That ridge on the Buffalo. God's paint brush. I was born in the heart of TX, raised in the piney woods of East TX but bleed Razorback red. I miss those mountains and hills. What a wonderful part of the world. Thank you for posting this.
Just did this route before Thanksgiving. A few points of advice to anyone heading out on it: 1) This is NOT a beginner trail. You will definitely get scratches on your vehicle from the tight, seldomly-travelled routes. 2) Do NOT attempt this solo. There are countless bog holes and water crossings where a second vehicle will be invaluable if recovery is needed. Recovery gear is REQUIRED! 3) Check EVERY bog hole for water depth and bottom surface quality. There are some bottomless bog holes out there that have been dug out by huge tires. 3.5) Keep recovery gear close at hand. When things go pear-shaped when water is involved, time matters, as seen in the video. 4) There are bypass routes on several of the bog holes. These are almost always torn up WORSE than the main track. 5) At the very start of the trail the road into Woolam Ford has been blocked off. The road to the right of the closure will loop back around to the ford and is open as of 11/2022. 6) Larger vans & sport mobiles will find the self roads to be too narrow. Erosion is continually eating away at these shelves and there have been some very narrow bypasses cut into the woods. I think Land Cruisers or other full-size rigs will have a very hard time in this section. Beware of the undercutting on the trail from erosion. It's an amazingly diverse route with lots of different types of challenges. Thanks to the author for putting this together!
@@jacobarnold5885 I'm not super familiar with sxs, but I would be concerned with the first crossing of the Buffalo river near st Joe. It would likely be over the tires most of the year. Wouldn't attempt solo. Need a winch in the group. Check the bog holes for depth.
@@Rob-jq3zu most trails will be no problem for a tundra. On this route, there are a few tight spots that will be an extra challenge in such a wide/long vehicle. Such as the shelf road by the creek.
Videos keep getting better. Thanks for the hard work. Also, thanks for demonstrating the proper way to cross mudholes and streams. Too many think it's an opportunity to make as big a splash as they can, destroying and eventually closing our trails. Wonderful trail respect 👍👍
Those are some serious water crossings! The trail at the end looked fun... I'd like to take the Tundra up it! Great video. I don't watch a lot of RUclips videos, but really enjoyed this one.
Great movie! The drone shots along with the powerful music make this truly an epic experience. Your passion for overlanding shows through in this production. Thank you for doing this! 🙏
Main benefit for my cold air intake is that it opened up a ton of real estate to mount my air compressor. Never regretted it for a moment. I have a 100w flexible solar panel on my roof tent and it helps keep my battryntopped up. I find I need the extra boost in hot weather.
Great job from all angles regarding camera work!! The water crossings and wheeling were fun and the camping looked fulfilling. Thanks for bringing us along. From North East Georgia.
Bummer for Robert.....Back in my wheelin' days most trips were great but every once in a while I would have a day that made me wish I had just stayed home.
Great video ! Was born in MO. And sure do miss the real woods and creeks ended up in Central Texas building up our Power Wagon for adventures, retirement in 4 years ! Thanks for your hard work making these videos.
Saw you pass us at the first camp site! Sorry to have taken the spot y’all wanted but it was super cool to see the crew that made the OOAT possible, on our very first trip to the Ozarks. Made it through day 3 can’t wait to get back and finish it.
at 1:19:07 I got stuck in that middle path this weekend. It swallowed my gladiator whole. The left path you took has also gotten deeper since this video so heads up to anyone who takes this route. Take the right path as it is currently the shallowest just look out for the under-water log at the far end. If you do get stuck in here expect to be covered head-to-toe in mud. My mechanic is going to be a happy camper lol
Thank you so much for your videos. I’m a beginner and considered this trail, but after watching and being educated, I realize it is way beyond my confidence level and ability. Without watching, I may have attempted and gotten hemmed up.
What an AWESOME video!!! I really appreciate all of the time you put into filming and editing the videos. Thanks for taking us along on your journeys!!!

Awesome video! Was an awesome video to cast to my TV. Big screen really does those drone shots justice! It was cool to see my handiwork still there on the chalkboard in the school house “The Oklahomies”
While it was an amazing video, there was a heck of a lot of NOPE in it. Leave out the mud pits and deep water stuff and I’m all for it. Absolutely loved the overhead drone stuff snaking through the woods. Sorry that Robert had the issues he did and hope it all dried out well.
