My best friend recommended Ghost to me for years. Never did I follow his advice until tonight. This is the first song I listened to, and boy do I regret not listening to it sooner. Now that our roads took us down separate paths and that we are not best friends anymore, this feels... saddening. Listening to this I feel like something's with me. A remnant of something full of good and bad times, happiness and depression, memories to be kept cherished forever. A presence of something so familiar, like a hand of someone dear on my shoulder, even though nothing's there. I feel like I've lost myself with his leaving, and listening to Ghost feels like the only way I can feel his presence still with me - a friend dearly missed. Wherever you are mate, take good care and all the best to you. I miss you, and thank you for all the good times we spent together - and thank you for recommending this absolutely amazing band, you truly have good taste in music.

But no one talking about the real freemasonry and other religious references, from 0:01 to 3:59 of the song on both video and lyrics, references that go from hand signs, symbolisms, the eye that sees it all, to explicit lyrics... 💀 This is such a master piece from much more than the asthetics of the video and the band.
Heard this song at some random music thing we were doing at my school (wausau west) yesterday on Friday March 1st 2024, and person who did that song, i doubt you're reading this, but in the event you are, you were my favorite act, and thank you for introducing me to this, my new favorite band.
Ahh the band that survived me during my college days. It was the fall of '18 when I first listened to Square Hanmer and Year Zero and didn't know that day would be the day that I fell in love with Ghost. Tobias Forge is a genius.
I also noticed how Papa casually adjust his hair at 2:45! Heh, like: "Shit's going down but hell if I'm going to have a bad hair day just because of some bats!"
I love how extra Papa is in this video. Best highlighted by the part where he leaves the theater. He could have just taken a step or two forward and then just turned and left, but instead he does this goofy step-thing where he tries to avoid stepping on everyone's feet, as if he's in a row farther back. I love it.
It is the riff and how the notes are put together. I can't explain in english, but the last note of the solo makes your brain to ask/need for the first one, so you always want to hear the riff.
I literally only discovered Ghost a week ago and I am ridiculously obsessed with this song and video. The song itself is mindblowingly good but I can't get over how perfect every single split second of movement in this video is: the way Papa holds up his hands after getting out of the limo, enters the theatre and then greets the fans with the ghouls during the first chorus, the Chaplin-esque way he exits the theatre, the bats forming into the spectre in front of the moon as the final chorus plays...it's just perfection in every way. Kudos to the director.
This is a band who is very good and confident at their craft, and they're having a lot of fun with it. They're conceptualizing and making art. I hope they continue to have fun and do whatever the hell they want to do.
They were a blast to watch live years ago. I'm so glad the singer ditched the weird Al impression on their CD.. Their live performance sounded better than the CDs...
I dismissed Ghost back during their Opus Eponymous days. A few weeks ago I was on a road trip and a local rock station played Square Hammer. I’ve spent the past two weeks digesting all of their music. Holy shit!! New favorite band alert! I’m just mad I’ve missed over 10 years of them!! Forgive me, Papa!!
That’s fair enough i can’t really get into the first 2albums but there is that seismic shift from Meloria (?) album just in one step/release where this power riff stuff and the poppier singing is introduced. Think it’s great how it’s all swishing about pulling in all these roulette details that not only hint at influences but do something new too
I went to see Iron Maiden a few years ago and Ghost opened the show with Square Hammer. One of those, “Where the hell have you been all my life?”, moments.
Dude it happened to me too only I had heard the song “The ritual” before and I totally lost it when I saw who was opening for Maiden. That was maybe 5-6 years ago, in Sofia Bulgaria.
I also saw Ghost open for Iron Maiden a few years ago in St. Paul, Minnesota. Tobias was on stage talking about female orgasms lol. It was hilarious. It was also what got me to buy the tickets as I had seen Ghost once before at a rock festival. Didnt know who they were at the time but I fell in love with em right away!
Its cool to see so many people discovering this song. I found it a number of years ago and thought it was really great. Good to see others enjoying it too.
its a good song but the beginning the piano or synthesizer sounds a bit "not rounded" esp. the end of the synth. part is a bit odd in my ears.. but its overall very good
I've been a fan since 2013 and it warms my heart to see so many new Ghost fans. Came back to the video on this the night of Impera being released...I've got Watcher in the Sky going and it reminded me of the music videos for Square Hammer and Pinnacle to the Pit
Greg Renken You should check out the song “Shippensburg” by CKY. It might have inspired the riff to this song. ruclips.net/video/MOmOwbjhHKQ/видео.html
I thank you for the Rite here Rite now movie. That's how I discovered you guys. Thank you so much for the awesome music!!!! I can't get enough of you guys.
Ghost's look does not match their sound. This is a big slap in the face which I really love. I was turned off at first because I expected loud crunchy guitars. I became a fan because of the band's fun personality and easy to listen metal/rock tone. Great band.
yes, I too was hesitant to listen to them because of how they looked. I thought it was going to sound like death metal where you can't understand the grunts and howls. but I heard them on waaf radio and then went to youtube and saw who it was. I was super surprised and now they are my favorite band.
This is the first song i heard from the band, and it was the one that made me fall in love with them until today. As a band they mean a lot to me, they accompanied me from pre-adolescent to now, that i'm an adult. I can only love them forever. Thanks GHOST ❤️❤️
This was my first ghost song. My dad showed me the bad in 2020 and i fell in love. I'm so glad this is what he showed me before 2022 ruined my life. This is the last connection to my old happy self. Thank you ghost for keeping me grounded
I found this song and I listened to Ghost for the first time a couple of days ago. Since then my brain: “ARE YOU ON THE SQUAREEEEE ARE YOU ON THE LEVEEEL”!!!
I am surprised in all of the comments I have read, with people catching up references, sneaky moves (Papa adjusting his hair casually at 2:45 is gold) , no one ever mentioned that the footage is synchronised with the lyrics and at 3:33 he stands up exactly when the lyrics say "stand". Subtle, and brilliant.
@@TheOfficialSpectralz well yeah i just heard about them about a day ago. i’m really interested in them and i think they’re really cool and interesting! so far i’ve only seen two songs from them lol
@@whatisthepointofthis1 Not all. Bands, other than All Time Low, use instruments. I say ATL, because their new music is shit. It's pop. They don't even play their instruments.
From my understanding, Tobias has always been more influenced by hard rock/metal/occult bands from the 70s and 80s. If you'd like a harder sound w/ his vocals, you might like "Repugnant", the band he was in under his stage name Mary Goore.
I discovered Ghost a few days ago. I knew there was this band with a singer who looked like a sinister priest but i didn't really notice it was them until now. Always thought they were some over the top black metal band, but man I was so wrong...never expected them to rock this much! Catchy riffs, clever lyrics, and this whole theatrical horror show. Can't stop listening to their music. It's addictive. Help. lol.

