Bartok the Magnificent. The feature-length, direct-to-video spin-off that became just a mere bonus feature on the Anastasia Family Fun Edition DVD...despite being it, too, directed by Don Bluth.
It’s not their own series. They brutally murdered blue sky (the original creators) and decided to go back and try to milk this long-dead cow for more money. . . And they did terribly at it
Remember how in Coco, Ernesto killed Hector so he could steal his songs? Disney just did the same thing with Blue Sky Studios, just with their movies instead.

This movie is a complete and absolute embarrassment to the previous five. Yes, even _Collision Course_ was better. The only good thing about it is more Simon Pegg as Buck. The animation makes this look like a PS3 cutscene, the humor is awful, the new characters suck, and worst of all, NO SCRAT! It's no wonder why almost none of the original voice actors returned. Disney did this franchise such an enormous injustice.
I was a huge fan of Crash and Eddie, and Buck. I was legitimately excited when they announced this! Unfortunately the second I saw the horrible animation I knew my dreams would be crushed. I must add, the spin offs specials had better animation.
Honestly, with the right people, an Ice Age movie just with Buck and no other characters from Ice Age, that could work, like how Puss in Boots kinda works as a spin off yet has no Shrek characters in it other than Puss
One problem with the movie I'm surprised you didn't mention is that the animals and plants in the underworld are way less intimidating in design than in Dawn of the Dinosaurs. For example, remember the legitimately terrifying horde of velociraptors that attack the main cast at the Plate of Woe? Or that giant venus flytrap that almost ate Manny and Diego? And Rudy, of course. They were all scary, at least when I was a young kid watching it for the first time. In this film however, Buck's green pterodactyl looks like a children's toy come to life. And all the other dinos look just as goofy. Also, Orson is not the first talking dinosaur they've met. Remember the "antagonists" of Collision Course?
and they removed the best part of buck thats was him being completly nuts, im not sure if theres some of that in the movie, but in the clips he showed he is just so bland

