I was wondering why Papa looked so young
Then I realized that I'm a fucking idiot
Sherbet Fox hahaha you deserves a price
why ?
momobabo50 It's a school performance played by kids, it's not the actual band.
OMF I didn't even notice that until you pointed it out.
Sherbet Fox same
I don't see people mentioning how well this kid acts in this. Creepily having a heart-to-heart with you convincing you to join him.
Yes! I've been looking to see who notices thos kid singing this song lol! He puts his whole heart into this and it shows
Very rare to find a good child actor. Part of the reason I hate child actors.... and children in general i guess, but that's not because some are actors
Young Ghost was presented really well in the video, I agree. It takes a lot of talent to carry off a grade-school _Carrie_ adaptation.
i think the grown actress was in the year zero video right
@@fartmangaming9272 you hate children because they're bad actors?
Man, that kid has a rediculously awesome stage presence.

That perfect theater bow at the end kills me. What a little performer.
If I’m correct, I believe it is Tobia’s son performing!

I love how mini papa's parents are so proud.
"thats our boy causing a lil satanic panic at the school show"
Their lil boy won a Grammy.
I never ever considered that they were his parents, just thought it was a couple that really enjoyed the show, but that makes sense.
@@ThePaul3210 Definitely intended to be his proud parents.
@@adgato75 Satanic Panic is a great band name, ngl.
@@overthecounterbeanie There is a film named that, I think. It was actually a phrase used a lot in the 80s. When there was an actual "Satanic Panic" , IE Dungeons & Dragons and heavy metal backmasking controversies, etc.

As someone with extreme religious trauma this song just hits the spot man
For sure, I was practically hyperventilating the first time I experienced this.
what is religious trauma? i think i have this
its when you struggle leaving your religion behind, it feels wrong to stay, it feels wrong to go. I also suffer from this and have been for a long time
fr it always scratches that part of my brain perfectly
When he said, "i know your soul is not tainted, even though you've been told so.." I got chills and cried.
This song was sung by my babygirl at a karaoke night. I feel in love at that moment. I think this might become a wedding dance one day

My favorite part of it all is how those 2 people are sitting there loving this while everyone else is hating the music and being choked out eventually.
This is how I sometimes feel working with youth. Too many times, parents and coworkers don’t understand the dark creativity of the “weirdos” (a term I use endearingly). The weirdo kids are too X or too Y, not enough A or B. And that’s fine! They are great at being X! Let’s nurture X! Like the two adults clapping at the end, I am their biggest fan!! I was like Cirice growing up, reaching out for something true to myself but being held back by social expectations, held back by religious cult nonsense I was subjected to. So I support the weird kids because I was a weird kid needing support. I love the child actors here, but the clapping adults at the end are so necessary. I feel either end of my life’s story in this music video.
What a riff.
I discovered this band only a week ago and am kicking myself for not discovering them sooner. Great songwriting.
My favourite band to come out of the 21st century.
Dude SAME, I just started listening to their music like a week ago currently obsessed with this song!!

If THAT would have been the storyline for "How I met your mother" (American sitcom that I hated) I would have watched it "religiously".
That’s how I wanna meet my husband
Cirice hits me so hard for most of the lines. I can't explain how it feels mildly toxic (prolly because can't you see that you're lost) but also loving and truly seeing the other person.
I can see that, but I feel more like it is a person who is lost and needs an anchor to help her get out. Once she is out and can stand on her own two feet, she will not need the anchor anymore. The anchor is there to prevent her from getting lost for the time being.
This song is quite literally about the Devil seeing a young woman in her time of need and telling her exactly what she wants to hear to entrap her in his snare (the mellow voice backed by the heavy and sinister instrumental line is used to convey this dichotomy of the Persona worn and the true intent). This song is a representation of how a cult or an abusive relationship is born in general, so it definitely falls more into the "completely toxic" that just "mildly toxic"
@@sephikong8323 "quite literally" So you asked Papa about what it meant, or are you reading into it what you wish?
@@sephikong8323 That explanation sounds a lot more like the church to be honest
@@MsLemon42 I mean, both are true. The song is meant to be both a criticism of religious indoctrination and an example of religious indoctrination. Essentially, "Don't join their weird religious cult because they said that they can help fix your problems, join our weird religious cult because we can help fix your problems."
I was in religion class. The teacher gave us a break and asked us to play music. I asked to put this song. The girls removed it very quickly. I wish they knew how good ghost is.
I'd love to be friends because same.
Ngl i gotta agree, my parents are catholic and they just can’t see how good ghost and their songs are, they love rock music too tho ;-;
I am a teacher. I have played “Hunter’s Moon” after playing the “Halloween” theme and briefly describing the story. I do this to illustrate how to properly write an essay: you take information from other sources but you’re supposed to create an original concept. The reader of your essay should be able to see the obvious influences of your sources, but still learn something from how you arrange the information in a new or special way.
It actually works really well to illustrate the concept!
These songs are literally about Satan guys 💀
@@666LifeEternal it sounds more like about a girl he likes lol