I'll soon be 50 and a metal head. I heard these guys many years ago and was like not bad but never grabbed me. Just recently I had them pop up in my feed on here and heard Cirice which I think is the song I heard many years ago. I'll be seeing them in February and can't wait. One hell of a band they are.
What a masterpiece, I’ve been listening to this song for days and I’m not one hit bored of it. The way this song makes you feel only from the melody and the vocals themselves, that’s how you know this is pure quality music
I can't wait to see them this weekend. What are they like on stage? I reckon they would be seriously tight man. Fingers crossed we get a new record eh ;)
It's a pretty awesome experience; when I went, the crowd was absolutely nuts, and the songs were just full of energy. The lead singer also did a lot of little asides, talking to the audience and cracking jokes while still looking papal and proper, haha. It was a great show, you're gonna have a blast.
I have to say you guys, Ghost did not disappoint. I would have to say that the band would probably be my favourite of the festival if I'm totally honest! Absolutely astonishing production and "Square Hammer" was just amazing! Cannot wait to write all about it. Good recommendation ;)
I am completely hooked!!!!!! My son passed away in Sept and he and I were going to see them together when they came close enough to Norfolk VA to go but sadly his life was ended when some unknown person decided to shoot off a gun into the street. It went straight through his beautiful head. He was such a good man that would do anything for Anyone. I will have to go for both of us. I pray when that day comes I can see the show through my tears. His favorite song with square hammer.
He's, rocking with you... Right here, right now... Dance my friend, dance and hold the memories close. After all thats all there is to life...memories. Saying a prayer for your joy and happiness to return.... Love you fellow human...
Really... cause this is so gay... can you picture say their fan base and PANTERA'S at the same venue 😂😂😂 In one corner you have... this and their millennial fans And in the other corner you have PANTERA.. and their hardcore 1990s fans that range from teens to roofers that snort an 8-ball a day. I would pay to see that show 🤓🤓🤓

