@birchleaf yeah but why wouldn't they do it for a song where they were singing solo lead vocals on the original song? Seems strange to do a solo on a song that was originally a duet
For those not around at the time... It's Australia, 1977. Anna is back stage changing for the next song.. THIS is the (NOW CLASSIC!) stage performance that scorched Frida indelibly into every male brain that ever saw this. Many consider this her best ever live performance ! Agnetha was getting changed for 'The Girl With The Golden Hair' mini-musical part of the show, during this performance. Straight after this, Frida also went backstage to quickly get into an identical outfit. During this time, Benny played the instrumental, Intermezzo No.1. The girls wore outfits including wigs to look like marionettes. From a distance it was hard to tell them apart.
Not really. If you watch pictures of their performances of thats song in the 1979 tour, Agnetha is never on stage. Frida is always wearing a local sports jersey. It is part of the act
Chelseaharger is bang on correct. Why Did It Have To Be Me was vocally performed as a duet by Bjorn (Be Urine!) and Frida during the 77 and 79 tours (though there is no video of the 79 performance officially released). From the rare fan videos that exist as part of that tour, Frida keeps delivering the same high octane performance. Definately one of the best ABBA in concert moments...although the 79 live take on 'Summer Night City' is the finest for me.
Frida loved performing on stage, Agnetha was more nervous. LOVE that you are reviewing this live concert. This a film of their Australian tour, the songs sounded amazing. Get on the Carousel & I'm a Marionette in this performance is something I can't stop listening to.

ABBA the Movie, besides the story line, will offer you many great live performances. The interaction with the audience is fabulous. Frida is the most natural performer of all of them. Whereas Agnetha will tell you she loves recording, Frida loves the stage and the audience. This is how she is. Especially on Dancing Queen. But all are great.
Great you finally got to this one. One of the best songs from the ABBA catalog. Frida was having so much fun with this. What a time that must have been. This was clearly a duet with Bjorn and Frida with Benny in backgrounds. I'm sure Agnetha was in the background somewhere. This is on DVD, fantastic. Thanks for this! Try Andante, Andante.
I love this live performance. Frida sounds so good here. She always does. Please react to Tiger from the same concert. Björn was in another band before Abba, called The Hootennanny Singers. It was very popular group in Sweden. Benny was in a band called The Hepstars. They were the biggest band in Scandinavia in their time. Then one time Benny and Björn met and started jamming together. They`ve been the best of friends ever since. And like they say: the rest is music history at it`s best.
In this video DEFINITIVELY is shown that Frida IS ABLE to reach high notes as Agnetha does. Even high notes you imagine is Agnetha who is singing. Bravo, Frida!

This shows the true talent of the group....lovely Frida.....and Bjorn was terrific too. When they gave Frida a chance to take over, she always completely slayed.
Frida was that groups professional vocalist and front and center performer. Took Stig Anderson Polar Music over a year to get Frida on board. Frida been on stage since 1956. Pro since 1958.
This live version with frida singing solo vocals is much much better than the studio album with the gurls singing a duet. The studio version is more dumbed down and the live version much more amped up.
This clip was from ABBA The Movie - the picture you have behind you- which was made during their 1977 tour of Australia. The concerts started with Tiger which is the first song in the movie - in the pouring rain- towards the end they did a mini musical called The Girl With The Golden Hair. that contained 4 songs - Agnetha was of stage getting ready for this and Frida goes off in the next
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for reviewing this live clip, Derreck 😁. It's one of my extreme ABBA-performance faves, and I love it much more than I love the original studio album version (...and I love that version too 😉😊). Another example of ABBA being fantastic live (compared to the original great version); also from 'ABBA the Movie' (and completely uninterrupted with the movie's story) is ABBA's gospel-style 'He Is Your Brother' (also available through RUclips 😊 ...hint, hint 😉), were all four sing and perform with pure electric power. I look forward to you reviewing that one too 😁 Greetings from Australia 👋😃🐨
Dear Dereck. Thankz a lot for reacting to this wonderful live performance. When they recorded the song in the studio, both girls sang the female parts but during the ABBA tours, the song was transformed as a duett between Bjorn and Frida. Thats why Agnetha is not to be seen here.
As @chelseacharger said, Agnetha is out changing. They used this song the same way in their 1979 tour. Agnetha went off the stage, and the rest of the group did this song. Then Frida and Björn went off and Benny did Intermezzo No 1 on his own. Agnetha came back, Benny went out to change and Agnetha sat down at the piano and did one of her own songs 'I'm Still Alive'. A fantastic song that she never recorded in the studio, but is preserved in the bands from some of the concerts.
Let me tell you Dereck that you've called this music anything but what it really is Pure Rock & Roll and they do it fantatically. They started out in 1974 with their Waterloo and it was called pure R&R Revival. They have been true to that kind of music. Even Just a Notion is Rock & Roll. Just listen to the intro!
Yeah!! I'm delighted that you finally got around to this one. 'Frida on Fire' truly sums it up! I'm glad it got you excited like it has so many ABBA fans for years. I've always felt that Frida was the life and soul of the ABBA party, and this is a perfect illustration of it. Agnetha was the lovely, sweet girl next door that you could take home to meet your Mum, whereas Frida was the girl you would head into town to have fun with!! For another 'Frida on Fire' moment you really should check out 'So Long' from the TV special 'Made in Sweden For Export' (1975). I'm pretty sure that'll get you excited too!! Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/Ecnz0VL4y4k/видео.html&ab_channel=Superstellina2012
Dereck needs to watch ‘so long’ from the sweden export thingy. Frida’s even nuttier lol. Agnetha is getting changed for ‘girl with the golden hair’ performance. [frida changes too fwiw]

