    I got my first time bike 1.14.2018 and it’s a 883 Iron industrial gray. I just turned 65 in July took the HD rider school. I put 1400 miles on it around town I love it. I wanted a bike just to go out to ride part of the day. No nighttime or rush hour, rain and expressway I have my caddy for that. I put Vance and Hines side three inch mufflers on a naked air filter and fuel pack 3, HD side bag, Wille G clutch cover and gas cap and a Dart fly screen oh yes Avon grips too. That baby gets a lot of head turns. You’re never to old to learn new things.

      I saw people in Germany demanding similar prices or like ten year old model for 75%. Who will buy that? I don't even try to barter and I know Harley bikes do not change much in comparison with other brands over ten years.
      There are imports from the USA sold at a hefty price and wirhout the info up front whether the necessary changes to make it street legal in Germany are included.
      I rode a Dyna. I cannot take the vibrations to long. I really wanted to make the switch. But it did not work. Harley engines just dont fit me.

The older bikers would make huge fun of me, till I out ran them. Because of this, everyone wanted to ride it. In exchange, I got to ride a ton of bikes I could of only dreamed of and never afford at that time in my life. They found other things to make fun of, but not the bike :))

    I hear a lot of people complaining it’s difficult to find neutral, not here in this comment section but in general. I just have a piece of advice that if you kinda “push” the clutch peg *in* towards the engine and lift up slowly, that has never failed me.

    • @rugershooter5268
      @rugershooter5268 6 месяцев назад

      The reason they have hard time finding neutral is they put 20w-50 in the primary, if they change to gear oil it will fix the problem immediately, after riding for awhile the clunk and moving forward when going into first will also go away......read the owners manual

    I’ve owned both the iron 883 sand camo, and the forty eight, I must say that the extra displacement of the 1200 makes it perfect for a bar hopper, as well as being able to move along nicely on the freeway when necessary. The 883 was great, and a ton of fun, but as they say, there is no replacement for displacement. Currently riding a dr650 which is not so much of an upgrade, rather it is a shift in my desired riding wants and needs. If you like cruising around town ( ya at speed limit, sure ) and do occasional to medium freeway use, the sportys are great starter bikes, and have tons of mods that can make it look fantastic.

  • @RayfordRaySiegel
    @RayfordRaySiegel 5 лет назад +1

    When you ride a 48 Special, hold on loosely, but don't let it go...
    Mid controls make me feel like I have less control, because they're right in the way of putting my feet down.
    Harley-Davidson's are tested for handling the engine heat, in Arizona.
    I've seen a big, heavy club member looking dude riding a Sporty.

This is gonna be my 1st bike for sure. I start my biking journey at 45y old next weekend with sitting my CBT here in Scotland and i reckon with commitments it will prob take me around 8 weeks or so of lessons before i manage to sit and pass my test. After my close friend passed away suddenly last month at only 46 years of age it has been hard to think about anything positive. However it just highlights that life is too short and that it is for living, i have re-evaluated lots of things these past few weeks. I have been putting this off for too long!. I am looking forward to learning and riding and when i buy my iron 883 in a few mths time this year i am going to get my friends name engraved on it. His name was Scott. All the best buddy. The blockhead nickname was coined because the heads prior to the 1980's were cast iron , the Evo motor was the first time HD used a block of aluminum machined to make the heads of the new improved motor !!! Thus the "blockhead " motor was created !!! The aluminum also has better heat transference properties and stronger than cast iron !!!

I also like the new logo better - but it is a matter of personal preference. But there's one important thing: did Harley drop keyless ignition in favour of traditional keyed ignition ?

    I've been riding motorcycles since the early 60's, all sizes and brands, and I currently ride my 2005 XL883 Standard which I love. You are spot-on in your comments about the so-called "girl's bike". To paraphrase what Saddle Tramp said about "Baggers" vs "Girls' bikes", which would you rather ride across the country on? It seems to me that it would take a tougher person - male or female - to do it on a Sportster. I've always considered "Baggers" to be like old Buick's because they are big, plush and soft. There is something magical about the Sportster which has been around since 1957 and its later model Evo engines. It is bulletproof, just modern enough and just retro enough to scratch all of my itches. It isn't the fastest or best handling bike I've ever owned, but it is by far the most fun bike I've ever owned. It's a keeper.
    I could go on about why I prefer the mid-controls over forward controls, but that would take another chapter.
    GREAT VIDEO!!!!!! Keep up the great work!

    I started on a 1991 HD 1200cc Sportster, loved the raw power, the sound and the overal feel. But it started to fall apart mid riding. The clutch cable somehow hooked onto the front fender so i couldn't turn left anymore while driving 50mph and at one point the right footpeg started to loosen up. I was terrified and in blind panic i traded the bike in for a 2012 BMW F800GS for the "German Quality". Biggest mistake of my life and i regret it every single day.

    You should do some vids on older bikes. Just to compare, all the bikes you've owned are new, fuel injected and such. I'd enjoy hearing your opinion on how it feels to ride some more classic bikes.

    This is a very enjoyable review to listen to and watch. I am actually thinking about down grading my Harley Low-Rider S to a new Iron 883. I had one of the early evolution 883 Sportsters back in 1990 and loved it. I like the lower maintenance costs, the fact that an oil change is all you need to also take care of the primary and transmission, and I am glad to see the bike is so reliable. It almost sounds like the Sportster 883 Iron (unmodified) is more reliable than the M 8.

    Sportsters are the best bike Harley-Davidson make that’s why they haven’t changed too much and like you said you can do SO MUCH to a sportster and if you want to go fast put a 1250 or 1275 kit from Hammer on it , there so easy and fun to ride and very easy to work on

    Hey Blockhead, I bet you can get some sponsorship from some lenders, and bike Insurance companies.
    I like how you describe the bikes! I like you include the prices, it makes me want to go buy a new one! I've never had a Harley, I've only had naked bikes mostly 1,000cc and 1,200cc Honda, Suzuki, and Ducati.
    Keep riding on! :-)

    I got a 18 iron love it nice to see you on one again you helped me make my decision on buying it it cost less than a cable bill a month and for where I ride in like to do it works out just great I also got the trade up deal so I don't know I might want something bigger down the road. The best thing though wood be to have the Iron 883 and a slim still would be cheaper than a new car. Thanks for all your good advice.

    After many bikes I bought my first Sportster last week, a 2018 Iron 883 in White Denim with 10K on it. In my first week of ownership I'm shaking my head wondering...
    Why the Hell didn't I buy Sportster 35 years ago?
    It is a blast to tear around town and the mountains.. I almost look forward to going to work since I've been riding it in. Zero buyer's remorse.
    BTW, I've never seen anyone make fun of a Sportster owner. I guess the people I ride with are just into riding.

    This is a very well done, informative video. Thanks for the info. Now I have to check out your channel, just to learn more. But this makes me want a Sportster. I won't be touring so this might be a great fit for me. It occurs to me that if the Sportster sucked, it would have disappeared a long time ago.

    If they would put a six speed in it, the 1200 version I think would sell soooo much better.i know I'd be all over it. I commute daily 65 miles 5 days a week, that 6th gear is a must on the freeway.

    Sportsters are cool but they need to build it with more ground clearance. Tall & Fat rubber on both ends, and a 124 cu. in. stage 3 engine right out of the box.
