Sheena Easton was the only artist in the 1980s to have at least one top hit on the four biggest Billboard charts for songs (Hot 100 Chart, Hot A/C, Hot Country Singles & Hot R/B Singles).
Her biggest hit on the Hot 100 was "Morning Train (9 To 5)" that her only#1 hit on the Hot 100 Chart.
She went to #1 on the Hot Country Singles Chart with "We've Got Tonight" - a duet that she did with Kenny Rogers (it was a cover of Bob Seger's original).
She had five top 10 hits on the Hot A/C Singles Chart with her last one being "Almost Over You" in 1983 that went to #4
Though she was featured on Prince's "U Got The Look," the song didn't make the top 10 on the Hot R/B Singles Chart, but her last ever top 10 song on any chart was "The Lover In Me" which peaked at #5 on that chart in 1989 (it went to #2 on the Hot 100 Chart).
I would recommend anyone that has not had the pleasure of hearing her voice to go down that "rabbit hole." She was a great singer.

Awesome comment, Frederick! "The Lover in Me" is a jam! I also liked "What Comes Naturally," although that song did not do as well on the charts.

This was her 3rd Grammy nomination in 4 years after For Your Eyes Only and Telefone as best female pop artist
She had 2 awesome duets with Kenny Rogers and Prince
Outstanding vocalist always tuned and with a voice with a big range from low to high notes :)
Plus keyboards' luxury here with Bruce Hornsby

You can see why Prince liked her. Honestly, I loved her slower stuff even more. I prefer her Wind Beneath My Wings to Bette’s because it felt more sincere v. a case of vocal showmanship. Of course, I think When He Shines, For Your Eyes Only (for the James Bond movie), and Almost Over You are my favorites along with her duet with the great Kenny Rogers, We’ve Got Tonight.

It's interesting what Dereck says about "doesn't matter how cheesy lyrics can be, top notch production pulls of the work". I'd say this is exactly what makes the lousy-voiced non-performer Paula Abdul pull off her 1st album. The lyrics are okay, icky elsewhere, but it's wrapped up with the kind of big-bang that helped make Janet Jackson's most decent album "Rhythm Nation 1814". I don't know why you brought up cheesiness here though as these lyrics are among the many coolest the 80s had to offer. Now one might say that's how madonna the vile gets by: all smoke and mirrors, production sheen masking the turds so to speak, except they don't, but as everyone loves everything that vile troglodyte does it doesn't even NEED hiding does it? No amount of production will help disguise a bad Eurythmics single either.
Sheena sadly got weaker as the 80s went into the 90s, but she had some good stuff in the 80s, 'Machinery' is one of her best, but the US did not really go for it, and it became one of her last Top 40 singles in the UK. Later collaborations with Prince helped, but the songs began spiralling in quality from 1989 onwards. Still she had one of the better strike-rates of females in the 80s, not least cos she's not an American. And thankfully, despite spending more time over there, her stuff does not tend to sound off-puttingly American in tone.

Why not. The music is not clever and you have many tracks like that at the same year. It's catchy, Lirycs OK. Not a huge but nice discovring. Unknown in France except for some hype clubs that time.

Please stop reading the lyrics as the song plays. It's like watching a movie with the subtitles on, it takes you out of the experience if you are reading along.
