      Most laptop hardware matchups don't really make sense.
      I'd expect at least a 1440p display for that GPU

    • @TheMsdos25
      @TheMsdos25 Год назад +6

      Because super high Rez screens on most laptops are complete overkill and waste battery life. You won't be able to see the pixels on a 13, 14, or even 15 inch laptop from a normal viewing distance and increasing the PPI higher just means you have to turn on upscaling to actually use your OS. The money they'd spend installing 4k screens on gaming laptops is better spent on higher refresh rates and better response times that will actually improve the gaming experience.
      Maybe 1440p on a 17+ inch screen would make sense but even then most gamers probably don't feel like paying hundreds extra for it.

    • @sategllib2191

      1440p on 15.6 inch would be perfectly fine. 17 Would probably be barely noticeable as well

    The other interesting application for this is once you have the input of the display you can get a HDMI decoder for the correct resolution and display connection, and repurpose an old display into a monitor. I have an old Latitude E5430 with a dead motherboard, I've already pirated the hard drive for my PC and am hoping to convert the display into a monitor for a portable gaming rig. Just mount the display assembly and decoder to your PC case and plug it all in, or mount them to a box and put a powerboard in, then slot in and strap down your desired console, plug it all in, and you have a portable gaming setup. I know you can buy a box with a display for this, but they're worth a couple hundred dollars and if you have a display already, you might as well use it.
    On the downside, thanks to the dead motherboard I can't use system information tools. I've used the owners manual, panelook, and some replacement parts websites to get as much information as I can on the display, but I'm still not sure on it's fixation. I'll need to do some more investigating to confirm before I buy a decoder.

    Thank you! This video was exactly whatI was looking for!
    I saw my original display has the same specs as your original Chi Mei one. Their interface type is LVDS 1 channel 6 bit, whilst the displays for replacement found on panelook with the advanced search you show in the video are LVDS 2 channel 6 bit ones.
    Are you sure you only need to replace the display as is, without having to replace the cable that connects the motherboard to the display with an LVDS 2 channel 6 bit one?

    • @TechRodent
      @TechRodent  2 года назад +2

      Glad you found the video useful.
      In this case, there is a chance that the laptop itself may not have two channels, and if so, then you're limited to 1366x768 and cannot use a 1080p panel, but I took an educated guess with mine, as I saw similar models to mine with a 1080p panel, and it worked.

    Hello! Just switched to a 1080p IPS display on my sony vaio but the image is very poor and pixelated whatever resolution I try! Is it the display or my videocard(radeon 7600M series) doesn't support 1080p? I have latest video driver.. Thank you!

    I have a ASUS X555LN-X0112H, which has a horrible TN Display Build in. Through this Tutorial i found the LG LP156WF4-SLC1. Problem is: this Display has 2 Channel lvds Interface, while the old Display has 1 Channel lvds. So i need to buy a specific Cable to convert 1 Channel to 2 Channel?
    I know that the Nvidia 840m in this Maschine Supports resolutions Up to 2560x1600, so i should probally only replace the cable.
