    Sorry, but I really didn't like the score very much. I'm not a fan of the music starting when he breaks the wall; I much preferred it stopping when that happens because it adds to the impact of the Doctor finally breaking free of the endless cycle of torture. And the music for the "You got the prophecy wrong... the Hybrid is me." really didn't fit IMO.
    The edit was fantastic though!

      honestly i think the issue with this doctor and his awesome moments for me was the fact that what he was saying relay didn't fit this doctor or his delivery, if it had been tenent or smith acting this then it would have had some measure of redemption because these speeches fit their personas much better, but from the 12th i honestly expected something more soft spoken

      I think he was a brilliant choice! and so much of an underplayer! (is that a word? lol) right up till the odd moment like The Zygon Inversion obviously and one or two others! don't forget Matt Smith was quite angry and cerebral at times! "do you think you are cleverer than me, are you in charge now?" Capaldi had to be different and doubting he was in charge sometimes in a sort of way was quite brilliant! (hence Clara taking a lead, or actually being duped into thinking she was in charge) give them (humanity) a chance of responsibility! but he manipulated everything!

The series 12 finale literally vaporized all life on the planet forever. You can’t exactly go “whoops it was just in another dimension” with that. Not to mention if they bring Gallifrey back AGAIN it just becomes a joke. The fact that it was destroyed again was already a joke. Chibnall just took the 50th anniversary and shat on it. Also it doesn’t even make sense. The curator was implied to be a much later incarnation of the Doctor that used Tom Baker’s (4th Doctor) face again and he said “Gallifrey falls no more”, so how come 2 regenerations later it fell twice?! God I hate Chibnall’s era.

    'This is Gallifrey' doesn't really fit here at all. That theme was composed to accompany the memory of Gallifrey and the Tenth Doctor's wistful, idealised view of it. Since that theme debuted, we've seen how the Time Lords were twisted by war, and in all honesty they weren't really that good to begin with. The Classic Series shows us exactly why the Doctor ran away from Gallifrey, because it was a corrupt society with deep social divisions and a highly elitist view of itself, not to mention bitterly xenophobic. Using 'This is Gallifrey' in this scene undermines the revelation about the truth of Gallifrey, and the triumphant nature of the theme definitely doesn't fit with the Twelfth Doctor's intentions to take revenge on Rassilon. This episode is dark and it shows the dark side of both the Doctor and Gallifrey itself, and I think that's exactly why 'This is Gallifrey' wasn't used in the original episode

      I disagree, somewhat.
      He just escaped the confession dial, by *losing REALLY HARD.*
      The small amount of triumph present in the theme is warranted here.
      And to be fair, there is probably some conflict in him about this. As we see in the next episode, the council may have been twisted by war, but the average time lord wasn’t.
      In fact: I feel like most timelords would do what we see in the next episode: betray their planet for the Doctor. He really could have turned the place around if he didn’t throw it away for Clara.

      I think it would have been inappropriate to use 'This is Gallifrey' in Hell Bent, as that theme was introduced to illustrate the Tenth Doctor's idealised view of Gallifrey. When he describes the planet he talks about it like it's a paradise, as if he has almost forgotten why he ran away in the first place all those years ago. When the Twelfth Doctor returns to Gallifrey in this episode, it's to take revenge against Rassilon after years of torture, and the truth about Gallifrey's corrupt society is plain to see. 'This is Gallifrey' is the theme for the memory of Gallifrey, not for Gallifrey itself.

      Well, Dalek Sec was arguably himself not truly dalek, as the whole cult of skaro was genetically engineered to be unique among the dalek: he then experimented to try and bring survival to the dalek as they stood on the brink of extinction. By then the rest of the cult was already fomenting a mutiny, which shows to what extent they found this anormal if you consider a Dalek is always supposed to obey their commanders. Dalek Sec didn’t know exactly what he would be once hybrid and we can safely say that it is a different person who came out of the pod afterwards. He was then quickly overthrown by the other daleks as soon as they witnessed he was indeed not like them anymore. I fully agree with the doctor here, a normal dalek can’t allow the idea of being mixed up with any other thing. Supreme superiority and racial “purity” are the very basic idea on which they were created, and what they exist for.

       @tivednagol9127 "This is Gallifrey" is one of the best scores composed for New Who. Depending on how it was used, it could convey gut-wrenching heartache, or mysterious and foreboding tension. It is not outside of the realm of possibility that it could be used to convey the Doctor's intention to "go postal".
      In fairness, in this edit, the use of "This is Gallifrey" is done very well specifically between 0:50 and 1:13, but would, as you point out, be enhanced by something more aggressive and intimidating for the final section in the Doctor's mini-speech about the hybrid.
      To be honest, if you want to complain about the use of score in a Doctor Who moment, please see the final section of Rosa (11x3), the scene where Rosa is being arrested. It makes both the original and the rescoring of this scene look immaculate.

And it's funny because Prometheus was said to be the god of Mortals and the Doctor loves to protect them and be around them considering he is not a mortal like them in a sense. Just love the parallels also I challenge anyone to see if in any episode of Doctor Who whether it be classic, new or Big finish stories that The Doctor has ever mentioned the name Prometheus once because I believe that is what his name is or at least a by name that means the same thing in Gallifreyan

      I know why: It was used when the tenth Doctor told sentimental stories about the good old Gallifrey. His opinion on the timelords, especially those in the city building in this video, has since then turned 180°. He now thinks they aren't much better than Daleks, they're too much into their war and only focused on their own goals. Maybe a dark version of it would have fit, but I don't know if it would sound good.