@@SatanusGhoul FACTS THOUGH-
Ty
I love this music video so much. It's legitimately like the finale of a dark 80s movie about a psychic, outsider young girl who is presented with the choice of either suppressing herself and staying in line with society or being true to herself and choosing to embrace what makes her an outsider, and she chooses the latter. The textures and colours and lighting of the video are just gorgeous.
i feel the same way
It made me think of Carrie ngl
That's the vibe I get. A person who's always meant to be on the outside, struggling with who they are which is something I grew up with
One and only concert I have been to was Ghost. 🤯🙇♂️
The children every metalhead wants.
Nah, I rather have a kid be like Kerry King.
Attack on Titan
I was expecting a mini 'Catherine' Corpsegrinder. But I got a grandma who cleans toilets without being asked
My nieces are pretty close - this summer the eldest (who is 8) went to see Iron Maiden with her dad, as her first "real" concert. She was there in a vintage tee cut down to fit her, with blue streaks in her hair, throwing the horns as hard as anyone else. She was so excited to see both Bruce and Eddie. What a hell of a kid!
Yes
The lyric "I know you're soul is not tainted, even though you've been told so." is what made this song my favorite. I was raised Baptist. And i was told it was my fault that my grandfather died cause i didnt pray enough and i didnt fully love god, later it was when i realized i was bi and hearing all the sermons about how it was wrong hurt alot. At one point i really believed the church and i fully believed that i was horrible and messed up untill finally i broke free. That single lyric summed up all my religious trauma and made me truly love and appreciate this band.
You and me both, that lyric is going on my wall.
As a person raised Catholic, I can say you aren't alone in your experience. My parents always told me if I ended up being one of those sinful people who have sex with the same gender, or those that have 'pronouns' I'd immediately be outcasted and sent to hell. Now I'm in college and I have a s/o and use they/them pronouns. I haven't spoken to them since I came out, and I couldn't be happier.
I'm very sorry to hear about your struggles to find your identity amidst the environment you grew up in. I thankfully didn't grow up with with a religious influence in my life, but that still didn't really stop the people I knew from practically demonising various sexualities & gender identities that differed from the "norm". People I was supposed to look up to and learn from indirectly telling me that I was wrong or a mistake fucking sucked. I hope you're doing much better nowadays anyway, my friendo.
lies of the devil! believe God loves you regardless of what other people tell you!
I was in a simular experience with the church. When i was in school, i took it to heart and it had me stressing worse than school was because i tried so hard to be like the bible wanted me to be, but i had a job working night shift and decided to start doing my own thing. I have since then grown in many ways becoming even better than that church wanted me to be. I've now become non-denominational, because it allows me to freely think for myself rather than belive what the preacher is telling me, but aside from the church, my life is going better than ever imo. Sorry about how the church did you though. Thats just wrong in every way.
Still their best song and it has aged very well. Timeless rock song.

Ghost's instrument players may play masked, but for the love, they damn well play *damn well.*
thats called rock and roll.
Thing is the lead singer is the one playing most/all the instruments in the recording of the song 😂 he only has other musicians join him on tour for the most part
Guitar solos are a huge part of Rock!! Unfortunately, alot of modern bands have steered away from it. Most likely why it's strange for you to hear a band feature the guitar solo.
Dig deeper into the history of rock...you'll find LOADS of prominent guitar solos!! 😁
Ghost is one of the greatsat bands of our time. Some bands comes earlier and were misunderstood because that, but Ghost came too late. 10 years earlier and they would be even greater than they are.

My first ever Ghost song. ❤ Their music resonates like nothing else ❤
This whole album... and the band itself...is simply amazing! Just saw them last night in SLC, Utah and they crushed it! I've been to a LOT of concerts in my 53 years and those two guitarists have to be amongst the most talented musicians I have ever witnessed. I mean...stellar technical ability and showmanship! On a funny note, when I play this song for people I know, they LOVE it and ask what it's about. I live in Utah, so those are typically deeply religious people. I'm a pretty blunt guy, so I straight-up tell them the truth....I'll leave it at that. 😉
To many changes of band members
Clean vocals are sinister as fuck...its like the beach boys saw the end of the world.
+guitarkidification That is an amazing comment right there.
+Gern Blensten It's so true though. I still remember an interview I saw quite a while ago where one of the Nameless Ghouls said that one of the band's favorite albums is Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys cause "it sounds like a mix between sunshine and complete dystopic hell." Ghost really has unsettling melodic sounds down pat.
Surely it's most intriguing and emotive than hearing most black/death metal singers beeing in a race to see who''s the real DEMON while singing strange words in obscure and unintelligible ways...