Hotel Transylvania has been made the same since 2012, well cause its studio didn't go out of business. It really has had a mixed reception for a long time.
*sigh* We’ve really come to this, haven’t we? This movie is so bad it reminds me of the ending of “The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3” episode 11: “Oh Brother” (the worst episode, even by TAOSMB3 standards) when the Mario Bros. themselves argued about whose fault it was that they got into a petty feud at the start of the episode.
Come to think of it, after watching the worst of the worst, they really do (granted, the original will always be the best, but despite their flaws, one thing that will keep them afloat would have to be that the animation of these movies are far better than they have every right to be. Conceptually and execution-wise in the hand-drawn world of Don Bluth dinosaurs!)
Much like Peaches where the hell was Rudy? He was the largest predator feared by every dinosaur which Buck lost his eye to and got his tooth knife from breaking one of Rudy's teeth. We know he was still alive and was ridden by Buck in the other movies. So why wasn't he in this movie like Mamma Rex. And on that note where were the babies, I would expect them to be older now. None of the larger predator characters associated with the lost world neve show up which would have made the climax even cooler.
What I always mind the most is that as soon as it's not a feature length movie, their animation quality instantly drops by 60%. If you already have to make a series at least be consistent with animation.
The Ice Age 3 Wii game did a better job with a story than this! Granted, it's integrated with the story of the movie, but the added scenes aren't half bad. Idk if they got the original VAs for that, but if they're not, they're leagues better replacements than those!
Does Disney not realize that the Ice Age franchise used to make Shrek money? To bring it back with a cheap Disney+ spin-off instead of what DreamWorks is doing with the Shrek / Puss in Boots franchise is a major misfire.
Man, Buck getting the Puss in Boots 2 treatment would be AWESOME. If the writers and animators of this movie were given more time, money, resources, and set aside the Herd to just focus on Buck as well a few better-written brand new characters, I think we could've gotten some great fun. Nothing masterful, but definitely a fun and cool adventure starring the best Ice Age character. But no. We got this pile of dino droppings that just HAD to give those two asshole opossums more screen time because we can't have nice things.
Something I noticed with the animation too is that it's not nearly as exaggerated. When Sid would run and scream, his arms were rubber banding and flailing, almost like an old fashioned cartoon. Not anywhere as close as Spinel, but it was more fluid and fun than this. The mammoths were slow, but still fluid. The possums were quick and all over the place but moving in a minky and natural way. Sid was...Sid haha but this animation is just so rigid and janky, it's restricted to a 2 inch box and it feels like it. I hate it, honestly.
The thing that really pissed me off about this movie, is how it seems to be entirely missing out on the chronology of the original series. Like, they did not even bother to mention Peaches or what happened to her. It's like the events of the five movies is just completely nonexistent.
@@crimsongold6980 no, it's like she does not even exist to begin with. And they completely forgot about the line left by the fifth movie, you know, the one about her and Diego wanting cubs of their own.
Who does Disney even think they are? They just shut down a childhood animation company who made all the original Ice Age films that surprisingly hold up today (despite the 4th and 5th one being considered less successful) then make another one themselves and turn it into something horrible and disrespectful to the original creators😠 They just don’t know when to stop, do they?
*My thoughts on the Ice Ages* Ice Age - Definitely flawed, but the story in this movie is even better than the movie itself! (Could’ve been better, but otherwise, not bad!) The Meltdown - The first time the Ice Age franchise melted down (second if you count the video game version of the original limited to the GBA. Power to those that like the original whether it be the movie or the game, but while (like I said) I found the movie to be decent, I find the game more nostalgic (plus it does go for more pleasing looks for the characters in 32-bit 2D form because of the graphics in that game) than objectively well-made), but in a way (or few), it does work. As a video game (and as a short “No Time for Nuts”), much to pleasant surprise. Dawn of the Dinosaurs - The best Ice Age (and the best Blue Sky film! The Peanuts Movie, Robots, Rio and Spies in Disguise come closest.), and as for the game, well, with a good movie can sometimes come a good game like this which is a better remake for Ice Age 3 than TIAAOBW ever will be! Continental Drift - Where the franchise became broken beyond repair. Collision Course - Outside of the batshit insanity of the Scrat scenes in the first five movies, this is just too much cliched blandness to like (re: the “Anyone can find true love, even the most hatable of idiots who deserve death more than a significant other!” message (same as Strange Magic which George Lucas of all people gave us a year before the start of the Star Wars downfall with the Sequel Trilogy) if you get the reference), even by Blue Sky standards! Adventures of Buck Wild - So bad it gave people new appreciation for older Ice Age films (even the worst ones)!