    • @LosloTypical
      @LosloTypical 7 лет назад +11

      FaRo, the Time Lords have always been bad though. Especially in the classics, and it should be no different here.
      RTD made the Timelord’s and Gallifrey seem all nice, but it wasn’t like that at all. RTD also made the Timelords seem like the most powerful race in the universe, but they’re not...

    • @Meangrl19
      @Meangrl19 6 лет назад +4

      The Doctor had mixed feelings about Galliifrey. He was never in any doubt that they were bad. Whether it was in RTD's era or not. He knew they were a corrupt society since before he even left Gallifrey and they only got worse with time. He said he chose to remember the good things about them because he felt guilty for what he did to them and he has always had mixed feelings about them-yes he hates that they are power hungry and everything they stand for, but he still loves and respects and cares for them. No matter how much he hated being trapped on Gallifrey when he was young, he still always thought of it as home and his heart was broken that he destroyed that home, his family, his friends. He chose to remember them for the good aspects about that cause he felt he owed them that-to remember the way them for all the good they did instead of the bad, but he also wasn't so delusional to accept it as fact that they were saints. He knew they were monsters especially now but he still cared for them. it actually made perfect sense. It's not that RTD was making the timelords and them seem nice-it's all explained in the timelord episodes-he wanted to remember them that way, NOT that it the way he chose to remember them was a reality. They weren't nice-you're right- not even in the classic series. They don't know seem to know right from wrong and don't care to they always think they are right and other species aren't as important as them. But the Doctor has always had mixed emotions for the timelords: he sees the good in them whether he wants to or not but he also knows them well enough that they stand for everything wrong in the universe-they are like daleks except worse because they choose to be like that, its not programmed into them like the daleks and to make it even worse they are more powerful to him and harder to defeat because even if they don't care about him, he cares about them and wants to save them, but there are times like in the End of Time where he cant save them and it will be difficult to overcome them and he tasks drastic measures[even grabbing the gun] obviously because he is petrified of them. He's never had any illusions that they were good, kind people. He cares about them and feels guilty about what he did to them, but he also knows that they are monsters and still can't help but care about them on some level anyway.

      Fetto I disagree. When the Doctor first speaks of Gallifrey to Jack and Martha, coincidentally when ‘This is Gallifrey. Our Childhood. Our Home’ first appeared, you hear the Doctor state that Gallifrey was ‘perfect to look at, maybe’ which implies that Gallifrey was not good on the inside, only on the outside. Also, in that flashback, the Timelords are portrayed as cold overseers who force a child master to look on into the Untempered Schism, despite him looking back in worry while they stare back in detachment.
      Also, I would like to point out the reason RTD may have made the Doctor think more highly of Gallifrey. This is because the Doctor had just lost his planet, his species. Therefore, he’d try to remember the best of his species to keep him going, and try not to remember the reasons they had to die, e.g their corruption. The Doctor, being a manipulator, wants people to feel pity for him, so of course he would portray Gallifrey in a slightly better light, however, this point is just perspective.
      TL;DR the Doctor forced himself to look on a Gallifrey memorably, but he never make any indication that the Time Lords were a benevolent people.

    I don’t prefer this at all. Returning I Gallifrey shouldn’t be all happy and dandy. The Timelords have always been villains and this just portrays them in a different light. This is where I prefer Moffat’s take on Gallifrey compared to RTD.

    • @Lamadredetuamigo
      @Lamadredetuamigo 7 лет назад +10

      Poshfully RTD’s was the one who said that the Time Lords became as bad as the Daleks and you can see on the End of Time that Davies’ idea was to portray the vast majority of the Time Lords as ruthless beings (in favour of destroying creation in order to survive). Moffat was the one who showed only a minority of TL being bad/evil (the council with Rassilon) while the rest were victims/noble people/fellas.
      Also, the happy music of Gallifrey is just what the Doctor back then wanted to remember of Gallifrey. An idealistic picture.

    I don’t get it the hybrid to conquer gallifrey and stand it it’s ruins, if that’s true the dr is the hybrid does that mean he’s going to destroy gallifrey and become it’s god or is president or something like that? Neat I hope he does he’d make a cool ruler or gallifrey, he did what he had to do in his past he saw people suffering in a war that could not be one and to put his people from being in hell through it in pain he took it on his own back and pulled the plug, taking the responsibility on his back them being blamed for being a mad man, eh? He did what he did was wrong he’s half human right? And humans aren’t perfect we sometimes make mistakes surely that can be forgiven if agent back in time and undid the damages I watched a lot of shoes in time travel trust me lol, he had a time machine for got sack, I mean back one the Olsen day say earth 17th century or less they did the same to people suffering to much I think they still do but with permission of entire family so why can’t they forgive that, so he’s half human he’s not perfect we all have a past, all the time we have known the story he’s been great so I’d think he’s make a good leader, he organised smart adventures and the ability to rule.

    Something that does not make sense to me:
    the doctor concludes that all the skulls underwater are also part of his past selves having died.
    Most likely he died when diving into the water, drowning.
    The question remains, if that really did happen then how did the next doctor come around?
    remember that he has to use his own body to activate the teleporter to reset his old/new version to keep the loop going.
    Also lovely that the Time Lords found the most logical way to interrogate the doctor was by putting his prison somewhere in the middle of the desert without monitoring him the entire time, simply allowing him to break free over so many years without ever interfering to stop him.