LuKazu the woman looks like my math teacher
That couple reminds me of me and my guy. I understand and share their enthusiasm. If not for the internet, we'd have no chance to listen to great music.
In our little slice of the midwest hardly anyone listens to metal: just country, pop, country, country, oh, and country. It's nauseating. And you can't drive half a block without driving by a church.

Ghost is one of the most amazing bands of all time
I'm dying at the kid playing Papa, I can just imagine them directing how he should move like "do some swoopy cool stuff with your arms. And wiggle your fingers too. Be spooky and Pope-y."
I love this comment
I can imagine it
0735 spooky and pope-y lol
I love this, especially since the kid did a kick ass job at being a mini papa
Wait, that wasn't the fucking guy?!?!?
I keep hearing people say that they're not a fan of Papa's vocals, that they don't sound like a metal band. But it's the smoothness to their sound that makes it more disturbing and enticing. Especially in this song and He Is. They don't have to be screaming incoherently like some bands do to grab your attention and sound hardcore, they do it in their own incredible way.
Ghost have never painted themselves as a purely Metal band. Of course Metal is a major influence on their music but they are as equally influenced by music such as Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel and Pink Floyd as they are Heavy Metal. The negative reaction from Metal fans towards this band shows more of their close-minded ignorance than it does Ghost's music, which is flawless.
+Peace Dweller I guess I see them falling under the metal category because they do as well, in an interview (I can't remember if it was Omega or Special) they said they don't really care if other people don't see them as a Metal band because they do. But I agree, one of the wonderful things about this band is their multi genre influence.
His voice grew on me
My mother is a volunteer for the Red Cross and she was on the festival Graspop. She usually doesn't like anything that comes close to metal but she told us she suddenly heard music that wasn't that "hard" as everthing else. And she told us she nearly liked it. For me personally the fact that I haven't seen any other band like them makes me love them just because they are different and still great in their own way.
Ugh fuck metalheads. Just because this isn't some progressive groove death symphonic speed melodic thrash metal band doesn't mean its not metal.

