the head~ ..no, but seriously, *OH MY GOD.* hee hee!
Everyone else: *stops liking Zootopia and gets more into Trolls* Me: wait wat? have u all lost yo freakn minds? Nothing wrong with liking Trolls more then Zootopia, though. I just don't get how it's better TO ME. Zootopia had a better story, better character development, better backstories, and was better to me in general.
Yes, thank you for giving me a heart attack in the first ten seconds for thinking that my $500 headphones were broken. Besides that, I love this review!
I’m not gonna lie.... I actually cried a little during Branch’s backstory. I think it was the combination of a little kid screaming for his grandma as she’s being taken away to be eaten and her screams while being taken away AND not to mention Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse of the heart always tugs at my heart strings, that scene just somehow made me cry.
You have no idea how happy I am that this film wasn't as bad as previously estimated! Though I didn't get most of the song references, I still found it quite enjoyable. Especially with how they touched on PTSD without making it look dumb or trivial. I'm glad you thought it was passable too!
Watches trolls movie, sees a clip where the bad guys sang a part of Clint Eastwood by the Gorillaz, instantly questioned what little kid watching this movie would even know that song, was depressed for the rest of the day because I was that confused
and i remember i had those good luck trolls when i was young passed on to me from my mom and from my grandma passed to my mom to me its pretty cool i do still have them somewhere in the garage
Movie's intended for kids has now become a stereotype. It's like a 3 steps on creating a kid's movie for dummies! 1.) Twerking 2.) References 3.) Memes CONGRATULATIONS YOU GOT A KID'S MOVIE!
I'm super fuckin late as hell, but I recently watched the movie for the first time, and it was waaay better than I thought it was going to be. The movie looks so beautiful and I liked the message tbh. That happiness is something you can have in dark times if you rely and trust your friends and partners. I thought the whole Bridgete and Gristle romance thing was super weird though. I honestly thought that a different kind of date would have worked better for them, since the whole roller blade thing just confused the hell out of me. But I loved Branch and Poppy's interactions. I thought they were perfect. Also, I was pretty suprised when I saw that it actually has a dedicated fandom. Can't say I blame em. I love the movie. Not a masterpiece by any means, but it's charming and fun and sweet and that's all that matters to me.
8:10 I actually believe that since trolls are really old toys, they also wanted to use really old songs. All except Can't Stop The Feeling and Get Back Up Again were hits from 70's and 80's!!! And I loved it!!!!
I actually enjoy a lot the movie, I love the style, that everything looked fluffy, colorful and like a children book in contrast with the Bergens sad gray world, rendering is very complicated and expensive, so I appreciate the effort to work so hard in the textures. I didn´t mind the songs, they had meaning, on point and not out of place. I like the story, the romance between the King and the Servant, and the idea that you should not use or ¨consume¨ other people to be happy. And what I loved is that the world made sense in its own way, everything was explained and respected its own rules, not like Storks where for some reason the birds had a weird alien baby making machine, like how and why? Or that movie Home, with the purple alien where an invading alien race kidnapped everybody, put them in somewhere and then were forgiven just like that at the end of the movie. And let´s not talk about Baby Boss, because that movie made no sense whatsoever. So at least Trolls made sense in its own fairy tale way and it was a fun musical.
10:30 Well....I'm honestly glad that Disney didn't buy Netflix afterall and instead just made their own streaming service. I say that was honestly a much better alternative cause I really don't want Disney to own literally everything
These are the kinds of movies I’m scared of because my family is way less critical. Plus when I try to criticize movies like these afterwards I get straight up dirty looks. Any movie that has the line “SINGING KILLED MY GRANDMA OKAY?!” Is not a cinematic masterpiece
To be fair, that marketing style of attempting to subvert expectations that Trolls used isn't new. It's been used a bit, my favorite being with Spec Ops: The Line.
I'm going to be honest, if the HIP AND WITH IT elements were cut out of the movie, it would be a solid 6/10, maybe 6.5/10 if I'm being honest. It's creative, and some of the action scenes and jokes were actually pretty good!
