Veronique Sanson was Michel's first love, but she fell in love with an american musician. She left Michel to go live in USA. After that, Michel met France Gall, and even if their love was truly deep, he was still somehow nostalgic about Veronique. The legend says he wrote this song about their break up. It became the biggest hit of his album (which title means "How love is bizarre").
Veronique heard the song, while living in USA she wrote another song to respond to him.
"Je serai là" (I'll be there) is a different song, written by Veronique, you should check it ;)

My fav Berger song, along with "Quelques mots d'amour". So profound and soulful. The fragility of this question: "will you be there?" just tugs at you. You can't ignore it. In the end, all we ever crave is a companion, another human who cares as much as we do. The music is so pensive and gorgeous... sigh... Best son ever.

Hi and thanx for this reaction! Maybe you should know, when Véronique was in the USA and not so happy with Stephen Stills, her husband at the time, she wrote "le maudit". It´s a song about her feelings for Berger and her situation in the USA. She then came back to France and her first TV show in France was with Berger and she had to sing this song "le Maudit" in his presence. Berger said, it was a beautiful song. That´s all. You can watch this on youtube. "Seras-tu là" is in a way an answer to "le Maudit". Then she answered with "je serai là". But you can feel in this song, she´s showing a limit and yes, she will be there as a friend... And the song "La minute de silence" you reacted to, is the last answer of Berger, and his way to tell her...he has buried his love for her. That´s why the minute of silence. It was beautiful, that for that song Berger had the help and and the support of his best friend, Balavoine.... OK.... keep enjoying other musical discoveries!!! Keep up the good work....

Vero and Michel Berger were a in love when she started in 1972, a short time later Vero went to LA and married Stephen Stills, Michel was abandoned in Paris and tried to overbearing his mental pain, lost Vero, by writing songs like this. Seras-tu La ? Will you be there again ? Finally there were no Happy End, when Vero moved back to France, Michel was married with France Gall (Ela-Ela was his biggest hit, produced and composed for France) and then Michel died much too young. Sad story. And here around 2000 Veronique made an album with only songs written by Berger and interpreted by herself. Epilogue: Veronique is still on tour in France in 2024 !

    Hello Dereck,
In two words; *unforgettably deep.* In fact, we need the instrumentation of *Michel* and the voice of *Véronique* and this title would become perfect!
I love *Bahia* from *Véronique,* a beautiful song by her: ruclips.net/video/r5nbjhopKno/видео.html
There's another song written and composed by *Véronique* that she sang in duet with *Marc Lavoine.* *Une nuit sur mon épaule* Here is the Live version, *so magic!* ruclips.net/video/wIlMVsJNVpM/видео.html
*Véronique Sanson* is also an incredible autor-composer-singer.
    Peace!

Dereck, please listen to EVA (german born) singing mostly in French: ''Dis quand reviendras-tu'' (tell me, when you will be back). Barbara, the french singer, wrote and interpreted that song. A jewel. Eva's lived and died in Montreal in March 2020. She exposed her paintings too. She had a spellbinding voice and her stage presence, his warm personality earned her respect and admiration from both critics and audiences. The song ''Où s'en vont mourir les reves'' (where the dreams die) was liked by many.

If you find a video, you should check out the duet between France Gall and Véronique Sanson, singing "la groupie du pianiste" 😊

As I already said, Michel Berger was one of our genius song maker. Michel Berger and Véronique Sanson had been childhood friends and in 1967, they fell in love with each other but in 1972, Véronique Sanson quits him for an American singer. I don't know how they could, but they saved their friendship and he went on writing for her. When Véronique Sanson sang "Seras-tu là ?", it was in 1993, Michel Berger had already passed away in 1992. I think that's why she is so emotional while singing and makes little mistakes in the lyrics.
Anyway, this is a wonderful song and, effectively, "Je serai là" is the answer from Véronique Sanson to Michel Berger.
Michel Berger and France Gall have been married since 1976 to his death in 1992.
Here is the video of Michel Berger and Jean-Jacques Goldman singing this magnificent song : ruclips.net/video/gx1y-RREJF8/видео.html
It's not very good quality, but it's a piece of French music history.

Michel Berger has always denied having written this song while thinking of Véronique Sanson, but people love these unhappy love stories... For her part, Véronique Sanson said in the media that Michel had written this song for her. Michel Berger met France Gall in 1973 and wrote this song in 1975 thinking of France with the fear that she would leave him too. But they will marry and have two children and a great life together. France Gall has always left the past to the past.

le maudit is a great song of hers. Directly written to talk about her love story for Michel berger . (Michel bergers wife is called France Gall).
there is a video on wich she sings in front of Michel Berger for a public TV Show. And he says at the end that it is the best song ever written . And the moment is sooooo romantic and emotional !!!

Hi Dereck, love that format when you react to both the original and the cover. In this case, Véronique is by far above with her vocals and it makes me prefer her version. I do love the instrumentation on Michel Berger's one though.