Great list and plenty with performances to tap into. Can't wait for 'Our Last Summer' (although theres no actual performance) but my top picks for Dereck apart from that one would be 'Dance (While The Music Still Goes On)', 'I've Been Waiting For You', 'That's Me; 'Bang-A-Boomerang', 'Tiger', 'Thank You For The Music', 'I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do', 'My Love My Life', 'So Long', 'Move On', and 'One Man One Woman'. I think 'Watch Out' would scare the hell out of Dereck!
Thanks for a great reaction 😀👍 I can see that you like ABBA live so you should react "Hole in the soul" live in Wembley in 1979 it is high energy there too. Stay safe 💜
This is for true one of their hidden gems, they have many of them, this is for sure very hidden...a big pity that...a great song, great vocals by Benny and Frida...
I never saw this clip... WOW, so good and the reaction was great. I'm sure that Agnetha was probably dressing for a number to follow this song but it's one of my favorite cuts of all their albums but this just made it POP.
Great reactions as always. Surprised you haven't reacted to 'THANKYOU FOR THE MUSIC'...........It had big success in some countries and was in ABBA The Movie.....
Good Lord, I was at this concert, with my mother, I was 9 yrs old and I couldn't believe it was real! Agnetha was there, just not for this song. The studio version is awesome, you should listen to it. The entire 'Arrival' album is solid gold. I was so obsessed, my Mum used to make me outfits, same as what they wore (maybe not the little shorts) lol
Hi Dereck, I am an ABBA fan, I love them to no end. Watching your reaction to this amazing song of theirs makes me love them even more. Thank you so much.
I've never heard this before...I was too young to ever see ABBA live, mainly because my parents would never have let me go on my own as a young teenager, and it would have been in a different city. But this is so much more spontaneous and lively than the studio version: given that it's live, it's surprising that the vocals sound so much stronger. Happy Hawaii - it has to be said that, if you listen to it, you'll realise why it got binned...
The studio version from the LP ARRIVAL is the best recording of the song. There's a different version of the same melody by ABBA if you check out the tune HAPPY HAWAII.
The Australian Tour is the best in terms of their live sound. They had a full orchestra as opposed to the much paired down subsequent tours. You should check out other stuff from the tour. I'm a Marionette from the tour will give you a kick. Also Carousel which was never recorded and bit found its way into Hole in Your Soul. Now as to live sound. They did have to do some overdubs in the studio for the film . I don't know if it was some or all. Some of the sound quality was not sufficient for the film and had to be remixed. There are bootlegs on youtube of songs from the Australian Tour taken by the audience. Being 1977, fans did not have access to the recording facilities of today and they will sound likely quite muffled and tinny. As to giving away age, I was there at the rainy Sydney concert where Frida fell over.
Björn took the lead in numerous ABBA songs, especially their earlier tracks. I would recommend ‘Crazy World’, ‘Another Town, Another Train’, ‘Rock Me’ or ‘King Kong Song’
Funny you should mention Frida's 'bump in the trunk', if you are interested, react to He is Your Brother from the same concert and you'll get a nice view of Agnetha's. :) Australian newspapers were filled with pictures of her rear end. But anyway, both of the girls look fantastic here, the outfits from this concert are my favourite. And they all sound awesome.
This is such a cool song and Frida does have a good voice she started when she was really young it was almost like Opera but in their native language so she's been doing this for a while I think she's actually older than Anita but she's still good looking🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey Dereck, my all time fave ABBA track. I particularly love the lines at the start of the 2nd verse..Men are the toys in the game that you play, when you get tired you throw em away!!!!
This is from one of my favorite movies Abba the Movie featuring them on the road through Australia and a DJ trying to get to them for an interview I absolutely love I’ll be Waiting for you clip from this concert Agnetha sounds amazing on that track!! All of the live concert clips highly recommend too!!!
Frida was the funniest of the group, something curious considering that her life is full of tragedies. Her sense of humor is wonderful.
That's the reason! Sometimes make fun makes your pain less heavy... Believe me 😔I ADORE ANNI-FRID 💕✨
and the more extroverted dancer who seemed to absolutely love being on stage in front of an audience - she revels in it and her joy is infectious
@@crispy5000 Absolutely true. She was always the most energetic of the group. She really transformed on stage, pure joy.

