    Shame on the companies charging ppl $700 to fix these issues. Nice work man. Thanks for the pro tip!

      Exactly that's what I was thinking. You're welcome man! Thanks

    • @jroks12345
      @jroks12345 2 года назад +1

      Really? It takes hours to recover data properly. Depending on the amount of data retrieved depends usually on the price. The $700 price is usually after the fact recovery. The initial fee usually should be $150 just to see if data is recoverable. If it is, then a quote is give for the amount per gig. Usually $1-$5 per gig depending on the level of recovery required. If it's just straight software driven retrieval, $1/gig. If drive manipulation required; part replacement or full platter/chop removal from host to sacrificial drive it drives the cost up.
      Don't hate the price tag. Likely your full bill would be $700 if not more depending on data retrieved. The drive might be $100, but your data is priceless if it's sensitive or required for business.

    • @jroks12345
      @jroks12345 2 года назад +1

      To follow up, something like this could be done by a local shop with someone that has decent soldering skills. $150 and usually you're back in business with your drive put back together. If you don't care for the enclosure, then the price gets cheaper, like Jeremy said, remove the drive and plug it into a $7 adapter and you're good to go.

    Hey Allan! Congratulations for this video 🙌🏽 I hope that this work for me as well. In the min 1.57 you were saying about the problems your were having. What were those problems? My issue is that the speed of transferring data is so slow 🥺🥺 between my LaCie and my Mac

    • @IndieFilmArmy
      @IndieFilmArmy  3 года назад

      Hey Jorge,
      The biggest issue was the fact that my drive would not mount to my laptop. Before this was permanent it used to randomly unmount without apparent cause. But the reason why it wasn't staying mounted was because the soldering was coming apart. I'm sorry man I haven't experienced the slow speeds but who knows that's maybe because the part is coming lose on ur drive as well because in assuming you tried a faster cable. Talk soon later

Now, hours later, the drive I've been using for weeks is not recognized by my laptop. I can hear it buzzing when I plug it in, so it is getting power... is your fix in this video recommended for this scenario? I've tried different cords and four different ports.... not seen by my laptop. Argh! Help :) Thanks!

    I purchased two LaCie 5TB Rugged HDDs less than a year ago. Both drives have experienced issues with the USB-C port coming loose, leading to incorrect ejection and a risk of data loss. It's worth noting that I have only used these HDDs within the confines of my lounge despite their "Rugged" designation. In my opinion, the USB-C port design of the LaCie Rugged series is poor, and I cannot recommend these drives. I'm returning the HDDs to LaCie and will require my money back rather than replacements. Informative upload. Voted & Sub'd.

      I would send it in. I have a 4tb, and I tried this method because my USB-C port was loose like in the video,, but apparently upon using the adapter and plugging back into my computer I received a prompt saying the disk was unreadable. Later found out this is due to a software on the drive to prevent people from installing them into computers.

    hm i have a quick question! Did this hard drive make weird noises when connected? (beforehand) I don't think my drive has problem with loose connect (as you mention on the video)

    I cannot access my photos, however it still lights up when I plug it in? Does that mean the adapter is the problem still? Or would it not be lighting up at all?

    Awesome! Do you know what sort of adaptor I would need for a LaCie Rugged Raid 4TB (2 x 2TB) with thunderbolt & USB 3.0 interfaces?

      Hello Amirah, the only way to see is to take it apart and look inside unfortunately. Because i don't have that model. It may have the same SATA as they are very common but I'm not sure gotta crack it open to find out🤓

    So the warranty won't work after this step? How would I get the adapter back on if the drive still works to use again? - take it own to a repair shop?

    Hi! I find this video very interesting but I still do not know if it's worth risking voiding the warranty. I purchased my 4tb Lacie Rugged USB-C drive about a month ago. Yesterday it started making weird clicking noises and was unmounted from my macbook. Do you think that maybe my drive has the same issue as yours? The thing is, I do not want to go ahead and try to the same thing you did in the video only to find out that the actual software is damaged and I just voided the warranty in vain. How did you find out what the problem was before unscrewing the lid of your drive? Was your drive also making clicking noises or anything similar?

      I forgot to mention, but my drive has never been damaged in any way. It's pretty much brand new

    I was so excited when I saw this video - I bought all the pieces but when I plugged the disk in I received a pop up saying "The disk you attached was not readable by this computer." Does anyone know how I can fix this if I need to change something in settings? I will be forever grateful!

    I have a LaCie hard drive that will not show up on my mac. I have tried to use Disc Utility to mount it but the option to mount does not show up. If I get the SATA adapter will I be able to access my files and move them to a new drive? I need to get some important footage for a project off of it :(

    Hey Allan. I have a beeping sound with my LaCie drive and id doesn't show up in Finder. I found this video and will try to fix it the same way. What kind of screwdriver is this?

    Great video. Have you ever experience you lacie rugged ssd THB disconnecting itself everytime ? I plug it, I see the icon for two seconds then it disappear. I still got the warrantly but maybe I'm going to try what you have done here cause I really don't want to loose my data