It's nice to hear modern metal that is not just growling and drop WTF djent. This sounds very nice, yet heavy. It's a great introduction for newcomers to metal.
Ludvig R Agreed.
+Ziggy HunkSpunk Very much so. A great band with a promising future.
+Ziggy HunkSpunk not every band is growling and djent... >___>
JohnTheDrummer88 Yeah, that's kinda my point...
+Ziggy HunkSpunk From an old metal head like me its a hell of alot better than fucking EMO, and I like this song.
I haven't gotten a chill down my spine like this in a while.
+kokofan50
New to these guys?
Listen to the entire 'meliora' album, it's a fuckin' ride man.
Yeah, only just heard of them today. I don't listen to newer stuff much. Also, thank for the suggestion; I've got something to listen to tomorrow now.
kokofan50
That's the thing, I don't really listen to a lot of newer rock either.
But these guys aren't like a lot of the newer rock out there. I was skeptical at first too, as I heard all of these people fawning over them. So I listened to 'Meliora' and my perspective completely changed by about 5 songs in....
And you're welcome :D
+Dustin Who? No dude, that's your fantasy fore play before taking it in ass. What you're experiencing is called projection, where you attribute things to others because that what you really want.
kokofan50
Did you listen to the album? What did you think?
"Can't you see that you're lost without me" yes, I am. I am very lost without my 12 daily hours of listening to ghost
I didn’t realize at first that it’s kids playing in the band. I feel stupid! 😂
It makes the whole concept even cooler!
Congrats on the Grammy, well deserved. Now go PARTY!!
+grommet Should have went to Sevendust veterans of metal not some snotty nosed new comers.
Sorry award based on quality not longevity ;-)
And Sevendust way more quality to give 'em a listen sometime.
+Threemiles236 Shut the fuck up sevendust is shit.
+Andrew Hassell Can't say anything intelligent have to go right to the ignorant cursing. I actually respect Grommets comment and the way he delivered it actually made me laugh a little lol. And as for Sevendust compared to this hard rock Ghost band just so awesome right? I guarentee all the real European black metal bands are laughing at these little posers.
I can't stop watching this
me too
saw them at Graspop a few weeks back and have watched this everyday at least once since. Think I have a new favorite band now
Same here!! I've lost count but in 2 days... 50 times easily!! It's so beautiful and dark and I love it!!!
i can
Me too.. the best song
This song is one of my favorites, there’s just something about it. Love the solo’s also
i feel the same
The solo gives me chills each time I listen to it
Jesus. Everytime i come back to watch these music videos i get blown away
The music is brilliant, you can see that ghost focuses on everyone playing, (drums, keyboard, etc) and the child actors are really good in this music video. This has gotta be one of my favourite ghost songs actually
Seen this band live. They are great. But I want to take a moment to appreciate this music video, and all the talented young folks they got to perform in it, as well as the directing and cinematography. Really great throwback horror vibes, really great presence in the principal characters. Bravo.
I was there and in the video and can attest to their talent. They all were very professional and could actually play! The singer kid was amped up the whole time. Tobias was there and kinda directing it but they did have an actual director for the kids.
Seen them live and talked to the cardinal on stage. I have been a fan since the second album always hoping I could see papa2 but seeing them during the rats tour was the best possible option. All their best songs had time to come out!
Absolutely agree on this. That kid playing the lead singer and the girl are really something to behold. Amazing performances.
After many years of dull crap… we finally have bands coming back with “manly” music, using real instrumental talent, and neglecting stupid poetic rap… all that sounds alike. I’m 70 years old, and walking round with Ghost shirts on. They deserve as much advertisement as possible. Videos are as great and original as the 80’s.
@@dancindavey1515 You got me beat Davey,I'm just a young 58 years, seen Judas Priest with a little support act called iron maiden back in the day.I can't get enough of Ghost.
I just played this to my mother and she said it was a great tune. She's off to church in an hour or so. I blessed her and said Amen
When you're Christian and you listen to Ghost.
I listen to this on the way to church, no problem lol
@@amyshort5625 So you listen to a band that actively promotes satanic imagery and the abolition of religion and Christianity in general cause its shit, and go to church? That seems really backwards.
I feel like some people forget that you can enjoy good heavy music with dark themes while not being some Satan worshiping, child sacrificing, blood drinking, anti christ.
I just like the toons man
@@keegantrainor1908 Yes! I'm a Christian who loves Ghost so much!
The ending with his parents clapping is so wholesome.
This band is most excellent. One of the things I am amazed by is how the rest of the band plays with complicated helmets on. Are they struggling to breathe? Those stage lights are hot! How can you even see your instruments? Great job, Ghost.
No one is taking the time to recognise the Kid channeling some serious Papa vibes in the video, he's got the stage presence down!
Perhaps he is of the bloodline?
Perhaps.. the dark lord is strong with this one haha
The "mini papa" is one of the reasons I love this video!!! The kids awesome!
Friggin right?
This song won a Grammy right? Not surprising it is a masterpiece.
Well it was a novel concept, taking metal riffs and costumes and making a pop song out of it. Turned out to be popular I guess wait for the copycats. I guess its been done with punk already so why not metal.
I think it's commercial pop crap. That's what wins Grammys, anyway.
@@MickeyD2012 I don't know what is supposed to win Grammys. I don't care either but that doesn't change it being a great song IMO
Wrong, the grammy won this song getting credibility in the process
@@MickeyD2012 oh boy the original gamer, i guess we now know why you're toxic
I don't know how many times I've watched this video over the years, absolutely love it
i feel the same
Ghost has some very impressive music videos! I wish talent shows were this rad when I was a kid!
I'm doing his song for my 10th grade talent show
record it and upload it
I'm waiting
Righteous! Rock on \m/
Do it. Record it. Post it.
when?
damn papa looks young in this
till i realized I'm a fucking idiot and didn't know these were kids.
Flex RkO HAHAHA, well i thought that too😂😂😂
Same tbh. This was my introduction video to them. I was like, "Wow. He looks so young."
I had to google about the video to figure out it was a fucking kid, lmao.
Children well done,deserved the Oscar!
hahahahhahaahahah
YO WHAT THE FUCK.....this comment makes me feel like a dumb ass.
In my own opinion, this is the best music video and song ever made.
Great video. I agree with everyone commenting on the kids' acting. I love how all the parents start losing their shit and the one couple that was bored through all the beginning were captivated and so, so proud. I would be too. What a performance!
The kid that played Papa was bloody brilliant!
Agreed
I agree too, great job
I guarantee you that some of the ghouls were out in the crowd unmasked.
SidWilson17 The girl is probably the keyboard player.
SidWilson17 Could be. I didn't see Tobias, but that one other guy from Magna Carta Cartel/Ghost is there for sure.
SidWilson17 Blonde guy in gray suit with dark goatee for sure.
August Hebert Exactly what qued me onto it.
The father is Papa Emeritus.
This song is awesome
This song literally wraps around my brain. I love when music is so well developed you really feel immersed in it. ❤️❤️
Also hats off to the kids acting 👏👏
God, it really feels like he means what he's singing to her. This is an awesome video! Both were the perfect actors for this. And the charisma of the boy is especially spectacular. This video gives me chills every time! Absolutely bad ass!
@Hunter Vonnegut thanks will do 🤟🏿
As a Satanist, this describes the beauty of my relationship with my Father. As a conduit,, he probably did mean every word he was singing to her. Truly beautiful