@@TunaBear64 Oh yeah I 100% agree, it was just a trend I noticed with animated films with seemingly less and less substance in its supplementary content.
Can I just bring up that this looks worse than the 1st Ice Age despite being like 20 years newer, was made by a massive company (unlike the 1st Ice Age which was Blue Sky's first ever movie)? If you told me this was being made by some obscure studio with little to no renown in the Box Office, and has a with a $2,000 budget, I'd believe you. But no, *THIS IS DISNEY!!* Compare that to Dreamworks. Dreamworks recently released a sequel to a sub-par Shrek spin-off that's 12 years old. Doesn't sound very promising does it? Well, what if I were to tell you that this sequel spin-off is way better than anything Disney put out in the last 5-10 years, has a deep, dark, 'harsh-but-true' message, is the pinnacle of modern animation (seriously it looks absolutely gorgeous), rivals some of Dreamworks' best movies to date (yes, I mean Shrek 2, Kung Fu Panda 2, HTTYD 1 and 2 and Prince of Egypt), *and* all on a lower budget than Disney's recent films? Disney, this is not ok. Lucasfilm, the MCU, your own animation studio (Lightyear and Strange World were flops), and now Blue Sky? Disney is losing a lot of money very fast, and nothing seems to be getting done about it. I'd hate for Disney to go under, but that seems like exactly what's happening rn.
I actually do like the third one, everything's there from the original, it's not like any characters were mistreated and it ended up having a lot of soul to it. And it was kinda funny
9:33 - 9:35 Top Left Corner, noticed the rocks just suddenly moved in this shot... How did they manage that?! I know this is low budget but this just makes me think the Mouse had a gun pointed at them and they had to redo a scene but forgot the rocks or the file was corrupted. Perks of being an Animation Student
You’d think that Disney would have tried sprinkling in their magic to try and make Ice Age even stronger. But a combination of low budget animation and ignoring Scrat effectively shot the franchise in the knee caps. It would take a miracle for it to get back up now.
Disney has no magic. Their movies just... aren't good. Even the not bad ones are just that.... not bad. Not good, not great. Just the absence of terrible.
I still like to consider the 3rd one to be the end. It comes almost full circle: Manny finally has a family again, and it's bigger than ever. No more the mammoth that was willing to take his own life due to the loss of his og family, but now the mammoth that will take on a fucking DINOSAUR to protect his new family. Spectacular.
Ok being a little serious, I was thinking this would’ve taken place after collision course, but then I realised the only time this movie could’ve taken place is before the forth movie seeing how Shira is missing. Which just makes the Peach’s thing worse because she would’ve been a child.
An Ice Age movie with Buck Wild as the main character might’ve actually had real potential. They could’ve shown his backstory as to how he first ended up in the lost world, then could’ve explored his growing rivalry with Rudy and his slow decent into madness until he finally embraces the lost world as his home. That would’ve been a much better story.
What pisses me off most is how they tried to pass this off as a movie when it's crappy quality is more fitting for a tv show, and how it's actually supposed to be part of the franchise 😖 yeahhhhh NO!
Ice Age was dead. The franchise was dead. And Walt Disney Studios (I REFUSE to call plain Disney; I'm NOT giving them that satisfaction) opened the grave, took its corpse, tied strings around its wrists and ankles, and made it into a marionette to dance for its unwilling audience. How many times have I said this? *_NO ONE ASKED FOR THIS!!!!_*
The fact that they didn't even add Rudy is ridiculous. He was my favorite dino in “Dawn of the Dinosaurs.” favorite design hands down. And they didn't even MENTION him!!!! Like WHAT!? I do have to add that I hate how they tried to use the same set up to introduce Awesome like they did Rudy. Rudy was actually intimidating and Awesome is... Meh. Looks like you could just kick him, and then problem solved 🤦♀️
22:04 at this point me and my sister had to pause the film because we were bursting out laughing at how bad the whole thing is, it was bloody hilarious

