    Cryptobiotic soil crusts - Thanks for taking the time to discuss that at 1:54:24! Super important to be aware of where you're stepping in the deserts, especially in the drier months when it will sometimes almost look like the dirt it's covering other than the texture giving it away if you're looking for it.

    Lord, please don't let me find out. I'm old and have never done this. It's been a dream for years. I'm 40 now and have traveled to three states away from where I live. It's frustrating that some people can do this like it's normal because they're so used to it. What one man finds normal, another man has dreamed about for years while trying to save up just to hit the open road for about four to five months with nothing planned, just to see where he ends up. While thinking of this trip when I was young, I wanted to do it solo, with enough funds to be comfortable, no one to hold me back, and no rush to get back. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Now, I have two kids, and I'm watching one of them get his diploma while bouncing his baby sister, who just started kindergarten. I'm cool, calm, and very calm. So, let's do this one more time. I'm praying that while watching my daughter graduate, I know I will shed a tear, but my prayer is for the tear I'm hiding (because men don't cry) to be from a young dream of seeing the world by myself that didn't happen to having a loaded off road rv to drive anywhere i want .Some prayers don't happen until later in life when the memories that i made won't leave with me because of the Polaroids i can't find. To now make memories with family to share for years to come. So if u find ya self having a bad day, you keep that head held high cause we all know having it call The Ground will have people really confused. I dont know why i just typed that to a bunch of strangers. Idk yall have a good day. the weather is great tomorrow. it depends on where u live said the weather man. O, and the guy waiting on his change turned around and told me. Got to love casual conversation. Im done

    Sticky wet snow ❄️ that turns into ice vbar chains are literally a life saver. For deep cold dry snow chains are little to no advantage. Also snow on top of ice chains are excellent. Really deep snow chains try to dig down to china ruining your flotation. Also like sand turning sharp in deep snow must be avoided.

    Snow socks are such and interesting idea. They may work okay but chains seem to serve much more of a purpose in snow like this. I have used chains in major snow and had great success, yes they are bulky and sometimes not the easiest to put on but when your truck is buried to the frame in wet icy snow, you realize why chains are important. Snow socks would not have done a bit of good on the deep snow days in the mountains.

    • @RevereOverland
      @RevereOverland  Месяц назад +1

      It very much depends on the snow. For early on in the video, chains would probably be better, but socks were just fine. Later in the video the socks worked fine most the time, but the chains did better on the super dry powdery slope. The truck did get buried to the frame in the snow, but it happened because of the chains digging in after they broke through an icy layer of the snow that socks were staying on top of.
      This winter I have socks for the front and chains for the back. I can’t run chains on the front of my Tundra.

      Geo-Tagging means posting coords...Rob didn't post coords for anything I saw in this video. As far as naming the towns we visited, I don't think that causes any more harm than an episode of Outdoor Idaho on public television, or basically anything on the Nat Geo channel.

      You are on the wrong track, and selfish. I've spent some 7 decades living in and visiting small towns and the vast majority want to be featured so they get more business. Visitors help pay for police, fire department, etc. I grew up in an old mining town of 300.

      @@RevereOverland I live In a small town that’s gone from busy and thriving to overwhelmed and unsustainable. I’d rather be on their end of the spectrum. Maybe I need to move. But iv seen first hand the effects of influencers on a wilderness area for the negative. Not positive. Glad the locals want traffic there but iv been there and really don’t see how anyone Atlanta could want people to visit. In my experience the more people bring the bad actors. Better to leave it to those who FIND it on their own who will fully enjoy it for the fun of the adventure. Not to say they went somewhere they saw on RUclips. Differing perspectives. Make the video. Have the fun. Just don’t say where you’re going. Doing a historical video is vastly different than what you’re doing with an overland type video “inspiring” others to do the same…

      @Venture2Roam 2 месяца назад +2

      @@ConlonKiffneyPhoto I respect your perspective, and don't discount your experience with people visiting a place you love. I also agree that posting coords can do some harm. That said, no coords were posted here. Additionally, there are two sides to this issue since there are many cases where a little bit of extra exposure and encouragement from us to be respectful visitors brings more visitors and helps the towns stay alive, or thrive. I think Rob does a good job of showing a place in a respectful manner, setting a good example of how to travel, and being a steward of the land.