Ahh the band that survived me during my college days. It was the fall of '18 when I first listened to Square Hanmer and Year Zero and didn't know that day would be the day that I fell in love with Ghost. Tobias Forge is a genius.
I found this song by accident and it was the best mistake I've ever made
My parents said I was they best mistake they ever made.. they wrong tho
My parents said my birth was the best mistake they ever made
It's a great song
Same here I try to listen to it on a daily lol
Behold, a Satanic Bob Ross moment! Rare these are...
Ghost does not know how to make a bad song. I will stand by that statement until I die.
BJ for my Pennis Imma change my statement; I will stand by that FOREVER, even after death.
+Vriska Serket Fair enough.
Marionette sucks
Mummy Dust is actually pretty disappointing
Abel Catacho Totally agree, and I don't know why so much people like this song. I never felt any kind of empathy about this song.
Love how at 3:32 Papa Em stands up and shuffles awkwardly past the ghouls even though he's on the front row...
Bad Weather they are all fired now 👌
They weren't ready to swear right here right now before the devil
Was just about to write that, haha! That shuffle is amazingly hilarious!
Bad Weather lol
I also noticed how Papa casually adjust his hair at 2:45! Heh, like: "Shit's going down but hell if I'm going to have a bad hair day just because of some bats!"
This song is amazing. I’m such a fan. I can’t wait to see what happens next for ghost
I love how extra Papa is in this video. Best highlighted by the part where he leaves the theater. He could have just taken a step or two forward and then just turned and left, but instead he does this goofy step-thing where he tries to avoid stepping on everyone's feet, as if he's in a row farther back. I love it.
I think it's fairly obvious Tobias has some theatre/acting training. It really shows in his video performances.
Its actually someone else playing Papa in this video, Brendan McGowan (his name appears on the theatre sign) :)
Anyone under 60 calling themselves Papa has issues.... But you using the moniker is worse.
@@ws8080 It stands for Pope, as in "papacy" ya dummy. Guess you freudically let your daddy fetish slip.

THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT THIS SONG THAT IS SO ADDICTIVE!!!!!!!
IKR! I have listened over and over since I heard it in the car radio! Catchy and addictive. Video makes it even better!
The song is supported by Dark powers ^(>_
It is the riff and how the notes are put together. I can't explain in english, but the last note of the solo makes your brain to ask/need for the first one, so you always want to hear the riff.
It's the snare
Matt Ryan That keyboard be jamming my doot.
We're all being indoctrinated. Listened to it on repeat dunno how many times today alone.
Guess we're on the square.
Rightttt!!! I love this video 😁
Get the new album Prequelle,You

agreed with everything you said!
Actually acting is not so great
Ghost is my favorite band and this is one of my top 3 fav songs by them thank you Ghost for all your awesome music
ToolofSociety What's that about a Weird Al impression?
Saxton Hale i saw them live in montreal and they were incredible. They put on a great show and their music sounds amazing live.
I can imagine. Everything I've seen them do live here on RUclips has been perfection.

Think it’s great how it’s all swishing about pulling in all these roulette details that not only hint at influences but do something new too
Same here today
Didnt know who they were at the time but I fell in love with em right away!
same happened here in mexico
Me too but in Chile, 2013

Its cool to see so many people discovering this song. I found it a number of years ago and thought it was really great. Good to see others enjoying it too.
its a good song but the beginning the piano or synthesizer sounds a bit "not rounded" esp. the end of the synth. part is a bit odd in my ears..
but its overall very good
I've been a fan since 2013 and it warms my heart to see so many new Ghost fans. Came back to the video on this the night of Impera being released...I've got Watcher in the Sky going and it reminded me of the music videos for Square Hammer and Pinnacle to the Pit

look, bangers can come from any genre, that’s why i love funk so much
Ghost's look does not match their sound.
I see it as part of the act. The devil knows you won’t lead the lamb by sounding scary, he’d send someone to serenade the masses, like papa
Oh, they have the crunching guitars too. But it's more 80s style crunch than 90s grunge distortion.
YEAH!! it’s like.. it gives off goofy disney villain vibes
like it’s spooky but in a silly way!! which i absolutely love so much
I was expecting something dark & mean spirited and not a lot of fun. Like Marilyn Manson or something. But they’ve become one of my favorite bands.
Usually i dont like music videos, they generally have nothing to do with the song, but this one is pretty cool.
Dressy One22 their Cirice music vid is pretty cool too.
Dressy One22 Yeah, I loved the style of this one. Classic silent film era stuff