Your Disney nostalgia baiting of the Ice Age IP made Disney look like a questionable adult offering candy to an unsuspecting child. Guess that's pretty accurate nowadays 😅
Breakneck pacing aside, I feel like they should have incorporated the possum brothers more by being foils to Buck's isolation. Like have scenes where they clearly compliment each other, tag-teaming baddies, working together and supporting each other if one or both of them fail. Have Buck try to show off to them how great he/his life is, and at first the brothers eat it up. But after a while we notice Buck doesn't really acknowledge team work efforts, refusing to collaborate in different situations, and it irks the brothers a bit. Then they go back to his bachelor pad and have fun for a little while, but the bros quickly realize just how empty/lonely buck's life is. Maybe instead of being an old team member, the skunk girl is like... another charismatic adventurer like buck who hangs around a different territory. And that's the territory the dino gang are messing with, so they all end up running into each other and she proposes they team up. The possum bros are down to help but Buck wants to do his own thing... but then they basically keep crossing paths and Buck finally agrees to tag along properly. Cue lessons about not only trusting others to share your burdens but also learning how to help others in return. Yadda yadda. Could still have ended with the possum Bros leaving the herd to live in the lost world but maybe they take a different territory that we would have seen along the way? I'm not super attached to this franchise btw, but I feel like we could have hit the same/similar story beats in a better way.... frustrating for sure. Feel bad for the team who were probably more concerned with finding new jobs than creating the most amazing movie/tv show pilot they've ever done.
Ice age ended at like the third movie in my mind. If you just pretend that all this shit afterwards didn’t exist than it ended on a decently high note as a fun family trilogy from my childhood!
I genuinely thought this movie was a joke I couldn’t stop laughing watching it for the first time. There were so many animation errors if I had taken a shot every time I saw one I would’ve died.
Yeah I have no freaking clue why they did that and still even if it was gonna be a series, this is freaking Disney! They could've made it have the same level of animation of other Disney series
Based on the quality i thought this was a pilot movie for a new animated series starring Buck. Needless to say i was very surprised when i found out this was actually just its own thing.
Those aren't dinosaurs, mate. Those are abominations. Also, if the minions are "velociraptors," then their boss is a "protoceratops." Guess what two dinosaurs have been discovered fossilized mid-fight on Mongolia.
i loved it when Buck said "It's time to get buck wild" and then proceeded to buck all over the place! That single line caused the batch of innocent orphans i was storing in my basement at the time to instantly stand up, clapping at supersonic speeds. Truly the pinnacle of modern animation, and some of the best writing I've seen in years!
two things. 1) what's up with rendering? did they render the lighting properly?? I...is it supposed to look like this?? 2) what's with Ice age desperately wanting to give literally every character a girlfriend??!
7:18 It baffles me how a movie from over a decade ago looks better. A jaw-dropping moment turned to scrap like the rest of what this franchise has become
I watched this movie recently... I noticed that when Buck pulls out the Rex's sore tooth, theres a continuity error. When they try to wake her up again, the tooth is back in her mouth again .😐
Basically, all the Ice Age movies in a nutshell *Ice Age 1:* Good *Ice Age 2 The Meltdown:* Great *Ice Age 3 Dawn of The Dinosaurs:* The best one of the series *Ice Age 4 Continental Drift:* Perfect for a new trilogy *Ice Age 5 Collision Course:* Horrible *The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild:* WTF
I feel like the first Ice Age movies had humor that all ages could enjoy, but only 10 minutes into the spin-off I could tell it’s humor and bad animation was marketed to little kids who wouldn’t know the difference. It would’ve been nicer if Disney tried appealing to Ice Ages’ original audience, who was probably more excited for the spin off anyway. I know it’s meant for a younger audience, but I hate to see how it devolved so much.
Crash and Eddie had the same problem in Ice Age 4 an 5 that Patrick had in the newer spongebob episodes: They became so exaggeratedly dumb to a point where it doesn't feel funny anymore, just annoying. In Ice Age 2 and 3 they were ok and funny, but in 4 and 5 it feels like at no point the movie takes them serious, because even in scenes of danger/natural distaster/threat they kind of take away the tension/seriousness of the moment with their sillyness. In 2 and 3, they atleast had some more serious moments and contributed to the plot. It kind of ruins the feeling of a serious threat (like the asteroid heading towards earth in 5) when the comic relief characters are just joking around even in more emotional/threatening moments. Sid has the same problem in 5 when it feels like the movie just constantly makes fun of him.
One thing I noticed when Crash and Eddie say that one dinosaur they’re on is allergic to opossums was never mentioned or shown in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. All they did with that dinosaur was to escape another by referencing Fred Flintstone’s sliding and saying his catch phrase, “Yabba Dabba Doo!”
Ice Age is the new "Land Before Time" with an extra step, besides an inundation of sequels, and now Ice Age has an spinoff. This basically Disney's version of the Minions, of giving the comedy relief characters their own film, cheap humour, equally cheap animation, by the numbers plot, and child friendly imagery, it's a total cop-out of what Ice Age use to be. This might actually be worse than Continental Drift, at least with that film there as some effort, Disney was gambling on nostalgia, despite making this for the current generation, this is just embarassing.
“Deformed more and more each year” is scarily accurate. The first Ice Age was unimpressive both in the technological and story sense. But the voice actors saved it with their talent and quipy comedic timing. Things got bleaker and bleaker with each installment, and I didn’t even know this existed until the video. Shows that there was no marketing or interest and I’m praying they’ll take a few years before they thaw the series back out with fresh ideas. Having humans involved in a film again (now that they’re easier to model) may be a step in the right direction.
All because of Woke Disney milking the ice age and blue sky and other fox IPs nonstop has now turned itself into an ongoing boss baby, trolls, saw and despicable me franchise nonstop
Ice Age producers: "Add some kind of female rodent character." The creative team: "Alright sure." That one guy in the writer's room: 🥵(abandons all reason)🥵
I both remember and don't remember this movie. The villain is so bland and just pathetic, the characters are far from charismatic, and the plot feels boring. And where the heck did the budget go? The animation is so off. Looks like a fanmade animation, like the SFM animations for FNAF and MLP back in the day, only slightly better textures on the models, cheap fur, and the bare minimum of time spent on backgrounds and lighting.
I was cautiously optimistic for this film. What a naive fool I was! This was unbelievable painful to get to the end of this. I liked the previous five films and this ruins the great streak. I also really hate orson. He was very annoying and his dialogue sounds like a three year old wrote it. When I finally reached the end of the film, all I had to say was " that was the worst thing I have ever seen" disney you corporate jerks. You should have never defiled blue sky's graves.
You know what else is awful. They have a poster for this movie and it makes you believe that the movie’s animation would look as good as the last couple but no it’s completely horrendous.
I just really wanna know where this “movie” sits in the Ice Age storyline bc it’s extremely confusing. Like “uber tracker” is a callback to the first movie and Diego’s personality matches up with how he was then, but Crash, Eddie, and Ellie didn’t exist until the second movie, and they didn’t meet Buck until the third movie where Manny and Ellie also had Peaches, then in the fourth movie Diego meets Shira and they become mates, and correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t there a callback to Buck having a “daughter” that’s like a pumpkin or something, which wouldn’t have happened until the fifth movie and that’s also where Sid meets his mate and Peaches is getting ready to go off on her own with her mate… So Peaches I can understand being gone but there’s no mention at all of her even existing which wouldn’t fit Manny’s overprotective attitude they built up and Diego and Sid seem single since there’s no mention of Shira or Brooke (had to google her name) at all, and their all personalities have reverted back to the ones they had in the original movies they appeared in so like, where is this supposed to fall in the storyline? I know I’m thinking way too deep into something clearly made more very young kids but I need that sweet, sweet lore.