I only had one promblem with Trolls, okay just one BIG promblem. I felt it was trying to shove happiness down our throats and got rid of the only relatable character (in my opinion). Branch mirrored me in the universe as an unhappy person. Branch was the introvert which I am. The fact they made him back into and extrovert almost murdered my tolerance for the movie. They took the introvert and made him and extrovert like the rest. I felt like they were attacking me on the fact I felt comfortable alone and wasn't social. I can't be the only one with a promblem about this.
GalaxyRaven64 of Wattpad true. I hope dream works is smart enough to still make branch have a personality. I hope he's still introverted and anxious. I'd be very disappointed if they made him just like everyone else.
Poppy's song "Get Back up Again" and the popular "Can't Stop the Feeling" are both originally for Trolls. One got released to the public before the other, for advertisement.
Purple Poet11 When I read Poppy I thought you were talking about the weird blonde girl

I feel like this movie was only made for the song or the other way around. Just so dumb.

cyber defender I don't think people should feel that way. A good movie is a good movie.
My son absolutely loves this movie! And I love watching it with him. One of the only movies we'll watch together where he dances, sings and laughs the whole time 😊
SINGING KILLED MY GRANDMA
This movie is decent
The animation is beautiful
Characters were ok
but voice acting was great
Story wasnt anything new and sometimes generic and predictable
But there were still good moments
I kinda liked this movie, but then I remembered they used a Gorillaz song that didn't fit AT ALL with the Bergens, so... yeah.
It wasn't as bad as I thought, and I actually enjoyed it
APH Prussia
I know right! I watched the pirated version which is only 20 pesos, and it is pretty good! No really, it is good.
although the advertising was..something, I kinda liked it.
Trolls is still my favourite movie, the true colours scene made it all for me.
Same here
9:15
"Because honestly given the choice between the two, I think I'd rather see trolls a second time"
Me: "We are going to see trolls a second time!"
This movie was ruined when they used Clint eastwood. Don't even try and ruin Gorillaz for me Dreamworks...
I don't understand how one song can ruin an entire movie, or how a movie can ruin an entire band?!
@@mullisaukko423
HAVE YOU LISTENED TO IT AT ALL?
I HAVE?! IT WAS BAD BUT IT WAS PROBABLY A GODDAMN 2 MINUTES LONG CLIP Y'KNOW :D IT CAN'T RUIN AN ENTIRE MOVIE OR A BAND
@@mullisaukko423 Are you actually defending that scene? I would be appalled but I'm just saddened on your behalf.
No?! I just can't understand how a TWO MINUTES long scene can ruin an entire band or something?! TWO?! MINUTES?!
Disney also affected the copyright as to keep The Mouse theirs. Now nothing is gonna be released from copyright for another tenish years.
cyber defender
The first thing to be free of copyright will escape its corporate grasp in 2019. At least it's here sooner?
When has Disney blatantly copied another company? They may draw inspiration but they never fail to make it their own unique premise. DreamWorks on the other hand is a company fuelled by revenge and hate for Disney and as such just don't seem to put much love into any of their movies. Their main goal seems to be beating Disney at the box office rather than creating memorable and charming stories.
Apocolypse Hope maybe not copying another company, but they have copied things. lion king-kimba the white lion.
I'm pretty sure The Lion King was inspired by Shakespeare's Hamlet not Kimba.
I would recommend the Netflix series Trolls: The Beat Goes On. It really fleshes out the entire cast and surprisingly adds even more enjoyable side characters. Yeah it's silly as all hell but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
The intro scared me! I can't break another pair of headphones!
AGREED AHH i have cats and you just never know
I agree with your review of this movie, CellSpex. I watched this movie the other day and it wasn't that bad. Was it great? No, but it was watchable (Like you said, the trailers for this movie made it seem worse than it actually is.).
Holy shit, k just found out there's a fucking *EMOJI* movie. Cell's going to have a field day
at least it'll be fun for us!
Can't wait for it to come out so i can watch all of the rant videos about it.
6:24 I will never look at Attack on Titan the same way again...
Even this movie is better
“SINGING KILLED MY GRANDMA” I choked on my tea 😂
I swear the only reason this movie made so much money is that damn catchy Justin Timberlake song
Couldn't stand all the singing otherwise, and I feel like there's a vestigial part of the story in there, but it was character driven and tasty to the eye; the usual nail you knock on the head~
..no, but seriously, *OH MY GOD.*
hee hee!