How to cheer up my day - Derek finding a new (to him) ABBA track with freida on lead 😊
Oh my Frida, what a performer ! ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉
One of the Greatest POP groups of ALL TIME
Top class performance of the greatest group ever.
Es una maravilla de la música es la Reina 👸🏻 💃💃💃💃Frida es súper …Maravillosa artista..
I just KNEW you would love this Dereck! Thank You! I went to see them in 1977!
Haven't heard this in years. Your reaction is priceless. Love it Dx
Fantastic Abba and your reaction is priceless 😂 "she went bananas" 😂love it ❤️
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for reviewing this live clip, Derreck 😁.
I look forward to you reviewing that one too 😁
Greetings from Australia 👋😃🐨
Frida BELÍSSIMA
You should look at ABBA The Movie, it contains loads of footage from their 1977 Australian Tour.
I think Dereck should arrange a 'watchalong' night so we can all see him react to ABBA- The Movie for the first time. That would be soooo much fun!!
Or the 1979 tour, especially Does your mother know/hole in hour soul
And, in effect, an alternate video for The Name of the Game.
Let me tell you Dereck that you've called this music anything but what it really is
Pure Rock & Roll and they do it fantatically. They started out in 1974 with their
Waterloo and it was called pure R&R Revival. They have been true to that kind of
music. Even Just a Notion is Rock & Roll. Just listen to the intro!
Great!!!
Agnetha is on studio version with Frida but not on live version. She was in the rest of the concert.
Before becoming part of ABBA Frida was best known as a jazz singer.
Dereck needs to watch ‘so long’ from the sweden export thingy. Frida’s even nuttier lol. Agnetha is getting changed for ‘girl with the golden hair’ performance. [frida changes too fwiw]

@@badlongon525 thanks 🥰
104 songs? That is impressive. There is also the Medley with "Rubber Ball Man, Just like that"
@@resireg OMG I always forget something. Thanks for reminding me.
Bjorn not Benny
Yet another ABBA surprise!!! Benny bouncin, BjOrn and Frida bring the vocals .. Agnetha was otherwise occupied... Australia live shows slay!!! 💜💜💜
Without Agneta it's magnificent!!!
I never saw this clip... WOW, so good and the reaction was great. I'm sure that Agnetha was probably dressing for a number to follow this song but it's one of my favorite cuts of all their albums but this just made it POP.
Great reactions as always.
Surprised you haven't reacted to
'THANKYOU FOR THE MUSIC'...........It had big success in some countries and was in ABBA The Movie.....
And also reggae with "tropicale loveland"!
This song was used in concert for Agnetha to change outfits , they did the same thing on the North American and European Tour in 1979
The studio version from the LP ARRIVAL is the best recording of the song. There's a different version of the same melody by ABBA if you check out the tune HAPPY HAWAII.

I remember requesting this months ago 😁 Awesome! 🙏🏻 It's from "ABBA The Movie" (a movie while they toured in australia) You should watch it!
The live version of "Tiger", also featured in ABBA the Movie, has an amazing Agnetha performance
Love Frida!!!
Acho que você está errado a voz que se ouve em Tiger é da Frida ela sempre foi dominante nos shows ao vivo
Listen to Happy Hawaii. I prefer it!
You should surely check out Abba the Movie. It's a movie about Abba live in Austrialia and there is even a story around it.
I Love this song!
My father used to play saxophone in dance bands.... in the 1930s. So not just 80's , but I know what you mean. Each decade has it's own styles.
This is by far Friday's most bombastic live performance ever. Which is Agnetha's?
Hole in your soul?
This is such a cool song and Frida does have a good voice she started when she was really young it was almost like Opera but in their native language so she's been doing this for a while I think she's actually older than Anita but she's still good looking🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I like that song more and more
You really should try "Put On Your White Sombrero". It's amazing! 🥰
Yes! Try "Put on your white sombrero"
Move On was a better schlager style song for me.
They sure didn't need lip-sync. They have the best vocal arrangements like EVER.
Try another of their songs - Tiger.
Hey Dereck, my all time fave ABBA track. I particularly love the lines at the start of the 2nd verse..Men are the toys in the game that you play, when you get tired you throw em away!!!!
The ladies both had their own singing careers before ABBA so ya she can really sing!
ABBA the movie- i am a Marionette and Get on the carusel ( also live)
Diosa Frida es única 👸🏻👸🏻👸🏻👸🏻💖💖💖💖
This is from one of my favorite movies Abba the Movie featuring them on the road through Australia and a DJ trying to get to them for an interview I absolutely love I’ll be Waiting for you clip from this concert Agnetha sounds amazing on that track!! All of the live concert clips highly recommend too!!!
Frida is the jovial and expressive in the group while Agnetha is a typical shy and reserved Swedish lady.