@@bighand1530 who schaffrillas or Dazz?
Hotel Transylvania has been made the same since 2012, well cause its studio didn't go out of business. It really has had a mixed reception for a long time.
Dazz sitting there eating Pringles completely unmoved by the horrible storytelling and animation is hilarious to me
*sigh* We’ve really come to this, haven’t we? This movie is so bad it reminds me of the ending of “The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3” episode 11: “Oh Brother” (the worst episode, even by TAOSMB3 standards) when the Mario Bros. themselves argued about whose fault it was that they got into a petty feud at the start of the episode.
Kinda sad how Disney, which was once like thought of as the pinnacle of animation, is now pretty much the definition of mid to terrible
The Ice Age franchise is ruined because of Disney.
Yea
Didn't it ruin itself by the 5th movie anyway?
@Julian “Jules” R ok
Ice Age was already ruined because of the 5th movie but Disney ended up making it worse by making this piece of garbage
@@yourdad5799 I didn’t mind the 5th movie.
They make those Land Before Time Sequels look like underrated masterful gems by comparison.
The land before time sequels are great! I grew up with them!
Ikr?
I like this ice age movie
At least "The Land Before Time" sequels had good animation and music to make up for it.
That is what I was thinking when I watched this embarrassing "movie"
I think it's in our best interest that they didn't include Rudy. Considering how horrible this is.
I didn’t try that game. But it looked like fun.
Was literally just hopping on here to say the same thing, lol
as someone who played that game, i agree. (i dont at all remember what the story was like)