Hello, I am in Oregon State now but I grew up in Missouri, canoeing and camping on rivers and streams all over the Ozarks. I've had all manner of SUV, never a proper overlanding rig. Currently roaming up and down the West coast in circa 2000 Denali XL and loving it. Great content, keep it up!
My family was raised up on and around the banks of Current River and Eleven Point going back a few generations. I would be super interested in any content around or dealing with the Eleven Point. Gravel roads, campgrounds, anything that might be fun or useful on my next trip back. Be good!
Great video footage. It was very cool to see footage of some of the same crossing we did earlier this past summer. Thanks for putting in the work in making this video.
Well put together video and Trail. You guys wheel responsibly. The video does a great job of showing many of the crossings and obstacles, along with some great side adventures. Thank you for sharing.
Great Video! I watched every minute of it. I could tell you put some effort in it. I'm a local from here and its nice to see someone doing these videos of our natural state!!
Excellent footage; looks like a lot of fun out there. Pretty rough time for the 4Runner though … 25:2543:19 & the engine not wanting to start shortly thereafter.
I’m new to the channel and enjoying all of the content. Very professionally done. It is really great seeing all of this local scenery, I am in Springfield. Stay safe!
Well Toyota won't be using this as a commercial anytime soon, lol. Really enjoyed the video, I will be exploring the Ozarks Feb 16/20 hope I miss some of the holes and crossing I don't have a snorkel yet!
Yeah…my 4Runner did better on the bonfire run…or I should say I’d did better. I made a stupid mistake with the mud hole…any vehicle…including a Jeep would not run well with water in the gas tank.
Best video I’ve seen in a while! Such awesome trailer and just wow to the water crossings. We don’t have anything like that in my area of Middle TN. Keep up the great content and have fun!
First went to the Buffalo River back in the 70s with the Boy Scouts to canoe it. Later on discovered Horseshoe Canyon Ranch near Jasper for rock climbing. Love that whole Buffalo River area.
Hey Matt, this is by far my favorite video. I have really enjoyed all of your videos. I'm new to your channel, and I can honestly say Ozark Overland Adventures is fast becoming my favorite! Thank you for your hard work and dedication to your channel. Great job! Watching from Texas.
Awesome Movie….Definitely enjoyed watching the adventure. I’m from Southern California and would love to someday take our overland tundra out that way to do some of these amazing water crossings I’ve seen in your channel. Thank you for sharing but these are definitely goals for me and also soon to get my wife a jeep she’s been wanting for a good while.
I'm just going to say it; that 4 runner looked exhausted trying to keep up with those jeeps. Makes me wonder if all the trouble it was having was from the driver or was it the 4 Runner. Either way, I will be marking a 4 runner off my list of vehicles for overland consideration.
I think the driver had a mental lapse :/ . If you go back and watch the bon fire episodes you will see the 4runner did pretty well running with jeeps on 35's. I wouldn't cross it off the list. I love my 4runner but I have put a lot of work in her to help her "keep up" with those Rubicons. If you want to do some extreme of roading it is hard to beat a jeep. That being said if you want a comfortable ride and haul a lot of gear, it's hard to beat the 4runner.
On top of the great last response, if you think you’ll never get stuck or make a mistake off-road, you may want to skip the hobby entirely. Over my years of this hobby, it’s less about the vehicle and more about the driver/spotter. There are lots of cases where a jeep on 35s is out wheeled by a Toyota (taco or 4Runner) on 33s. Bigger tires help, but 1-2 inches isn’t always going to keep you from where you’re going. It may make things easier, but rarely (for most overlanding) will entirely impede you.
You can have a very good car, but if you don't drive correctly you can blow them up. At no time did I see the guys lift the hood to see the possible problem. This video seems more like a jeep face to toyota promo hehe.
Always before doing water crossing like that .. TIP: SPRAY ALL DOOR SEAL WITH WD40 it will help keep water out . If your seals are in good shape 😉 Good video 👍
Great video, I'm up at the northern end of Missouri, the land of corn and beans. Lol. A jeep has always been on my want list but currently my two sons and I overland on dual sports. Love to try this trail but we'd have to catch it with water levels a bit lower. Thanks for the vids and just subscribed.
