Hello there. Is there a connector converting a USB - C to an ordinary USB? So that I can use the 2Tb LaCie? I can't connect the SSD to my USB - C-less lap top.
Will a docking station with thunderbolt3 thunderbolt4 and usbc fix the issue. Im trying to do some daisy chasing of old equipment and the new 14in m1 mac only has usbc and was wondering if a thunderbolt3 to usbc for the laptop in port would fix the problem of compatibility.
I just bought the rugged ssb 2tb & my Mac book air is from 2011 with no usb-c port but the cable/cord that came with the rugged ssd is usb-c on both ends… so do I need to return the rugged ssd and get a different harddrive ? Or can I get another cord to connect the usb-c to my old Mac laptop? ? I am very new to all of this and I don’t know what I’m doing or even what terms/words to use so I hope my question is clear.

that's all great.. but you cannot even order a rugged lacie drive that supposedly supports thunderbolt from apple store. All of them have "usb-c" in their description. up to 5GB/s and no mention of thunderbolt. As a matter of fact I cannot find a single lacie drive that supports thunderbolt. All of the have usb-c / usb 3.0 compatibility.

Great video and explanation! I recently realized this as well, and after doing lots of research I still am quite confused sometimes when ordering gear!
HI i bought one.. Rugged USB-C 2 TB STFR2000800 plugged into my macbook pro and works perfectly.... BUT not on my pc.... is not showing the disk any help?
For any work with video editing, always work on SSD drives. Lacie makes an awesome external SSD in the 500 GB/1TB and 2TB. It will have the fastest write speeds! For storage, the seagate should be great!
Do u have an unused thunderbolt cable by chance for sale?, I broke my old thunderbolt cable years ago and Im looking for integrated cable replacement, the cable that is directly connected to the hard drive board, I couldn't find the replacement yet
HI Stephen 🙂HEY Is This Model The One I Want having what You Explained LaCie Rugged USB 3.1 USB-C 5TB External Hard Drive STFR5000800? Or LaCie - Rugged USB-C 5TB External USB 3.1 Gen 1 Portable Hard Drive STFR5000800? THANKS In ADVANCE 🙂
Hello! I would definitely suggest the first model- USB 3.1 USB-C 5TB External, you can also pick up a USB c to USB adapter to use it on non USB C computers

@@AkunahsDream hey! i have an older mac book too. what i did was go to five below or target and buy an iphone charger cable that is USB-C to USB. I prefer going to five below because they have a bunch of different chargers so you can see which one fits. I hope this helps
hi, if I buy the Lacie Usb-c and decide to use a thunderbolt 3 or 4 ( when available) connector will this work up at the speed of the Thunderbolt 3 or T4 ? or it will go as fast as usb-c speed ?
Generally if the drive is rated at USB-C it will always match the transfer rate of USB-C, it might match close to a thunderbolt rating, but it will also depend on the computer you are using? Hope that helps!
Bro!! I have been planning to buy a Lacie drive. The video starts with did you make the same mistake and I satrted laughing cuz I aint even know it was a mistake hahahaha Love this You will grow big super soon! Great Content!
Did you think these were different? Why do they make it so confusing?
I’m still confused but at a much higher level now
Confusion and drive types go hand in hand :)
Interesting, I was actually thinking of buying one of these drives for my Mac book pro so super helpful video
Thanks Mark! Hope you're well :)

The docking station might fix the issue depending on the docking station ports - fingers crossed

Hi see I am planning to buy hard disk.which one is the best a lazy or G drive
Personally I always go with Lacie, but G Drives are good and sometimes cheaper
Great video and explanation! I recently realized this as well, and after doing lots of research I still am quite confused sometimes when ordering gear!
Glad it was helpful, Bill! I found it SO confusing.

I don't see links in the comments or the description box.
Sorry about that will add those in
Do you get Thunderbolt 3 speeds with the USB-C only Lacie that you settled on?
Generally the speeds are quite similar for the USB-C and thunderbolt, also the computer and processing power will play a factor
Your lighting is weird
i made the same mistake. i thought it would be usb-c to usb LMAO
Right? Indeed it can be confusing

Which do I choose for my m2 air
Definitely the usb-c version
Hi, are u using this with an M1? What’s the performance like? I gotRugged USB C version, do I need a new cable?
It will work just fine with the M1 - for data work on video editing I might suggest looking into the LaCie solid state drives 👍
I’m still confused I got LaCie usbc to back to my vsts does this mean a usbc is not made for storing ?
Aaaaah thank you! I was about to purchase it and came across this video :)
Glad it helped! 🙏🙏
thank you! it's so all very messy! Don't understand why the industry doesn't find a standard and get it overt with!
I thought they were the same too actually!
The devil is in the details! lol
You'd have blast with Display port alt mode. 🙂

USB was always disappointing. I have an old LG laptop with e-sata.
That's why I gave up!!! The world is nuts!
thank you for the explanation. I m just trying to learn the terms any yours helped a lot
Thx so much! Hope this clarifies a bit the wide and wonderful world of external rugged drives
@@StephenBell_video definitely! I do need to learn more about tech and term still! but this was very helpful
if you dont show us the cables and sockets it a bit confusing
the hard rive thunderbolt 3 it's faster than the USB