WHY DOES THE INTRO ONLY COME THROUGH ONE EAR BUD!!!
YOU GAVE ME A HECKIN HEART ATTACK
I FREAKED OUT
Everyone else: *stops liking Zootopia and gets more into Trolls*
Me: wait wat? have u all lost yo freakn minds?
Nothing wrong with liking Trolls more then Zootopia, though. I just don't get how it's better TO ME. Zootopia had a better story, better character development, better backstories, and was better to me in general.
@10:03 LOL holy shit! That was an experience, I love how you reacted to that. It made my night! Love your channel, thank you for making videos!
Is there something up with the video's audio?
Yes, thank you for giving me a heart attack in the first ten seconds for thinking that my $500 headphones were broken. Besides that, I love this review!
Well, 2 years later and we're getting a sequel.
I consider this to be the best non KFP Dreamworks movie ever.
Ainsley Felds I only saw the first one, and yes.
The trolls are just like the smurfs just imagine the characters look the same
Okay, 'hair up' is my least favorite song so far.
Me: did you watch the sequel
I didnt even know those Dreamworks netflix series, the ones I acknowledged is HTTYD and Peabody. The latter looks pretty. Disney please dont do this
squared the trolls show forced way to many songs down your throats as well which ruins it
CellSpex can you review Hey Arnold The Movie and Teen Titans Trouble In Tokyo as well as Phineas and Ferb Across The Second Dimension.
Elsa: let it goooo
Branch: you killed my grandma
Lol good one
You have no idea how happy I am that this film wasn't as bad as previously estimated!
Though I didn't get most of the song references, I still found it quite enjoyable. Especially with how they touched on PTSD without making it look dumb or trivial.
I'm glad you thought it was passable too!
Anna Kendrick has voiced acted before though. She was the sister in Paranorman. :D
8:30
**laughs in Trollhunters voice actors**
YOU'RE SUBBED TO BLACK NERD!?!? YAS!!
Your picture is soooo cute!
Thx :)
"You wanna get high?" "Sure"
Watches trolls movie, sees a clip where the bad guys sang a part of Clint Eastwood by the Gorillaz, instantly questioned what little kid watching this movie would even know that song, was depressed for the rest of the day because I was that confused
and i remember i had those good luck trolls when i was young passed on to me from my mom and from my grandma passed to my mom to me its pretty cool i do still have them somewhere in the garage
There was a Christmas trolls thingy during thanksgiving. Me and my 16 year old cousin just ran upstairs and stayed in bed.
The Homestuck movie looks great so far.
Please talk about the Cars 3 trailer.
'Branch isn't such a stick in the mud.'
Yeah, he's a branch in the mud ;)
As I clicked on this, an ad for "Trolls World Tour" started.
you can tell if it’s gonna be good or bad just looking at the expressions on the thumbnails lmaooo i love it
To quote Mel Brooks; "Merchandising, that's where the real money is!"
G'day Cellspex, I just found the official trailer for Trolls World Tour a week ago and I was so excited for it!
Movie's intended for kids has now become a stereotype. It's like a 3 steps on creating a kid's movie for dummies!
1.) Twerking
2.) References
3.) Memes
CONGRATULATIONS YOU GOT A KID'S MOVIE!
Yea' lets hope this trend ends, and fast.
cleonumber1 YEAH! KILL IT WITH FIYAAAR
The first two songs were covers: September by earth wind and fire, and move your hair is a parody of Move your feet by junior senior
My left ear loves the intro.
And i just kicked my plug that gives power to my screen. Great
i accually really liked this movie it was really up beat and happy but it was dramatic at times and the right time, i would say its my favoret movie
I think I died when they started singing "hello darkness my old friend"
I love the descriptions on your videos
8:10 I actually believe that since trolls are really old toys, they also wanted to use really old songs. All except Can't Stop The Feeling and Get Back Up Again were hits from 70's and 80's!!! And I loved it!!!!
My right ear enjoyed that beginning
Surprised you didn't mention that awesome Gorillaz nod
5:38 or branch in the mud hahaha ha ha....
Help me
It didn’t just kill that grandma.
*IT KILLED ME TOO*