Could you really expect more from Disney? Laziness is the new standard
Does Disney not realize that the Ice Age franchise used to make Shrek money? To bring it back with a cheap Disney+ spin-off instead of what DreamWorks is doing with the Shrek / Puss in Boots franchise is a major misfire.
They do. It’s just “not their franchise”, and they seem to hate animation more and more.
omg now I want to see an ice age movie in the puss in boots 2 art style, disney has all the money they need to make it happen
@@audiovisualcringe Same. A movie that's as good as puss in boots 2 would b amazing.
I agree, it's like they killed the project on purpose and gave money to another one, while forgetting that it used to be a very successful IP!
Is Shera even in it either?
@@crimsongold6980 no, it's like she does not even exist to begin with. And they completely forgot about the line left by the fifth movie, you know, the one about her and Diego wanting cubs of their own.
Who does Disney even think they are?
They just shut down a childhood animation company who made all the original Ice Age films that surprisingly hold up today (despite the 4th and 5th one being considered less successful) then make another one themselves and turn it into something horrible and disrespectful to the original creators😠
They just don’t know when to stop, do they?
Ice Age was in better hands with Blue Sky.
And they made friggen’ Collision Course.
*My thoughts on the Ice Ages*
Ice Age - Definitely flawed, but the story in this movie is even better than the movie itself! (Could’ve been better, but otherwise, not bad!)
The Meltdown - The first time the Ice Age franchise melted down (second if you count the video game version of the original limited to the GBA.

But no, *THIS IS DISNEY!!*
Compare that to Dreamworks.
I would hate to see Disney go under but I hope they continue to lose money till they go back to what made them a household name to begin with
Technically, it is made by an obscure studio with little to no box office fame, licensed by Disney.
The budget is actually $10m
And the box office is $97.3m

Every franchise they touch Disney DESTROYS.
Or an even better idea would’ve been to never even bothered writing a script for this piece of garbage!
I agree.
What pisses me off most is how they tried to pass this off as a movie when it's crappy quality is more fitting for a tv show, and how it's actually supposed to be part of the franchise 😖 yeahhhhh NO!
Not even that this should have been one of them crappy straight to dvd movies you buy at Walmart

Your Disney nostalgia baiting of the Ice Age IP made Disney look like a questionable adult offering candy to an unsuspecting child.

I feel like the first Ice Age movies had humor that all ages could enjoy, but only 10 minutes into the spin-off I could tell it’s humor and bad animation was marketed to little kids who wouldn’t know the difference.

I'm still confused why Blue Sky sold their company. Their movies were so popular.
The series should've ended with Continental Drift, or even Dawn of the Dinosaurs. It only went downhill after that.
All because of Woke Disney milking the ice age and blue sky and other fox IPs nonstop has now turned itself into an ongoing boss baby, trolls, saw and despicable me franchise nonstop

They should've ended at Ice Age 3.

I can more or less agree
My question
WTF happend to Rudy?
Like Buck was riding Rudy around by the end of Ice Age 3 and the opening of 4
Like did he lose Rudy? Did Rudy die?
You know what else is awful. They have a poster for this movie and it makes you believe that the movie’s animation would look as good as the last couple but no it’s completely horrendous.
It looks & sounds like a 3D nicktoon from 2012
I just really wanna know where this “movie” sits in the Ice Age storyline bc it’s extremely confusing.
